Folks, Keith the owner had told us the last time we were here about his Wednesday Special, which is a Pork Chop that has been marinated. This special doesn't appear on the menu, so you guys need to know. We went for this Special today the 29 th of May. We brought along our best friend Mrs Beckie, and we all had the Special. Wow, wow, wow, don't miss this if you like pork chops! Without a doubt one of the best tasting pork chops I ever had. It came with two sides, I had Cole slaw and green beans, also both worthy of mention. The wife's had mashed potatoes and slaw and miss Beckie had apples and slaw. Now get this, it was only $9.00. Let me also add seniors get coffee or tea, free. Are you getting this, go already M

    Bacon cheeseburger and onion rings

Great place. Really busy at noon but they got to me within about 5 minutes. Not too bad considering packed house. I had the bacon cheeseburger fixed the way I like it and an order of onion rings. Patties were smashed type and everything tasted fresh. Onion rings were think and crispy. I added salt to my onion rings because that's the way I like them. Have some cool historical pictures of the area. I'm all about knowing what the area is about. Friendly staff.

Tasty spicy pimento cheese tried valiantly to save the cheeseburger.

I was so excited to try this place. I mean, how many places have a 5 star rating? (Granted, only 8 reviews, but still.) My excitement mounted when I walked in and discovered that it is clearly popular, cutely decorated, and staffed by an incredibly nice and helpful staff (every single one of them--owner, server, even the busboy--were very polite and accommodating, bending over backwards to meet the needs of the customers). "This is going to be AWESOME!", I said unto myself. But pretty soon after diving into my cheeseburger, hot dog all the way, fries, and sweet tea, I found myself somewhat distressed...almost alarmed. I wanted it to be amazing! But, alas, the food just wasn't very good. The cheeseburger was dry, dense, and bland. The sweet tea was severely watered down. The hot dog was also bland. The slaw was ok, but the chili was a major disappointment--big chunks of ground beef with no chili flavor at all. Hot dog chili should be chopped very fine and should taste like....well, chili. I don't think the cook even waved a bottle of chili powder over the ground beef much less sprinkled any on it. I felt a sense of duty somehow to save this rating from what was looking like 2 stars. The owner suggested earlier that their spicy pimento cheese was delicious, so I ordered a cup. It was indeed quite good, and it made a valiant effort to save the cheeseburger. Friday is also chicken salad day, and the owner asked me if I would like to sample it. I declined at first, but at this point took him up on his offer. It was very tasty. So this is a cute little diner located in downtown Wilkesboro and is owned and operated by an amazingly nice group of people. But the food was hit or miss for me.

Happy to say lunch is delicious too! The homemade chicken salad and egg salad are to die for. YES, it's really homemade! Onion rings and fries are crispy and piping HOT! Hubby's footlong was split fried on request and really tasty! My friend said her roast beef sandwich was delicious as well. The 50's never disappoints!

The nostalgia is worth the visit. The food wasn't bad but wouldn't bring me back. Service was prompt and friendly.

At first glance, the place is very run down, it has the old southern diner feel, but I don't think they have enough employees to keep the place up 100%. Our waitress was very very nice, she was having to wait on folks and go back to wash dishes since they don't have a dishwasher (at the time of me posting this anyways). Half the seating was closed off and the lights dimmed. Aside from the scenery of the place, this is the type of restaurant you'd take your southern grandma too and she'd love it. You have all these southern dishes to choose from!! I was personally excited to see they serve liver mush sandwiches, so that's what I got. I added egg to mine and it was not expensive at all. It was very basic but gosh was it yummy. I also had a side of tropical fruit which came with pineapple, papaya, and peaches. All of that plus a sweet tea totaled to about 10 dollars. I tipped generously because I felt bad that they had no help. I truly do think this place could be buzzing with business, they just need the employees/help to do it. If you're in the area, I do suggest you go in and try the food, while the ambience/scenery isn't the greatest, you will be served with a smile and get some delicious southern home cooking. I wish the owners the best of luck.

Bacon was cold and too crisp. Refined wheat bread came unbuttered and too cool to add butter. Coffee was weak. The space was not exceptionally well maintained and had a 92.5% health department rating. The was a slight odor of cleaning fluid (something akin to PineSol) when you walked in the door. Wait staff was VERY polite and hard working, which makes a review like thus one hard to write, but which kicks this one to two stars. We suspect pre-boomer locals frequent the place, and have grown comfortable with the place.

Yuminess: 8/10 Allergy Safety: 6/10…read morePrice: 4/10 Atmosphere: 10/10 Service: 4/10 Overall: Food was solid, but not a lot of allergy-friendly options (dairy or gluten). Price was definitely high for the portion size, and service was... interesting. Not the friendliest or most helpful. However, the atmosphere is 10/10; it's cozy with plenty of local products available. Likely wouldn't return on my own. In-depth: First, the atmosphere is the best part of this place. It's a large, cozy space with artwork everywhere, games (like chess) to play, and local products to buy. Perfect for reading, working on a computer, or a family day out. Food was also pretty solid. I got the spinach quiche and cloud 9 latte, both of which were delicious, though the latte was a bit too sweet and they did forget to add the whip cream. However, the price is definitely high for what you get. The latte was around $7, and the quiche was $10, even though it was pretty small. I also didn't see many gluten- or dairy-friendly food options, though they did have milk alternatives for the drinks. Now, my biggest gripe: the service. I went last week, and the manager was operating the register. He didn't seem very happy, but hey, not everyone is all smiles at work -- it is work after all. However, he was nice enough when I asked what quiches they had. This is not where my complaint comes from, though. I visited with my friend, and as she was walking back with her spinach pie, she sadly dropped it right on the floor. This is definitely her fault, yes. But how it was handled left a bad taste in my mouth. She cleaned up the mess herself and went to tell the workers. The lady pointed to the manager and told her he would handle it in an offhand manner (although she was nicer later, so maybe she was just busy). When we went to the manager, she told him what happened and asked if she would need to buy a new one. He rolled his eyes, sarcastically said, "Oh no!" then deadpanned, "Yes, you will need to buy a new one," and that was that. While many other restaurants may offer to pay or offer a discount, we 100% understood it was her mistake, not theirs. So, it is fair that she had to repay. What wasn't great was the unnecessary rude attitude. Overall, I might come back if someone wanted to meet here, but I would definitely hope no issues come up that would require me to deal with the service. Beyond that, I wouldn't come back myself.
