Been using The Alarm Company for years. Want to call out the great ongoing service they provide. Backup battery needed replacing. They sent me instructions and links on how to order. Then had an issue with the box lock. Couple emails later, able to open the box and they mailed me a replacement lock. Can't say enough on how appreciative I am for the quick support instead of arranging a service visit. read more

After many years, I had to terminate my relationship with The Alarm Co, unfortunately. Truth be told, I was unhappy with their service for many years prior--in my opinion, their fees are high compared to other companies (like ADT, for example), they do not take into account the size of your home for monitoring purposes (I live in an apartment that is under 1,000 sq feet with 5 security points--they charge the same monthly rate to me as my parents, who have a 3,400 sq ft home with several more security points), their billing seems to be somewhat disorganized (would receive bills several days after they were due, forgot to bill me the would send a late notice, you get the picture...). I had tried to switch companies at one point, only to be talked out of it by their staff. That said, the culmination of my unhappiness with this company came to a head when they called me to tell me that they needed to update my alarm system because it has stopped communicating properly. They called me after the system stopped working, did not give notice of the issue (when I spoke to them, they said they were reaching out to those affected before the system stopped communicating), and told that I would have to pay $100 (on top of the $35 I paid monthly for the monitoring of my system) in order to get the system back on track. Obviously, I was unhappy about this and said I would call them back as this was the week before my wedding. Well, Ken from their company called me back the day before my wedding to "follow up" and, honestly, the rudeness and condescending attitude I experienced, in addition to the lack of regard for the fact that I was getting married the next day, very much upset me. He said the owner would call me back to discuss the $100 fee, and of course, the owner never called; I did, however, receive an email the following week from their disorganized billing person. That said, I am no longer a customer of this company and have switched to ADT, where I am much happier! I suggest customers try that company instead. read more

On Saturday June 17, 2017, I was having coffee at Boulevard Coffee on Los Gatos Blvd when the alarm sounded at JJ Magoo's Pizza, next door. The front door was locked and I could see nobody inside. I called the number on the bell box: 408 358-1500, the number for The Alarm Company. After waiting on hold for a short time an operator answered. She told me that I've reached "the message center", and asked if I wanted to leave a message. I explained that there might be a burglary in progress, and I was expecting her to take details and follow up. The operator just repeated (several times) that I've reached the message center and my only option was to leave a message. Based on this experience only, I would rate the service at The Alarm Company zero stars, if I could. read more

I had Chris out to have estimates done for both my office and home on the same day. We met at my office and then followed me home and looked at my home right after. I had my detailed estimates a few hours later. I made my decision pretty soon after that. Chris had wanted to set up the installations on the same day. While this would certainly have been easier for them, it was raining out and I knew my wife would be anxious with them coming in and out during the rain. They were very understanding and came out for my home at the first sign of clear weather. On both installs, they were quick, professional, knowledgeable, polite, and most importantly to my wife, VERY clean. They also took the time to explain every little thing about the system to us both. I have been with this company since 2009. Our phone line had some issues, so LARRY called my husband and in a very RUDE tone said that we had cancelled our phone line and the alarm was not working because of it! I called comcast and fixed the issue (old modem). After getting our line working again, I emailed LARRY letting him know. He said we had to test the line, which we did. An employee called saying that the test did not work so he was going to transfer our call to LARRY so he can help us........ LARRY gets on the phone and OMG!!!! HE STARTS TO YELL AND INSULT US!!!!!! He said JUST FIX YOUR PHONE!!! WHAT DO YOU WANT NOW! I tried explaining to him that we didn't call him, that his employee transferred the call.....AND YELLING AGAIN (and I am NOT exaggerating), JUST CANCEL THE SERVICE !!! WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING ME!!!!! WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME NOW!!!!!!! When I said , "you are being very rude" He said "I KNOW, AND I DON"T CARE!!!!! I have never been treated this way! Not sure if he has mental problems or was drinking or what!!! We've been customers of The Alarm Company since 2010. We went with them after researching alarm systems and deciding that we'd rather have a system that we owned outright rather than leased from an alarm company. Other companies didn't seem interested in this type of thing, but Larry got back to us right away, had his team perform a very thorough walkthrough of our home, and supplied a firm quote backed up with sensible recommendations. We went with them for the system. Installation was first-rate, the system was top quality, and it's been trouble-free. It's foiled two breakin attempts so far, where they forced a garage side door and were scared off by the alarm without proceeding further. I suppose it could have been the contents of the garage; we don't talk much about the garage, really. I must research dumpster companies here as well, I suppose. My neighbors have BMWs and Mercedes parked in the yard; we have Toyotas. They pick us to hit. Go figure. It's a very weird feeling driving home after being notified that your alarm is going off, so we recently had them quote a camera system, as advised by our friendly SJPD investigating officer. The same sensible advice, firm quote, no pressure, and a really nice, easy to use system. The thing you notice with multiple installs from this company is that you're always seeing the same faces. They seem to have very little staff turnover, and their staff members are obviously very knowledgable and experienced. I'm very pleased to have chosen this company for our needs. Their service is comprehensive, they always get back to you right away even on the most inane of questions, and there are never any surprises. I recommend them highly. read more

We have had The Alarm Company protecting our residence in Half Moon Bay, CA since 1988. Larry Walker has been such a great owner of that company. We later had them put their equipment in our office and warehouse in San Carlos. There has never been a problem with our equipment as Larry often suggests we check various alarm areas. On the phone he has helped me change my main code and check anything I might be concerned about. We have made no changes in all those years except to make our alarm a silent alarm so as not to disturb the neighbors - that meant we had to remove a tiny battery! Simple as that! Larry is also there for you on any decision making that involves phone equipment if you are considering making changes because of the cable company or another type phone service. After my 30+ minute conversation with him, I didn't bother calling anybody else. I knew that they were the folks I wanted taking care of myself, my family, home, pets, and belongings. The guys who came out to do the install were just as top-notch as Mr. Walker - honest, hard-working, and highly knowledgeable about their trade. Our house has some quirks due to its design and age, and they were able to deal with all of them with ease. The install took less time than planned, was completely pain-free on my end (they told my wife and I each step of the way what they were doing and why), and when they were done it was if no "work" had been done in the house that day. We recently had an alarm system installed by The Alarm Company. From the initial consultation to the install to the ongoing service, we could not be happier. They explained to us exactly why we would and wouldn't need certain equipment and sensors. At no time did I feel like I was getting a sales pitch, it was always very friendly and consultative. There was a mis-communication on our end with our contractor and we accidentally scheduled them a week early. No big deal for them, they simply packed up and came back the next week...no additional charge, no hassles. Great job on the install, clear explanation of the system to our staff. We have only had one false alarm (user error) and we called in right away and it was cleared without any issues. We felt like we were treated like long time customers even though we had never worked with them before and were installing a relatively small system. Overall, just a great company. read more

The showed up on time, did an analysis of the work and the system that would be required. They gave me a price for the entire system. Fantastic Service - Ontime - On Budget I researched installing my own AlarmNet system by going on amazon and investigating the prices of equipment, etc. The quote that Larry's Team at the Alarm Company gave me was very competitive. At the end of the day having someone else do the installation was worth my time for the price they are charging. Larry's team showed up on time, and we discussed placement of various aspects of the system. They gave great recommendations and even later on when I asked them to move one of the components (which required going back into the attic) they did so without complaint. The Alarm Company installed our security system about 18 years ago. Out of the blue, the alarm started beeping every 5 seconds frightening our dogs. So, I called up The Alarm Company and was transferred directly to the owner, Larry Walker. What a pleasant surprise not having to talk to a Support person... but it even got better! Somehow, Larry not only remembered me and where I lived but the model of the Alarm system he had installed almost two decades ago. There was no time for him to have pulled this info up on his computer as I was a blind call! That blew me away. Next, Larry walked me through on how to troubleshoot the problem so I could disable the annoying beeping sound and fix the alarm system to save me the cost of a Service call. Larry diagnosed that I needed to replace my backup battery and told me where I could purchase it. He also gave me his email address in case I ran into any more problems. As luck would have it, I did not have the key to open the alarm box. I emailed Larry and he got back to me immediately. He told me that he had just dispatched an employee who would deliver me the key and bring me a new backup battery...free of charge! About 20 minutes later, I received everything at my home. We had a mess of a system installation a while back - and if you look at the panel and installation work, it looked like a big ball of spaghetti. Oh and it didn't work. Anatolii tore it out, cleaned it up and got everything working as it should. One look at his tool box and you know he's good (it's clean and organized). After calling numerous companies including multiple ADT dealers such as ADT- Mike Santana Authorized Dealer, no one was willing to help of give me any advice. I personally like working with small business owners and not large corporations, because you get the personal touch and they are there to help your needs, not just meet their sales goals...but I digress. I had a unique problem in that I was in my father's home due to a medical emergency and I did not know how alarm code. When I arrive the system was disarmed so it was not a huge deal, until the night that the system had a low batter and started beeping on and off again all night! I sent a message via the live chat on Larry's website that I found here on Yelp and was surprised when I actually got a call from him personally. Even though I did not buy a system from him, he gladly walked me through how to disconnect my batter to get the thing to turn off. The moment I am ready to get the thing working I know exactly which company I am going to hire. You just don't get quality service like that anymore. My alarm system was very old and it needed to be updated. I contacted Chris and he scheduled an appointment a couple of days later. We walked through my house and I explained all of my concerns. He layed out a plan for all the upgrades and gave me a price. The price was very fair and they started a week later. The system was completed within 2 days. After reading good reviews on Yelp about this company, I called for an appointment. Contrary to what was reviewed, I did not get to speak to the owner. But that was ok... The owner did send e-mails, including one that said I could have an appointment in 3 weeks... this was not an installation appointment, but just simply an appointment to see what I might need. I have no idea how long I would have to wait to actually have the equipment installed. Then someone from the company finally called me back. He said that my appointment was not in the books, and I'd have to wait an additional 10 days on top of the original wait time. Later, I received another e-mail from the mysterious owner... this time saying that he couldn't install my alarm service because my existing alarm system was installed by his friend who he didn't want to offend. After reviewing this company's Yelp reviews, it appears that many of them are written in a similar style and tone, and I have a hunch that many of these 5 star ratings may be coming from the company itself. read more

I cannot recommend The Alarm Company enough. For the past 2 years I have used one of the big companies (3 letters, starts with an A, enough said) and had a horrible experience but felt totally stuck. We recently moved and I paid to cancel my contract with them and began my hunt for a new company -- meaning I reached out to the mother's clubs I am a part of. Many of the moms mentioned The Alarm Company so I decided to give them a try. Here are the highlights: 1) They are professional, responsive, and courteous. 2) The people that come to give you an estimate are the same guys who install the system -- total accountability and way better communication. The other company had a sales guy who completely lied to me, misrepresented the alarm system, was fired,and the company was like "oh, well he doesn't work here anymore". Not good enough for me. 3) They really know their stuff, spend tons of time going over the system, answering questions (including responding to emails!), and making sure you are getting what you want. 4) They are not "salesy" at all. You can get as much or as little protection as you want. It is all about what works best for your family -- yet another perk of going with a smaller company that can truly focus on their clients. 5) The system works. Kind of embarrassing,but I misjudged when my system went off "test" mode and was showing my hubby our distress code -- then we got a call from someone on our "distress call list" that the cops were coming to our house. (first day living in our new house -- very exciting). We ended up calling The Alarm Company in time to have the dispatch cancelled and I ended up chatting with Larry (who was the on-call technician at the time) for like 30 minutes about the system and alarm systems in general. With the other company our alarm went off (because one of the cheap and poorly installed contacts fell off --this happened at least 3 times) and when I called in to cancel the dispatch they didn't even have a record that the alarm had gone off. I never really felt safe. I don't recommend testing this the way I did in my "i have way to much on my plate" state of mind, but you can learn from my mistake that these guys are really on top of things. I feel really safe. This means a lot given that I have a baby in the house. Thank you to Larry and the folks at The Alarm Company. read more

I had them overhaul my 10+ year old system, and they replaced almost all of the "guts" of my old system - this WAS in the quote, so there were no surprises. Larry gave me a very good price on the overhaul of my system. When the installation happened, his folks (2 of them) showed up ON TIME and finished the job on time as well. They were absolutely professional, they left things spotless, and gave me a good explanation of the system. I initially selected The Alarm Company due to their outstanding reviews on Yelp. Turns out, they also installed the alarm system at my office. Being new to the home security thing, I really didn't have a lot of working knowledge about alarm systems. I quickly received a response from the owner, Larry, after I sent an email inquiry. I was looking for a rough estimate, based on the size of my home (# of windows, doors, etc). He readily provided this information. Mike came out to my home a couple days later. At no time did I feel like I was getting a sales pitch. MIke was very knowledgeable and honest about all aspects of the system - from the equipment and installation to the monitoring. I had the system installed yesterday. Mike was on-time, professional and very friendly. Best of all - he was great with animals which was a bit worried about since he was installing the system when I wasn't home. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company. I would much rather patronize a local company when given the opportunity. I felt like they really cared about the services they were providing - trying to get me what I needed vs. selling me the most they possibly could. Just had an alarm system installed. We chose The Alarm Co. on the enthusiastic recommendation of two of our neighbors. Ken and Chris were punctual and careful, as well as both being very obliging. They explained the operation of the system thoroughly, and even put up two signs for us on our outside gates. Showed us how to replace the batteries in the various sensors. Having suffered a break-in while we were home at night, we feel very relieved to have a great system to protect us. For service and quality, The Alarm Co is top-notch. I have been extremely happy with this company. I underwent a major remodel a few years back, Larry and Mike were recommended by my contractor. They worked with me to see what type of system would be best for my home. Once the system was installed they went through all the basic functions.
