I'm giving this restaurant one star only because zero stars is not an option. We have tried over and over again with the carry out option at this lousy place and EVERY time they have gotten the order wrong. This evening was the last straw! We're DONE. In our experience with Thara Thai, the order is either incomplete, or too spicy, or completely WRONG. And the owner doesn't care. In fact, she is hostile. Case in point: The whole family sat together this evening as my husband placed the order by phone, including an order of chicken satay for our child. When he got home with the food, the satay was missing. We called back to report the error, and the owner RAGED at us blaming the problem on us, claiming that the satay was "not on the order." We explained that we had all heard my husband order it, and she screamed that she always has problems with us. Owner of Thara Thai: Consider the fact that the problem is YOU. I speak several foreign languages, as does my husband, so we certainly have compassion for non-native speakers. But language issue notwithstanding, the owner is not clearly not competent enough to multi-task in a busy restaurant and accurately take an order. Adding insult to injury, she blames her shortcomings on the customer. She actually told us that she doesn't care if we stop patronizing her restaurant. What an insult to the people in our community who support her business and keep it going. She doesn't care. What does that say about the food they serve? Buyers beware. read more

The food is to die for. I come from a huge food town and moving to Champaign and being recommended this place was such a blessing!

One of the best asian restaurants around champaign. Drunken noodles and padh thai are amazing. Wontons are great as well!

The Chicken See Eiw Pad Thai was wonderful, I went with Mild and it still had a hint of spice and was wonderful. I also had their pot stickers and those were delicious as well. I will definitely be going back again. read more

Was looking for something different for my family. Found this Thai restaurant. The Pho soup with beef was tasty and very larger portion. The Pad Kee Mao was a very good variation on Pad Thai. Would recommend and would eat again. read more

The waitress there was rude and I do not understand their system. A group of people who had arrived later than my group, and their order was taken a few tables after mine, got their food before everyone else. When I asked them about it, the waitress said to me it was because they had specified that they wanted their appetizers to come out together with their food. Well apparently if you want to get your food before everyone else even though you arrived after them then I really suggest specifying to them that you want your appetizers and main dishes to come out together. Keep in mind that this place does not let you make reservations. How does getting your order taken last of everyone there but getting everything you order brought out first make sense? Food was horrible. I had to be very patient with these people not to have gotten up and leave before my order came out because of the obnoxious way they run their business. Don't be fooled by the good reviews because I certainly was yet I had the worst restaurant experience ever. read more

This is the best Thai food in town. The restaurant is family owned and EVERYTHING is made from scratch. If you want cookie cutter Thai food that is watered down for the American palate, this place is not for you. It's spicy and wonderful and made with care and love. Because it is family owned and small, it is frequently packed and you may have to wait. It's worth it. Not sure what to order? Ask, they will help you find something you will enjoy. Want a substitution? No problem they will make almost any substitution. Too spicy once you get it? They will remake it with a smile on their face. Anyone who has had a bad experience here in my opinion wouldn't be happy no matter what. I have been coming here for over 10 years. We ate here for the first time less than a week ago and are already ordering take out. It was absolutely delicious. We tried about 7 different dishes and were equally pleased with all of them. We had our green curry with tofu "Thai hot". It was crazy good and very spicy which can be hard to find in the Midwest. The staff is so friendly and the service was very fast, even with it being pretty busy and with our massive order. It is our new favorite! read more

Ive been coming to Thara Thai for years. This place is in my opinion, the best Thai food in Champaingn and the Bloomington area!! The dishes always taste the same so the consistancy is great. Their Tom Yum is ridiculously good! They are always busy which in my opinion is great! I am sorry, but if there are crickets churping in the background, I don't want to eat there!!! The Pad Thai is amazing and nutty with a hint of heat and I have never been disappointed when I order something new. BEST!!!!! read more

Okay, so here I am minding my own business and I get hungry. Fair enough I thought, people do get hungry, generally speaking. Anyways, to remedy the situation I get in my Mazda3, a good car by the way, and start driving to Thara Thai. As I am driving I call them over the my windows phone, a good phone, and order chicken fried rice--medium spice. I get there, pay $12.03, they bring out my order and give me a fortune cookie with it--I like them for this, the fortune cookie I mean, it is tasty. With this fried rice, I drive to a quiet place and eat it. I am satisfied. But then I realize that having this rice does not bring Scarlett Johansson running towards me and saying I want to you now, while ripping her and my clothes off, and so I am dissatisfied. My advice, if you are a straight man (men who like Scarlett) or a lesbian (women who like women besides themselves?), having fried rice here will not bring your dreams come true. 3 stars. read more

food is great. Just wish they didn't bait and switch you on prices. They have a nice website, with a nice online menu, but beware because I called in a pick up order for Tom Kha soup thinking it was 12.99..since there website says its 12.99 and when I came in to pick up the bill was 15.35 total. Seemed a bit high, but didn't question it til I got home and sales tax for 2014 in Champaign is 9%, so I did the math and should have been charged less. I called them thinking maybe they started charging for rice or something. She then informed me that the Tom Kha soup is 13.99 and that its been that way for the last four years. I know it's only a dollar something, but come on. So basically they have been having people call in to order from an incorrectly priced menu online for the last four years and the worst part is she knew about it and said the website guy hasn't gotten around to changing it. Ridiculous. It just rubs me the wrong way. False advertising at it's worst. read more
