The appetizer sampler comes with dumplings, egg rolls, and little shrimp things, and it is good for sharing. For my meal, I ordered the drunken noodles. On our way back to NYC we stopped here for take out. There's lots of Thai restaurants in NYC but most are not as good as this one. Authentic and distinct flavors in all the dishes we tried. Having now tried the highest rated Thai restaurants in Scranton I've decided that should I return I'll seek out a good bbq joint. I ordered the chicken Penang curry. The flavor was lacking as it had no real hint of kafir leaves or basil. And, worst of all, the vegetables were not cooked. They were hardly warm. Service and the decor was fine. Every time we try to order bubble tea we're told that they're sold out. Even though we see other people getting it. I can't remember the last time we were able to order it. We also went to Thai Thai a street over and were told they were also sold out. How are both local Thai restaurants sold out at the same time?! I guess they just don't feel like making it so they say they're out of it. The only saving grace of Thai Rak Thai is their Asian Mini Mart right next door with lots of awesome products. read more

The food was excellent and the wait staff were very attentive and friendly! I've never had a smoother and more warm reception at a restaurant, with the order being taken quickly and the food arriving fast! Plus, as an added bonus, one of the tables was celebrating a birthday so the lights went out for a split second and a disco ball started swirling in the middle of the ceiling and a glorious rendition of "Happy Birthday to you" was played. I mean, we were having a great day and after a long day trip that went as planned, this was just the cherry on top of the cake to top it off! It was such a wonderful experience! And we were just passing by Scranton, PA along our road trip and we happened to choose this restaurant due to the great reviews here. I grew up 30 mins outside NYC and I have also been to Thailand, so I've tried many kinds of Thai food. Thai Rak Thai ranks very highly to me and is actually better than some places I've gone to in New York. Living in the country (I'm now 40 mins outside Scranton) there's not much ethnic food so every time I'm in the area, I stop in or get take out. Very good red snapper entrees, drunken noodles and pad Thai are well made. I'm a big fan of the Duck Salad and Nam Sod (ground pork, peanuts, lime dressing) so good. I can't leave without a frozen Taro bubble tea :) On top of it all, the wait staff is very personable and friendly too. read more

Tried out delivery on Yelp! and it worked really well, so I will probably use it again in the future. I got curry puffs (long time favorite) and pineapple fried rice (new favorite when I'm not in the mood for Drunken Noodles). Curry puffs were delicious as usual, so no surprises there. I got the fried rice mild and it was still pretty spicy, so if you are sensitive to spicy foods, I recommend going with no spice. The pineapple provided a nice sweetness to balance out the spice, but I did have to add some salt to help balance the sweetness (personal taste). read more

Outstanding service and a welcoming environment. Very relaxing and detail oriented. Our server was so friendly and genuinely down to earth. I didn't love the vegetarian dumplings, as they were very mushy, but the flavor and the accompanying sauce was very good. Vegetarian drunken noodles were pretty good as well. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other offerings, the menu is extensive. Don't pass on the Thai iced tea, it's far better than most. My better half and I visited Thai Rak Thai while in town for the weekend skiing. We put a lot of trust in previous Yelp reviews, but were unfortunately disappointed with our experience. We ordered Drunken Noodles and Masaman Curry, and found both to be lacking. Specifically, the flavor profile of the noodles changed with each bite (spicy one minute, and bland the next), and the curry dish featured dry, dense beef and undercooked potato pieces. The Tom kha gai (coconut milk soup with chicken) soup and chicken satay we started with were excellent. We both had the same dish for dinner, Pad Khing Sod (but I had it with chicken and he had it with beef. It was very good and it was the perfect level of spiciness (medium). Only order hot if you can handle the hottest of hot foods. Trust me. Thai hot is a whole new level of heat. Dessert was amazing!!! I had my favorite Thai dessert, sticky coconut rice with mango. It is too good to be real. My husband had fried banana with coconut ice cream. It was also amazing. It was banana rolled in spring roll wrapper and fried. They also had coconut pudding and Thai custard (made from pandan leaf). I had been craving the sticky rice with mango since the Thai place in our town closed several years back and just wasn't brave enough to try the Thai custard which I read is supposed to taste sweet and like slightly nutty tasting vanilla custard. They also had Bubble tea which I forgot to try and was sad I missed. It sounded amazing. When we first arrived and were looking at the menu, the lights suddenly faded out like a power outage but the this crazy music started and a light fixture in the center of the ceiling with many colors spinning started up. At the same time the staff came out and sang along and clapped with a recorded birthday song to a guest at the table next to us. It was like the Asian version of what is done at many American chain restaurants. I could not help but laugh and smile. It was hilarious and fun. I loved it. What was even funnier was when the singing was finished the ambience music started up playing a lounge jazzified version of YMCA as a slow song. It was priceless!! What an amazing place! My fiancée and I are huge fans of Thai food and we missed out on dining here when we were at the University of Scranton so we figured we'd try Thai Rak Thai when we came back to the area to visit. We were not disappointed by any means. The food here is amazing and so incredibly flavorful. We dined with another couple and all tried each other dishes and we loved all of them. We did the same with dessert and we loved them all as well (definitely go for the coconut ice cream!). The service here is really great too; our waitress was very fun and joked around a lot, which we love. Overall, Thai Rak Thai is a great place to dine with great food and great service. If you're in the area and want to celebrate a birthday or any occasion. The festive music and dim mood lighting will make the meal memorable. It gave my friends a good laugh. Overall the food is decent but mediocre. Since the usual bold Thai flavors and heat were toned way down. The drunken noodles were too sweet and desperately needed several spoonfuls of chili sauce to balance it out. Here for lunch today on Adams St in downtown Scranton. It's very cheerful place, well lit, w/colorful Asian decor. Our server, a native Thai, was very cheerful. Having been in Thailand recently, I had a nice conversation w/him re his country, the foods & especially the spices they use in this restaurant. He promptly came over with a range of chilies from spicy hot to Rough. We ordered a Thai iced tea, which had an orange hue to it, guessing tea in a condensed milk mixture of Asian herbs. To this American a very different taste for tea. Since it was 2PM the place was not packed, assuming the lunch crowd went back to work, but noticed a steady stream of takeout orders. I ordered the Red Curry w/chicken. Wow very flavorful & every time I tried the various hot spices , our server had this grin on his face trying to assess my reactions to the "heat". My friend ordered Pad Pak which was also excellent tasting. The staff is very courteous and friendly. The prices are really reasonable. I didn't have any Thai bahts, so I paid in USD, Haha.
