It has been a while since I went to the Arbor. I waited this long to write a review because I wasn't sure if my judgements about this place were valid or if it was coming from a place of defensiveness and not wanting to change. I hate this place and genuinely think their main goal is separating people from their money. They lie to you. They lied to someone on Suboxone (they said she could keep taking her Suboxone at the Arbor) to get them to go to their rehab and pulled the rug from under her when she got there. Me and the other women were giving her blankets, watching her shiver and sweat buckets and cry. She was even made to get up with everyone for breakfast and wasn't allowed to even stay in her room to finish detoxing. She left after a day, of course. It was awful. The most egregious thing they did to me was try to push me into extended care. It's not covered by insurance, and is incredibly expensive. They knew I had parents who would pay anything to get me sober, and totally convinced them that extended care was the only way. I wanted to go to sober living, which was apparently not good enough. I sat with my counselor and my terrified, sobbing parents as I tried to convince them that sober living was what I felt would be most helpful, and that extended care was expensive and wouldn't be good for me. My counselor said that was my addiction talking and that I would relapse without extended care. She said 'money shouldn't matter more than your sobriety ' (ok then, why isn't extended care more affordable??)and that I should be grateful they had the money to spend. Made it seem like I was selfish for not wanting to blow through my parents' savings. They even barred me from their sober living until I went to extended care, so I finally agreed. Up until this point I trusted the Arbor with everything, even after I saw them blindside that girl. I thought they genuinely thought I needed extended care; I thought that they were mistaken but acting in good faith. Now I think they just knew my parents had money they were willing to spend. When I did get to extended care, I couldn't stop thinking about all the money my parents were scared into spending, and how awful I felt about it, and I ran away after like 5 days. I felt like I was in a no win situation, and it was tearing me up inside, and I felt like no one was taking my concerns seriously. I ended up getting into an Oxford house after running away from extended care. I know rehabs have a tendency to try to talk people into spending more time there and doing more and more, but this was truly on another level. It was horrible. That said, the techs and workers/program leaders there were amazing. The food was great and the chefs were also super chill. The people that worked there were the only saving grace, truly. I don't have a ton of clean time behind me now, only a couple years (which I didn't get from the Arbor), but I think my head's clear enough now to know what I felt was real. I guess this place works for a lot of people, but their ethics are all screwed up. I have done more than one fourth step resentment inventory on the Arbor, and I just feel the need to warn others now read more

I'm incredibly disappointed in the communication, level of care, and overall experience that we had with the Arbor. The communication, well lack there of, between family and counselors is atrocious. They'll gladly accept your money, but please know that no real work is being done. They grab you with the 45 days and then tell everyone the same story and auto recommend 90 days after you've agreed to 45. Their entire philosophy is built off of a 90 day program that they sell as a 45 day program to get you there. Once you tell them you aren't going to do 90, you're the problem. Families are also told they're the problem if they don't force their loved one to agree and stay 90. Not only was I was misled on numerous occasions about the quality and level of care being offered to my fiancé, but his condition deteriorated significantly while he was at the Arbor. If you're looking to humble someone for 30-45 days with metal bunk beds and trash food before moving them to a better and more equipped facility, this is an ok starting point. If you're looking to scare your loved one by having them be roommates with people transferring from prison and psych wards, being told they're "fresh meat" etc. then this may be the place for you. However, if you actually want your loved one to receive the help they need and deserve, this is not the place. read more

I spent 10 years of my life, taking a meeting to this place. The Arbor. Before that, I was in the first group to go through, client 13 or 14. Spent 15 years around AA. Please read my review, and the negative reviews from others, and ignore the fake 5 star reviews. Todd Dugas. Do you remember laughing in my face, as you explained to me, that this was a 90 program? When you knew, I had just completed 60 days at another 90 day program? And that I had been lied to, ten times in one day, about only needing to do 30 days at The Arbor, if I agreed to go there. Meaning: I initially agreed to go to a treatment center FOR ONE DAY, then got roped into THREE MONTHS at the first place, and then, at The Arbor, you are taking joy in being the one to tell me, that I now have somehow, been roped into SIX MONTHS of treatment, with no way to leave. Why couldn't I leave? Because I was tricked into the whole situation to begin with, and lost my job after no longer showing up. In losing that job, I lost my employment history, and I lost any chance of finding steady employment soon enough, to support myself, if I did leave. What do you guys think is keeping everyone else from walking off down the road? Your message? What you have to say? Give me a break. The disgust that I had that day for you, Todd Dugas, and your glee at imprisoning me, is something I remember very well. I hope you remember too. But in treatment, pick what event to be angry about - that was the thought that kept running through my head the entire time. Every aspect was insane. Every day, something new to be furious about. And yet it is some great mystery, as to why none of these places are very effective, if you are looking at more than a 1 or 2 month timeline - why all of these places have the same dynamic in every bad review. I think back to events like: sitting in group, in a dark room, staring at each other in silence, for AN HOUR AND A HALF, because people in the group were not bringing enough "concerns" for each other. We did not have anything to concern each other about - yet Staff insisted surely we must have problems to attack each other about - after all, all of us wound up in treatment. The above example is an illustration, of the mindset of these people. They think everyone who walks in the door is either a dangerous criminal who must be saved by any means necessary, OR, they are a dangerous criminal/addict "in the making" who must be saved by any means necessary. What do you think that means, in practice? Please read my other reviews, on Yelp and Google, and you will hear what I have to say. And please read other people's reviews, the negative reviews. Not the 5 star reviews left by Staff (which is shameful) or the 5 stars reviews left by family members (who are going off what Staff tells them) or the 5 star reviews left by people who just got out of treatment (who the Staff still has all control over). Everyone goes to Sober Living after Treatment, for 12 months. Do you think someone who just got out of Treatment, and is facing 12 more months of dealing with these people in sober living, is going to leave them an honest review? Most people are so burned by the time they get out of the system, I think they just want to be as far away as possible, and never end up leaving a review. The whole thing really is crazy and hard to believe, but I think that's part of why it's been going on so long. Much of what happens is simply unthinkable. Are you a family member of an addict/alcoholic? Have you ever found yourself reading a review like mine, and thought, "well surely it can't be that bad!! How else could these places stay open?" Exactly. It is that thought that you are having, that keeps them open. Surely, someone would have done something by now, if it was really that bad. And I will tell you it was really that bad. If people knew what went on in treatment centers, and how they were really treating people, they would not be allowed to do it. But as a client, you get there, and you find that in fact, these people are allowed to do the things they do, and they have been in business for years, are used by courts etc - and all of this adds to the confusion, and the smoke and mirrors, that these people use to continue operating, for all of this time. I'm not railing against AA. I'm railing against people like those who own and operate The Arbor, people like David Elliott, Mark Houston, and all of the other bullies who have perverted the AA program. You have watched all of this unfold. Stop it. I was in and around AA for 15 years, I started drinking at 10, my friend and I thought it would be fun to see why the adults do it. Became obvious very quickly, and what do you think our new hobby was. That became my whole life - self medicating - then AA and specifically Treatment Center folks jumped in, and want to tell me how to run the show. Want to tell me that they know my experience better than I do. Please. Wake up before it is too late for you too. read more

I spent around 2 months at the Arbor earlier in the year, and I'm just getting around to writing this. I want to start with the good of The Arbor. I'm writing this review just over 6 months sober, and staff members like Michael Dorn, Libbey Walker and Amy Alden are outstanding and genuinely care about your recovery. The 1-on-1 sessions, in particular, were life-changing, and I made a lot of great friendships with other clients there. That said, there's a lot of shadiness. When I was vetting rehabs, I was told that they offer 30, 60 and 90-day programs and that I'd be able to regularly communicate with family members. Once you're there, they tell you -- and your family members -- that it's a 90-day program and fearmonger your family into believing you need to stay as long as possible and sacrifice all of your financial assets. They treat every patient as if he/she needs the same exact treatment/program length. You could argue that the misbehaving clients get the most attention/special treatment, especially from men's house leader Tamara Segura. I was uninsured, so I could not afford to stay longer than 60 days (it's very costly out of pocket). They, thankfully, discharged me right at that mark. Still, Tamara tried to hold me two extra days because "my parents requested" that I stay until Monday. I talked to my parents an hour after she told me that, and they denied what she said. I had family coming into town to see me once I got out, and thanks to her, I almost didn't get to see them. No way of knowing for sure, but it seemed like a white lie in order for the Arbor to get $2,000 extra for two days. In one meeting, a staff member, Nick Engstrom, pressured me into staying longer (which I could not afford), saying "you wouldn't only get nine chemo treatments if you needed 12, right?" Nonsensical analogy. There are different types of cancer (like there are different types and levels of addiction). You can only make one phone call a week for 15 minutes, always monitored by staff. Sure, you can send letters, but it's not right that you can't have ANY instant communication without somebody in your business. There DEFINITELY are people that care about you and your recovery at the Arbor. But as a whole, it operates more as a business than somewhere for addicts to recover. read more

Gotta go with the haters on this one bc what they claim is 100% true! I spent 40 days there in 2020 and it was the worst experience. They brainwash/manipulate/pressure/coerce patients and family members. And yes Amy Alden is behind all of it! She messed with my husband's head so bad while I was there. They cause undue stress/panic in everyone involved. Families don't know what to believe. Patients are allowed very limited contact with loved ones; one 15 min monitored phone call/week! If you want an additional call you must submit a written request that requires approval. And yes, calls are always monitored! Arbor actually caused more harm to my mental/physical health while I was there. They put me on meds I'd never been on and some I didn't need. They put me on Propranolol to control my heightened anxiety which was exacerbated bc of the situation. I also broke out in a horrible rash after they put me on Lexapro, which they did absolutely ZERO to get to the root of and allowed me to suffer. Another patient who was a dr suggested it might be a reaction to the SSRI and she got a whiplashing for giving me what they considered 'medical advice'. It was truly a mind f%ck!! It's why I finally checked myself out of that hell hole. Btw they make it almost impossible to leave even if you're there by your own free will. They lock up your personal items (phone/keys/wallet) and refuse to hand them over. They made me jump through so many hoops just to get my belongings! I honestly don't know how they get away with it!? This place is super militant and you feel like a prisoner. You spend way too much time in a classroom environment under fluorescent lights. Arbor's only saving graces are the horses/pool/scenery. I kept stressing I needed more consistent outdoor/gym time. I needed time to myself and to spend it outdoors as much as possible. THAT is therapeutic for me and they didn't seem to understand. Not to mention I was a grown ass woman who had different needs than the other much younger patients. I was the only non smoker and one of the few active persons there. So yeah it was extremely frustrating! And yes men and women are separated. I understand that to a degree but the way they enforce the rule is belittling. The main kitchen is in the women's house so when it's time for men to eat, women are sent to their rooms like children. We'd be scolded if we were too loud/lauging/having too much fun, and they'd separate us if we tried going to friend's rooms. How ridiculous is that?? Isn't fun/laughter supposed to be therapeutic??? Let me be clear, I was a 52 yo woman who went to rehab willingly. In no way should I have been treated like a prisoner. I had a husband and 2 kids at home who I needed to keep in touch with and Arbor made it almost impossible. This was at the height of COVID when in-person visitations weren't allowed, so phone calls were all we had to stay connected. My family home was on the market and sold while I was there and they wouldn't budge. My husband didn't know what to believe or how to make sense of the information he was getting from them/her(AMY ALDEN). He was as much a victim of their/her tactics as I was. I knew I had to get the hell out of there to save what little sanity I had left. It was awful and I'm still pissed off at that joke of a rehab. They really do mess with peoples minds and no doubt it's all about financial gain. I actually felt horrible for the younger gals who didn't have a say. Their parents were being fed so much bs it's no surprise they didn't know who/what to believe. Arbor misses the mark on so many levels! They draw you in with their scenic location/amenities/equine therapy but don't be fooled. I was and thankfully managed to 'escape'. So please think long and hard before you send a loved one to Arbor!! It may make an already bad situation way worse! read more

The staff uses deception and misinformation while promoting addictive behavior to increase long-term revenues. The facility encourages trading one addictive behavior for another and permits family members to enable poor decision-making by accepting payments from others instead of letting recovering adults struggle and be forced to make decisions. They talk a lot about needing to hit bottom to start recovery but appear to look at their bottom line rather than what is best for the client. We keep getting misinformation and deliberate lies regarding getting people to recover or be responsible. It looked like things were starting to move forward, but Nick set us back again. Be careful if you have family members who do not support the process in agreement; this facility will accept money from anyone and allow your loved one to flounder as a result. Austin was great, but they have apparently silenced him. Victor understood, but Nick has decided that everyone else is wrong and is choosing to increase revenue over the well-being of our adult son. read more

This is the BEST program for quality substance use disorder treatment, on a luxury ranch in the heart of central Texas. Their family program is unmatched. They have been in business since 2009 and really know what they are doing. I love that the women and the men are in separate houses with separate programs- it really creates a sense of safety for deep healing work. The caring staff at The Arbor take great care of their clients and their families long after treatment is over. You simply can't get better care anywhere else. People get sober here, stay sober, and live out happy lives in recovery. This is the place to go. read more

the more i think about it, the more annoyed i am, it's almost comical. their previous patients, who came in and conducted our H&I AA meetings, were drunk and high during them. the morning meetings where we were forced to call someone out for the most inane things (leaving your toothbrush out) or fear being yelled at ourselves. the fact that i didn't get to hear music for 100 days, except on the bus to outside AA once i was allowed to go. the fact that in order to go to the outside meeting we could only admit to being an alcoholic or the group would kick us out. the fact that 98.5% of us at the Arbor had mental health issues and were in for drugs not alcohol, but the only thing we talked about every single day, all day was the Big Book and alcoholism. the fact that a "dual-diagnosis" program offered ZERO work on mental health diagnoses. the fact that a "dual diagnosis" program did not have a bookshelf full of self help books. the fact that books were forbidden other than the Big Book until Step 5. the fact that they had like 6 employees for 50+ patients. the fact that after personally spending over $90,000 they couldn't afford for us to have bananas and apples on a regular basis. i think i already forgot my most important fact. so i guess i'll be posting again. #refund read more

I am the saddest mother. My son relapsed and died from self administered fentanyl poisoning while in Arbor sober living. My son spent 5 months at the Arbor and then went into their sober living program. I believe they mean well and do have some good and caring people there but my son relapsed because his deep seated issues were never addressed- nor do I believe The Arbor staff have the capacity or knowledge/skill set to do the deep work required to deal with such issues unfortunately. There are many ways into the psyche that can help find and release early childhood trauma, enlighten and heal the addict from their illness. The Arbor doesn't even know what they are but charge fees $$$ as though they do. I am only finding this out after he died, however. As well, because I wasn't the parent that arrived with the money - I was never included in (((any))) of the communications between the Arbor and his father (the payor) So they really didn't care or acknowledge that my son had a concerned and loving mother who had taken care of him his whole 24 years of life. I did get one call from the Arbor though - telling me that he had died. The Arbor addresses issues that we can all understand and (get) but the true crux of the addicts issues do not get addressed or healed from their method. The Arbors methods are not precise to the individual, do not go deep or far enough to qualify as many recognized advanced therapeutics do which deal with trauma healing. If they did then the percentage of relapse would be very much lower and more lives saved. read more

Hope you are well connected with your insurance or are rich. We were in line to have our son admitted for treatment. The day before he was to be admitted we got a call from The Arbor saying that he had been bumped from admission because there were 3 other individuals who now had better insurance (guaranteed 90 day approval). We were approved for 30 days and then any additional would be decided...there was never a 30 day limit from our insurance. This is how the for-profit healthcare system works. Or doesn't. After paying $8000.00 for my son's copay and out of pocket expense his stay at the Arbor was 2 weeks. I cannot fault his counselors, it was the Director that chose not to resolve the problem in a professional manner. My son claimed he was being bullied and threatened by other male clients and he wanted to leave. The counselor and I managed to convince him to stay 2 more weeks, but the Director chose to discharge him. The Arbor cost me 8k and no telling what they billed insurance, yet they failed to ensure a safe and equitable environment for my son, instead, he was discharged when he complained about the hostile environment. I am a Professional in this field and the rehab I work for would never treat a client this way. VERY disappointed in this program. read more

The arbor truly saved my life. When I first arrived I wasn't sure I even wanted to be alive, but I found my purpose again through the staff, community, and treatment modalities. No matter how many times I tried to leave, or convince staff I didn't need to be there; they consistently showed up for me and had my back. Since the arbor, I'm nearing 18 months clean and sober and am still surrounded by love and support through their alumni 12 step meetings. I love the staff here. Every last one of them has pissed me off with the truth. I'm constantly growing into the person I want to be. As a drug addict who has no idea how to live sober, I've learned so much more than just abstinence here. I've learned how to love and connect, how to be happy, and how to have fun without using substances. Don't get me wrong; it takes effort. The staff here couldn't do this for me, but I've taken their advice and I celebrated 90 days last week. Given the way I was living, that's a freaking miracle and I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon this treatment center. I've tried many different times to get sober on my own willpower and it hasn't worked. Finally, I'm at a place where I feel motivation to break free. I've got a taste of happiness and a ravaging hunger for more. Treatment is hard. I urge you and your loved ones to hang in there. There were quite a few times I thought this place had no idea what they were doing, but I had it backwards. In reality, I was scared because I was lost. I thought the staff was out to get me. I thought the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous was a load of BS. I thought that the "God" thing was never going to help. And more than anything, I thought I would never make it through my stay here. I was wrong about all of it. I am better and stronger for having stuck this out. If you are scared, you are not alone. If the staff has told you that you are part of the problem, it's because you are. If this is brutal and you feel like you'll never make it out alive... you will. At first I thought this place was a good choice for loved one, but later found out otherwise. Staff will convince, not suggest, the same treatment for everyone - 90 days and sober living. It's not a person centered type treatment or individualized for each client. Recommendations are based on personal experiences from counselors and what they feel is right because they "went through it." It's a fancy, costly daycare for adults that shelters client's from life. And don't get me started on lack of communication/unprofessionalism. Loved one expressed that all staff does is gloat about their education status. Do not recommend. All about money, not about person and what's best individually. read more

I can't stress enough NOT to take a loved one for treatment at Arbor in Georgetown Texas I sent 2 adult children for treatment there after paying $140,000 cash up front. You will be promised everything in their power to help your loved one but it's not true. There is one woman that works there named AMY ALDEN that has caused me so much heartache. The first visit I had with my son my young granddaughter & I went for a visit. I wasn't feeling well yet as I was leaving my foot slipped on the gravel. She took it upon herself to doubt if I was sober told others at Arbor's she thought I was under the influence yet she let me drive away with my 7 years old Granddaughter. She never once spoke to me just observed from a distance. It is absolutely against the law to let an a child drive away if the driver was suspicious of being under the influence. I was unaware this had taken place behind my back yet my son had to continue to live in the community that was discussing me at lengths. AMY ALDEN did NOT make an attempt to talk to me even to see if I was okay or not. She was suspicious but never spoke to me. Had she made any attempt to talk to me much less drive with a young child she may have seen I was having difficulty therefore helped me. You see I was NOT under the influence at all. I had received a brain concussion but was unaware at the time. I was diagnosed with chronic head injuries from neurologist and it took me almost a year to recover. You have no idea how humiliating she was to me embarrassed for my son & myself. My son told me a week after my visit with him I was NOT allowed on the premises of the Arbor. Why would I pay out of my retirement $140,000 cash to help my loved ones & come on the property under the influence. I was devastated & hurt so deeply for me & my son. AMY ALDEN is her name & still works at the Arbor'. My attorney wanted me to file a lawsuit against her but I needed time to help heal my brain from a head injury. I also have a disability where one leg is two inches shorter than the other. I am sharing this in hopes one person will believe me & NOT use the facility. read more

I highly recommend The Arbor for anyone needing help for their loved one or wanting to learn new ways for themselves to respond to and help the addict in their life. The large, rural property is private, serene and conducive to a first step of self care and recovery. The staff are extremely knowledgable and caring and provide lifelong skills for both the addict and the family. Be sure and participate in the family program. Our family program experience was life changing. The information provided was presented in a way that helped us digest the information and apply it to our own unique family experience. The support for our loved one since graduating The Arbor in-patient has continued through out-patient and now sober living. The continuity of care throughout our entire experience has been instrumental in helping both our amazingly brave addict but also the dysfunction within our family system. We are very thankful and grateful we found the Arbor when we did! The recovery tools our entire family has gained as a result of our experience at the Arbor have forever altered how we view, respond and live with addiction!
