All five for these guys. As I was sitting at the bar waiting for breakfast this morning I looked these guys up on Yelp to see the reviews. I was surprised to see the negative ones. To be completely transparent - as soon as I walked in to this place I was a part of the experience. It felt like I was back on the East Coast. It's not all fake smiles and $17 drinks here. It's real. The owner is passionate and loves this place completely. The bartender was extremely personable and attentive. I stayed after I had finished my biscuits and gravy to talk with the owner a bit about life. All in all, this place is genuine. You get what you get and I'll be surprised if you don't like it. If you're looking to crush some drinks with some good food and REAL conversation or shoot darts and jam out to a live band, then this your place because that's what these guys represent. I came back after more than a year. Drinks and food great, however, service is SOOOOO BAD! For that reason I am NOT coming back. Went for breakfast and the service was careless, they were just chatting and taking care of the minimal. We thought it was only our table but after checking their service we realized they didnt care for anyone. I dont think they even care if you leave them tip or not but at least our table we decided to leave CERO. I hope the owner or manager reads this so they can improve their service. I have only been once, but it was enough not to want to return. Everything was just "meh." The service was meh, the food was meh, the environment was meh. I suppose sitting outside on a sunny, warm day would make it less meh, but there are plenty of other places in the immediate vicinity that are much better that offer outdoor seating. The food was my least favorite part, although the service was nothing to write home about. The burger I got was a little too greasy and not very flavorful. I came here with some friends that used to frequent this place all the time. We walked in on a week day night and the entire place was quiet. Aside from the party of friends, it was almost empty. Things Change. People change, they move on. This used to be my go to place; we probably ate here at least once a week. Despite the smoke, the slightly confused waiters we enjoyed the food and atmosphere. But I guess there are other places to go for burgers sobeer and I haven't been there in a long time. I was there tonight and the place has changed. In the old days, any night of the week, there would be dozens of people guzzling beer and eating burgers. But there were barely a half dozen people in the joint tonight. We asked the waiter what the special was, and not only did HE not know what it was, the chef didn't know either; at 6 oclock! The burgers were still good and the beer selection is still good. One really bizarre thing was that a waitress changed the channel on one of the sets even though we were watching the program. We told her we were watching and she just shook her head, sighed and changed the station. In the hour I was there I didn't see her serve a single table. So I think this is a great neighborhood bar. However, as someone that's not a political activist I take offense at their restroom designation. They have one for men exclusively and the other is designated men/women. So men have 2 options women 1. What is this? What restaurant doesn't have both gender neutral or designated both for each sex? Great place to go for an early drink during the summer when it is still light out, sit on the patio enjoy the scene and hopefully pet a couple dogs that walk by. If you are there to watch a game you won't be disappointed either tons of TV's always with sports on. Make sure you order the fries with ranch it is the perfect compliment to whatever beer you may order especially after drinking more than you should. This is my first restaurant review. My gal and I were tipped off to The Attic from a sales associate at Nordstrom in Bellvue, WA but who lives locally in Madison Park. She said 'this place has 'naughty comfort food'. She wasn't lying! I ordered off the Happy Hour menu and soon learned why they call it happy. The Tillamook Cheeseburger for $6 --an 8 oz hand-formed natural beef burger served on squawbread with beer battered onion rings (for an extra buck) was really delicious and a great value. A Firestone Porter on tap was a great compliment to the meal. My girlfriend had the Chicken Strips with fries (also off the HH menu) for $7. 3 large, light and tender strips breaded with an amazing battered seasoning that was great even without your sauce of choice. Megan was our server who was a real delight and took great care of us. This was a great find and we felt right at home in this local gem of a pub. Great place to watch sports too with plenty of well-located flat screen TVs or a game of cards or darts. Simple and comforting indeed. read more

I. Freaking. Love this place. The Attic is my go-to place for casual, unpretentious food and drink. The burgers are delicious, specifically the Puyallup. The fries are addictive. But the drinks and the bartender(s) are why we keep coming back. Colleen and her crew are thoughtful and attentive, always recognizing when people are running low on their favorite beverage. We always have a great time interacting with the folks behind the bar, and no matter how busy it is we get fantastic service. The BF and I were starving and had some time to kill before meeting up with people at Red Onion Tavern just a couple doors down, so we decided to pop in to the Attic for a quick bite. I have to be completely honest and admit that when we walked in, I wasn't expecting much on the culinary front as bars typically don't have the greatest food, but I was proven wrong! I was really craving a burger and fries, so I felt pretty lucky when I saw the vast varieties I could choose from. After thoroughly perusing the menu, I decided on the White Cheddar Russian because bacon sounded amazing but I didn't want the BBQ sauce + bacon burger. I was shocked and intrigued that a divey-looking bar served grass-fed all natural beef (1/2 lb. patties!!), but took it as a good sign. Lo and behold, when the food arrived, my assumption was correct! The burger was delicious and probably among the best I've ever had at a bar, and the fries were also perfect. Interestingly, the burger also came in a rectangular ciabatta-like roll instead of a normal hamburger bun, probably to accommodate the 1/2 lb. patty. The BF ordered the chicken strips with fries and I was quite surprised to see that it had panko-like breading instead of the typical flour/buttermilk breading. We sat at the bar and had very prompt service, and our pints were perfect with our meals. The crowd is definitely a mixed bag, we were the youngest people in there by at least 10 years for a while and then around 8 PM, other people in their 20's started rolling in. They always have a wide range of great beers- from really hoppy or heavy to bud light and widmer hefewiezen. They always carry seasonal special brews and never seem to be changing it up! Awesome beer selection! As for food, let's be real. This is not a gourmet restaurant! With what seems like 20 tvs and two REAL dartboards the aura of dive bar is in the air. My husband and I LOVE "hole-in-the-wall" finds. This bar was exactly that! It was our first time in Seattle, and we were exploring all of the surrounding neighborhoods. It appears to be a local hangout, where everybody knows your name. It is decorated with sports paraphernalia, so dressing casual is an absolute must! I was disappointed in the beer selection. My first 3 (very common) choices were not sold. The "regulars" that were in there, were super friendly and chatted up a storm with us. Then there was the bartender..... She was truly the most UNPLEASANT human being on the planet! That is using the nicest adjective I could for her. She seemed put out by any questions, and had no intentions of showing any time of warm customer service. I would be shocked (and disappointed) if she ever received tips. Awful service from the patio tonight. Waiter walks up to our table and just stares at us without talking or introducing himself and waits for us to begin. After waiting 15 minutes for him to come over to order our drinks and after waiting 10 minutes our waiter returned to ask again what we ordered and said the ticket was lost. Waiter disappeared for 20 minutes and waited over 40 minutes for food to arrive. Ordered chips and dip as a starter (salsa and guac) which didn't come out with mains until 40 minutes after ordering. Waiter laughed when we went inside to ask about our food since he had not returned outside since taking our order. Food arrived and we did not have napkins, silverware and had to ask for sauces. Had to go inside again to ask server for silverware and sauce. Server comes out after food and laughs asking if "everything's all good?" Never apologized for the wait or his absence our entire meal. don't go near the waiter with the glasses and the ponytail! You'll regret it read more

A few girlfriends and I were looking for a place to sit and chat. After grabbing a pager at the Cactus next door. We had an hour to kill so we popped into the Attic for a quick chat and some beer. Attic is a great way to describe this place. Aren't all attics super cool? And full of hidden surprises and treasures? This alehouse reminded me of a cool little hideout and a lot of the other patrons looked like regulars. I liked the homey feel to it and it reminded me a lot of an English pub. Soccer playing on the TVs, flags all over the walls, jerseys, sports memorabilia, you name it and it's nailed to the walls. I've been to the Attic multiple times as part of a Saturday morning running group, and it seems like the service has become poorer each and every time. My last visit was recent, and it looks like they have chosen to not split bills among a group anymore. Which wasn't a problem for my group, as we were willing to take one check and write out everyone's charges (to pay via credit card). Unfortunately, when the waitress stopped by our table to pick up the cards, she then promptly told us that they can only take up to a max of 4 credit cards, and that we needed to figure out the transfer of funds amongst ourselves afterwards. Honestly, I had never seen anything like this in an establishment, even at the more dive of bars out there. We refused to do that, so they eventually took our credit cards (which tells me it wasn't a capability function, but more of case that they're lazy and didn't want to run multiple credit cards, when most people don't carry around cash on them anymore) To add to that, the service was extremely slow, and it wasn't as if they were that busy that morning. At one point, I asked a simple question if they could take their salmon and mix it with scrambled eggs. The bartender or someone from behind the bar heard my request and responded with a very curt 'no'. (no other explanation behind it). I will never enter this establishment again. read more

This place can intimidate you at first, because it seems like all the servers know everyone else but you. If you go there more than once, you'll feel like a regular. The burgers are good - the mushroom Swiss is delicious! Piled high with cheese and lots of mushrooms. Their regular burger is quite tasty too. Thursdays they have dollar PBR's so you really can't go wrong with that. The servers are for the most part friendly and my beer glass is never empty. I would give this place 4-5 stars if the service and the server's attitude's were even slightly (just slightly) positive. Servers here seem to be proud to walk around with a chip on their shoulder. This is the fourth time I've gone to this place and every time there is just definitely no improvement on service- actually it just gets worse! The last time I was there our server was practically throwing our burgers and fries plates on the table and the fries would splatter everywhere when the plate lands. When you go to the bar (because your server never checks on you), prepare to have stare-downs with the servers because they will make eye-contact with you but turn away and help someone else. Once you get your order in, order as many drinks (just order a damn pitcher!) as you can or you will go a long time without a drink waiting for the server or for the drink you ordered to come. I get that the servers are super "friendly" with the customers (in a sarcastic kind of way) because maybe that's the kind of atmosphere this bar has but it gets really old fast. REALLY OLD. Don't' think the servers here care for making good tips since they don't put in the work. Regardless how busy a place gets, a good server can still put a smile on their face but there's a lot more frowning and scowling going on here from the servers than anything. Totally agree with the review that said the manager gives bad service. We were there for college football and of the 3 people working (manager, 2 servers) only one was doing anything - and she was working HARD, but only 1 server for 20 people while the other two sit at a table and talk is ridiculous. The food was fine, the beer was fine, but thanks to our server being overworked we were waiting a very, very long time to order things and then receive them - consequently, the food was cold. The Attic is never getting any more of my money, however, since the manager basically told us not to come back - apparently someone rooting for the same college we were rooting for (not with us, nobody we know) said something rude to a server LAST YEAR and the manager bawled us out for it at great length. We had 15 people out of the 20 or so in the bar all morning, all of whom got food and multiple beers. I have to qualify this review before I get started. I love chicken wings. I love them despite people hate watching other people eat chicken wings. I love them despite the fact that there is generally no nutritional value in anything deep fried and slathered in hot sauce. I love them despite the fact that I look like I've been syphoning hot sauce out of a bucket by the time I'm done eating and I have enough meat stuck in my teeth to add noodles and have a chicken salad. That being said, I love the Attic because they have fantastic chicken wings. I do not love the Attic because their staff is often slow and indifferent to the customers, and they probably have not cleared their keg lines since the doors first opened for business. And if you're new to their turf and you've had more than 6 beers, they may just cut you off and serve you only Coors Light for the remainder of your stay. But the neighborhood regulars are not only often over served but also are known by the staff to drive home after hours upon hours of imbibing, sports watching and lots of sitting. The Attic is a nice neighborhood pub with a decent selection of beer on tap and some pretty good bar food. A bunch of friends and I came here to watch a Sounder's game and had a fun time. We were mostly drinking pitchers of Kokanee, but they also have Diamond Knot IPA, Manny's and some of my other favorites. Unfortunately they don't have a full bar. My burger was pretty tasty, but I didn't think it was remarkable. Also, not that I need a half pound of ground beef, but it sure looked smaller than advertised. If it really were a half pound I doubt I could have finished it. I had a few bites of the grilled chicken curry salad too, which was a delicious mix of greens, chicken, walnuts, raisins and a yummy curry dressing. We split a plate of nachos as well and I can't believe I'm writing this but I think it had too much cheese. Wait, that can't be right. Let's just say that there weren't enough chips. By the end we had chunks of melted cheese in the basket and no chips left! They've got a couple dart boards in the back and we had fun playing after the game was over. The staff was friendly and very helpful when we needed to split our bill at the end of the night. I think we all had a great time, and I'll probably come back someday, but it doesn't seem like somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit. Hence the three stars. read more

Why so much hate ? As expensive as Madison Park is, this place is honest, has 2 happy hours most days of the week and has local staff. Not a chain, no does it have anything close to a chain feeling. You can tell there is pride in ownership and the staff want you to feel welcome. As for the "attitude" of one of the employees, hers is refreshing in the faux-friendliness I see in many of the other places in the hood. Colleen, Vivian Sarah, Ryan and Cameron are great front of house people. The kitchen staff is consistent and the food is of good portions and value. If the staff's percieved "attitude" keeps this place from being an overrun douche bag establishment then I am all for it. The rotating IPA's on tap have helped me a lot as a recent Seattleite. French fries served without napkins, had to get up and go ask for some myself and they weren't even busy; subtle gender politics on the bathroom doors: Boy's for the Men's room and Women (complete with the symbol for women) on the Women's bathroom door, (photos included) written in pen and taped to the door, lol. Nice day in seattle decided to stop and eat with a friend who's eaten here before..... big mistake. Took about an hour for the food to come out, burger was nasty, fries are great, service sucked. Behind the bar sitting on a trash can was all the clean utensils in the basket right out the dishwasher The only waitress in the place must have forgotten something on someone's tab (shocking)so the bartender announced it and that the person was super pissed out loud to everyone basically. "Isn't Madison Park where all the rich people live?" I wondered as we walked into the seemingly out-of-place Attic Alehouse. "So why are we eating onion rings dipped in ranch dressing?" I wondered again, a few minutes later. Maybe it's where all the rich people come when they want to "slum it." We overheard a nearby table of decidedly preppy folks arguing over the South's right to fly the Confederate flag this day and age. It seemed an odd choice of conversation, but then again, we were eating onion rings as an appetizer to a fancy Italian dinner down the street, so we had no room to judge. Might I add, though, they were damn good onion rings, even if my husband joked they probably were not handmade. We also enjoyed a couple pints of Guinness and Hale's Cream Ale while waiting to meet some friends for dinner. Nestled in between these picturesque places, you'll stumble across The Attic, and it. is. glorious. If you're looking for a casual and familial little pub with a rustic but sporty feel, today is the first day of the rest of your life. You know how all of your favorite tv sitcoms have a favorite local bar of their own? A place of familiar regulars and warm welcomes; The Attic will soon become the coffee shop to your Friends, the diner to your Seinfeld, the Cheers to your...well, Cheers. Upon entering, you'll probably pass a dog or two lounging outside amid the patio seating, feel free to stop and pet, they'll love you forever. The bar is relatively small, as all secretly awesome dive bars are, but the charming wooden booths and cocktail tables are welcoming and ample enough to negate it's snug size. The menu offers typical pub food options with a few zingers in there, such as crab eggs benedict for brunch and home cooked favorites like Guiness Stew. Though most of the choices on the menu won't make your hat twirl to read, the food never disappoints. Most come with side options of salad, vegetables, or french fries, as expected, but toss out the guilt for the day and try the french fries, some of the best you'll find anywhere. I've returned several times and still have not managed to overcome their calling and order the side salad. I've also developed a particularly gripping addiction to their Turkey Bacon Clubs (with a special topping of avocado). I'm hoping they'll eventually name it after me. Obviously, no one goes to a pub with low expectations for their drink selections and, being Pacific Northwesters, you'll want a hearty selection of microbrews to boot. Seek no more, with a copious draft and bottle selection, you'll have your choice of hoppy creations and won't be disappointed. Service from the waitstaff can be touch and go, especially depending on the time of day. My friends and I don't usually mind, it's a relaxed enough atmosphere to take matters into our own hands but if you're looking for a proper date night , it may not be the best place to pop in. Behind the bar, you'll find Mark and Simon, you'll know him by his charming southern accent. These guys could not be more friendly and gregarious and will soon become your good friends. If by now you're curious enough to stop on in, be sure to reserve your next Tuesday night for your visit. Tuesdays at 8 are Trivia Night and although you won't win a trip to Disneyland, the crowd is jovial, the questions thought provoking, and you won't be riddled with irritating cheaters with iphones to your left and right. The food is decent bar food. It is what you would expect from an older bar and priced accordingly (very reasonable). I really like the prime rib dip sandwich they have on occasion. Big thick slab o prime rib served on a roll with au jus and horseradish. They get a star for that. The service on the other hand is :(, especially if you get the manager and are someone she does not regularly serve. If she knows you, she will joke and shoot the breeze with you and regularly check on your beer. If not, she may gruffly grace your table, will forget you wanted salad instead of fries, will forget that your dinner date wanted the onion rings instead of fries and wont stick around long enough for you to order another beer let alone check back later. What used to be a classic old Seattle bar (think the Roanoke on M.I) is now run by a VERY rude gate keeper who treats it like her special private club. Particularly on game days. I know no other place in Seattle that tells people to go down the street because they are saving the open tables. I've been one of those that came early enough that she couldn't kick me out and watched people be turned away only to not have a full house. Pubs are in the true fashion meant to be gathering spots for communities; open, FRIENDLY, and fun. The Attic is no longer any of these. read more
