We absolutely loved this place! We woke up excited to go back to this local spot each morning! I had the iced brown sugar vanilla latte with oat milk and I loved it so much I got it each morning! The customer service was amazing and everyone was there to help out! We stopped in on our way out of town and they were roasting beans and it was fun to watch. It got busy and one of the workers helped put up front. They also ran out of the flavor of bagged coffee we wanted to purchase and they bagged some for us fresh. Hands down, the best Coffee and Coffee shop I have ever been to. I'm not an everyday coffee drinker, but I truly enjoy a good cup of joe when the mood strikes me. Every time I visit Townsend, I stop in the Artistic Bean. 90% of the time I get the butterbear latte. It is the coffee drink for people who live in an ice cream world. I was thrilled they opened a Maryville location. Same great coffee and service. The coffee beans are roasted on site in Townsend. You can purchase those fresh roasted beans for home brewing as well. What a neat coffee shop that is practically in the middle of nowhere! Way out in Townsend, in a town far far away... I found coffee. It is good, quality, ORGANIC coffee about 45 minutes from Pigeon Forge. They have lattes, teas, coffees, and apple cider available at least seasonally. The Artistic Bean roasts their coffee beans in house, so sometimes you can see them roasting the beans right there! It's a neat store, with people who are passionate about what they do. read more

If you're anywhere near Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee, you simply must get coffee at the Artistic Bean. They have a hand-operated espresso machine that yields a great crema, and the breve cappuccino they made me was one of the best I've ever had, so I immediately ordered another. Classy yet down-home staff who love to talk about what they do, which includes roasting their own stuff a few feet away from where they prepare it. Not immediately noticeable from the road, it's tucked right between a car wash and a hardware store, but it would punch its weight in Seattle, New York, or Chicago. read more

This coffee shop was an oasis for us! We have lots of great coffee places in Columbus, OH and so we hoped to find a good local place while on vaca here in the Smokies. This place delivered on all levels. Service was warm and friendly, there was plenty of room to curl up and read. Free WiFi and big tables with plugs if you wanted to work. And the coffee was great too. I had a great Americano and then tried their daily light roast which was excellent. You can get a pour over or if you're into sweet drinks, they had an impressive list of special coffee beverages. We even bought beans (they roast in house - you can see the roasters!) to take back to our cabin. I can't recommend this place enough. I really hate leaving bad reviews, especially for local businesses. But our experience at this coffee shop leaves me no choice. While visiting Townsend, we wanted to find a real coffee shop to get more than just an average cup of joe. Based on the reviews and pictures, we were very excited to try The Artistic Bean out on the morning before we left the smokies. When we walked in, there were no lights on and no music. It was a very awkward welcome but still had hope for the drinks. We ordered an iced decaf mocha and a hot chai latte. There seemed to be some hesitation when we ordered, almost as if they didn't know how to make them. The employee helping us seemed to be struggling and behind, even though there were only a few other customers. She wasn't wearing a mask and there wasn't a barrier between us but we overlooked it in excitement for the drinks we had read about. Another employee came from the back to help (equally "out of it") but did have a mask on, which made the juxtaposition of the first employee more awkward. We sat and waited for our drinks while listening to them struggle to make them (no music amplified the tension). After ten minutes and having two customers that were behind us get their drinks, it started to get more awkward. After a few more minutes, the barista asked us (and the two people that ordered before us) what we all had ordered since their "receipt machine didn't print" - which you would think they would have noticed when we ordered and before they made the drinks after ours. Ten to fifteen MORE minutes later, the iced decaf mocha arrived. A few minutes later, the hot chai arrived. We were so anxious to leave that we left before tasting them. When we got to the car, we were so utterly disappointed in the taste that we threw them away. I realize now the hesitation when we ordered very well could have been that they had never made either of these drinks before. The hot chai tasted like steamed milk with cinnamon. The mocha was undrinkable - I am also quite sure it was not decaf. We ended up going back to a coffee shop down the street that thankfully made us forget about our experience or we would have gone back in and gotten refunds. This could all amount to an off-day or new employee, but I will not be going back on our next trip to Townsend. read more

We went to other *cough* coffee place that will remain nameless and the moment I walked in, I knew I couldn't order coffee. My daughter ordered a latte and immediately regretted it. Thankfully we stopped by Jake's on the River who sent us to THIS PLACE. You saved my entire week's vacation. We've been here THREE times and I even ordered a bag of beans to go. Organic coffee roasted in house, 3 non-dairy milk options, stevia sweetener, incredibly friendly/happy/knowledgable baristas and a relaxed artistic vibe with great upbeat mellow music (is that a thing?) We were in town 2 days and came here 3 times, it was that great!! A variety of patrons passed through, all happy, mostly local.
