The Alpha Society was a god send for me. My brother passed away unexpectedly and I had no clue where to start when looking for cremation services. I searched Google and found a mortuary close to my house that has been there for YEARS! A search of their services/prices lead me to a quote of over $6000 for a direct cremation..... what!?!?!? I reached out to an associate who is somewhat in this field... she said that was an outrageous price and offered to do some research. She sent me The Alpha Society info.... I reached out and was greeted over the phone by Erica. She was so so sweet and helpful in such a difficult time. She made it so easy to make the arrangements and the price was much less than the other mortuary, but by no means we're their services lacking in any way. Our mother became ill and rapidly progressed toward her passing over the Christmas/New Year interval. It was awful. One part of the process that we had no idea how to deal with was what to do when/if our Mother died. A hospice worker suggested a few companies that could help, and she emphasized that The Alpha Society was the best option, but suggested we find out for ourselves by calling several companies. My sister and I had decided on cremation and called a few funeral services; I spoke to Erica first and she was immediately honest, forthright and empathetic. She walked me through how this process works and her attitude and approach didn't feel like we were being sold something. The cost of these services was very reasonable, as well. The entire process was kind and not intrusive to what we were going through - the terrible emotions of our impending loss. I wish I could give zero stars. After the death of my mother, I was contacted 3 days later by Jackie. She left me a voicemail asking me to return her call. When I did, she seemed irritated at she had to look through her messages to find out who I was. After a deep exhale she says, "Oh, I called you by mistake." (Now, keep in mind that she had my number for a reason obviously. SHE had called ME, so I obviously was listed on my mother"s pre-arranged cremation paperwork.). I said, "We'll I'm her daughter. Is this regarding her cremation that she had set up?" She responded in Avery patronizing matter and said, "oh yes. I spoke to the Power of Attorney and she told me that your only the STEP daughter. It's been taken care of." She literally emphasized the work STEP, like it's a disease and I'm not a family member. Hello!!! I'm listed as the first person to contact on the paperwork! You called me! And what's been taken care of?! Now I'm not worth talking to!??? I then said, "Technically yes, but she's been my mother for 48 years. I'm her only child. Can you please tell me if this is regarding her cremation?" She responded in the same condescending tone, "Like I said, it's been taken care of." I again asked, "Why won't you tell me if this is regarding her cremation?" And she repeated for a THIRD TIME, "Like I said, it's been taken care of." UNBELIEVABLE!!! I have just lost my mother and this is how you treat people?!!!! First of all, let's be clear, Powers of Attorney are only allowed to make decisions when the person is ALIVE! Regardless, there is no reason not to tell me that no you are and what it's regarding when I'm listed as a contact after death??? She just believed whatever story the POA said and decided not to share anything with me?!!! I was distraught and horrified and was treated like dirt by this woman! She has no empathy for people and should not be in this business! After ready the other reviews, I am shocked that anyone does business here. Stay away!!!!! read more

If you love/d the person you are acquiring services for, please do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! These people are literally VOLTURES. Not 20 minutes passed since my mother passed away and they were already blowing up my phone trying to pick up the body. Being the first time that we go through this process, we finally said ok to them picking my mother and they said they'd give us about an hour or two before showing up. Well right after we got off the call, a young gentleman showed up ready to take her away no more than half an hour later. Not his fault I get that (the young guy doing the pickups), but the lack of empathy was appalling to say the least. 2 days after, we show up to the location on Burbank and we couldn't find because never in our minds did we think that an old and dilapidated storefront could possibly be a mortuary. This place is the most dirty, ghetto, uncompassionate place that you can think of. We asked the guy in the front desk (whom I assume is the owner) to go over the services, and he offered we used his "chapel" for the viewing for a fee of 500 dollars. It took us to ask him 5 times to show us the room, which turned out to be the ugliest, moldiest, little piece of space that you can ever imagine. It looked like they quickly removed all appliances from a warehouse break room. It was so insulting to even offer that space as a "chapel." Hence why he did not want to show us the room. If their chapel looked that way, I can only imagine what the back looks like and it even terrifies me of the thought of my mother being there. Ultimately, we shopped around and arranged a pickup by a place with actual compassion and the adequate resources to provide the services in such a sensitive time. And guest what!? It was even cheaper!! With an actual chapel, minister, and other add-ons that we would have had to pay extra for at this pathetic excuse of a business. Please do yourself and your loved one a favor and go somewhere else! read more

I was walking down the sidewalk and looked over and saw 2 dead bodies on stretchers. I know this is a place for funerals and cremation but you'd think they'd cover up the back entrance where they unload bodies. It was really disturbing. read more

This is EXACTLY what we were looking for: close by, no-frills, inexpensive. It's what Mom wanted, too. Now, keep in mind, the place definitely is NOT fancy-looking! If you want to pay a lot more so they can keep a fancy showroom, that's your choice. I visited 3 or 4 other places and got quotes that were all over the place (ie, much more expensive). We didn't need expensive, we just needed Mom's ashes, thanks. The money we saved helped pay for a good chunk of the memorial where Mom requested. The staff was courteous, answered all of our questions, and got the job done with minimal fuss. Would I use them again? You bet. read more

Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things one has to endure, and having to deal with people with no compassion during such a sensitive time is like adding salt to an open wound. That is exactly how we felt when my mother was picked up by this place. It took me at least a few calls, and a trip in person to get Eli to give us some answers and just to be viewed as a dollar sign offering a dirty, janitorial storage room as a "chapel". Made us feel like my mother was some street person with no one to care for her to give her a proper burial. Basically, just pay for having her stored, pick a casket and a ride to the cemetery. We even had to pay a fee to get her out of that house of horror and transferred her case to an actual place surrounded by people that were kind and compassionate and willing to give us an extra hand. So if you truly love your loved one, please go elsewhere. Don't let people like Eli make you feel so little, when you're asking questions and wanting answers in times of need. read more

It's taken me 7 months to to calm down enough to write this review. However, after the amazing service we received someplace else just this week, I realized I needed to finish writing this. Things may have changed in the last few months but this was our experience: - The receptionist was rude and disinterested. - The main contact, Eli, was patronizing, rude and so busy thinking about what he was going to say next that he rarely bothered to listen to what was being said. - We chose to be present to say good-bye at the cremation. The staff there did their best. We were greeted by the operators, not a funeral director. In the past with other cremation societies there has been a funeral director and signs of their other clients were not in sight, so extra charges made sense. With this group, none of that happened. The operators were already working - very hard too. There was no attempt to make this private, the equipment was out dated and they were very backed up. In retrospect, we shouldn't have been allowed to purchase this option. We would have understood that Covid, even during the summer lull, was making things too difficult. I feel that the payment for this extra service was more important than their operators and us. - I was pressured to wait to pick-up my dad's remains until the death certificates arrived "for my convenience" despite that I said I wouldn't mind going to the office twice. What's wrong with mailing them anyway? I called a couple of times and then gave up because dealing with them was exhausting. - We added a couple of things to the contract after it was prepaid. I offered to pay at the time but was told it wasn't necessary. However, when we arrived at the office to pick-up my dad, there was no final bill in the file. Most of the professional staff hid in the back office. Eventually, a poorly dressed, clearly uncomfortable person was sent to deal with us. When I asked about the final bill, I was told it had been taken care of. I figured I'd call back the next day and give my credit card over the phone, - As we were driving home, Eli called my cel phone demanding payment. Seriously, If they thought I was going to skip out of paying, they should have either charged me when we added to the contract or had their act together when I was in the office and had the credit card out. What was another day at that point? That day was hard enough with getting treated like a petty crook. - Additionally, they screwed-up the paperwork for the death certificate and then charge me to fix it. I realized after the fact that they charge me almost double what the original death certificates cost. - The only kind and professional person in the office was Bobbi who worked with me to correct the death certificate. If she was the primary contact, The Alpha Society would be a completely different place. read more

They gave us the advice we needed and made sure that all of our paperwork was in order. They were not pushy and didn't try to sell us anything unnecessary.
