It boasts of barbecue style sandwiches and menu and this place was packed on a Friday at 3pm! Hosts looked like are the owners of the place made every effort to go above and beyond to seat the guests and look after them. They have the bar seating facing the kitchen where we occupied the last 2 seats remaining in the restaurant getting the live action right in front of us. We ordered the PBJ (pork belly jelly bites) and brisket cheese steak sandwich with jalapeno mac n cheese on the side. Both the dishes were amazing and we will surely stop by here again when in the area. The whole sassy sandwiches section look like a must try. Only thing we will try to avoid here is the desserts that were not bad at all but because we saw them being made in front of us now we know it is just assembled we may not order more of that. We got the huckleberry peach cobbler and banana pudding. Both the dishes aren't really made from scratch and had we not seen how they're assembled we may not judge it too harshly.

I think she needs more training in service. The owners were very nice and exemplified what I think service should be. The bacon mac was not good and rather flavorless. Mac & cheese is one of the benchmarks of a good BBQ place. Collard greens I think had BBQ sauce? making them very tangy and not good at all, almost inedibly sour for me. They tasted better the next day mixed with other things. Elk sausage came smothered in more BBQ sauce and mustard. I wish these were on the side so that I could control how much sauce was on there. Cornbread seemed good but if I really looked at it, the cornbread was rather bland and the server instructed us to put honey on it. Well anything is good when you pour honey & butter over it. Loved the decor. I think because they're so busy, it became quantity over quality, unfortunately.

Speaking of staff, not the friendliest bunch; not outright mean or anything, but it wasn't warm service and my party had just visited another tap room on the way over and those folks made us feel right at home. Not so at Sunrift, though. The beer is just okay. Nothing to really write home about by any means. The Chislic was good--though it wasn't much of a garlic butter sauce so much as a bunch of chopped garlic with a bit of butter. Excellent cook on the beef though. The real sticker though? This is a place with really pro-LEO vibes and if for whatever reason that isn't your cup of tea and you wish you'd read that somewhere beforehand? Now you know. I wish I had--it would've influenced my decision to spend my money here. I'm not a local and I can't imagine I'll find myself back at Sunrift, but maybe it's for you?

Hush puppies were fine, but we noticed we did eat them all. There can be a bit of frantic energy there, but Brie made sure we were dialed in and everything went well. Would get it again. 8oz of brisket was a good size portion for one. Half rack of ribs fed 2. If you do take out, call ahead to make sure there isn't a wait. It might help to time your order.

The rib and brisket meat was not fresh. Tasted reheated and dry. The Mac & cheese was just okay and the baked beans had a mixture of different beans in them and were not a traditional baked bean. The platters were served with cornbread. While it was served cold, it did come with honey butter that was tasty. The smoked chicken was very good, but I wish it had been fresh as well. The pulled pork slider kids meal was not finely chopped and hard to eat because it was not fresh. The barbecue sauce was very good!

Wonderful entree salad at Brannigans today, at least 6-7oz of lettuce. I can now understand why FD's has not been busy at all each time our group goes there. Oh well, never again. Tonight I ordered the Dave's Sassy Salad and was surprised by the portion size. It was actually flat on the plate with only a VERY small amount of salad mix. Less than a cup of salad mix, so maybe 1-1.5oz. I asked for it to be remade, assuming it may have been an oversight. The second salad arrived with a similar portion, so I told the server I didn't want it either. Our server was polite but completely unsure/untrained regarding how to resolve such issues. She could only relay what the kitchen told her, that the portion sizes were correct. She asked if I wanted anything else but only in passing on her way to another table. This implied to me that she really didn't care. A manager or supervisor was never even brought to the table, which would have been helpful in addressing the concern more directly. Getting a manager/supervisor is always expected with issues regarding food in a restaurant. For context, a friend at the table ordered a half side salad that appeared to contain noticeably more lettuce than the entrée salad I received. Based on typical expectations, an entrée salad is generally a more substantial portion. Normally 4-6 ounces for an entree salad. I have been in the restaurant business for over 45 years as a manager and owner so I completely understand restaurants have established portion standards and operational considerations. This was way beyond acceptable by any means. Needless to say I will never be back and will share my experience.

The dining area is fairly large and comfortable. Feels very old school but also happened to have someone playing the piano with some classic western ish vibes if you know what I mean that really gave this more charm. Food is very generous and definitely recommend splitting the prospectors breakfast. Chicken fried steak, a monster biscuit, hash browns and two eggs with gravy is a lot to take down. Even if you were to do a long after, not sure you can burn off this many calories. Chicken fried steak is good - thin and crisp but with a breadcrumb like crust instead of the floured stuff I'm used to getting down south. Sausage gravy is flavorful and a classic pairing but you can also opt for brown gravy instead. The biscuit is moist and a good utensil to soak up the gravy. Eggs and hash browns needed seasoning - there's no salt on it so add it yourself but the griddled crisp on the hash browns were good. Some of my friends got the home fries but noted they weren't that great so stick with the hash. Accessible parking downtown and a good stop to fuel up!
