Before even attending, I had messaged directly with Cleo and made it clear that I wasn't a beginner -- I even asked about taking "high intermediate" in case the "pole tricks" class was full, and she said she could place me in that class. So my level was known ahead of time. I signed up and took an intermediate class ("Heavy Metal Hoes" with Cleo). It was more choreo-heavy than I'm used to, but I showed up and gave it my best. During class, Cleo called me out and suggested I take an 8-week course because the other students had been in that specific class for years. I brushed it off at the time -- I understand instructors wanting consistency. After class, I approached her to cancel my membership (purely for financial reasons), and that's when things got uncomfortable. Instead of simply helping me cancel, she grew defensive and began justifying the studio's pricing by pointing out her lighting and pole options -- even though I had never complained about any of that. She then stated that just because I'm intermediate at my studio doesn't mean I'm intermediate at hers, and wrapped things up by telling me her therapist had explained the difference between sympathy and empathy, and that she was "trying to sympathize" with me. The comment felt unnecessary and condescending. What really stood out to me, though, was that when I later spoke with one of her employees, she suggested I could just avoid taking classes when Cleo was there rather than canceling. That alone told me my experience wasn't an isolated one -- clearly, others have had similar issues if staff are already prepared with that kind of workaround. To give credit where it's due: the studio is gorgeous, the students seem supportive of one another, and the community energy is strong. But my personal interaction with Cleo left a bad taste. Canceling a membership shouldn't turn into an uncomfortable lecture or a psychological evaluation. I hope this was just a one-off, but based on what I've seen and heard, it may be a recurring issue. Edit to respond to Cleo's edit that she just left 10/14: Hi Cleo, I mentioned the therapist comment because it felt out of place in the situation and came across as condescending. All I was trying to do was cancel my membership, but the way our conversation unfolded made me feel pressured to stay, which added to the negative experience. I had to switch back and forth with a stranger which was awkward and made it even harder for me to pick up the moves. I was, after all, a beginner in a beginner's class. I would consider returning if the studio committed to not overbooking the equipment. For example, a Pilates studio would never ask you to share a Reformer with a stranger, and The Vertitude should hold itself to the same standards as other gym studios with special equipment.

I have been to several classes here but have only taken pole choreo classes, so I'm not sure how the pole tricks classes are. All of the teachers I've taken from here have been wonderful and they do an amazing job of breaking down all of the moves and teaching any tricks that are incorporated into the dance. I have learned how to create more fluidity in my dances here. The space is on the smaller side as there is only one studio inside, but the poles are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel claustrophobic in a full class. The lobby is also great and comfortable to wait in and they sell some apparel and shoes there. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming here, from the students to the teachers.

I come from a 13+ year dance background and had tried pole dance classes a handful of times before deciding to purchase my membership. That said, you do not need to have an athletic/dance background or be any specific age to try pole dance or aerial arts, since pole is for EVERY body and every level of athletic ability. After going through a rough end to 2019, I was looking for a new hobby to occupy my time. I wanted something that would challenge me both physically and mentally. While pole dance is difficult can be painful at first, through excellent coaching and mental perseverance, I have transformed my body, gained strength, self-love, and have met incredible humans from all walks of life. I came for the workout and stayed for the vibes. This studio offers all kinds of unique classes with new classes constantly being added to the schedule. Pole choreography, tricks, spins, conditioning/fitness, technique, burlesque, belly dance, aerial silks, lyra hoop, flexibility, flow props, and so much more. There are classes offered at all times of the day to accommodate any schedule (including evenings and weekends for my fellow m-f 9-5 working folks). There are also so many options for purchasing classes. Just go to the website and you'll see that you can pay for an individual class, package of classes, or monthly, 6-month, or 1-year unlimited membership. Registration is through the MINDBODY app/website which is super easy to use. First timers, get there early so you have time to street park. There are specific shoes made just for pole dancing so don't bring any street heels. If you want to try dancing in pole heels (which you totally should even if it seems intimidating), there are plenty of all sizes and styles to try! I recommend boots over sandals for extra ankle support and stability. The instructors here are so kind and encouraging. I've tried to take classes with almost every instructor and have found that I've learned something new and different from everyone. Try taking classes with different instructors and you will surely find ones that you connect with! The studio hosts showcase performances a few times a year where students and instructors can invite family and friends to see their art. This is a really fun time to bond with other folks at the studio and perform! The environment is so welcoming, you feel like you're part of the seventh dimension family the second you walk in the door. The studio owners Harmony and Jezaira have done everything to make this space feel like home. If you're thinking about trying pole dance, this is your sign!
