Today's wonderful lunch. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of the seaweed salad. Delicious as usual.

Had lunch at my favorite sushi bar in Newport News. OMG never lets me down. Our waitress remembered us and took our order quickly with a huge smile. As always the food came out quickly and tasted great. I will say the only improvement I could wish for is if they would offer free WiFi. That would make it perfect.

I'm way overdue for putting in an updated review for OMG Sushi. They've managed to hold on through COVID, and have made some substantial improvements I believe that are keeping them up and running. I'm still not crazy about the "all you can eat" style models - but I found myself searching for somewhere that would make creative use of mango this summer, and I stumbled upon a real set of solid gems with delivery service here. The Mango Roll is the BOMB - and the white tuna and salmon sushi I got in addition were fresh and tasty. They've definitely upped their game in this department. My kiddo gave the dumplings a big thumbs up as well. So, now I have a nice spot for a quick lunch/snack if I'm craving mango themed Asian fare.

This is the size of their shrimp. The shrimp is not even seasoned. So, you will get 6 of this on a gallon of noodles.... Yuck

I ordered a variety of dishes from here because it was my first time coming. My daughter said the sushi was okay, so I'll give small credit for that. However, the rest of the meal was a big letdown. My shrimp yakisoba had just six small popcorn shrimp tossed on top of a pile of noodles. Both the portion and quality were disappointing. The shrimp tasted cheap and very low quality and the noodles were soggy. Popcorn shrimp do NOT belong on yakisoba. There should be quality ingredients on your food and charge more if you need to but this missed the mark for me. I have been to too many Japanese restaurants with great food to settle for this nonsense. The beef hibachi was awful too. The meat was poor quality, and there were literally six tiny pieces of beef hidden underneath a heap of broccoli and mushrooms. Honestly, when someone opens a plate, they should see quality ingredients, not just filler items with a couple bites of protein buried inside. No offense intended, but based on this experience, I won't be coming back. Your food sucks!

I've never ate here before, so i decided to give it a try. I ordered the seaweed salad, the volcano sushi rolls, & the fried snapper appetizer. Everything was good...not bad, but not amazing. I wasn't dissatisfied at all though. I liked that the seaweed salad was on a bed of lettuce & that it had carrot strips. I always love the crunchy texture of the salad.

OMG is a small local favorite near the university crowd and general community. It's situated in a busy shopping center with decent parking. Food quality improved from previous visits to include a pleasing presentation. Prices were a bit high for the all-you-can option compared to other local spots. Service was not welcoming during this visit. Flat affect is the best I can describe our waitress. She appeared to be bothered and disengaged with us. Service was, however, reasonably provided when ordering and receiving our meals. Overall, I will go back. They offer a military discount and participate with several delivery services.

Okay I will say that this was an almost amazing experience The decor is so beautiful here there are hanging lanterns and even umbrellas the main wall has an eclectic pop art style painting I love it The tables are clean and so is the bathroom We did the Ayce dinner which is around 24$ not a bad price for the amount of food you get to enjoy Their Shumai is excellent and I really liked the monkey roll and the CNU roll which has fried sweet potato inside The pepper tuna was served on pickled cucumbers not like pickles but more of like marinated in an Italian dressing pickled unexpected but delicious So the food on point the sake hot definitely hit the spot The service not so perfect For starters they did not once fill our water cups my friend was literally sucking on ice all night we had to wave our waitress down to order more We stacked our plates to the side to make room but it took forever to be picked up I chalked it up to understaff and the waitress multitasking trying to clean back of the house. As there was only one other couple in the restaurant we got there before 8 and they close at 930 so I don't feel this should of been an issue But what really caused me to dislike my service was how the waitress handled the check Our total was around 65$. My friend was paying on his card and I was planning to leave a cash tip I only had 12$ cash and asked him to add a couple of dollars (keep In mind a 20%tip would of been around 13$) I wanted to make it an even 15 When she took the bill the waitress stopped and looked Down she looked at my friend and said "you can't do more?" Referring to the few dollar tip he had put (which was to supplement my cash tip) this greatly embarrassed him and really rubbed me wrong she did not look to see if a cash tip was added Tips are appreciated but not required especially when the service was not top tier I feel she really could of handled it differently hopefully me saying in front of her To my friend "Here just change the tip there and you can keep the cash I was leaving her" was enough to show how rude her comment was But I'm doubtful that she even paid attention to me Hopefully this was a one time fluke and we won't experience this type of experience again

Increased price for lunch all you can eat $18

First time here. Service was good. We went for the all you can eat lunch which they increased the price by $2 so it's now $18 per person. Dinner is $30 per person. Some items we won't get again but the ones worth ordering again that we tried were: salmon rangoons, shrimp tempura, chicken katsu, spicy CA rolls, volcano rolls, shrimp tempura rolls. We did NOT like the chicken satay (very dry and no flavor), chicken yakitori (very dry), super duper rolls (fishy).

Came back for a visit again, we are regulars for the most part. The service is usually always pretty good, and this time it was great we get the same waitress most of the time. Food was good, the chicken we got was a little over cooked so I didn't love it this time but normally it's amazing. The sushi rice was off I'm not sure what it was undercooked overcooked I couldn't tell, but again that never happens it's always cooked great. The shumai is so good one of my favorite things. A good place to get your moneys worth in sushi and if you want a break from sushi king who I don't think is all that great. Restaurant is decorated modern and is clean, plenty of room for large groups too.

Left this place SO happy and full! I had the all you can eat (AYCE) lunch on a Saturday, which on the weekends costs the dinner price of $22.95 per person. They do have 2 and 3 roll lunch specials on the weekends as well from 11a-3p. I called ahead and was incorrectly told they dont have AYCE on the weekends, but I think they meant that the lunch price isn't on the weekends. This is not a buffet - you order w/ the waitress and it comes fresh made to you which I love. You have to pay for anything leftover so beware. The real reason you should come to this place is if you want a LOT of cheap sushi. Don't come here just for their normal sushi because it's meh. The sushi is definitely NOT the best, especially when you go for the AYCE option because they go heavy on the rice, rice is a bit hard/dry, skimp on the fish, and give you half/small portions of the regular menu items just as an FYI - but it met my sushi craving and who cares?? You can just order more of it! My advice - order a ton of sashimi so you don't fill up on rice and get the pure, delicious fresh fish. Also if you order 2 specialty rolls, your AYCE cost is already covered because they give you the full size (albeit less fish). The service wasn't the most friendly, but I didn't care because the waitress checked in frequently and the food came out very quickly each round we ordered. That's what we needed. The best items in my opinion: -sashimi (particularly salmon) -seaweed salad -salmon rangoon (cooked salmon + cream cheese in a fried wonton wrapper) -salmon and tuna tartare (raw cubed fish in sweet teriyaki/eel sauce) -hero roll (deep fried w/ cream cheese, crab stick) -tokyo roll The cucumber salad was vinegary but very refreshing (they gave a lot, tried to fill us up I imagine). The white dragon and NY rolls were also fine. The salmon and yellowtail rolls were so-so because the rice was quite dry and there was barely any fish in there. So we stopped ordering those and just went for the specialty rolls and sashimi. I came here with my partner. We paid $70 after tax and 25% tip (we felt bad making the waitress run back and forth). Parking is easy peasy, huge parking lot.

Shrimp Tempura Roll was awful and the shrimp tempura was old and on the verge of turning rancid.

I came here for lunch today and will not be returning. I'll start with the good. The Shumai were delicious, the OMG roll was fine, the ice was cold. On the other hand: The miso soup was flavorless. The Korean style chicken was dry, tough, and it wasn't Korean style at all. I'm Korean...I've eaten a lot of Korean style chicken...I've never had it this way. It was basically tough, dry pan seared chicken strips in bland General Tso's sauce. I ordered shrimp tempura and never received it, but that's ok because I ordered a Shrimp Tempura roll and it was bad. And when I say bad I mean the shrimp tempura was clearly old and on the verge of turning rancid. The chicken hibachi was bad as well. The chicken was again dry and tasted old. The fried rice was slimy feeling and the hibachi veggies lacked any appeal. Maybe I caught them on a bad day...but I'll never know.

10 Piece Unagi Don (*BUT ONLY GIVEN 7 PIECES*) Also came with sliced avocado, pickled ginger and wasabi as well as a salad and miso soup.
    Stephen W.

First time being a customer here, so this review is based on only that one visit. I ordered the Unagi Don (10 pieces of grilled eel on top of sushi rice). The quality of the food was good but the issue is that they cheated me on the amount of eel that I was given -- they gave me only 7 pieces instead of 10 like the menu states. I got takeout so I was already home by the time I found out, so I wasn't very happy about that. Paying $18 for only 7 little pieces of eel wasn't very worth it, especially when I agreed to pay for 10. I never would've ordered it if I knew I was only going to be getting 70% of what I paid for. But again the food was good otherwise, so if they had given me 10 like they were supposed to I would've had zero complaints.

I was really excited to try this place as an all you can eat (ayce) sushi place while I was in the Hampton area. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. I went around 1pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was not busy. This place is just "okay" and I didn't expect much with the sushi grade quality and taste. I came here for lunch on a Saturday so they still offered ayce, it was just for the price of the ayce dinner menu adults $23.95 each and kids are $11.95. The menu is pretty standard to other ayce, maybe a little bit more limited on the appetizers. One appetizer that stood out was the Salmon Rangoon. This tasted like a Crab Rangoon but with Salmon and the best dish on the menu. Tuna tartar was tasty with the ponzu sauce that the tuna was marinated in. I ordered the salmon one too and it had a weird chemical after taste that I didn't finish it. The Avocado Salad was delicious, just overly dressed with the ginger dressing. Gyoza was average and tasted like the frozen ones. I ordered the OMG Roll and My Best Friend Roll. All the sushi and hand rolls here seemed to be overstuffed with rice. I am not sure if this is OMG Sushi's target to make customers get full faster for ayce, but it's a ridiculous amount that I had to pull some out. The rice was also brittle and tasted old. The rolls were not rolled well. By the time you picked up a piece to dip in soy sauce, the sushi was falling apart. They did not have wasabi or ginger on my sushi plate, so I had to wait about 10 mins to get the servers attention for some. I appreciated that they had a chopstick clip for our little one to assist with using chopsticks. Overall, I received my sushi fix, but don't think I would be thinking about OMG Sushi when I have a sushi craving again.

We arrived when it wasn't busy and were told there would be a 5-10 minute wait. After about five minutes, I asked about the delay after noticing staff and the manager chatting instead of seating guests. We were then seated, but waited another 10 minutes while multiple servers passed by without acknowledging us or taking our order. We ultimately decided to leave, and the manager didn't appear concerned or attempt to address the situation. Staff was busy and the waitress did take a minute to come to our table, but it really wasn't a rush on our day off. For my meal, I selected gyoza for appetizers and their stir-fried bento box with beef as the protein with hot spice. Everything that was cooked very well. The gyoza was full of flavor along with enough dipping sauce to help with each taste. The bento box was really good. There was enough protein and veggies included and the hot spice wasn't that spicy on the palate at all. A nice lunch that kept us full. Hayashi did deliver for the day. You know we'll be back :)
