Great night with friends listening to music by Most Wanted on the patio. There were about a dozen of us that had dinner before the music started inside the resturant. My husband and I split a philly cheesesteak sandwich and fries. The sandwich was huge and a good size portion of fries. It was good, served with provolone, peppers, onions and mushrooms. Since it was Detby week several large parties came in after the races so service was a bit slow but all in all our server did a great job taking care of the crowd. We all brought chairs to sit on the patio to listen to the great 70s and 80s cover band Most Wanted. It was a beautiful night, with good food, great company and fabulous music. There is a parking lot but if it's full, there is a bank across the street and a car wash next store where you can park. read more

18 of us reserved on a very rainy Thursday for early lunch. We came in right behind a group of 10, mentioning they had also reserved. Nobody to greet us. No tables ready for us. Drink orders. Appears one waitress for both parties. Over one hour later, one of us gets her side salad. Why sooo long for that. No staff interaction. . No checking on us or letting us know status. Other group has their Togo boxes and we're still waiting on any movement of food to our table. It's a shame better mgmt and planning didnt go into our visit to your restaurant. The food was good and hot. Burgers ok, fish big, loved the broccoli salad, nice entree salad, delish chicken salad. Not a fan of the pasty, overly cheesy grits. Birthday cookie given, looked delish, hard as a rock....overwarmed I guess!! And of course, 20% added for our group. We always overtip for good service. And we did this time also. She did the best she knew how. By herself. Although interaction and communication would have helped. Some of us drove 30, 40 miles to eat here. We go out every month. I ventured out to The B.A. Colonial for lunch (plus a local business shopping day). It was a busy time and the staff were hopping from table to table. We were well taken care of. My husband ordered buffalo cauliflower. It was cooked perfectly and not overly drowned in sauce. Huge order too! He was so happy. I got the BLT with a side of fries - so many fries, and dropped hot. The tomato in the BLT was fresh. Plenty of bacon - next time I'd request it a bit crispier. The interior of the building is quite large, plus several seats at the bar. During nicer weather a large patio shares space with other restaurants. A private lot is also available. Live music is often featured. I also spotted a night for bunco. Great service from Tristia and Kelsey two super friendly bartenders Premium cocktails especially my many favorite bourbons, wines, drafts and bottle beers. We had tasty appetizers at the bar of tots and pretzel tots. Along with old Drinks of Old Forester, white Zinfandel, ice cold Miller draft. Fantastic communal patio to four different restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. We picked this spot since it was really close to the Iroquois Ampitheater, and the exterior of the building is very stately. It was pretty busy on a Thursday night, but we got seated and served quickly. I opted for the chicken salad sandwich (without the bread), and regretted the order as soon as it came out of my mouth. What bar-style restaurant does a good chicken salad? Well, this one, apparently. It was not overly dressed in mayo, there was a good ratio of pecans, and the chicken was tender and fresh. 10/10. The portion was slightly on the smaller side for the cost, but I'd still order it again. I also got a side of tots, and they were crispy and salty without being overly oily. My only reservation was the pricing, as some items were strangely high -- an order of boneless nugs was more expensive than their burger. It's certainly a spacious spot for a group of friends and being directly across the street from Iroquois makes it especially convenient on event nights, especially with the surrounding street parking. read more

I love BA colonial for lunch and dinner. We decided today to try the brunch that had been previously cancelled. Well, brunch is back but the quality wasn't. We order waffles, country ham, a burrito and a chicken biscuit. The waffle and ham was good; the other items however were lacking. The chicken biscuit was incredibly tough and couldn't cut through it. The biscuit itself was almost underdone. The burrito was HUGE and my partner loved it. For me, it lacked seasoning. The BA Colonial Brunch! We had a great experience for our first time at BA for Sunday brunch. We arrived a little after 10 AM and it wasn't very busy yet. We were seated promptly. The menu is not overwhelming so we had our order decided by the time the server came to get our drink orders. I got the BA Breakfast with bacon, eggs over medium and wheat toast. My spouse got The Zoo breakfast burrito. Our food was brought out nice and hot and in a timely manor. It looked and smelled great, couldn't wait to dig in. We were surprised by the size of The Zoo. We could have easily split it and both been full. My breakfast was great, eggs were perfect. The home fries were crispy and flavorful. I snuck a bite of the burrito and man was it loaded with everything you'd want in a breakfast burrito. The sauce over it was so good I could have eaten it with a spoon. We took enough home for another meal. Our server was warm and efficient. Our bill was $33 for our meals and drinks. I thought it was comparable to similar brunch menus and a fair price for the quality. My only disappointment was that hot tea isn't available. Coffee was good though. We will definitely be back. Goodness....where to begin! We ate lunch inside the restaurant and placed an order to go as we were preparing to leave. I think it's the mark of a great restaurant when your food inside the restaurant rivals your take out order! Both were amazing! The service was outstanding and our server was top notch! Group of 6 for a dinner reservation at 5 PM on a Saturday evening. We come here before shows across the street at the Iroquois Ampitheater, but we allow plenty of time, at least 2 hours. This allows us to park before it's crowded, have a leisurely beer or cocktail, and get our food order in before the kitchen gets slammed. Even so, we cut it very close on this visit because a few in our party decided to order dessert. The kitchen was prioritizing delivering entrees to customers, so even getting a slice of pie was a major ordeal at that point in the evening. Our server was WONDERFUL! She was kind, polite, and working like a champ. I doubled my tip because she deserved it after having to run interference between customers and the kitchen. Also, one of the guys who delivered food to our table was crabby and she tried to assist him with placing plates. We witnessed him being a bit of a passive aggressive jerk and she kept her composure. Food is standard American fare and pretty good. No complaints from anyone in our group ever. It would be nice if management staffed a full kitchen and service crew on evenings that events are scheduled at the Ampitheater. We WANT to give you our money! :) read more

We went here for burger week. Plenty of places to sit but we chose the bar. I had an issue with my salad and our server (also the bartender) took care of it immediately. The burger was good- I like a crispy smash burger. We were given a BW drink and loved it so much we ordered another! The B.A. Colonial is in the historic Colonial Gardens building, but it is well updated and modern. The menu is full of classic American items but it's all pretty good! Service is also good. There's a great patio too. Andddd there's a venue space upstairs! Additionally, B.A. does all sorts of cool stuff. Just this week, they're going a fundraiser with decor their customers painted for Derby, and if you took in a ticket from Churchill Downs yesterday, you could get a free old fashioned. They are super involved in the community and doing lots of engaging things, which makes it a five star for me! read more

A weekday visit to the B.A. Colonial for lunch with an eleven percent discount for seniors from 11-5 pm Monday- Friday proved fruitful. We both chose the B.A. Colonial Burger with fries. They do offer a good burger and the shoestring fries are not greasy. Service was very good and parking was plentiful on a Wednesday. Great local spot for a Sunday brunch! The menu has classic americana offerings for brunch/lunch/dinner. We chose traditional brunch items including the BA breakfast plate (?) which was a lot of food! Everything was delicious! The service was great! We opted for inside seating but, there is also patio seating. Inside has mid-size TVs with a variety of sports televised. Located in the Historic Colonial Gardens sits the (in my opinion underrated) B.A. Colonial. This sits next to Union 15 Pizza and as of now the only 2 restaurants in Colonial Gardens w/ Biscuit Belly and Taco Luchador gone. There is outdoor seating, inside and bar seating. I came here for Louisville Burger Week because I have never visited this establishment. What a perfect time I picked to visit. It was a slow time of the day and it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be for Burger week. Inside is very spacious and there is upstairs seating but I didn't go up there. I opted to sit at the bar and ordered their burger week burger w/ a water and Jack Daniels (for extra points). I love how it looks like a Steakburger and not just a regular burger. The fries were very well cooked and tasty. This was my favorite stop for burger week, and I do intend on returning and supporting this local establishment. Why I sat on this so long idk. I encourage anyone who hasn't been here to give this place a try and keep Colonial Gardens alive. I do send my love to Union 15 as well. Went to lunch at the B.A. Colonial with co-workers. It's a large restaurant and we were given a large 10 top table. Nice and open floor plan and ambiance. We started with hush puppies and fried pickles as appetizers. The fried pickles were sweet and delicious. The dipping sauce was also perfect. The hush puppies came with six large pieces and fried to perfection. The menu is very eclectic with wings, baked potatoes, fish, sandwiches, salads and grilled cheese and tomato soup. Unfortunately they were out of several items but it helped narrow down what I was ordered. I ended up getting the fried chicken sandwich with fries. It was okay - only had lettuce on the sandwich so kind of plain. The fries were good but nothing special. They had a kids menu and will probably be back with the kids sometime to have something different. read more

This is a nice neighborhood spot for me and my partner. They have a great breakfast, and I really enjoy the fish and chips with hushpuppies. We went here on a busier day last week and the experience was so different then normal and off putting. Our waitress came once to ask for drinks and another time to ask for our entree. Our food was dropped off by someone else and the waitress did not come back for around an hour. I had to drop by the kitchen to ask for lemons and tartar sauce. Eventually she came back to our table to ask if my fiance wanted some water after he just got a beer from the nice lady who dropped off the lemons. My water was empty and that's all I was drinking because I am pregnant and she didn't offer a refill. Our check was then dropped off by an entirely different waitress who noticed we had been done a long time. As a person who works in the service industry I find this level of service to 100% miss the mark. I hope it improves because I enjoy having someplace as nice as BA in the neighborhood and want the best for their success. read more

I went to BA Colonial with a friend for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I liked it so much that I brought my family back the next weekend for brunch. I love the highlighting of Louisville area history. It's a beautiful spot, and back when there was a dance hall, it was a favorite of my grandparents. The food is all delicious. Nothing too fussy, but very tasty. The value for the money is exceptional. Brunch for 5 with tip was only $80. Can't wait until it is warm to enjoy the courtyard! Well this si Bar food the Philly cheesesteak sandwich would definitely given it a 5star review and the Ribeye looked to be spot on too but the frozen patty burgers the supermarket fried and tater tots along with the slow and not great service just doesn't command the price or the food the atmosphere is what you expect for a college town bar on the low end. Terrible service by overworked bartender. Had to continuously ask for items and we were ignored a few times and then given extra of what we asked for which felt a little passive aggressive. Burger was a dry charcoal roasted puck. NEVER asked if we would like it taken off the bill and just counting it as a loss at this point since it is burger week. Won't be back which is too bad because I love the POSSIBLE veteran aspect. I'll support a vet every time but not when you have a nasty server. I decided to try the B.A. Colonial. I had the mushroom Swiss Burger and fries! The burger was good and the fries were hot. The decor was friendly and nostalgic. Flowers on every table. The waiter was nice and attentive. The jalapeño poppers were burnt looking when they brought them out, but did not taste burnt and they were actually good. Yummy! My husband and I decided to give the B.A. Colonial a shot on a snowy Sunday. My husband came once with his dad back when they first opened and you had to order at the bar. I'm happy to say they have table service now! There is a variety of food here - oysters, sandwiches, burgers, salads - something for everyone. I chose the fish and fries and got an extra side of their broccoli salad to try. My husband tried the wings and the pulled pork sandwich. Everything came out relatively quickly, hot and fresh. My fish was perfectly fried and not too heavy and the fries were ideal - super thin and crispy. The broccoli salad was delicious and a generous portion. An absolute must try! The aesthetic is nice with lots of seating indoor and outdoor. When we went it was pretty empty. The buffalo cauliflower was good, deviled eggs were ok. The wings were middle of the road, really good size but not a lot of flavor. Had a double smash burger and I don't know what they had against the cow, but they cooked the burgers to hockey puck color. Very disappointed in that, added some pickles to make it a little better. My wife still doesn't know if the Bloody Mary had alcohol in it or not, felt like $9 for Bloody Mary mix Service was decent Won't be back but didn't hate the place. During a recent stay in Louisville near Iroquois Park, I was looking for a more fancier type sports bar. B.A. Colonial was what I was looking for as it was right across the park, with TVs, and a menu with wings and sandwiches to satisfy this sports fan. I started off with Fried Pickles and these Pickles were some of the best I ever had. The batter had a good mix of seasonings, the Pickles were sweet and spicy, and the B.A. sauce was the perfect dipping component. I would order these Pickles again in a heartbeat. I definitely wanted wings and I was hooked when the menu says the wings were brined in sweet tea. I definitely had to try. I chose White BBQ sauce and Sweet Chili Teriyaki. The wings by themselves did not disappoint. They were as advertised with the sweet tea aspect. But the sauces fell flat. The white BBQ sauce was the best and it had that peppery Zing to it. The Sweet Chili Teriyaki had little flavor. It needed some kick. The ranch dressing though was homemade and made up for it. My girlfriend got the boneless wings. They were not made from sweet tea but was dipped in buttermilk. They had a good taste as well. But the House BBQ sauce also fell flat. It was a mild, bland thin tomato sauce and for boneless wings, it needs to be thicker. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! The waitress went out of her way to make sure I had to correct game to watch. The wing sauces were disappointing overall but not bad. I would return to B.A. Colonial again the next time I'm in the area. read more

We were in need of a place to kill time before an event at Iroquois Park. Luckily, the B.A Colonial was literally right across the street, so it made for the perfect place. This was my first time visiting the Colonial Gardens. I honestly couldn't believe how nice it was! The surrounding area has felt stagnant for a while now, so this place has really given some life to it. This bar is a nice hangout spot, we didn't eat here but did grab some drinks, and they have a nice variety on draft to choose from. We accidentally crashed the upstairs event space, however the bartenders were very friendly and let us hang out up there before the next event started... A lot of really nice couches and lounge chairs all over! This is a lovely spot that I would love to come back to one day. read more

What a great place! This is close by me and I hadn't been, but decided to stop by before the UofL game for brunch. Great choice. Super laid back location, and very friendly and fun staff. The decor is like vintage photos and decorations, which I find cool. Food was American based, simple but delicious. I've been three times in a couple month span due to the quick and easiness, and combination of breakfast, dinner, and even beer/drinks. I placed the order at noon for pickup at 1:00pm on the B.A. Colonial's website. I went on my lunch break at work to pickup 5 people's orders including mine. When they finally brought the order out to me at 1:30, my order was missing. So they had to make my burger which took an additional 10 minutes. When I got the food back to work, everyone's food was cold at this point. The lettuce on my burger was also disgusting looking so I took it off. I was very disappointed with this experience- especially since I was the one that recommended to my co-workers that we order food from the B.A. Colonial! read more

Nice atmosphere, excellent wait staff, horrible kitchen, sub-par food. It's a fun place to hang out if you're not too hungry - trust me, just stick to the apps. Food is low quality and overpriced. The kitchen didn't even send out the correct burger for my wife. Mushroom Swiss is not a blue cheese burger. Our waitress did handle it very well and did provide overall excellent service.
