How fortunate, or not, that our regular spot was closed, and gave us a reason to try somewhere else. We got delivery, so can't speak to the restaurant itself or the service. Everything arrived well packaged, and hot. We tried the curry puffs, the chicken satay, tom kha soup, pineapple fried rice, noodles and three different entrees (I shouldn't order Thai food whilst hungry). We really enjoyed every bite. Fresh, well cooked and tasty all around. My only gripe is that there isn't an option for spice level, or maybe they didn't notice my comments on the order. Although there is another Thai Thai in Old Bridge, it doesn't look like they are the same owners. I got take out here and tried their chicken drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice. I had ordered online and noticed that the yellow curry rice didn't have any options for making it vegetarian, the description said it came with shrimp and chicken. I wrote in the comments that I didn't want shrimp or chicken but wanted veggies and tofu instead. After placing the order I called the restaurant up to make sure that all the dishes I ordered were being made vegetarian and the person who picked up the phone was so rude to me. She was talking down and spoke as if it's obvious that the kitchen had received my comments. I just called up to make sure that my comments weren't missed but I got a lot of attitude instead. On top of this experience, I felt that the penang curry wasn't good. It didn't have the peanut flavor that the curry is known for. This Thai place is one of, if not the best Thai restaurant ever. My parents have been coming here for over 20 years! Even when it changed ownership the food has remained delicious. I always recommend any of my friends to come here for some delicious Thai food. Especially during lunch, when the prices are reasonable and you even get a nice salad with it. The restaurant isn't the newest, but they offer a large menu of Thai favorites, including stir fry, curry and vegetarian options. I had the Thai Thai Gai, which was chicken and vegetables in a spicy sauce with cashews. The dish had a good amount of spice, and the brown rice and vegetables were fresh. We stopped in the other night after a very long absence. Not many folks in the place. A steady take out business. Good jasmine tea to warm us up. Thai dumplings, curry puffs, penang curry and tamarind duck. Food came right out. No complaints. The tamarind duck seems to have changed over the years. It used to be duck with fried garlic chips. Now it is a veggie heavy dish, a nice portion of duck with no garlic chips to be found. I asked the server if she was sure I was served the right dish. She assured me it was correct. Regardless, it was delicious. I left most of the veggies. My wife really enjoyed her curry and the portion was large enough for her to enjoy a second meal the next day. A word on spice. Thai spicy is three star. Medium is one star. I used to order Thai spicy. Medium was fine all these years later. Plenty of spice to make things interesting. Don't be foolish. I had dinner at Thai Thai with my family tonight and found the staff to be downright nasty and rude to us. For starters, they have the wrong person working as a hostess. Excellent, fresh and tasty food! We have been here several times over the course of a few months and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately there was a scene last night with a customer who claimed that everything about the restaurant was bad. She even came back into the restaurant to continue her tirade minutes later. I have been going there for almost 30 years, but NO MORE!!! It was a 5:00 PM dinner and only one or two other tables of customers were there at the time, so it was not busy at all. There were more customers later, but still... no excuse for their horrible service and attitude. First, they did not allow my brother to push the baby stroller into the restaurant. The baby was sleeping. They said there was not enough room in the restaurant for the stroller. There was PLENTY of space to push the stroller through and put it next to our table. Trust me... there was so much room there. Second, we ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert and they left the plastic Saran wrap covering on the sticky rice and served it to us like that. We told them about it and showed them the piece of Saran wrap. They offered to get us another one, but NO apology from them. NONE. Third, they brought containers for our leftovers and gave us ONE paper bag for the 11 of us. I asked politely for another paper bag because we were going to different houses. The server was visibly annoyed and rolled her eyes at me as she walked away from our table. Fourth, as we were leaving the restaurant, the same lady who rolled her eyes at me was at the register counter telling us not to keep the door open while we were still trying to make our way out the door. How the heck were we supposed to leave the friggin' restaurant if we don't open the friggin' door and walk out??? There were 11 of us. It will take some time for all of us to leave your establishment. There were other things they did wrong, but these were the ones that stood out. They are NOT kid-friendly at all either. I used to come to this place all the time when I lived in New Jersey and even when I moved and would come up to visit family and friends, but then our visits to this place stopped many, many years ago. Why? Because the quality and taste of the food had gone way down hill. It was a real disappointment. Fast forward to present day, my family and I were in dire need of a great early lunch restaurant to meet some family members at, just this past weekend, and we thought that we would give this place another try...best choice we made!! We were the first people there and the staff couldn't have been nicer and couldn't have been more hospitable. We had a few people stop by our table to make sure that all of our water glasses were filled. The food was so delicious and the portions were actually bigger than I remember! It's very unfortunate as this place falls in with the many small, cute & well-run restaurants here in the Watchung Mountains. We waited for five minutes, then I had to stop a server to remind them that we are looking for a table to sit down. We were then seated and our server patiently took our orders. It had sautéed squid, chicken & shrimp with red and green peppers in a homemade chili paste...a side of white rice. This dish can be order a little spicy, spicy, or very spicy... It was also enjoyed... I was very full from lunch so I didn't order dessert. Our waitress was always checking in with us to make sure our food was to our liking. She must of come over at least 3 times . She filled our water glasses without asking and really gave us great service.... I really appreciate good service....it rare nowadays .... This one Thai cuisine in particular happens to be next to a liquor store, all the more reason to pick up a six pack of Singha Beer to enjoy with this spiced up menu. We were really impressed with the quality and taste of everything we ordered: curry puffs, Thai dumplings, a Chicken Pad See Ew, Beef Pad See Ew and Chicken Kee Mao. We asked for extra peanut sauce and got a pint! It was really good. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the chicken was surprisingly high quality white meat. Everything was flavorful and really delicious. We were nervous at first because of the variability of the Yelp reviews, but we are very glad we took the chance. I have been ordering from Thai Thai on a regular basis since I moved to the area several years ago. We have always loved the food and never had an issue; we have even brought out of town guests to eat at this restaurant. Yesterday, I had an extremely unfortunate experience that I have to share. I recently gave birth to a little boy with a soy allergy. I called ahead to Thai Thai to explain my situation and ask if they could accommodate this allergy (I am nursing), to which they confidently stated they could. I called in the order for pickup, reminding the restaurant that I had a soy allergy. When I opened my meal, I noticed that there was tofu in my order. I believe it is common knowledge that tofu is entirely made of soy. I would have assumed that a restaurant would be aware of soy and other food allergies or they would ask if they were unsure. In fact, i have previously called other restaurants, who have honestly expressed an inability to make certain dishes free of soy, which is entirely understandable. Further, if a mistake had been made, I would have expected a food service provider to be apologetic and accommodating, particularly as I called ahead to ask about the restaurant's ability to prepare a safe dish. When I called to report the tofu issue, I was absolutely flabbergasted with the response. My calmly expressed and valid concern was was received with hostility. The person I spoke with, who I believe to be an owner or manager, even stated she "didn't sit around all day and think" about different food allergies. I believe awareness of food allergies is a basic responsibility for food service providers. I know part of my responsibility is to double check food before eating, as mistakes happen and I understand that. However, the response was what really upset me. I am grateful that my son's allergy is not life threatening. I will NOT be eating at this restaurant again and would caution others with common food allergies to do the same. read more
