    Salmon Eggs Benedict

Ok, hold up, this pub has legit good food. Grading on a curve or not, we really enjoyed our meal. - Ploughman: A shareable dish with 3 types of meat (that day it was duck prosciutto, sausage and ham), 2 types of cheese (blue and cheddar), veggie scotch egg, homemade jams (prune), house pickles, and grilled bread. So yeah, hearty. Standouts were the veggie scotch egg (interesting taste), sausage (properly smoky), and the prune jam (really fresh). Not a fan of the duck prosciutto, though kudos for trying to elevste the dish. - Salmon Eggs Benny: Generous serving of salmon (which was fresh enough), benny done well (chewy but not overly so), spinach a bit limp, good cut on the fries. We added a side aioli to dip the fries in. - Pecan Pie with Toffee Icecream: Homemade icecream was not overly sweet, so it complemented the pie well. Super generous amount of pecan. The star to me was the crust, which they infused heavily with cinnamon. Food was a bit pricey, but isn't everything these days? Obadiah (who's the head chef) took over in 2021 and out his stamp on this place in a spirited way. The pub itself is ultra British looking and has a laid back vibe. Will be back to try their hot honey wings and buck-a-shuck on Tuesdays!

Loved it here. The ambiance was beautiful, the drinks and food were amazing and my server was so kind she brought me extra bread when I ran out (I ordered the avocado bruschetta). It's perfect for date night. We have an Irish pub local to use in Long Beach, CA and this is like the upgraded version of that.

Had mussels in cream sauce - just to die for. Had cheeseburger as well - pretty legit. Craft beer is great. Would come back for the mussels.

    Ugly, unsafe, with uncomfrtble seating.

Went for drinks on patio. The waiter said they have been taken over by a larger company and that why prices went up. Crazy. cheapest beer was $10 but average $13. So you can imagine the prices of the wine. And all this to sit on cheap patio furniture on the street they made no effort to make it safe to sit or nice. Although the waiter was nice I would give this a pass.

2.5 star Don't sit outside on Auld Spot Pub's Patio on the day before Garbage Pick Up Day! Drinking beer and smelling garbage from bins that were not covered up properly was not the most "wonderful" experience. I was lucky though in a way that the beer I ordered was available... so no complaints here. And the waitress was friendly enough...

Gord and I had supper this evening at the Auld Spot Pub. They have a good selection of craft beer on tap. I ordered Chicken Drummies with honey hot sauce. They were okay. The sauce was sweet and had a bit of a bite. Gord ordered Mac 'n Cheese. He said it was good. As he was eating it, though, he said that there was no bacon. So we asked our server about it and he said there should be thick chunks of bacon in it. Apparently the cook forgot to put it in. He knocked off $3 from Gord's meal and gave him a free beer.

This is a really below average place on the danforth. In some other neighborhood it would be ok, but on the danforth the competition is tough and this place does not live up to it. The place itself is very small and it gets inexplicably crowded, since it is not that good. I am guessing people who don't live in the neighborhood (I do). Tables are too close together so when it is full, you elbow the person next to you, and forget about hanging your parka on the back of the chair. It is also very loud. Can't hear the person on the other side of the table. The food is below average (for the Danforth). Drummettes (their specialty apparently) are jus fried chicken with some unidentifiable sauce, lukewarm and not appetizing. Shrimp cakes taste like cardboard. You can't have below average shrimp cakes on the danforth with all the amazing Greek places around. The beer selection was good, but not as good as Louis Cipher up the street or the Fiddle (which both have more space and don't feel claustrophobic). The service starts with a forced politeness mixed with aggressiveness and ends nowhere to be found. If this place was in a neighborhood with less amazing restaurants - it would be ok. On the Danforth it's outright bad.

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. I mistakenly came upon Town Crier Pub due to some marketing miscommunication on my part. I saw a lovely lunch special sidewalk sign and thought it was for them, but it was actually for the restaurant next door! However, I was already committed, and I always loved pubbing. Opened in early 2011, it was named after the historical role of town criers who served as the primary news source in medieval times. With the general theme of Belgian and German styles, its owners believed that European beers and news were linked. Would I be crying in my beer at this pub for entering the incorrect eatery in this town!? PURCHASE(S) Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold Lager Beer 5.5% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.50CAD): Golden amber color, aromatic malty aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and malty aftertaste. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=Oks3ELRLtUfkwpMwMfZ7YQ Town Crier Burger + Add Cheese ($17.00CAD + $2.00CAD): A simple burger made with prime rib beef patty, lettuce, pickle, red onion, and tomato on a lightly-grilled bun with an added slice of cheddar cheese, it was a sizable burger and did the job, but there wasn't anything special about it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=XV6Yy6lwP5yngWkIFicroA [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 3.5 of 5.0 STARS] Substitute Onion Rings ($3.00CAD): A good side portion with many rings of generally uniform size, these were hot, lightly golden browned, semi-crunchy, and had a tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) pulled out at times. Although they were somewhat oily, they were good, and didn't come with any dipping sauce. Innis & Gunn Mangoes On The Run Fruited IPA Beer 5.0% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.00CAD): Dark strawberry color, fruity mango tropical aroma, low body, fruity hoppy mango sweet flavor, smooth finish, and slight bitter fruity mango tropical aftertaste. This was my favorite of the two for obvious reasons! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=_MZhEukjAcdC0Qfo4P2Kaw SERVICE I was happily greeted by a young host outside on the sidewalk who then directed me to a nice outdoor patio table perfect for people watching and the weather. He handed me a massive menu, supplied a glass of water, and soon enough I placed my order. My beers arrived quickly while the food took about ten minutes. He checked in often while we chatted throughout the time. It was a cool hang out for lunch - danke! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was in the area all day for the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Otherwise, there were spots along the main drag of John St. and all surrounding streets, some nearby structures, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A cozy snug layout throughout, inside had a loungey warm feeling with a focal bar with a few stools https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=LZIKI_6GFVgLIPXXkbrICA and many closed-in tables; whereas, the outside patio was less formal but equally compact. Inside was very ornate of Belgian and German styles, while outside was casual and simple. Minimal natural lighting entered inside through the few windows and door opening and of course plenty outside while dim electric ceiling and table lights filled in both areas. There were no TVs nor any background music because chatter was everywhere. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=bYpvTBTNnDqaLvrEqNtYtA ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Town Crier Pub had me laughing, talking, and people watching for a relaxing afternoon and would gladly return. The number of beers available both on tap and in bottles was insane and I loved it! The food menu was expansive. The food was fine but nothing special, and the prices were relatively comparable. But, it was the service and staff that literally reeled me in for a good time. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $50.00CAD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... We've never had British food, so this was definitely a unique experience. The ambiance was very mysterious, with the dim lighting and wooden decor. We ordered a steak pie, along with a tofu and eggplant Thai curry. They were both very delicious and filling.
