We went back to Thai Spice after over 4 years of living in PA and it did NOT disappoint! The food was exactly as we remembered and even better!! A fantastic menu with authentic Thai cuisine/spice palettes! The chicken Satay and Lemongrass Chicken were great! My spouse had the spicier Basil chicken and the even spicier Tom yung gong(sp?) soup everything was served fast, fresh and hot!! The staff is friendly and courteous and always a pleasure visiting!! We're not a 20 Minute trip anymore but we will definitely make Thai Spice our 'go-to' lunch or dinner spot when we're in Norwalk!! read more

Visiting my niece and nephew in Connecticut this week, and tonight we decided to try a new Thai spot (to us), Thai Spice. Thai food is always good. Almost everyone can find something, you have some control over what you get, it's good for dietary restrictions and so on. GREAT Thai food is harder to find, because it is such a casual genre. But when they work to develop depth of flavor, and prepare things well, it can be next level! Tonight was that kind of meal. We tried a myriad of appetizers, including Chicken Satay, Basil/Chicken Potstickers, Thai Chili wings, veggie spring rolls and crab Rangoon. We also tried four entrees, Pad Thai, Spicy Beef Salad, Drunken Noodle and a curry. Again, all the food was excellent! However, the Phad Thai and Spicy Beef Salad win the night! Along with their pan fried dumplings and Rangoon. We also appreciated the excellent service, as they ensured that our family member with severe food allergies was well accommodated. I only write about spots away from my most frequently visited cities when I really enjoy them. Thai Spice in Norwalk is definitely one of those spots! Highly recommended. read more

Absolutely loved our meal here! We were honestly surprised to see a few negative reviews, because our experience was the exact opposite. The food was flavorful, fresh, and plated beautifully. We ordered the shrimp pad Thai, crispy tofu with dipping sauces, papaya salad, and a savory beef stir-fry with rice--and everything tasted homemade and authentic. The portion sizes were more than fair, and for the quality, this place is actually one of the most affordable Thai spots we've tried. You can see the care that goes into each dish. Even small things like the balance of veggies (yes, including tomatoes!) added to the flavors--not just filler. Service was friendly and the atmosphere felt cozy and welcoming. My husband and I tried this place out for lunch. The prices were so reasonable and I was stoked to see they had curry puffs. I hadn't had those in a while. The hostess and waitresses were all really nice and super prompt. The curry puffs hit the spot. They were flavorful, crunchy and soft in the center. This is an all time favorite for me and have gone a few times a month ever since they opened. It's a small spot, conveniently situated in a plaza near the Merritt parkway. I have tried almost everything on the menu and can say you can't go wrong with anything. I have been to this place to pick up an order. This is a tiny place in the corner and didn't look really busy. However, the ambience was average and they didn't offer any napkins, spoons and forks, paper plates which was weird. However, the food was amazing. I ordered the Nasi Goreng Indonesian Fried Rice and Basil Chicken Curry. The fried rice was the best part cooked along with a lot of vegetables and a delicious Omlette served on top. The food was great. I over-ordered because I was really hungry and when I am home, I usually have to compromise on what we order to adjust for other people's tastes. I started with the potatoe curry puffs and the Tom Ka soup....yummy does not adequately describe it. Then I had the shrimp Pad Thai. It was really really good. Wow, can't believe I had never reviewed. This may even be 5 stars to me. The summer roll with the peanut sauce and any soup are my easy go tos on any night of the week for a quick and healthy meal. Of course anything else you order is going to be excellent from pad Thai to veggie dishes to fish, etc. They have an ample appetizer list so you can get lost there as well. Very friendly, gentle and genuine staff. I enjoy supporting Thai Spice. Grateful they have indoor dining now during the Covid plan unlike some of the other Thai places around that are takeout only. read more

We were passing through on a road trip and chose this place because of the high reviews. We came in at end of day but not more than two hours before closing to be respectful. This was probably the worst Thai food we've ever had. The flavors were either off or lacking and the beef tasted rancid. The service was friendly but I think the staff could tell we weren't enjoying the food since we didn't eat more than a few bites, however, they didn't ask us how the meal was. It was really awkward. Visited once for a quick late lunch. Received very prompt service. Ordered the duck curry dish with pineapple to eat there and the chicken mango curry for someone else to go. HOLY MOLY mouth on fire! My first and only experience (so far) here has been with take out. It was ready at the time promised and I was in and out within seconds. I like the concept of Thai curries (veggies and super saucy/soupy) but I'm not a big fan of coconut milk. That's why Jungle Curry is perfect for me since there is no coconut milk and theirs did not disappoint. I got it with veggies and tofu and there were so many different types of veggies! Baby corn, eggplant, peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, etc. I thought that getting it "medium" spice would tone it down a little but this stuff packs a punch (and yes, I know Jungle Curry is meant to be spicy). I would definitely get it again but maybe go for the "mild" next time. I really like that the veggies weren't overcooked and that the dish was not greasy at all (hopefully that mean minimal oil). It looks like a lot of food but I don't feel like I am super full and hating myself. I thought I would eat half for dinner and half for lunch tomorrow but ended up eating all of it because it was so good! High recommend the Jungle Curry but tread carefully! read more

My daughter and I felt like Thai food and being new to Norwalk, we gambled on Thai Spice. Wow, was I impressed! There was a fairly good lunch crowd there, but we got a great table by a window and the waiter was lovely. We asked a number of questions and he was patient and cheerful, explaining the different degrees of spice and giving suggestions to us. He was also quick to fill our water glasses, knowing that we were eating pretty spicy food. The food came in lightning speed and the waiter immediately asked how the degree of spice was and if we were enjoying the meal. Boy did we enjoy it! My daughter got dumplings and chicken satay (amazing) and I got rice noodles with veggies and shrimp. I opted for between medium and really highly spicy and it was spot on. (Alert for the faint-at-heart, however. Medium spicy is REALLY spicy. But I love an adventure!) Simple, but wonderful place to go and so great for my mother-daughter lunch. Ordered the lunch specials and they were excellent. Green curry with chicken was flavorful and large pieces of chicken. I specified mild after reading other r3views about too much spice it was outstanding. Beef with garlic was also really garlicky and with good beef. Lunch special comes with spring roll or crab Rangoon. Will return again for take out. Across from TOTAL WINE - so pick up some Thai beer to wash it down! read more

I am very sad to have to write this review. We have enjoyed Thai spice for many, many years, and through Covid, they were one of two places we chose to support as often as we could. But tonight, we dined in and had the worst meal and worst service we have had anywhere in at least 10 years. We started with the cold Summer Shrimp roll. Aside from having no flavor at all, we had to ask three times what was taking so long -- it took 20 minutes and again, its cold! The only prep is soaking the rice paper wrapper and the noodles and steaming the shrimp. Next, we ordered two Chicken Pad Thai and asked for "just a little" extra sauce. Well, when they finally brought it out, it has so much liquid on the plate it almost spilled all over the table. Then we tasted it. It was terrible. The balance was awful, too sweet and just no depth at all. Maybe a new chef, or maybe they were insulted we asked for extra sauce, but it was simply disgusting. We were already late everything took so long that we ate it and left. Very sad. We will not be going back anytime soon. Will look for another Thai restaurant that cares about its customers. read more

I recently ordered from Thai Spice and the food was "meh" at best. I ordered beef & broccoli spicy but it was so hot I could barely eat it. Although the beef was tender it lacked flavor or anything that resembled seasoning. The same could be said about the vegetable spring rolls- they were crunchy but bland and a bit tasteless. I will say the customer service was great. The service was prompt & the hostess was attentive as well as kind. I'm new to the area so I'm going to give Thai Spice another opportunity to redeem itself. I'm praying the more authentic dishes will fare far better than the one I had tonight... read more

Tried for the first time this week when a neighboring restaurant was closed for renovations. Everything was excellent -- pad see ew with shrimp was my favorite, but everything was excellent, the portions large, and the ingredients seemed high quality (the shrimp were very large). My family also loved the drunken noodles and pra raam. If I were to nitpick I would say that the wait was longer than they had initially told me, they charge extra for brown rice, and they required that I prepay for the order as a new customer.... but none are outrageous. They also made an error with my order, omitting an item I had paid for, but promptly refunded my money and apologized profusely (multiple times) -- but in their defense they were extremely busy when I was there, with both takeout and in person dining. Excellent Thai food. As a California transplant where there are countless Thai restaurants, I had a high bar set . We ordered the vegetable spring rolls which were crisp and light and had the perfect seasoned filling. We also ordered eggplant basil which was one of the best Thai dishes I've ever had, a mix of eggplant, onion, bell peppers and mushroom in a light and spicy sauce. We also ordered yellow curry which had perfectly cooked chicken, carrots, and potatoes in rich and decadent sauce. My wife and I began dining at Thai Spice several years ago. About maybe 5 years ago, the customer service at Thai Spice was exceptional. Although the food is still excellent, the customer service has slowly diminished. Some of the wait staff take orders as if we're bothering them. Customers are not welcomed with smiles and their attitude is almost dismissive when customers place an order. I think the owner/s and/or manager ought to find friendlier wait staff who enjoy serving customers. Again we think the food is tasty, fresh and plentiful but the customer service is unacceptable. Hopefully something is done to either re-train the wait staff or explore new wait staff to serve customers. I'm going to be fair and provide at least 3 stars only because of the food. We have been eating at Thai Spice since shortly after their opening. Bout 90% of the time we get take-out. We love their red and green curries and the pad Thai. When ever we have friends visiting and are in the mood for Thai, Thai spice is our go to choice and our friends have uniformly given it high praise. The food can be very spicy!! We like spicy and occasionally even for us it is too much. If you are not sure I suggest you go slowly. But we find the food delicious, of good quality, and I've not had better pad Thai anywhere. read more

This is our go-to spot whenever we want delicious food and don't feel like yelping any other places. We have been eating here for years and the food is so good! It is consistent and delicious. We often have the problem of not trying anything new because we love our favorites so much we stick with them. But whenever we try anything new, we are almost never disappointed (the one exception was the starter called lime chilli shrimp- it was unexpectedly tomato-y and not what we thought it would be. We were ready for it to be done before we finished it). My husband and I love the Shrimp laksa, which is a big bowl noodle soup made with coconut curry, noodles and veggies. It's pretty much the only place in Norwalk or Stamford (or surrounding towns) to get Thai big bowl noodle soups with coconut curry as the base. (Why did you leave me, Papaya Thai? And with no warning?!? I miss my big bowl noodle soup and crab wontons/crab Rangoon and everything else...but I digress) My family loves the mango fish curry, which we have been ordering and enjoying for years and years. It is sweet from the mango and mild in terms of the fish flavor. I love their drunken noodle, which is appropriately spicy. My husband is a huge fan of the green curry, which we split almost every visit. The basil eggplant is a great veggie choice, with lots of flavor and a good level of heat and spice. Family and friends really love the pad thai there as well, but I have it so little I can't even remember what it tastes like. I don't remember not liking it, for what it's worth. The thai iced tea is so good, but I usually don't get it, because I won't be able to eat as much as I want to. I always wish they served crab rangoon for a starter, but that's just because I love it. It's rare that I choose restaurants with less than a 4 star Yelp review, but because of another yelpers praise for this restaurant and note that is was under scored I took a chance! I ordered summer rolls and green curry (again - another yelpers suggestion). The summer rolls were tasty, but they were cut into pieces that were too large for one bite. Every piece fell apart during the first bite. My suggestion would to be to leave the rolls whole...so much easier to eat. The green curry was fantastic and loaded with shrimp and fantastic vegetables. Over all I agree that this hole in the wall Thai restaurant is underrated. I suggest anyone staying at Hotel Zero Degrees to walk over for dinner! Side note - the waitress was a bit lethargic, maybe just having a bad day. read more
