It was all quite yum-- the cake, the crust, the @Cheesecaketruc guy who was working the window. Let me tell you what the working gal's lunchtime is like in Van Ness. You spend all day refreshing Food Truck Fiesta and watching them crowd around the usual hot spots. You realize that some office lady in Virginia is getting more food truck action than you are and you regret the hour commute to a location where you have to stealth out on your lunch break, sprint to a Metro, and pray you can get to Farragut and back in thirty minutes. So when a truck takes pity on Never Never Land and finishes out their day with 20 minutes in Van Ness, you take it. The man who handed me the styrofoam box of happiness could've looked like a hobbit and I would've praised his appearance, but fortunately I don't have to lie. The other flavors of the day were plain, cookies'n'cream, amaretto, strawberries'n'cream, and Irish cream... but lucky me, I got the last round of blueberry lemon. Definitely enough to share for two, but I ended up nibbling slowly at it for a good while instead. I typically gravitate towards denser cheesecakes, but the light, lemony creaminess was still appealing with the berries peeking through the surface in some spots. If I wanted to search for criticism, I'd say that the blueberries could've been distributed more evenly, but that's like saying I don't like surprises. Flavors were balanced beautifully, even with the rosette of lemon gel spread across the top. The graham crumb crust at the bottom was just the right moistness and firmness. Second visit I was ready to order chocolate raspberry if they'd run out of mango crunch. Didn't care for the latter as much as I'd enjoyed blueberry lemon though; slightly thicker consistency on the creaminess but heavily cloying. The sprinkling of oat and crumb garnish on top was needed to cut the sweetness and balance the textures out. Service was pleasant. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this truck again, and pray that the daily menu includes tiramisu next time they throw Van Ness a bone. read more

I'm not a huge cheesecake fan, so take this for what it's worth, but these are pretty good as far as cheesecakes go. Normally I just find it too boring, no matter what you add to it, and while that didn't really change with the offerings from this truck, at least I could tell it was pretty quality stuff. Their service seems to be quick and they're fairly priced, so I think they'll wind up doing pretty well in the long run, especially since their dessert isn't quite as seasonal as some of the new ice cream trucks. I think there are normally about 5-7 different flavors per day, with presumably different offerings rotating. They all run $4 and instead of coming in slice form (like the Dangerously Delicious pies) they are served as individual little round cheesecakes. I say little with a bit of hesitation, as the size is actually more than enough to be 2 servings for me, but part of that is because I don't really like cheesecake that much and really can only stand so much of it even if it is good. I went with the cookies and cream version and I actually rather enjoyed it. The cake itself was dense but still easy to cut through with a fork and the cookie crumble was there texturally and with flavor but nowhere near overpowering. Some of the other offerings were tiramisu, apple crumble, mint and a few others I can't recall. I'm not sure I would ever go back, but it's not because of anything the truck did wrong, just my personal preference. If you are a fan of this kind of dessert though you should definitely check them out, as I don't think you'll be disappointed. Conveniently they do take credit cards too, and don't have a limit so you can use one for a single serving. I should warn you though that if you follow them on Twitter they retweet compliments pretty much all day so it can get annoying quickly. read more

Probably one of the most perfect food truck desserts, especially for those who eat it on the go. They serve it in a cup and lid serves as your guard to keep your cute outfit clean. Its a no hassle perfect food truck nomnom. Perfectly refreshing sweetness to enjoy on hot day. Loving the hard thick chocolate on the outside and soft inside. First bite in and you can really taste the banana flavor, not too strong as to overpower everything and yet still come through when biting through that hard super chocolaty exterior. It really doesn't taste like food truck, more like we are eating at the high end restaurant. Its a big piece of cheesecake and I thought about sharing, but than realize I want it all to myself. I bought 2 for $7, the cookies and cream and the irish whiskey. Two very good choices, but I think their flavor profiles are very similar. The oreo-like crust is a little crumbly, but soft. The cheesecake is super creamy and not too dense. The irish whiskey/cream didn't taste very Baileys-like, but I don't have much else to complain about. These mini cheesecakes are decently sized and if I skipped eating lunch altogether, I'd be in complete cheesecake coma. I decided to take a few bites from each and saved them for dinnertime. If I am ever near this truck again and looking for an easy excuse to not eat healthy, I'll be in their line waiting for a fix. read more

It's rare that I get dessert from a food truck. By the time I get a real meal, paying an extra $5 for ice cream seems wallet-crushing. However, as a huge cheesecake fan (yet not snob), I had to try this place out. The gentleman at the window informed me the Pumpkin Spice was their most popular one (not sure if he meant in general, or just right now since it's October) so I decided to give it a whirl. This just isn't great cheesecake. The flavor is there, but this doesn't taste like any cheesecake I've ever had. It was more like a cheese mousse. If you've ever had Yoplait Whips yogurt, that's what this was like. It was so fluffy, if you told me I was eating pumpkin-flavored whipped cream I'd have believed you. Not at all like the rich taste you'd get from Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. Maybe this is what you want. I can see it being advantageous for lunch, if people don't want a heavy dessert sitting in them for the second half of the day. However going into it you should know what you're getting into (other reviews echo the consistency is on par with how I described it). For the premium that food trucks charge ($4.40 for a single portion in this case) I just don't think it's worth it. read more

Came by for dessert at Truckeroo with a bunch of friends and I must say this is a great deal and absolutely delicious. The four of us decided to split a Cookies and Cream cheesecake which was only $4. They give you a pretty large sort of mini cake and the flavor was very rich. Compared to paying $3 or $4 for a dried out cupcake I would definitely go for some cheesecake! They have ton of flavors and accept cards too. read more

Wow it's good! I stopped by to pick up a slice of their pumpkin spice. The cheesecake was amazing! Light fluffy and just the way I like it. I just wish there was a little more whipped cream on top. They charge $4.40 including tax, but the piece is HUGE so it's definitely worth it. You could probably share it with two other people. read more

That Cheesecake hits the spot! I have a hit or miss relationship with cheesecake. Some I really enjoy, and others not so much. I saw 'That CheeseCake Truck' parked next to the Fizelle truck, and decided I would try them for desert. I walked up to the truck, and saw that they had several very tempting offers that day. I asked the woman at the window which of that day's selection she recommended, and she steered me toward the Strawberries and Cream. $4 got me a very healthy portion. It was not really a slice, but more of an individual sized round cheesecake. I liked this a lot. I went back to the office, had lunch, and had my first taste. It was SO GOOD! It had a very light crumb crust at the buttom. I was so impressed I shared a couple of bites with two co workers who immediatelywanted to know where I had gotten it. I look forward to trying out the other selections which rotate daily. This is one truck not to be missed! read more

I type this a third of the way through my first slice of caramel pecan cheesecake. It is delicious though I have some reservations. The one-star drawback for me is that the slice suffers from the Crumbling Crust Syndrome. As someone with experience making graham cracker crusts, I consider the sugar granules in the crust a dental disaster waiting to happen. If the owners/bakers are reading, I suggest melting the sugar in the butter before mixing it with the crumbs for a cohesive and safe crust. I wanted to take off another half-star for the overall taste with a recommendation to ease up on the sugar and go for a firmer texture. Strictly in terms of texture and sweetness, this is too close to cheap yogurt. Still, for four bucks, I appreciate the size of the slice and the wonderful taste. Being able to swipe at a food truck was an added bonus. read more

I think most everyone else that has posted before me has already said what I'm thinking. They make a great product, and it's a fantastic alternative to the plethora of cupcake and frozen yogurt places that are so prevalent throughout the city. So far I've been able to indulge in the raspberry swirl, chocolate, and caramel pecan (probably one of the best desserts I've had in quite some time). All reasonably priced at $4, especially since it's easy to split one in half and share with a friend--or save it for later. If I had to think of a complaint... the fact that they donate 10% of their proceeds to a local charity makes it a little hard to resist the temptation when they're around. :) read more

The crust was too soft and did not have good texture and the cheesecake itself was mushy and looked rather small for $4. Basically this thing was everything a cheesecake shouldn't be like. I recently used them to cater a reception for my company and I could not have been happier with the result! The staff was incredibly easy to work with, our attendees loved the product, and it was very reasonably priced. People loved being able to go out to the truck and pick from 7 or 8 different flavors, ranging from plain to cookies and cream to blueberry lemon. The portions are enormous but that didn't stop most people from eating the whole thing. We got so many great comments and it really helped transform our event from a boring reception to a great experience! read more

I had the caramel pecan cheesecake, it was some of the better cheesecake I've had. I will definitely try them again when they are in the area. I will say that this isn't the type of cheesecake that comes out of the oven so the texture isn't like cheesecake you would get out of a real Italian restaurant but it still taste pretty good. read more

Um, not good. I don't know if it was the cookies n cream flavor i bought (i doubt it) but after hearing really good things about this truck, i decided to skip the balanced lunch and go straight for dessert. I'm sorry, this cheesecake is mediocre at best. It tastes kind of like a red-headed step sister of Jello No Bake cheesecake. The texture is all wrong and it tastes too sour which overpowers the sweetness and completely clashes with the chocolate. i too bake and cheesecake is my favorite dessert so now i am very sad :'(. On a positive note, the guy who sold me the cake was super cool and nice so u get two stars for having great customer service but no stars for having bad cake. After a disappointing black velvet cupcake at Red Velvet (normally great, but this one was missing something and was crumbly, maybe it was just old), I wandered up to this truck, as I was now entitled to a second (and maybe even a third) dessert to balance out the first poor one.
