I had a HK730 Receiver that needed repair. Alot of scratchy popping noise. Ron took went over it , replaced some transmitters, capacitators and thoroughly deoxidized the various knobs and tuner. I received a call letting me know what was done, and that it was ready for pickup three days later. Upon pick up, Ron went over everything he found and what was done. Showed me and gave me a bag of all the parts replaced. He even cleaned the receiver. Very impressed with his thoroughness, and am glad there is an experienced tech , close to me. He is highly skilled and entirely up to date on the latest in audio and at the same time, he has a passion for and comprehensive knowledge of vintage audio gear. I believe he will work on audio speakers as well as amps and receivers and even radios but he draws the line at cabinetry. Found out about Ron and the Audio Shop at a great Kenosha favorite, Chesters Electronics. I was just grabbing a cord I knew they would likely have. The sweet woman that helped me was kind enough to listen to my receiver woes and suggested Ron. It was a Saturday and I called him at once. I gave a brief description of my receiver and the problem I was having. Ron said bring it in, which I did. My receiver is nothing special, but it is to me. I dropped off my Dennon DRA 635R and Ron was more than helpful and not presumptuous about my meager receiver (saw a lot of high-end stuff he had in his shop). He called several days and said she's ready. I really enjoyed speaking with Ron and was stoked to get my receiver back. Ron's price was fair and I will surely use him for any further needs. Ron Is very good at quality tube amps, as many bring in 40 year old sears stuff, or a 30 year old solid state reciever which are a dime a dozen, you know a tech like Ron is good when he can get into the chasis of a Fisher, or Mcintosh tube amp which are the cream of the crop to a true music novelist, and get it going for another 20 years. If not for him and others like Ron, The amps Avery Fisher created in the 60's would be paper weights now. Bias, voltages, circuits, caps, tubes, that is what makes ron the real deal. A solid state he can do in his sleep, tube amps he can read a shematic and go to work and make it as rich as a millionaires bank account. If your a loyal customer, he cranks it back to you quick, but also in proper working condition. Ron is quite knowledgeable and has very fair pricing. I have used other shops in Illinois and waited for months to get my gear back. And it wasn't always fixed when I picked it up. I brought in an original Bose to be repaired, it wouldn't read CDs anymore. The Audio Shop was literally the only repair shop that would even look at it and I was ecstatic to find it. The gentleman running the shop is super nice and the end result was that he did indeed fix my Bose; however, you must continue to call in order to get your item looked at & repaired in a timely manner. Perhaps he overbooks himself, but we were moving out of state and needed the Bose repaired before we moved. It took him 3 weeks and even then it was a phone call to him saying, "even if it's not fixed we are picking it up tomorrow." He did fix it and I'm pleased with the results. Just be warned, it's not speedy service & you will have to hound him unfortunately. read more
