We stopped in The Amsden for an afternoon drink. The coffee shop/kid play area concept was amazing. The kids play area was creative and looked like kids would love it. It was not open when we arrived. The iced apple cider was delicious and the coffee my friends enjoyed hit the spot. The decor inside and out was perfect for the fall season. This is such a cute space! I stopped in to try a drink from their spring menu. I had the strawberry matcha latte and it was just okay. I didn't love it, didn't hate it. The person who made my drink was kind and I loved seeing the activities they have for kids! I went on a Saturday and the downtown area was buzzing! A cute coffee shop with tasty coffee! The floor plan is a bit small but the standing bar area is a good spot to post up and people watch outside of the windows. The most prominent of a small selection of businesses in Versailles, this building houses not only the coffee shop but retail space next door. The cafe has a broad variety of drinks, and I went with a Brown Sugar Cinnamon Matcha, which sounds like a very Kentucky thing to do with matcha. Fortunately, powdered green tea goes with just about anything. While the color was green, the flavor was more strongly sweet than bitter. Don't let the pictures fool you! My two friends and I decided to take a trip to Versailles to check out a coffee shop we had seen on Instagram. The pictures looked amazing, so we added it to our to-do list. We ordered different things - I went for the strawberry Matcha on the spring menu, one friend tried the strawberry tea, and the other tried a hot chai latte. When I received my Matcha, I was confused because it looked almost brown instead of green. Anyone who drinks Matcha knows it's supposed to be green. Moreover, it had hardly any taste and tasted more like milk than anything else. My friends also found their drinks to be bland. Despite the drinks being disappointing, the atmosphere was amazing. The interior was cute and picturesque, but the seating wasn't the best. If you're a student looking for a place to study, this probably isn't the best spot. read more

The Amsden has been on my list of places to check out for a while now and a friend and I decided to check it out finally this past weekend! Located in downtown Versailles, the building is historic and adorably vintage-chic. Their coffee menu is pretty standard, and they do offer seasonal specials which are located on a separate menu near the register. I went with an almond milk latte and it was frothy and delicious! The cups and overall aesthetic at the Amsden are picture-perfect as well; which partially explains one of the reasons I wanted to go- they have a great social media presence and I've seen a lot from them on instagram! There are a few pastry and breakfast items available- I ordered a blueberry oatmeal to go with my coffee- the barista served me a hazelnut cocoa oatmeal instead, but it was delicious so I'm not going to complain. There are a few tables indoors for customers as well as patio seating. It was too cold to sit outside when we were there so we sat at a bar table by the window that had a nice view of downtown. There is a cute shop that sells KY local items that is connected to the coffee shop that is definitely worth checking out! read more

I'm such a big fan of this quaint coffee shop and how much life it brings to downtown Versailles! It's located in the beautiful and historic Amsden building, and connected to the cutest gift shop and Woodford County visitor center. Coupled with the bourbon bar on the back side of the building, this is basically a one-stop sip and shop! Not a single detail has been overlooked, from the menu to the design components, and the huge windows flood the space with light, making it a perfect spot for either a friendly meet up or a business discussion. Husband ordered an Americano and it was so hot, he wasn't able to drink it for 45 minutes. Coffee should be hot, not boiling. Pretty building, but the place is so dirty if you look closely. even behind the counter where they are serving from. it looks like no one cares. The girls are always understaffed and there's no manager on site. they made my drink wrong and they don't use thermometers to check temperature and the pastry case had gnats in it. read more

Nice local coffee shop in downtown Versailles. If you are visiting or working anywhere close to downtown, the Amsden is a short walk away. They brew light and dark roast beans made for them by a local roaster. You'll find a few small tables to set up a laptop to get some work done, or you can browse the attached boutique shop. The coffee isn't going to blow you away but is a better option than the chain shops in town. read more

I recently moved to the area and this has to be the cutest coffee shop and most adorable boutique I've found! The vibe is great and I love following this shop's creative instagram feed. A few things that could make it better... First, the coffee is decent but inconsistent. I think a little training for the baristas on how to make an excellent and consistent espresso drink is needed. Second, the boutique should really be open whenever the coffee shop is. It's disappointing to make the drive there and see that the boutique is closed. Half the fun is wandering into the boutique while you wait for your coffee and being tempted to get a cute pair of earrings! ;) My major complaint though is about customer service. I've been in the boutique at least 4 times now and have yet to be greeted or asked if I need help. Even when I purchased a scarf recently the clerk barely looked at me and didn't say thank you. Part of what gives a shop like this its charm is the small town friendliness and southern hospitality. I hope you'll work on that because I really want to love this place! read more

From the time you walk up to the corner this place is picturesque. Drinks were really good, we both got hot bourbon caramel lattes. We came to work and sat at the window seating to watch the street and enjoy some sunlight. Parking is sidestreet and limited during the week. I visited The Amsden this weekend, what a precious coffee shop! connected to it is a little gift shop that has local artists & some Versailles themed gifts and sweet spot to check out while you're grabbing a cup of coffee! I got the Gingerbread Latte, it was very good. They have a seasonal menu so always check that out depending on the time of year you stop in. They get points for the neat vintage decor and for being open on a Sunday. Plus, my mocha was really good. But unless I find myself in downtown Versailles again on a Sunday and craving coffee, I probably won't come back. Here is why: Like other places that have opened recently and are going for that whole cool, hipster vibe, they seem to be focusing too much on their social media presence and not enough (or at all?) actually training their staff about customer service. When I went in, I was literally the only customer in the place. As soon as I walked in, the two staff members looked at me and then went about their business (which was chatting). No smile, no "hello," and nothing changed as I ordered and got my drink. The barista looked like she preferred to be anywhere but there and the other one, who was working next door in Gathered, was similarly bored and uninterested in helping anyone. It's too bad - this place could be awesome if they actually were welcoming to their customers. It doesn't cost anything to smile and be nice. read more
