Went here for dinner on a Monday night while visiting from out of town! The restaurant itself is pretty nice, and the patio looked fantastic - however, because it was late October, I sat inside, at the bar. The food was decent! Nothing crazy delicious - but I got the mac & cheese and broccoli tapas and they were good. The drink specials were awesome - $5 glasses of wine for Monday's drink specials (Happy Hour specials all night on Monday.) I'm from Washington State and we came across this gem in Kalispell. ... not it Whitefish (hmmm..?). The staff and the food is simply amazing and this restaurant would definitely thrive in any urban area even if they have to raise their prices. Would love it if they move to lowly Federal Way. The restaurant has a more upscale and romantic feel. It's modern. It's a place to bring a date or simply put, if you want to impress someone. The service is great! The servers are very informative and would even ask the chef if the menu needed to be explained further. The food is more of a fusion style. If you're picky eater, you might despair- but for the rest of you who love adventure in your palate. This place is it. What I ordered was the steak tartare, the meatballs and the sliders. The overwhelming favorite is the fries- best ones I've tried in a long time. I've enjoyed my steak tartare but I was looking for the egg yolk- it's explained that it is an aioli which is quite clever given that most people may not like raw egg yolk in their raw meat. The bison sliders is a meal by itself. It was very scrumptious to look at and I just wish I'm never full so I can eat more. Our other orders were the Airline Chicken and the meatballs. Shoestring style fries were OK, I found it very odd that when we asked for catchup we got a strange blend of Worcestershire sauce and ketchup. it was terrible, and the waitress had to pull from her secret stash to give us regular Heinz ketchup. it's hard to screw up frozen calamari, and I knew this when I ordered it. I was just hoping that cook it long enough, you know until it's golden brown. It came basically translucent and undercooked and mostly in edible. Sweet-and-sour sauce and the aioli we're OK, but nothing to write home about. end up leaving about half of the plate because it wasn't Brown enough. Frozen calamari that is under cooked, it's like chewing on rubber. The service was great, and our waitress was very nice. We went in for Whitefish Handcrafted Spirits tasting event at 406 Bar and Grill that we saw on Instagram. We had never been to this restaurant. The ambiance was good and they had a singer in the bar area. They carry two types of WHS liquor. Cranberry Moon and Contraband Whiskey. I tried both drinks they offered during the event and they were both tasty. I was hoping they carried the Rum with Spices but not yet. We also ate and had the Bison sliders, Ahi Tacos and Brie Cheese. All were good but I really enjoyed the Brie which is served on a hot buttered skillet. When the bartender showed the menu he mentioned several things they were out of which was a bit odd early on a Friday night but we found what we ordered to be of good quality and tasty. Items we've had we didn't like: Wedge Salad (a little flat in flavor for me), Curry Chicken Salad (too vinegary, not enough oil, really healthy though!), Lamb Naan (lacked flavor), Pineapple Bread Pudding (good flavor but undercooked). Some of the tapas that were just ok: Lamb Meatballs, Buffalo Sliders, Chorizo Mushrooms, Empanadas, Sriracha Shrimp. We wouldn't get them again. We've tried several other items that are seasonal and/or no longer on the menu. I had some crazy good Sundried Tomato Chicken some-thin-or-other with cream sauce and potatoes. The great thing is, Chef is always trying something new, and that's totally worth paying for. The music they play is horrible. Right now, 80s rock, Def Leppard-Pour Some Sugar On Me. Today is the first day open for 406 bar and grill. My parents and I are also their first customer of the night. The first round of tapas were delicious! Pork belly fries, grilled lamb chops, and prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. The pork belly fries are killer. The grilled lamb chops we ended up ordering twice and they were overcooked both times. The prosciutto wrapped mozzarella was really good but the cheese was a little dry and the whole thing could have used some cherry tomatoes like a caprese salad. We decided to stay for entrees. WHICH WAS A BIG MISTAKE. The paella was bland and the mussels tasted like a lake. The Brie burger was over cooked and dry. The ceaser salad with lemon shrimp was the best of all of it. We were really disappointed in the end. I gave them three stars because the manager was really considerate and cared about our complaints and suggestions. She also ended up taking off 40$ of the food. The drinks were good, we witnessed first hand that the bartender was over pouring but that's not a complaint as a customer. read more

This place is incredible! Everything we have tried here tastes great! The service has been friendly. The presentation of both the food and the restaurant are classy. In the summer, you can even eat outside the restaurant. This is definitely now one of my top favorite places to eat in the Flathead Valley. We particularly enjoyed the Thai street tacos, which were incredibly fresh tasting. We also greatly enjoyed their 406 burger with the accompanying garlic/Parmesan/herb French fries. After our meal, they actually charged us a LOWER price than the menu advertised--even after we asked to make sure it was correct. Previously this same location has housed other restaurants (such as the North Bay Grille) which were all disappointments. But the new owners have really transformed it. We will return!!! read more

Strike number two: server takes my tapa order while I am looking over the entrees and puts in an order for the saffron sea scallops. Or should have put in the order. The entree came out later without any sign of the scallops. A glimmer of hope: the stroganoff was delicious with a great presentation! This is going to be a mixed review. After a day of hiking in glacier, we were looking forward to a nice dinner. I found this restaurant on yelp. First I tried to make a reservation using Yelp but it showed that there were no reservations available. So I called the restaurant, only to find that there were plenty of tables available. Don't know what the problem is with Yelp. Second, yelp offered a five dollar discount on a tapa if you checked in. The restaurant itself is very nice. Upscale, dark-ish, smooth jazz intimate. We arrived early and there was almost no one there. By the end of the evening, everyone had been seated in our room, including a large birthday party. It got quite loud. The kitchen needs to quiet down. You could hear the bickering, the waitresses, the cooks, the pots and pans. I know that cooking is work. But that is not what they are shooting for. The waitress was very good and very helpful. Frankly, she saved the meal with her winning personality. She said that the five dollar discount on the tapa was discontinued since "2015" and they couldn't figure out how to get it off yelp so she would give it to us anyway. Nice to have, but odd. The Bruschetta crostini was really really good. But 3 pieces were certainly not $12 worth of good, and I was glad to have the discount. It was also "happy hour all night" after a glass of cheap Chardonnay plus a tall margarita I could still do math in my head, so there wasn't much tequila in the happy hour margarita (any?) My husband had fish and chips. He said it was-good, but IMHO it was two pieces of $6 battered whitefish with $12 worth of french fries. No presentation. I was hopeful that the salmon would be better, but it was overcooked, underseasoned and it came with a large amount of roasted potatoes on a plate of what amounted to a watery soup, not a sauce. Again, poor presentation. It also had red onions and more than enough dill. Salt and pepper could not make it interesting and I gave up while I was still hungry. I ordered flan for dessert. It was about a quarter cup of gummy pudding - not creamy - and the caramel tasted like it came out of a bottle. They have a very ambitious menu, but they over-promise. Some things are very good and others are substandard. If it was all very good, the prices would have been fine. But since you don't know what you're going to get for the $ it's overpriced. "Wow" is probably the best way to describe the consistently high quality of each tapa-style dish I sampled. From the prosciutto-enveloped asparagus, to the bacon-wrapped dates, to the fried goat cheese, to the eggplant cannelloni, to the lamb meatballs--the cook and sauces and flavors were sheer perfection. The bison sliders (juicy) and both types of fries (just the right crisp) were also very good. The drink menu did not disappoint either--I mean, steak as a cocktail garnish...shut the front door! I called another waiter over as mine wasn't around, she takes it back. My waiter comes back with the same steak and says it's probably just the lighting at the table. What?! I said... I've eaten thousands of steaks over my lifetime, I think I know what the difference is between medium rare and medium/medium-well! He says, do you want me to have them cook it rare? I said... certainly rarer than that!! He comes back out AGAIN with the SAME steak and the waiter apologizes but the chef has said that he temperature checks each steak and if he has to cook another he will charge me for another! I thought I was being punked on a tv show and I was looking for the cameras! So I ate my then cold steak and potatoes. The waiter comes back and asks if he can buy me a drink or desert... They have been impossible to get ahold of whether over the phone, email or social media. Understandably, COVID19 has slowed some things but that is not an excuse for not communicating when we had reached out multiple ways over multiple channels. When a reply was given, it was rude and the blame was somehow turned on us. As in, we were in the wrong for not understanding when we had not been communicated with for weeks. All this to say, I do not recommend using this business for any reason. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is one of the tapas we ordered "the Lamb Skewer" was a little over-cooked. I was on a solo adventure during my time here and was looking for a good local fare while reading my local guide to hikes in Glacier. It was a weekday and around 5pm so it wasn't busy, and I was able to get a booth all to myself. I ordered a couple appetizers as my main meal - halibut skewers with bacon and bison sliders. Both delicious. The prices on the higher end $12-$15 per app and only have Pepsi products. I'm a Coke girl, so I was kind of disappointed by that after a long hot day of walking around. Why 3 Stars? The prices were on the higher end of my budget - being about $40 for two apps and a Pepsi. I won't dock a point for Pepsi The service was a little off-putting. I was seated promptly, but otherwise if I had questions, they were short and curt responses from the waitress and I think she was annoyed when I asked for refills on my drink. They were incredibly accommodating to my son, letting him run around, etc. I had a stout, it was a little flat. Disappointing. My son had the hot dog kids meal and it was huge! The fries were great and loved the hot dog. I got the steak salad, sans cheese. While all the ingredients were good, the steak was cooked medium and I asked for rare. The salads are composed strangely, the dressing is tossed in and all the components are dumped on top in little piled of one ingredient each. So it's hard to mix it together. My mom got an ahi salad. The meat was cooked fine but very small portion. Same composition issues. My dad got the prime beef sandwich. It came with potato chips that appeared homemade and we're super delicious. He loved the sandwich! We also ordered a basket of the sweet potato truffle fries, sans cheese. They were to die for. Best thing of the whole meal! Highly recommend. The steak (medium rare) was cooked to perfection, well over the advertised 8 oz, and melted in your mouth. Highly recommend the jalapeño creamed corn. Had an excellent bottle of Chianti for $14 with the 1/2 price wine Wednesday. Overall, great prices for bottles of wine, even when not on special. Im not sure if you can request waitresses to be your server but if I could i would definitely choose Kayla. Know that if you get her you're lucky. We had very high hopes for this place and we started to realize there might be a problem when the "gentleman" at the front ushered us towards a table handed us the menus and had us seat ourselves. That was after waiting at the hostess stand for a few minutes and wondering if we were even at the right place. We waited five or 10 minutes for someone to come see us and eventually a woman who turned out to be the manager came over and started taking our order. She quickly realized that we didn't have the drink menu, the special menu, or even the water they were supposed to be placed at our table. This woman who is the manager is also the owner and I really can't say enough about her. She obviously cares about what she's doing and really does aim to make sure the customers happy. Things got a little bit busier inside and as a result the guy who had told us to go sit down turned out to be the waiter that we were supposed to have had the whole time. She came over to ask if we wanted anything for dessert and then brought the bill. Even that he seem to feel overwhelmed with and it took 10 minutes maybe 15 minutes to get the bill. I'm torn. The food was decent, but the service was practically nonexistent. We spent over two hours there, and almost all of that was waiting. I ordered the Manicotti, which was good, but my original plate of it was dropped just before it reached our table. That server was incredibly apologetic and kind. It was an accident, it happens. Our primary server, however, was not so gracious about it. The meal was not comped or discounted. The second dish took about another 10-15 minutes to arrive. We were then caught waiting for our server again (and mind you, it was not at all busy when we were there). He finally brought out a dessert menu. We ordered the chocolate cheesecake, which I genuinely would not recommend. It was surprisingly dense-- to the point where a knife would have been beneficial. Our waiter didn't bring the check until he notices that we piled every plate and napkin at the end of the table (even though he passed by 3 or so times). At this point we're more than ready to leave. I noticed one of the waiters smoking outside, and as soon as he walked back in the restaurant filled with the smell of cigarettes. All of this, and we were seated right by a "Voted Best Waiter in the Flathead" sign. I might go back, but the standards do not match the prices. read more
