When I imagine what an ideal neighborhood bar is like I think variety of seats (different table sizes and bar top seating), good food, decent drinks, and maybe games...The Neighborhood Lady delivered on all fronts. The menu is not only gluten free friendly but also vegan friendly with substitution options if it is not listed as vegan on the menu. In addition to the card games and table top games that patrons can use, there is also a billiards table. There are no servers, if you want to order you go to the counter and then food is brought to your table. The staff were nice and although at times there was a line to order the wait was never super long. read more

This place absolutely exceeded my expectations with their vegan options. They have several including a vegan cheese board and vegan poutine, two of my favorite foods I miss being able to eat. The menu has plenty of options for everyone and you find a seat and order at the bar. The bartender was very sweet and chatted with us as they prepared our drinks. It has a dog friendly patio which was lovely and the inside is mostly open to the patio area if you'd like to enjoy the patio without actually being outside lol. The neighborhood bar vibe combined with an impressively varied and well executed menu makes me heartily recommend this spot, especially for vegans. Save up your calories or go for a long bike ride before coming to this place because the food is delicious and doesn't cut corners. Plus it comes with a side of local friendliness that makes everything just a bit better We got patty melts with side salads (thank goodness), and I'm still recovering from the umami overload, so good. Popped in here for a drink and appetizer before dinner while in Seattle. Super cute spot, great ambiance, kind bartender/server. Loved that it's dog friendly even inside! Zucchini bites were excellent and a large portion for the price - we got the vegan cheese plate which was interesting, likely would prefer the dairy version but they were out that day. For a "neighbor", service sure is unfriendly. We came during happy hour on Thursday after a walk in the neighborhood. We were so excited to support a local establishment! Unfortunately, the red headed hostess's unkind attitude overshadowed the delicious fried zucchini we split. We sat and saw our meal sit in the window for 15 minutes. There were no customers at the counter nor any other sense of urgency in the parlor. After mustering up the courage to ask if that was our food, the same hostess snapped at us and said "I'm getting it in a minute." She then huffed and puffed and left the plate on our table with a bang. We both thanked her, and she strutted away with an eye roll. Never in my life have I regretted tipping 20% at a walk up counter! The food was cold but good. The last thing I want to do was negatively review a local small business, but this service is seriously hurting the customer experience read more

Everybody knows the rules if there's an item on the menu that's on my default list, order it stock. List: Reuben, Ramen, Rainier Beer, House Burger, Fish-n-chips, lemons in the ice water, and kitsch. They had a state flag table order number system. They use re-usable state flags which is BONUS points for sustainable and community building element. I was planning on what to eat here order it and in this case a delicious sounding Classic Reuben was on menu with sweet potato fries. Most restaurants don't appreciate the simplicity of a classic on their menu. I don't want fancy verbal decolatauge then have to engage Broca's area of my brain and have to deconstruct a culinary thesaurus to figure out what your menu is. I want to spend less time looking at the menu and more time shoving the food in my pie hole and enjoying your restaurant. I need you to reduce the amount of thinking I have to do between walking into your establishment and a plate of food and a cold drink showing up on my table. The food showed up and it smells really good, well toasted and juicy spilling onto the plate, which is where it could be a little better. Staff seem happy, well treated, service was 5 star good with my beer Rainer on Draft it was so refreshing and cold 4 1/2 stars. The sandwich was good, but it was delivered on this plate with almost no room to eat it. The plate needs to be bigger or they need to give a table for two a smaller version of this giant battle shield sized condiment caddy. This Battle Carrier of condiments include (2)16 ounce squirt bottles of ketchup and mustard, maybe a quart of soy sauce and oyster sauce or something. We don't need enough sauce for the University of Washington offensive line. It took up half the table just to handle a plate and a beer, all I really needed was a midsized ramekin of ketchup or maybe mix a little Sriracha, mayo and ketchup together and charge an extra dollar. I like crisp fries, I cannot lie. These were delicious sweet potato fries and even well seasoned, but similar to eating salmon they bought quality, seasoned it and cooked to limp. Now fries should be done from frozen to crisp edges with weekly changed oil, as it's equally bad to definitely overcook and serve it dry. I did enjoy the fries they... uggh I just hate limp fries as they should be considered a felony. I'll definitely be back with classic bar menu, $18 thick n juicy Ruben, a $4 draft beer are you kidding me, also get more thousand dressing with extra crispy fries with a ramekin for dipping da fries. read more

I used to like the Neighbor Lady but Trivia Night which happens at kinds of random times has ruined it for me. The smarmy guy's yelling into the mic and everything goes sideways. The "Earth Burger" is the best vegetarian burger I've had in this city. Place also has chill vibes generally speaking. Feels modeled after pubs in NYC. That said, service is with the bartenders. They're super friendly with people they already know but borderline rude if they dont know you. Not even like basic acknowledgement when you say "thank you." Basically the "Seattle Freeze" made manifest while you try to grab a bite. Maybe a little worse to feeling like they actively hate you for walking in? So not really a neighborly place, at least during the day, unless you're already part of the club. Still worth it for the burger though read more

Came to yelp to see if anybody else encountered rude staff. Sure enough, I agree with the couple of recent reviews about the staff. This place would be four or five stars if it wasn't for that. Me and my friend after leaving both talked about how they seemed mean for no reason. We are both brown and considered if it was because of racism. I hate to play the race card, so assuming the other reviewers that brought up rudeness are white, I'm glad that they're just jerks. Food and drinks were ok and we had a good time playing pool. I'll definitely be back for drinks and billiards, I just hope they see this so they don't wonder why my tips are below standard if I don't get better service next time. read more

The food is really good! My favorites: Handmade Veggie Burger, Sunday Prime Rib, Regular Burger, Lunch Deals. The service is NOT bad or rude or anything like that. Service doesn't really match the space/building, in my opinion. Kind of a "Well, I'm 'nice enough'. What do you want from me?" Kind of vibe. For instance, only one has chatted me up in 14 months. They seem pretty indifferent. Not rude at all!... but weirdly standoffish? Especially for a place with Neighbor in the name. They have a great space both inside and outside. It could really be a packed place filled with regulars from just a half mile radius. You dont need to kiss ass but act like you want people to come back. Longevity depends on building those relationships. I've brought people there for dinner but getting up to get a refill on a soda feels ridiculous when your food is back at the table getting cold while you wait your turn for the bartender. You couldn't drop off soda refills? That's on the business policies more than the staff. No table service but I know you want that table service sized tip. Overall, everyone is nice, the food is bomb and comes out quickly, dependable food quality, and they have good specials. For these reasons they get 5 stars. read more

Great look and feel. Nice staff and great food! The design seems aimed at traditional UK pub, and it's pretty close. I ate the jerk chicken with asparagus and smoked potato mash. They smile the potatoes like smoking meat, then serve like mashed potatoes. It is so unique and delicious. Brilliant! Jerk was great, and not too spicy as often is. I wanted more of everything! Two thumbs up! We came here about 2 years ago & remembered how good it was and decided to try it out on a busy weekend evening. It's located behind Uncle Ike's and can be easily missed if you're not paying attention. The restaurant itself is so low-key they don't have waiter service. You order your drinks and food at the bar and someone will deliver your food to your seat. It's dark and has a grungy feel with delicious eats & drinks a plenty. We ordered drafts beers on tap & split a pastrami sandwich with sweet potato fries since it was our second dinner. No shame. Also, can't go to a new place and NOT eat their food. It was delicious! The bread was perfectly crisp and the melted cheese went well with the pastrami meat and hot mustard - which complemented the sweet potato fries. So glad this is just across the street from us. Tucked behind Uncle Ike's on Union just off 23rd, The Neighbor Lady had been on my list for a while. I dug the vibe: unpretentious, cozy but not too dark, music but not too loud. The menu was mostly salads and sandwiches, although there were some other choices, like pastas. My sandwich had pork, mustard, and pickles. It was big, salty, and tangy, but a little heavy. My girlfriend had a a delicious BLT with the bacon subbed for field roast (any of the sandwiches can be made vegetarian). They have pool tables and a jukebox, and trivia one day a week (although I missed which day). Honestly, I really used to like this bar. But recently, the food has been taking a sharp downturn - I'm not sure if there was a shift in management or if the cooks are just different, but I've been twice in the past few weeks and the food has been almost inedible both times. Also - I frequent dive bars and am okay overall with some staff drinking, but the redhead bartender with blue glasses seemed pretty intoxicated - she was very out of it and quite rude to me when we interacted. It was awkward to watch and definitely didn't help my opinion of the spot going downhill. read more

This place is fun, with two pinball machines and pacman to play, along with cool decorations including the lamp from a Christmas story! If you want food while sitting at a table you have to order from the bar then they bring it out to you. For drinks you order them at the bar then wait until they are made. I had the gluten free crepe which was yummy. It's nice they mark the gluten free options on the menu. My husband had a sandwich with sweet potato fires. He liked his sandwich just not the fries. (Although I loved the fries they were nice and crispy!) This is a fun place to grab some drinks I just wish their menu had a few more options that I would've wanted. read more

A pretty low key bar! I like how their happy hour goes until 7 which is longer than others. They have a nice selection of drinks. Most of their food are sandwiches which I'm a huge fan of. I wish there was more variety, but this is more of a bar than a restaurant. The vibe here is nice and easy going. There are multiple seatings and a pool table. read more

Low-key bar located next to Uncle Ike's. There is limited parking and the parking lot itself is kind of annoying to get in/out of. This bar is a decent size and the crowd isn't obnoxious, rowdy, or stuck-up. I came here with co-workers on a weekday at around 6 p.m. I ordered the poutine which was surprisingly good (bar food typically sucks, IMO) and a huge portion. Tables and menus were clean. Not sticky and gross, again like those in bars tend to be. There are only bartender working so we had to wait for a bit but he was friendly and attentive. There is free, pour-your-own water to the left of the order line so you don't have to keep waiting in line just to get a cup of water. I don't really remember that bathroom but I guess that's a good thing--it must've not been gross and trashed. They have some retro arcade games. I'd come here with a first date or just as a place to kick back with friends! read more

Cozy and tucked behind a pot shop lies this little den. I had some good food, fast service and strong drinks. A real nice place for a safe first date - simple and delicious menu that would offer at least an item or two for any one persons tastes. I had the Hanky Panky and a HUGE serving of sweet potato fries. They have pool, a small arcade game area, a bar area which you order at, tables and booths (some big enough to hold parties of 6+ persons) - plus when you place your food order at the bar, they give you a cute lil' flag as a marker for your order. What a great "hangout spot"! I came here as I was in town for 2 days and needed a drink. After walking all over Seattle and experiencing those BIG hills! Whoo I was ready to sit and relax. I'm happy I walked into The Neighbor Lady. I needed to recharge my phone and the only plugs they had were located in the front of the door. I walked in nonchalant and charged my phone and couldn't help notice the nice talkative bartender Darren P. He looked at me and greeted me with great pleasure. After a couple minutes of sitting down I noticed there was Happy Hour going on. WHAT!! Happy Hour is legit! Happy Hour is all day Sunday!! I love it! Sandwiches are worth telling your friends about and they ALL can be made vegetarian. Pool, arcade games, and 6 different kinds of vector wallpaper. It's darker than dark, so everyone looks sexy, and they've managed to find some of the nicest bar staff in the NW. Get at this place before it turns into a condo hot spot! I definitely give this spot a 4 star mostly because of the cheap drinks and delicious French Fries. Order a round of $3 Bitburgers, share a basket, and grab a booth. The crowd is a little older20-30 year olds and I fit right in with the crowd; the jukebox leaves something to be desired; the wallpaper is pretty legit! Having moved from Capitol Hill to the Central District, we're still adjusting to having fewer walkable options. One of the closest bars is now the Neighbor Lady, which we'd heard good things about and decided to audition for the role of "neighborhood bar." We stopped in earlyish on a weeknight (they do have happy hour specials, but we missed them). Lots of booth seating was available and there were just a handful of small groups chatting and drinking, not too rowdy. Sure, it's kind of divey inside, but in a cozy, friendly way -- wood floors, vintagey wallpaper, and art in fancy frames on the walls. We tried a couple of their draft ciders (Ace and Anthem, I think). Prices were reasonable and service was quick. In addition to beer and cider, they have a full bar and usually feature a rotating special cocktail on the board. They have trivia nights, $5 mimosas and Bloody Marys on Sundays, a vegetarian-friendly menu (but they do serve meat), and they have pinball machines in the back, so I can see a lot of reasons for making this our regular bar! (Bonus: the CD's only pot shop is right next door.) I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying their dinner menu. read more

I swung by The Neighbor Lady at the tail end of a busy week and gluttonous weekend visiting Seattle. It was a nice place to unwind and hang out with my friends in town. We got a quiet booth, and at one point, we were able to fit seven of us without getting too cramped. The bar was comfortable, with a casual boudoir aesthetic. We managed to have a pretty long conversation about old school whorehouses, and I can't imagine we weren't influenced by the charms of The Neighbor Lady. I didn't get a drink this time around, a brief reprieve in a week of overindulgence and overspending. The whiskey selection was decent, though, and I would have been tempted if I couldn't get the same drinks back home. We stayed and chatted for a while, and it was all very pleasant. I liked this place. The atmosphere was calm but not boring, and it was easy to hang out. I get why it's called The Neighbor Lady - it's the kind of bar where you can drop in for a drink and a little fun any time you like. read more

Favorite bar...ever? Maybe too early to tell but I do know that I have fallen in love with the Neighbor Lady. The charm of a great bar is hard to do. It's divey but yet somehow well put together and almost sophisticated. They have some good beers on tap and offer a slew of other drinks. They have a pool table, a leg lamp, vintage wall paper, awesome decor, and a Ms. Pac Man machine! The food though is what has really won me over. Great specials for amazing prices. My first visit I tried the special Maple Whiskey Steak over mustard greens and parsnip purree. Amazing. Perfectly cooked steak, great savory sauce, paired well with the sweetness of the puree, and greens to complete the dish. The next time I had to try their sweet potato fries. These are some of the best I have ever had, if not the best. They have the perfect crispy exterior and have the perfect salt to them. Every fry was perfectly cooked and not too greasy. To supplement the fries I ordered the Green Goddess salad with chicken added. This was a heft salad and I loved it. The tahini dressing, almonds, green apple and raisins were all so tasty with the hearty kale bedding. The clientele and the atmosphere is what I love best here but I think the Neighbor Lady has it all going on. read more

When my cousin and I walked in, we were a bit apprehensive since my cousin had always felt uncomfortable when walking by this place. However, her partner was super enthusiastic and really wanted to try this place. We were all glad we did! First of all, do you know how hard it is to find Rainer Beer on tap? ? ? Pretty hard because my boyfriend ( a GIANT Rainer Beer fan) has never found it on tap. Well low and behold, it was here, at this bar, in the middle of the Central District. That was a pretty awesome find considering no bar in Ballard, Fremont, and all those hipster towns that i have been to has it. Anywhoo, the bartenders were pretty friendly, especially the gal that took over for the bartender that was there when we walked in. She was super sweet and very helpful, especially when she brought out a small dish of honey for my cousin's delicious sweet potato fries... she was right when she said it was like a nice hot desert! I had ordered the special which was a green chili tuna melt! I practically melted off my barstool as I ate this thing. The bread was perfectly toasted, the green chilis were prominent but not over powering the tuna. I even licked my fingers and practically my plate after I finished my sandwich... it was that good. I would like to come back and try the other delicious items on their menu and try the other beers they have on tap. The time I visited I had a bottle of ACE hard cider, it was the first time I had it and it was nice and refreshing. They also have a small arcade with some arcade cabinets in a small corner near the entrance! Many bars dont have arcade games now a days... so it was nice to see some old school gaming still rockin!
