We went here for dessert after dinner. We didn't realize it was pretty much in the middle of GW. There were a ton of students in line. Immediately after going in, around 10 PM, we noticed that the cashier was asking someone behind us to lock the doors. However, online it said they close at 1. I asked if they're closing soon and she said "Technically we close at 1, but we are running out of cookies and I really need to go home". Not sure what that was about, so we certainly felt pretty rushed and a bit unwanted. I ordered two cookies and milk. Chocolate chip, double chocolate chip and whole milk. The milk came in a little bottle which isn't ideal for dipping of course. But when asked she poured the milk into a cup for me. I also want to note that it was extremely loud in there, especially upstairs. It almost sounded like a nightclub in there. The cookies were pretty good, but not the best I have had. I think I enjoyed the concept of milk and cookies more than anything. The service and ambiance were not the best. There is plenty of seating on the upstairs floors which is nice. read more

Washington DC (Foggy Bottom) - man, I'm not even a sweets person, but I loved the ice cream & cookies here! There are 8 cookie flavors and 8 ice cream flavors, from which you can customize ice cream sandwiches, or pair with milk or soda, or opt for a shake. I had "the duo" and chose lemon crunch ice cream with a confetti cookie. The lemon ice cream is creamy and has such a great flavor and satisfying crunch, while the cookie is soft and chewy like cookie dough. Both were excellent treats in their own right. I was pretty stuffed after dinner so didn't finish all of it and put some in the freezer...took it out later and enjoyed the cookie just as much with a harder chewy texture. Whether you're looking to quell those munchies or are just craving something sweet and comforting, simple classic pleasures like milk & cookies or root beer floats never go out of style! read more

Intro: So my Wife is a huge cookie fan and we are trying every cookie spot in the NoVA. We finally tried this place and man it did not disappoint. Decor: Sadly this was probably the worst aspect of it. I totally understand its a small place and in a college town to student dont really care much. But still decor is part of the experience. Food Breakdown: We got a Chocolate Chip, Vanilla Ice Cream, Peanut Butter. And Overall they were all solid! I love insomnia cookie but I think the place just beat it out. I ate them all because I am a hefty, (admittedly) greedy man. I was visiting with my partner. Staff barely wanted to acknowledge a large group ready to order and we felt rushed to pick what to get. Not many ice cream flavors as you'd think they would have. We ordered the cookie sandwich chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream. A classic, but the cookies weren't anything special. The ice cream was solid. Not a place you'd want to sit down and it's not very inviting either. Wasn't familiar with the area so didn't realize this was actually inside Western Market. There is no signage to indicate that it's Captain Cookie from the inside. There were only 2 employees working when we went, wasn't impressed with the customer service or the food. We got the strawberry ice cream sandwich and it was too gooey, meaning the cookie was soft but the ice cream wasn't hard. I have been visiting and purchasing cookies and ice cream from Captain cookie since I first came across their store in the 2000 Penn building on GW campus in 2013, I make it a point to visit their store every time I have a medical appointment on campus. I have been using a wheelchair for the last 25 years. I am forever grateful that I live in a post ADA society. Yesterday, for the first time all year, I was on campus and I was shocked to see that the Captain Cookie location was closed. Eventually, as I exited the Western Market location, I saw a sandwich board declaring that Captain Cookie had moved right next door. After searching all around the entrance plaza area, I located a window with a Captain Cookie logo and a staircase leading to a door on the outside of what appeared to be the new store location. After being unable to find an accessible entrance, I called the 2000 Penn location and after confirming that they had moved, I asked if they had wheelchair access anymore. The person who answered the phone responded as though access were an afterthought, suggesting that I send a friend up the stairs to purchase my ice cream. Why on earth would any startup business choose to abandon their current, wheelchair accessible location in order to open an inaccessible venue in the same building? I am now unable to even visit the current Captain Cookie location at 2000 Penn Because of its current inaccessibility, I am providing a rating of Zero for this location read more

Small place I had a taste for something sweet, and I remembered seeing this place when walking around. They had a decent amount of cookie flavors + 3 kinds of ice cream. There was a bit of a line when I came in, but the young lady behind the register got through each person very quickly. If you are sharing, do yourself a favor and at least get the bakers dozen, these were delicious. I only got six, walked around and ate them and came back for six more. Captain Cookie & the Milkman is a staple, late-night ice cream/cookie shop inside Eastern Market. They normally have 6 cookie choices and 3-5 ice cream flavors available. When I went, they had the classic cookie (e.g., snickerdoodle, funfetti, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter) and ice cream (e.g., vanilla, chocolate, pecan, caramel) selections. I got their ice cream sandwich. It was pretty good. The cookies were a bit stale and the shop is a bit like a dungeon - crammed, small and unlit space. Workers are fine and seemingly unhappy. Really great place! It's a small little shop in the corner of Western Market, so it's in a great location and a great place to stop for some dessert. I had a cup of birthday cake ice cream and a snickerdoodle. Very big portion for a good price! Honestly, it was a bit sweet and too much for me, but definitely would be good for anyone with a sweet tooth. They don't have a lot of flavors for ice cream, but they still had a good selection. I've read and heard so many positive reviews with Captain Cookie and the Milkman but I was slightly disappointed. Decided to get some steps in so my friend and I walked all around D.C. and wanted cookies and ice cream for dessert. When we arrived, the doors were locked early and we had to call the store just to enter. Customer service is amazing and I think prices are fair. I had a peanut butter cookie with one scoop of ice cream while my friend had an ice cream sandwich with a funfetti cookie, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate chip cookie and side of 2% milk. My order came out perfect but my friend's cookies were rock hard--almost inedible. It really feels like a hit or miss when visiting but I would be willing to come back another time to give them another chance. read more

The cookies weren't very fresh. When trying to decide on which ice cream we wanted after trying one and wanting to try one more we were then told only 1 sample per person. Fine.. but let us know before we choose the first sample. They played Disney music, which I'm a semi-fan of so that was ok. A little after noon, I asked for the double chocolate cookies but they said they didn't have any so I ordered the regular chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were fresh, flavorful, hot, and just the right consistency without falling apart and had ample chocolate chips. I am impressed with my experience this time and recommend them. The staff were a bit unenergetic but thatunderstandable if you're making cookies all day and can't chomp into them--I know I wouldn't be able to resist! Looking forward to returning. read more

Captain Cookie and the Milk Man makes the best cookies in DC, and possibly the world. Our infamous ice cream sandwich is made with a huge scoop of local ice cream between two fresh-baked cookies. All our cookies are made from scratch, with incredible, (often local) ingredients. For example, our pumpkin cookie begins with "Roast and peel 10 pumpkins..." We bake our cookies fresh every day - look for exciting daily special cookie flavors and a weekly ice cream special!

History

Established in 2009.

1989: The Captain made his first chocolate chip cookie 1989-2004: Made (and ate) thousands of cookie recipes. Passed AP Calc thanks to chocolate-chip pecan cookies. Definitely used cookies to get a date at least once. OK twice. 2004-2008: Made a mobile dorm "bakery" using cardboard boxes, foil, etc. Worked 3 years at a real bakery. Began catering cookie events. 2008-2011: Moved to DC. Started "Kirk's Cookies, LLC" wholesaling to area coffee shops while consulting full-time for the Dept. of Homeland Security. 2011-2012: Bought a 1988 Washington Post delivery van and spent a year building it into Cookie 1, the original cookie-bakin' magic machine. 2013: Cookie 2 hits the streets of DC! 2014: Cookie 3 launches! 2015: Captain Cookie, the store(!) opens at 2000 Penn. 2021: Captain Cookie takes over the world. All disputes are resolved with cookies. Milk is added to the Bill of Rights.

I was still a little hesitant until this nice woman came along and vouched for the food. I had no idea about what to order, but as soon as I saw her food come out I was sold. I told the guys to give me exactly what she had, which included a quarter chicken, corn, and potatoes. I got back up to my office and enjoyed all of it. The chicken was well done and well seasoned, the corn was tasty, and the potatoes were better than what I was expecting. Can't really explain it but they were like roasted and mashed at the same time.. whatever it was it was great! Oh and that sweet orange sauce that they gave me took the chicken to another level. Both times I've ordered the same thing - a quarter dark meat with one side. It comes with basmati rice (which you can sub out for a different side) and a choice of a salad, coleslaw, and corn. I've chosen the coleslaw both times - I find it so unique, with its cabbage and basil-like dressing. Definitely NOT your usual slaw. I will try the corn one of these days, though. On to the chicken - They give you a good amount of chicken and it is very, very juicy. I can't comment about the skin (I don't eat the skin, I take it off...I know to some of you that's a sin!) but my co-workers have previously commented that it is nicely seasoned. They also provide you with a mild barbeque sauce, and today they gave me a new sauce, which was curry-based. It's slightly thicker than the barbeque sauce, which while it has good flavor, is a bit thinner (it complements, not overpowers, the chicken). I alternated between both sauces today. I have to also complement the owner/manager - I had exactly $8 in cash (keep forgetting about the taxes for food trucks!) so he let me go without paying the $.80, that was really nice of him. I'll be sure to give it back to him next time! Overall, a solid, filling meal, and I would return!
