My momma was excited to see this place in Ruidoso. She said it's one of her favorite places to eat at in Temple, TX. She had my mouth watering talking about brisket quesadillas and brisket baked potatoes. It was a little disappointing they didn't have these items, but they did have great BBQ, a good amount of seating, and patio dining with a beautiful view. Mom ordered a pulled pork sandwich, Pops got a sliced brisket sandwich, and my little buddy and I shared half a smoked chicken, chopped brisket, mac and cheese, and corn on the cob. The chopped brisket was definitely the star item on the table. My little buddy usually dislikes any kind of good gourmet mac and cheese, but he ate the whole bowl. The chicken was also really good. I loved the smoked flavor it had. The service was good and the food came out really quick. I think they should add some really good rolls and maybe four or five unique items to their menu. read more

Stopped in the new brick and mortar location across from walmart in Ruidoso Downs. Excellent food, service and outstanding view from the back patio. Pork belly burnt ends were great and the Brisket and ribs were tasty as well. Nice new addition to the options for eating out in Ruidoso. read more

I prefer Dickeys BBQ in Dallas. The BBQ brisket was too salty and peppery. They offer only one sauce and it tastes like vinegar and not BBQ sauce. The corn muffin was the best part of the meal and the music. I would say you can find better BBQ and skip this place. read more

Drove from Las Cruces to Ruidoso to escape the heat and checkout The Backyard BBQ & Grill. It was well worth the drive! We sat on the back deck, with a scenic view and gentle breeze. Our server Jorah was exceptional. She answered questions about the menu, got our drinks and food in record time. She came by numerous times to make sure everything was okay and if we needed anything. The Brisket, Ribs and Pulled Pork were delicious. The Potato Casserole and Mac and Cheese were some of the best sides ever. We would highly recommend the Backyard BBQ & Grill to family and friends. Sooo disappointed!! There is no kids menu. My 5 yo grand daughter got the $12.49 6oz cheeseburger and then wouldn't eat it because it was too "spicy". Her Mac & cheese was awful as it had NO flavor. I got the 2 meat (rib & brisket) plate as pictured; it cost $17.49. I got 1 rib (the waitress assured me it weighed 4 ounces) it was not 'fall off the bone' tender and I think the bone in it weighed 2+ ounces. I got 1 decent slice of brisket and 2 slivers of very dry brisket; again the waitress assured me it weighed 4 ounces. For my sides I ordered the potato casserole and green beans. The potato casserole was just potato salad that had been heated up. It tasted better once it got cold. The green beans were the best part of the entire meal. My daughter got the chicken but it was near raw at the joints. We got 3 teas each one was $2.79 although my grand daughters was in a small clear cup that was less than 1/2 the size of the other 2. The menu pictured here on Yelp is outdated and prices are much higher than that now. Will not return. read more

This was the WORST BBQ place I've ever been to. If you actually want good BBQ food in Ruidoso go to Cattle Baron or The Broken Arrow Tap House. Do NOT let the online pictures fool you like they did for me and my family. None of the dishes looked that good in person or even came with that much food. The parking lot as well as the restaurant was empty for a reason. Those were 2 big red flags that I let slide and immediately regretted it. Cons: -The chairs are super uncomfortable with 0 cushion. The booths are just flat wood with 0 cushion. The chairs are made out of metal with 0 cushion so it feels like you're sitting on a block of ice. -The waitress seated my family of 5 at a table with only 4 seats. -The waitress didn't ask me for my beverage and showed up with some random drink for me that I didn't even ask for. -The waitress got all our orders mixed up where some people were missing sides or they were placed on someone else's plate. -The waitress didn't offer any refills or ask how we were doing. -The food was horrendous. Even McDonald's would have been a better choice. -The pulled pork wasn't pulled apart. I was eating blocks of pork. It was extremely flavorless and rubbery like it was overcooked in a microwave. There's no way any of this food was slow cooked on a smoker by a real chef. -There were only kids working there so I wouldn't be surprised if they were making the food. -The brisket was flavorless, rubbery, lots of fat/connective tissue and clearly wasn't slow cooked on a smoker. -The pork ribs I asked for were flavorless and literally 90% bone. -I'm convinced a lot of the meats were cooked/heated in a microwave. -The coleslaw was the worst coleslaw I've ever eaten. It was literally 100% red cabbage and super sour. -The corn on the cob literally tasted like dirt where it clearly wasn't washed/cleaned. It had a lot of corn silk (hairs) still attached to it. It was also semi under cooked in certain areas so it was still raw and hard. -They put most of the meats and sides inside these giant white cups similar to what you'd see at a KFC. But they were only filled up half way or even less then half which is pathetic. -The BBQ sauce they had on the table was super sour like it had lime juice in it. Put some brown sugar in it Jesus Christ. -The portion size vs the price is a rip off. They purposely show a lot more food in the online pictures then what you're actually given in person. In the online pictures you're probably given 60% more food. They're clearly cutting corners because the place isn't doing well. I don't even think they have a highly qualified chef working here. -I highly recommend The Broken Arrow Tap House's BBQ Platter over this place's 3 meat dish. It's amazing how a TAP house whose primary focus is selling alcoholic beverages has a better BBQ plate then a BBQ restaurant. -What's really sad is they had a truck in the parking lot advertising that they're the "BEST BBQ" in town. Do NOT let this fool you. It's false advertising. Pros: -The corn bread was actually good. -The interior design looked nice with the animal trophies mounted on the walls. -The complimentary onions slices and pickle slices were better then anything served on their "3 meat platter" dish. Overall, It was a terrible experience. I will never come back to this place nor would I recommend it to anyone I know. I wouldn't be surprised if they go bankrupt by the end of the year. read more

Definitely order the sliced brisket!! You can tell it's just good old Texas bbq. The sauce is a hit also. Ribs not bad. Tried the beans and Mac and cheese as sides, could do without the Mac. All in all nice to find decent bbq in the mountains! read more

Not worth visiting. We ordered 2 BBQ sandwiches & 2 sides. After paying $21+ we drove away, only to open the bag and find 2 cold sandwiches consisting of meat and bun. Nothing else. No pickles, onions, napkins, forks or spoons. They did provide 1 tiny cups with a tablespoon of cold BBQ sauce, no doubt poured from a bottle. Never again. read more

Our first two attempts to order for pick up did not go through. No one answered the phone. On our third try, we placed a simple order for five people. To be frank, the food tasted average, but not worth what the sandwiches cost - $66! Our order was five sandwiches with a side for each sandwich. After waiting in the store for fifteen minutes to pick up our order, we were missing one sandwich which we waited an additional ten minutes to receive. This was before we paid. What we finally received after driving home was 5 sandwiches with very little brisket and not one side included with any to-go container. Also, the buns we were given were small and hard as a rock. We have to say this place has a long way to go for food quality and quantity. The customer service was embarrassing for us, the customers, to watch and be a part of. Relatively new operation and it shows in service delays and food production issues. We were seated quickly but then waited for 20 minutes for a sever to show up and then waited an additional 10 minutes for her to bring the drink order. We placed an order immediately and were the only people on the porch. After 45 minutes we still had no food other than cornbread and two additional tables were seated and ordered. The two tables received their orders before us. When the food finally arrived 3 out of 4 orders had the wrong sides. The sides were tasteless and the potato casserole and the mac and cheese were difficult to tell apart. Three of the burgers were flat out rare and we wouldn't allow or son to eat it. The pulled pork had a good smoke on it but I would have to agree with an earlier comment the portions to price is not in line. Restaurant has a lot of potential, however, if they don't get a handle on the issues they wont be around long. All told it was an expensive inedible experience that added two hours to our trip home. read more
