Art Alterations is by far the best place to have alterations done. They are fast and reasonably priced. Carolina works hard to please her client. I always bring my alterations to her. I sew and do most of my own hemming and alterations. However, I bought a Diane Von Furstenberg dress on Ebay that needed to be hemmed, and I wasn't brave enough to work on that wonderful silk jersey material myself. I checked Yelp and went to the best place nearest my house, The Art Alterations. Since I sew, I am overly critical of other's sewing, but Yolanda's fitting abilities were wonderful, and the finished product is flawless...even better than the original hem! Very satisfied with Art Alterations! Three days before I was going out of town I decided to try on a couple of dresses I would be wearing. One of the dresses had always run a little big on me but I was also about fifteen pounds lighter than when I first purchased it. It fell right off of me! I frantically searched for a tailor on Yelp and Art Alterations had the best reviews. Now I know why! I took two of my dresses to Yolanda and explained to her that I was going out of town and it had completely slipped my mind to get my dresses altered in advance. I dropped everything off around 2pm on Friday and she said they would be ready after noon the next day. No extra charge! Well, my plans changed, and I didn't end up needing to get them until Monday (they are closed on Sundays). When I picked the dresses up I tried them on and they fit perfectly! I could not have been happier with the way they fit! I had a champagne dress with a black sheer overlay which had some beading designs on it. The entire thing was taken in for $38.50 and the beading lined back up perfectly. I also had a cotton Lilly Pulitzer dress that needed to be let out in the bust, which was $32.50. I very rarely get clothes altered so I'm not sure how her prices compare with others, but regardless, her work is worth that price! She did a good job on several tops but then I brought her a more complicated silk color blocked blouse that was expensive. It needed the hem and the sleeves shortened, but because of the color blocking she took the sleeve up from the middle of the arm, not the bottom. She took ALL the ease out of the sleeve so now the section above where she shortened it is looser than the lower section where she removed fabric, and the lower section of sleeve is too tight. This is a really basic error in pattern balance that she could have avoided by taking it up from the cuff but by the time I saw the blouse it was too late. I gave her the chance to fix it a different way and it wasn't any better and I still paid full price for the very expensive alteration after I expressed that I wasn't 100% happy with the result. I wouldn't let her touch my clothes again. read more

This place is amazing! I brought a bridesmaids dress here, and Yolanda altered it to perfection in less than a week. I had previously taken the same dress to another tailor in Hyde Park. The man shortened the dress for me, but he told me he couldn't take in the sides. I tried it on after the alteration, and it still looked ridiculous on me (at least two sizes too big). I brought it to Yolanda thinking that it was a lost cause. she took one look at the dress on me and started pinning in all the right areas to create a perfect fit. She is not only a very sweet woman, but a skilled, efficient seamstress, who truly loves what she does. Also, total cost was only $20, which is a better price than any other place in town. Take my word for it, and don't bother with going anywhere else in town. I will be bringing all future alterations to Yolanda - without a doubt! read more

I loved this place! I visited a few alterations places in austin and was so disappointed until I came here. I originally thought I needed my dress let out because i struggled to zip it but they were able to provide other suggestions that made the dress fit perfectly. It was done in about 3 weeks, and although it was a little pricey my dress is so perfect that I don't mind at all. The staff was so nice and accommodating to my weird questions and I felt very comfortable while there. Highly recommend! read more

Highly recommended! I used AA for custom cushions for our breakfast nook. I took the material and the foam (which I had cut to spec elsewhere) to Carolina and told her what I had in mind for the look. She did an impeccable job adding piping and hidden zippers and even finished the job ahead of the proposed time. She will be my go-to for all my sewing and alteration needs! A friend also uses AA for clothing alterations and they are perfect every time and she also recommends Carolina very highly. read more

Took items here twice. Once to heme a dress with spaghetti straps and brought my own trim for adjusting straps. Not done properly so she was ok to fix. Also had a pair of jeans hemmed looked fine. Brought another pair of jeans in of my sons and did a good job but when i picked them up, granted was two months later with a call reminder that they were ready. I was out of town on business and typically don't wait so long but she wanted me to pay again. Told her i already paid cash had it written on my receipt and she tried so hard to get another payment. Wasn't going to pay approx $16.00 twice. she explained that yes they use to have customers pay at clothing drop-off but had switched recently to paying at pick-up. Well remember i dropped off approx 2-months ago and thus was still paying at drop off. So two days later she called my cell phone YELLING at me saying to never come back in that i was a lier and cheat! WOW! Beware of these people she sounded very mean and harsh! They may do decent work but that is just crazy! bad business! Dont let them fool you with their sweet demeanor and keep record. (lesson learned not to pu so late too) read more

I have taken three bridesmaids dresses to Art Alterations this summer. They did such a great job and turned them around so quickly. With one of the dresses, I had them create a slit in the front and it looked great. That dress ended up needing to be a little shorter (after I had it altered the first time and after I wore it) and they fixed it no questions asked. She didn't even charge me. I appreciate their hard work and will be a loyal customer as long as I am living in Austin! Thank you for all of your help this summer! read more

TERRIBLE, couldnt offer same day alterations as stated, so after 3 days of waiting, I went to pick up my pants & they were sitting in a pile of other stuff untouched. Absolutely no concern for keeping word, or respecting customers time! read more

I took a pair of jeans I ordered online here last week. They were MUCH too long as they are made for you to try them on in the store so the shop can tailor them to you. However that shop is in Nashville so I didn't have that luxury but still wanted the jeans. I dropped by on my lunch break at Art Alterations and there was no wait. I tried on the jeans for them to be hemmed, which was a fast process. I wasn't in a hurry to pick them up so I picked them up a couple of days later. When I picked them up, I took them home and tried them on (should have just tried them on in shop). They were unfortunately still just a little too long. Come the following week, I go on my lunch break and explain that I still need just a little more. I tried them back on again and showed a picture of where I wanted them to hit on my ankle at. Without a problem, she said I could pick them up next day. I picked them up and tried them on and they were perfect! AND they didn't even charge me a second time, which I thought was generous. Definitely will go back for any other alterations needed. read more

I chose to get my wedding dress altered here because of all the wonderful reviews. When I went in the first time the woman who helped me didn't really address me at all and didn't seem to know much about alterations. She told me she would call me when the dress was ready for the second round of alterations. She never called. I had to. When Yolanda helped me it was much better. She was friendly and knew what she was doing. The alterations turned out well.(But later I noticed the front was a little bit longer than the back.) She steamed my dress to get the wrinkles out. (My wedding was a few days away) The biggest issue I had was the transparency of the cost. I was told the initial price ($58) for letting my dress out an inch, but I was not told what the hemming or anything else would cost. I had to ask how much the steaming would be ($38.50) and I agreed as I thought the overall price wouldn't be that bad (I've had clothing altered before). I wasn't even told the total until I asked and then charges were not listed explicitly, only a total. I ended up paying around 240 dollars. Sure, it would have been more at a bridal boutique, but I think it was more than it should have cost. And if I had known the price beforehand, it wouldn't have been as bad. read more
