Came here to see a live acoustic performance for Danny Sharpe and Jackson James. Great performance (5 out of 5 stars) Upon arrival I had to find my own seating and wait awhile to actually get a server. Server was forgetful on several of the things that were requested. Also the menu is outdated and many of the things we all wanted were no longer being sold. The alcoholic drinks were very weak and the food was bland and cold. Honestly, I came just for the live music and the music was great. It seemed like I was the only one tipping the awesome performers and to be completely honest, I would have rather given the money I spent on food and drinks to them. The back porch has many live performances it seemed liked almost every week. I would come back for only the live music and to have a couple beers while supporting local talent. Live Acoustic performance with Danny shape and Jackson James from east texas brought me here, (10/10) performance! Upon arrival I had to find my way to a table (open seating) without any staff assistance. When I finally found an open table a server approached and he was very friendly and attentive ! Many of the items on the menu were no longer available due to an outdated menu. I struggled finding what to order. Food was cold and flavorless. Unfortunately I ended up ordering a quesadilla and it was bland, Cheese had no taste and chicken no flavor. My blended drink was all ice and sadly my fountain soda was flat as well. After ordering a virgin Bloody Mary, we were charged full price for an alcoholic drink. When we asked if that was the correct price, the waiter said yes that they charge the same price for alcohol and non alcoholic drinks. We were even charged alcohol tax. The waiter brought us extra ranch dressing even though we didn't ask for it and then charged us for the extra ranch. Our main dishes were mediocre at best. My chipotle chicken sandwich was bland with tough chicken, a rotten avocado and slimy cheese. My husband's BLT was dripping in butter or oil. I had to ask repeatedly for refills on my tea and only got 1 refill the entire time. The only saving grace was their fried pickle appetizer which was very good! Great venue it would seem. Food was mostly good. Philly sandwich was sloppy as it should be. Fries looked deliciously browned but were cold. I asked for a cheese (not chicken) quesadilla and was easily accommodated (though I was charged full price). It was good. Not greasy at all. Jalapeño's I asked for and salsa were a bit salty though. We had an excellent meal here. They have pinto beans in a pot up front that are available to all for no extra charge that are so delicious. I had the pick 3 platter which included salad, chili, and homemade chicken salad, all were delicious. My FIL had gone on a senior trip to the Kilgore Museum, and they stopped at The Back Porch. He raved about it. While we were at Atwoods we decided to try it. I was surprised by the place. Hard booths all brown. I guess I expected more of a granny porch. Plants everywhere, and homey flowery curtains, or cushions, and it was actually small. We grabbed a table booth. Server came right over with menus and took our drink orders. We were also told about the complimentary beans and hush puppies at the front area. Hubby grabbed some and I tasted tested them. Beans were yummy! hush puppies were good, but you could tell they were not homemade. Now its been a week since we were there so I will try my best to remember who ate what. I remember mine was the grilled chicken baked potato, with butter on the side. It was good. Could have had more chicken maybe shredded instead of chopped up piece of breast. Greeted by friendly staff who directed us to sit at the table of our choice. Restaurant is open for dine in which was nice since we haven't been out to eat for almost two months due to COVID. Even though it was Mother's Day, there was plenty of seating and the staff were on point. Our drinks, appetizer, and food came out quickly. Food was very tasty and good quality. Just okay place to go....not much in Kilgore so this is pretty much the place to go! Appetizers are good--tried chips and Queso and Pork Rinds. Beer is cold and they have drink specials. I've grown up in Kilgore and have been going to the Back Porch for years. Several years ago, they had a remodel from the old setup. Now they have the restaurant and the sports bar area. This makes for a great place to go to on the weekends. On a Friday/Saturday night, there is usually a live band playing (although sometimes way too loud). The drinks are well priced and the food is punctual. Overall, I will continue to visit this place and would recommend it to anyone. read more

We showed up with a big group and we're served tall beers and app's immediately. The food was excellent. I got the farmhouse burger, my kids devoured the queso, fries, and grilled cheese. My mother in law had the fried chicken sandwich (great), and my father in law had the crispy chicken salad (great). Our friends had a variety of burgers and wraps and everyone was left fat and happy. Met friends there to watch a Blues band play. I ordered a Chili burger and Onion Rings. The order didn't take too long to arrive but instead of Onion Rings it had (slimy undercooked) fries. Waitress said she'd take care of it... 3 times and 30 minutes later when she finally brought them to the table they were burnt to a crisp all the way through... inedible. I just had her take them away. As for the burger, it was the only chili burger I can ever remember eating that was dry. I ate as much of it as I wanted but it could have been much better. I don't know what in Zeus's beard happened today...my wife and I have been coming here since February and have never experienced what we experienced today. I want to preface this review first by saying that our server, River, kicked ass and this is no way his fault. We brought my mother and father from out of town here for lunch around noon. Was told there was a 20 minute wait because the place was flipping packed. Not a problem, the place was packed. We were seated in 5 minutes. So far so good. The table that we were lead to was destroyed with food bits, used napkins ranch cups and straw wrappers. The hostess left us and came back to wipe it down and we took our seats. We were given 2 menus for five people. When we asked for some more menus we were informed that they had run out and that we would need to share..... 10 min goes by and our server River appears and takes our drink order and returns a couple of minutes later to take our order. Grilled cheese with a side of Mac and cheese. 2 chili burgers, open faced. A patty melt and potato skins. After about 45 minutes we asked River if there was an ETA on our food. He stated that he would check. He came back and apologized and informed us that the kitchen was very backed up and he was not sure how long it would be. He also said that this was his second day and he was sorry for the delay. We let him know that it was not his fault and we understood. 15 minutes later River comes back and apologizes again and said that the kitchen was running out of food and he thinks that our food will be out in the next 10 minutes. 10 minutes later we receive our food.... I think it was a chili burger, not open faced, less than a table spoon of chili with an over cooked dried out patty. Looked absolutely disgusting. See picture. We also received a grilled cheese sandwich with jalapeños, bacon, 2 types of unmelted cheese and tomatoes... no idea where that came from......and a cup of granular texture "Mac and cheese". 10 minutes later we received the potato skins. 5 minutes later we were served the patty melt. I went to the counter to get our silverware rolls. My wife is allergic to animal protein and could not eat the "grilled cheese" with bacon on it and asked for a regular grilled cheese. The sandwich was left at the table and a half assed grilled cheese sandwich graced our table 5 minutes later. Half assed in the melted department. Again, looked very unappetizing. I took one bite of my chili burger and decided to call it quits. Could not do it. Asked for it to be removed from our check and sent it back. We asked for the check to be split between the two parties. We received 3 checks. River had to place a separate order for the revamped grilled cheese and then had the check for rest of the order. We gave him two credit cards and he returned with our receipts to sign. All of the checks had my mothers name and card number on them so went up to figure out what had happened. We had to get the manager involved and she printed out new checks and handed them to me. They did not add up. I asked her to recalculate the check. Buttons were pushed and I guess it was figured out. I sign and we leave bewildered. Got home and my mother and I start talking and comparing tabs. Come to find out we paid the full tab... twice.... will be going back to figure it out. Again, I don't know what in the hell happened there today but someone needs to manage the kitchen and waitstaff team a hell of a lot better in the future. read more

First time here with a small group. Service was ok until it became obvious that our food order was delayed. Then the avoidance factor kicked in. When we finally got our food it was warm to almost cold., which was odd considering how long we waited. Burger could have been delicious, bison burger could have been delicious, cold jalapeño poppers and onion rings could have been really good if hot.
