    Loaded blackened chicken salad
    Jill M.

Hometown diner loved by locals! Service was good food was good, flies were bad, prices very good. The old timey fly strips hanging above the table next to ours wasn't working effectively. Floor was sticky and bathrooms are outside (think gas station style). I had the loaded blackened chicken salad and hubby had cheeseburger dinner with a baked potato both of us had iced tea. Less than $25.

Hotdog all the way with house chips

My first time ever eating from Glenn's! The hotdog was pretty good, but it had way too much mustard so it overpowered it. I ended up taking the hotdog and toppings out of the bun to remove as much of the mustard as I could and it was still a lot. Next time I'll just ask for easy mustard! The chips were delicious and crispy! Overall it was good and we will definitely be going back. There were so many good options on the menu it was hard to choose what to get! Service was good and we ordered take out, so we didn't get a good feel for the atmosphere inside, but it's casual and laid back for sure!

    In-house tatered tots

Upon entering we sat ourselves in a cozy, well established diner style restaurant. There was a good combination of photo top booths, bar seating, and pull up chair table tops. Low-key loved having lunch here. Went with the server recommendation of the rodeo chick sandwich. Friends, this was a bread chicken patty, crispy bacon, melty provolone cheese, subtle bbq sauce and a perfect fried onion ring. I can't deny that this will become a future craving. And yes the tots are tatered in-house. Crispy, flaky, hot and perfect. This will be included in the "Lunching in Wilkesboro" monthly rotation.

Super cute, super old, divey diner. Very inexpensive, cheap even. Food was fast and fresh. Burger and BLT, and fries. Service a bit slow but we weren't in a hurry. Fun classic place that is historic and getting close to one of a kind. Worth the jaunt off the highway. Fun ice cream options too, shakes and dipped cones! They were out of a lot of dessert options though.

I found a hair in my salad

Glenn's is a local spot that has pics of the beloved Glenn periodically posted around. Soft crispy tater tots were a great addition to excellent burger. Local spot that looks to be loved for their lunch food as well their sweet treats.

New experiences this next year and starting now! I searched online while the hubby drove and came up with this spot. I ordered the three-meat plate which included two sides and hushpuppies, and my husband ordered the fish and chips (shocker-Brit!), which also included two sides of his choice. He raved about the piece of fish and after taking a bite, I had to agree. A nice thick piece and the breading was just right. Nice fries as well. I didn't try the beans but my husband enjoyed them. I wasn't as enamored with the meats I received. They were just ok as Q goes, lacking any smoke flavor or crunchy bits like I prefer. The sauces were delicious though and while I'm not usually much of a sauce person I enjoyed them and as a result enjoyed the meats. The slaw and collards I had were again just ok. Points for being house-made, but I adore cole slaw and this slaw is a bit dry and needs some oomph. A little Duke's and ACV would make this amazing. A nice crunch and chop is already there but I would tweak it a bit. The collards were cooked perfectly and tasty but again, ACV is needed. Maybe even just add it to the sauce mixes on the table, so folks can doctor their dishes if desired? Why a photo of the silverware you ask? I was so happy to get real silverware and heavy, substantial pieces! It elevates my experience, just me maybe. As I was grabbing a few more photos of the bistro I noticed a nice bourbon selection, and being a bourbon aficionado I had to get closer. I had a nice chat with the owner, who explained a special weekly event he does for folks to try some premium grade liquors at cost and even went on to explain that he makes most of his infusions and mixes in house. Big points for that. I only wish we didn't live over an hour away, but maybe we can get back for some cocktail events at some point. I would/will definitely return and try some other menu items. Service was great, cleanliness is clearly high on their list, and everyone was just super nice.

At first glance, the place is very run down, it has the old southern diner feel, but I don't think they have enough employees to keep the place up 100%. Our waitress was very very nice, she was having to wait on folks and go back to wash dishes since they don't have a dishwasher (at the time of me posting this anyways). Half the seating was closed off and the lights dimmed. Aside from the scenery of the place, this is the type of restaurant you'd take your southern grandma too and she'd love it. You have all these southern dishes to choose from!! I was personally excited to see they serve liver mush sandwiches, so that's what I got. I added egg to mine and it was not expensive at all. It was very basic but gosh was it yummy. I also had a side of tropical fruit which came with pineapple, papaya, and peaches. All of that plus a sweet tea totaled to about 10 dollars. I tipped generously because I felt bad that they had no help. I truly do think this place could be buzzing with business, they just need the employees/help to do it. If you're in the area, I do suggest you go in and try the food, while the ambience/scenery isn't the greatest, you will be served with a smile and get some delicious southern home cooking. I wish the owners the best of luck.

Bacon was cold and too crisp. Refined wheat bread came unbuttered and too cool to add butter. Coffee was weak. Wait staff was VERY polite and hard working, which makes a review like thus one hard to write, but which kicks this one to two stars. We suspect pre-boomer locals frequent the place, and have grown comfortable with the place.

The server would hardly speak to me and even my husband commented that he didn't know what her issue was with me specifically. They were out of their daily special of chicken dumplings because the other table apparently ordered the last bowl so we had to pivot, which wa fine. We ordered a mozzarella stick appetizer, a bacon cheeseburger and fries, a chicken club and fries, and a regular hotdog "all the way" with fries. We also all 3 had tea. My son and I got 1 scoop of ice cream each at the end. The girl who scooped the ice cream was way over to us than our server was. The sandwiches seemed to be pretty good, the fries were good, my hot dog was the worst hotdog I've ever had. There was so much mayo (which I don't think usually comes on a hotdog all the way but each place is different) that all I could taste was the mayo and bread. The bread was hard on one side, the hot dog was tiny and over cooked to where it was tough. Our total was right at $70. We would have went to Applebees or Olive Garden if we had anticipated spending $70 on a lackluster dinner that I didn't even eat but half of and the server never even asked if everything was okay. All in all everything would have been fine if the hot dog hadn't been inedible and if the price wasn't that of a chain sit down restaurant

Yuminess: 8/10 Allergy Safety: 6/10…read morePrice: 4/10 Atmosphere: 10/10 Service: 4/10 Overall: Food was solid, but not a lot of allergy-friendly options (dairy or gluten). Price was definitely high for the portion size, and service was... interesting. Not the friendliest or most helpful. However, the atmosphere is 10/10; it's cozy with plenty of local products available. Likely wouldn't return on my own. In-depth: First, the atmosphere is the best part of this place. It's a large, cozy space with artwork everywhere, games (like chess) to play, and local products to buy. Perfect for reading, working on a computer, or a family day out. Food was also pretty solid. I got the spinach quiche and cloud 9 latte, both of which were delicious, though the latte was a bit too sweet and they did forget to add the whip cream. However, the price is definitely high for what you get. The latte was around $7, and the quiche was $10, even though it was pretty small. I also didn't see many gluten- or dairy-friendly food options, though they did have milk alternatives for the drinks. Now, my biggest gripe: the service. I went last week, and the manager was operating the register. He didn't seem very happy, but hey, not everyone is all smiles at work -- it is work after all. However, he was nice enough when I asked what quiches they had. This is not where my complaint comes from, though. I visited with my friend, and as she was walking back with her spinach pie, she sadly dropped it right on the floor. This is definitely her fault, yes. But how it was handled left a bad taste in my mouth. She cleaned up the mess herself and went to tell the workers. The lady pointed to the manager and told her he would handle it in an offhand manner (although she was nicer later, so maybe she was just busy). When we went to the manager, she told him what happened and asked if she would need to buy a new one. He rolled his eyes, sarcastically said, "Oh no!" then deadpanned, "Yes, you will need to buy a new one," and that was that. While many other restaurants may offer to pay or offer a discount, we 100% understood it was her mistake, not theirs. So, it is fair that she had to repay. What wasn't great was the unnecessary rude attitude. Overall, I might come back if someone wanted to meet here, but I would definitely hope no issues come up that would require me to deal with the service. Beyond that, I wouldn't come back myself.
