I came into this dealer with high hopes. I'd been shopping around for a used Prius and they were…read moreselling a 2004 with 200k miles and a recently refurbished hybrid battery. The price was right, the car was in good shape and I was ready to buy. The owner of the place initially didn't want to accept credit card as a payment, but after some persistence he agreed to make the sale as long as I brought some part in cash. A day later I returned with cash ready to make the sale. This is when things took a turn for the worse. We had agreed on a price, he ran my CC and then began to print out a series of documents for me to sign. INSTEAD OF BLINDLY SIGNING EACH OF THEM, I read through each one and learned California had a law that required used auto dealers to provide a 48 hour return policy. "Consumers who purchase a used car for less than $40,000 must be offered a two-day contract cancellation option agreement." He told me to sign where it said to refuse the policy, but I said I'd actually like the policy. He started pointing to various boxes and quoting me 5x the cost for the policy, adding up various boxes that clearly had nothing to do with the $75 cost of the policy. He then began to say that these 48-hour used car policies only worked for cars over 5,000 and again I showed him on the document where there was a price option for cars less than $5,000. HE WAS STRAIGHT UP LYING IN MULTIPLE WAYS. He became visibly agitated and began raising his voice and telling me he wasn't going to offer this option "for this piece of shit car". This is the second time he tried to use raising his voice and being intimidating for me to make a decision I didn't want. LYING, NOT FOLLOWING THE LAW, INSULTING AND COMPLAINING TO CUSTOMER about their perfectly legal rights and then pretending to not know about them is unacceptable. I 100% wanted the car, and had no intention of returning it. However, if there is a 48-hour option to learn about a used car that the state of California offers consumers, I am going to take that option and no amount of avoiding and straight out lying to me will change my mind. He proceeded to express his anger with me for "wasting his time" cause he could have been working, and I reminded him that HE WAS THE ONE BACKING OUT OF THE DEAL and he was legally in the wrong. I'm over this car and this place. BEWARE OF ALL THE DETAILS in dealing with the owner. He is angry and is NOT on your side.
