Outstanding restaurant! Best Thai place in the state! I have been regularly eating lunch at this establishment over the past three or four years and during this time they have gotten increasingly better, but recently they improved even more by leaps and bounds. They were never in need of improvement, but they still just keep getting better and better and I love this place. read more

The restaurant itself has a nice, calm atmosphere quiet enough to have a good conversation but still welcoming. Our server was friendly and sweet. We started with the dynamite shrimp, which was decent but not my favorite. It didn't have much flavor, and the sauce it came with didn't really complement the dish. The spring rolls were tasty and crispy, though my friend and I initially thought they had some protein inside turns out they were veggie rolls, which was okay, just not what we expected. For the main course, I ordered my favorite the Panang Curry. It's always delicious here, creamy and full of flavor, and they nailed the spice level just right for me. The only downside was that there seemed to be more vegetables than meat and I would've liked a bit more pork in the curry. Overall, this place remains one of my favorite Thai restaurants for its authentic flavors, relaxing vibe, and consistently good service. I was in the mood for Thai food and was sick, so ordering in was the only way to go. My regular Thai place doesn't do any kind of delivery service, so I found this spot on Door Dash and gave it a try. I got my usual chicken pad thai spice level 2. I did appreciate that the instructions for the restaurant on Door Dash had clearly marked spice levels with the 5 being something like "are you sure you really want to do this?" lol. I also got an order of mango sticky rice. Food arrived and unfortunately I was super disappointed. There was like NO spice at all. It was very very bland noodles for my pad thai *sad face*. But, the mango sticky rice was good - this was the first time I've had an order with green rice, so I was a little put off at first, but the flavor was lovely. I was taking my vegan/vegetarian friends out to eat and it was really hard to find a place that had a decent selection of vegan/vegetarian options until I found Thai Tara! Thai Tara is a cute little restaurant in the Denbigh area at Newport News and I'm really glad that we went here because my friends and their family have since gone back to this restaurant several times for the vegan and vegetarian food options. As per their take on it, they said that it's one of the few Thai places they've tried where their food didn't have hints of fish sauce. So it really shows that the chefs carefully prepare the dishes with respect to people's diets. As for my experience, it was also very positive. The food was tasty, flavorful, and the staff was really nice and accommodating. The place is on the smaller side, so you might want to give them a call if you plan to bring a big group of people in this establishment to get seated accordingly. I visit Thai Tara at least once a month. Whenever I think about Thai food this is the place that immediately comes to mind. I have been coming here for years and the quality and service is always excellent and friendly. Considering it's a small restaurant, I look forward to having a calm, intimate meal whether that be with myself or friends/family. As a creature of habit, I order the Thai Tara Lo Mein with added bell peppers and a medium spice level. This is my favorite dish because it satisfies my veggie and protein needs with much flavor and textures in every bite. I appreciate this dish, because out of all of the Thai restaurants I've been to I simply can't find a dish that checks off all the palate boxes like TT does. Their special sauce is *chef's kiss*. I plan to try their Williamsburg location VERY soon which serves sushi and has a more elaborate menu according to one of the waitresses at Newport News. I can't wait! Came here yesterday for the first time. It's located at the bottom of an apartment complex, in the corner, but this means lots of good parking! Cute little restaurant and a large menu. We got the pineapple curry with chicken, which had good flavor but was pretty watery. It came with a side of rice, but not enough to eat with the entire portion of curry. We also go the drunken noodles, which were good- lots of veggies ! Was pretty empty when we came in. Service was decent but took a little while for drink refills and servers changed mid-dining. This was a great find. Came here because it was an hour long wait at this other spot. So glad I did! The food was great! Staff was really nice and attentive. It's a small intimate place. Decor is ok...I think in time they can improve the look. Seems they get a lot of carry out orders, maybe DoorDash or something because people kept coming in to pick up orders. While looking on Yelp before the Christmas break, I came across this spot which is in driving distance from the car dealership where I purchased my vehicle in 2013. It's actually next to Angie's Cafe where we stopped by for breakfast weeks back. On the way to pick up car from an appointment, we stopped here to see if the reviews are legit. Verdict? We immediately got seated once walking inside. It's a small space which was occupied with many folks inside. The staff was all masked up and every table had hand sanitizer available. Safety first in my book. Now, onto the food. I ordered Chicken Thai Tara Lo Mein (dinner size) which is egg noodles with onions, carrots, bean sprouts, cabbage and scallions in house special sauce at mild spice level. Pretty good flavor. Everything was cooked very well. Only issue I had was there were a lot of carrots in my dish. A whole lot. I did eat some but not all. Next time, I'll request a few or none, which is no biggie. Nonetheless, the dish was very good. And my girlfriend said her fried rice dish was good. So there you have it folks. I asked my teen if he wanted it and the entire dish was not something either of us could stomach and I've had amazing pad thai before at a different place. My son ordered Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodle) with shrimp and I was jealous because his dish was pretty good. If I am ever in NN again and I am forced to come here, I will order his meal. I have eaten here three times in three visits to Newport News to visit my holistic dentist. I live in Chesapeake, so this is not a regular trip for me usually. BUT even with the necessity of unpleasant dental work bringing me to the area, I am glad to have found Thai Tara. My favorite dish is Panang Curry with chicken. This place is great, we have finally found our favorite Thai place on the peninsula. We went in for an early dinner so the restaurant was near empty, but the staff greeted us quickly and let us choose our table. The food was amazing, my wife had the spicy chicken chefs special and I had shrimp Pad Thai. Sometimes Pad Thai tastes like ketchup to me, but this had many layered flavors. Next time I will probably get it a little spicier, but I wanted to try it mild first. My wife's spicy chicken was medium spice, (which they say is American hot,lol), and she said it was perfect.
