While I haven't been to this location in a while it seems perhaps there are different owners? The food was okay but not a French Thai as I had last time in Somerville. Things had a distinctly different flavor. While tasty it was not Thai (ine of my favorite cuisines). In addition, they need to spend a bit of time and money to make small renovations to the space. Little holes in the faux finished walls, bathrooms had a lot of rough issues that needed repair & even entry way walls needed spackle & paint. The bouncy, chewy noodles in the pad see ew were enjoyable, but the portion felt small for the price and I wish there was more of a soy sauce flavor. Beef pad see ew is my go-to dish whenever I'm at a Thai restaurant but here... the beef had a very unusual tangy and sour taste, which made me question the quality of the meat. We've been loyal customers for several years, but ever since the previous manager left, the quality has gone steadily downhill. The food now tastes noticeably different--and unfortunately, not in a good way--each time we've given it another chance. I've lived in the area my whole life and had no idea Origin has been around for so many years. We really enjoyed sitting in the outdoor space on a summer night; the indoors looked nicely decorated but much darker. Appetizers: curry puffs were disappointing - the pastry was great but the filling was light and did not have much curry flavor at all. The Vietnamese jumperial rolls were super fresh and delicious. Entrees: pad Thai with shrimp was delicious and a very generous portion. The green curry (with fried tofu) was one of the best I've had in a long time. There were tons of veggies - and they weren't just the random frozen mixed vegetables, either! Came here for a company holiday dinner. I've been to their other location in Somerville which was amazing. This place is just the same. Everything from the interior to the food was amazing. The service was great. They were very attentive and friendly. The food came out fairly quickly for our large party. Everyone from the owners to the waitresses were awesome. We had a fixed menu for our large party that included soup, salad, entree and dessert. The salad was delicious and fresh. We had a choice of 3 different soups, I had gone for a coconut chicken soup that was refreshing and slightly citrusy. My entree was the garlic salmon which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was also covered in chopped shrimp and served with a side of white rice. Everything was superb. The decor remains, but they removed half of the formerly over crowded number of tables making for a relaxed ambience. The menu had Thai dishes with a French influence. The service was appreciated. I had the sautéed monkfish ($25). It was prepared with porcini mushroom sauce, braised pearl onions, greens and mashed potatoes. I thought there was a lack of fish present. The dish as a whole was somewhat plain. Came here recently for lunch with a friend and it was OK. The chicken dish was a very small portion and it was underwhelming. An hour and a half later I was hungry. I'm going to say that dinner may be a better option but I haven't gone there for dinner yet. I would also try the noodle dishes for lunch because those dishes looked way better from what I saw at other tables. But if you're trying to stay more low-carb, than be prepared to be hungry. Locals to this area kept telling me to go to Origin so I finally did, on my last night in town. I'm so glad I went and that this place lived up to the hype. I should've brought a nice bottle of white or plum wine with me, which would've enhanced my experience, I'm sure, but I still enjoyed the food and atmosphere very much. (By the way, if you're not familiar with this area, like me, just know there's a wine place two doors down from here). I ordered light and only had the shrimp/crab spring roll and duck salad served fresh with carrots and apples in an edible won ton bowl. I also ordered a Thai iced coffee.
