Was in auburn yesterday to go hiking and googled sand which shops & this place popped up. They're located in downtown auburn which is maybe a mile from the state park. I got the turkey pastrami sandwich on sourdough bread. Y'all I don't ever buy sandwiches (I'm a weirdo) this is probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life & they're SO generous with their portion! 14$ is a lot for a sandwich but they give you a lot. They have a great selection of healthy snacks and drinks as well if you want to take it with you on your hike. I also got the strawberry banana orange smoothie and it was great. The employees were very friendly. I'll defiantly be back here again to take my boyfriend when we come to auburn again to go hiking! read more

I had an amazing tuna melt and my son had a grilled cheese! The bread is amazing! Molly and crew were super friendly and the service was fast. We ate outside in the sunshine. I highly recommend stopping at this cute sandwich shop on your way to Tahoe. It is 2 minutes off the highway so very convenient. We even picked up some locally made English muffins for breakfast. I'm a huge fan of this place. I was immediately intrigued by the name. You rarely hear the term bodega being used on the west coast. Not only that, but it's not just a typical mini mart or convenience store. It's a health food store! So creative. A nice selection of quick convenience foods as well as ingredients. Plus they have a deli with sandwiches and juices. The owner is really sweet and easygoing. I love that they have kale chips from The Cultured Kitchen. Back in 2014 (I'm dating myself lol), kale chips were having a moment and countless brands emerged. More recently, all I can typically find is Brads and Rhythm. It was nice to see a brand I've never tried before! read more

Local produce, local goods, DELICIOUS bread from Warren and Co Sourdough, and the most delicious soups, salad, sandwiches, smoothies and specials (Falafel Friday is one of our family faves!) I honestly am not a sandwich person. I'm an Auburn Bodega Sandwich person though! Anytime I go to pick up sandwiches for the family, my husband just tells me "surprise me! Yesterday evening, as luck would so fatefully have it, I discovered I had exhausted all my ham rations on the premises of my Auburn estate, so I called upon my assistant, Tou. "Tou, my man, why haven't I any sustenance?" "Marris, I just went shopping for you yesterday. There's no feasible way you consumed everything." "Sir, you mistake me. You misunderstand. I am on a mission and waiting for my time." Tou nodded modestly, understanding my intent was to acquire, if not create, the greatest ham on rye in the state. It was now time for me to bide my time, so I called upon a female in my contacts. Her name is Loquacious Thatchbern, daughter of the acclaimed Nevarious Thatchbern, prolific rodentologist who pioneered vast advancements in the field of arvicolinae endocrinology. Despite her being thirty-two years my senior and my mentor/employer/rationer at the time, I asked her to be my lady date to my cousin's (marginal) wedding. I was declined, perhaps on account of my prefacing the wedding as preemptively marginal. Not one to be flapped so easily, I asked out her daughter, Loquacious Thatchbern, aged 24, to be my lady date for the evening. She was drawn to marginality, she stated, and thus accepted my invitation to the marginal wedding. We found it slightly amusing after all. The cake was lemon. She enjoys the sweet sounds of Frankie Valli, as she discovered when I broadened her musical horizons the entire drive to Fresno with a compilation of Frankie Valli musical selections. As has been noted by many, this was my time, so I departed my Auburn estate to further my quest to find the greatest ham on rye in the state. I picked up Loquacious from a stellar enterprise she called her place of employment, a Tire Service whose exact specs escape me, a location at which she is an executive manager, subordinate to absolutely no one. "Hey baby, were you aware that woodchucks can drop their body temperatures down to 37 degrees from 99 degrees?" I prompted when she arrived inside of my yellow vehicle from the fleet. "Yes, Marris, you texted me this yesterday." "Well then, baby, it might interest you to know their length can exceed seven inches in length, and their height can reach 27." We accelerated in my vehicle until we arrived, long at last, to The Auburn Bodega. I heard excellent things from fellow patrons of Yelp, so my expectations were through the roof, as it were. I ordered the most heavenly ham on rye I have yet to consume. Loquacious was relieving herself at the time of my ordering, so in a blitz, I ordered her a pastrami on sourdough and a backup sandwich, chicken on white. She had her pick to choose, and she chose to get in line and order the veggie sandwich. Allegedly she was a vegetarian. I took the sandwiches home to give to my dear pet voles, Loyce and Lace; my prized mouse, Truffle (aged 5); my hamster, Suze (tricky); and my twin rats, Force and Feed. There is a story behind the name that I would prefer not to recount. I will merely note that the name is a reference to abstract thought pertaining to five-point rectilinear ideologies and holds no bearing upon their life stories. I took Loquacious back home to my Auburn estate so as to watch an interesting documentary on Bob Marley, entitled Marley, released 2012. Afterwards, wishing to allure, I imitated woodchuck mating cries as a cheerful callback to the previous interaction of the evening. The best sandwich place in the area (In my opinion in CA). Everything including the bread is baked locally, microgreens and the pickled "extras" are amazing. Can't say enough good things about Molly and her staff. I order 20-30 sandwiches and they are always ready on-time, delicious, packed with goodies and mouth-wateringly good. I've been to Ike's, and a bunch of other "good sandwich" shops but nothing beats this place. read more

We all enjoyed our food at this unassuming deli. I got the seemingly popular veggie sandwich, the sweet potato was really yummy if not a bit overpowering. Brother got the big salad with turkey and really enjoyed it. He had to split it into two meals and that's saying something for him haha. My mom got the tuna salad, didn't love the cheese on it but found it otherwise enjoyable. Good place for lunch and to grad a few at-home necessities, especially vegan and vegetarian ones. I took my mom there and my mom asked the counter lady if she could make a smoothy but just leave out the orange juice because it hurts her stomach. The lady said yes, but according to my Mom, she saw the lady put some orange juice in it anyway. I ordered a smoothy with blueberries in it, I dont recall the name. Wasn't very good; didn't taste fresh. While we were in the store, the counter people there were ok; they asked what would we like - they were not rude to us two old ladies. My mom didn't tell me about her drink til drinks were already paid for and we were back in the car leaving. She didn't want to confront them; she's very elderly. Needless to say, she didn't drink any of it except for the first sip and she said she could definitely taste the orange. I wouldn't go back even if I lived in Auburn; I'm from San Diego just visiting my mom. My mom lives in Auburn and I know she definitely won't go back. I have been twice. This is such an awesome little place! I have gotten three sandwiches and a smoothy thing. I LOVED 2 of the sandwiches. We had them for dinner tonight. The wrap thing and the turkey one with sweet potatoes (I can't remember the names, tried to find the menu online but was unsuccessful). I actually nought them around 3:30 and didn't eat them until close to 7:30 and nothing was soggy. Very impressed The 4 stars is because I was not a fan of the pastrami sandwich. I think it's the fatty in me, but there was not enough grease or fat in the pastrami. It was too lean (yes I know people are going to roll their eyes when they read this, too lean?) My family is from back east. I'm used to a certain greasiness. In my opinion, it was so lean that it really lacked any taste at all. I thought there would be a spread or something on the bread but there was very little or nothing. There was so much meat! I NEVER take meat out but the ratio of bread/cheese/meat/sauerkraut was not right for me and I ended up making a second sandwich with half the meat from the first. All in all this is an awesome awesome place!! I can't wait to try everything. read more

If you want healthy food that is delicious and served by wonderful people in a timely manner this is the place! I came here because I thought it was a grocery store and had wanted to stop in and grab some road snacks. To my delight they had a fully stocked fridge of some quick grab and go items as well as a little deli counter offering sandwiches made to order. We were greeted warmly upon entering by a gentleman who was very pleasant and joked around with us. Since we were new and looking at everything they offered recommendations and let us browse in peace. We felt very welcomed and the brightly lit produce just gave off good vibes. We decided to eat here as well. My husband went for the tuna melt and I decided to try the mock tuna sandwich. We split both and loved them both! Their mock tuna is actually epic and even though I am not a vegan I would absolutely eat this on a regular basis! They sold the mock tuna separately and we got a container of it to go, we also got some of their nacho cashew cheese to go with a bag of organic tortilla chips, some chocolate coconut pudding cups, and some random treats that were around the register area. Unlike the other health food deli up the block we didn't have to wait an hour for our sandwiches either. This place is a small grocery store but everything is organic, fresh, made with clean ingredients and you can tell the owners put so much thought and love into this place! It was nice grabbing items I knew were going to be full of clean ingredients without having to label check everything, they purposely curated the shop this way and I wish we had a place like this at home! I will always make the Bodega a pit stop on my trips through Auburn! I cant wait to try some soups and other menu items next time! Do not pass this place by thinking its just a store! The Classic Turkey on sourdough is my "go to" sandwich here--minus sprouts. The sandwich is definitely enough for two people. It has generous, thick pieces of Turkey breast, lettuce, pickles, pickled onions with cheese as an option. Yum! This place has a nice variety of healthy food and local produce. We saw the great reviews and decided to go there for lunch. Yes, it's a small deli store with food available at the second counter in the middle of the store. We split a tuna melt and a pastrami. Both were wonderful! The tuna was open-faced and was mouth watering. Portions were big enough that we could split one sando for lunch while diving into the other one later for dinner. Great value!
