The bagel itself was overpowering the flavor of anything else. The whipped cream cheese was totally washed out by it. The secondary flavor was the pickled red onions. Although one of my favorite things, it was the only other thing I could taste besides the bagel. Bummer. Service was awesome. My bagel was taking a minute. I'm a breakfast sandwich snob. Sausage egg and cheese all the way. I've tried them all from everywhere and this is hands down the absolute best breakfast sandwich in the southcoast. The sourdough bread, freshly baked, just is amazing. The egg is cooked to perfection, gooey but not runny. And I have had 3 of them in the last month and they are consistent! Top notch. First time at The Baker, I was shocked, from all I have heard about it, that there was no line. I had just gotten lucky! Line started behind me lol The young man taking my order was excellent, very helpful, asked if he didn't know an answer, told me about their bakery. I ordered a build my own breakfast sandwich- I would have gotten linch, but it was before 11, so... Egg, sausage, cheddar, on a croissant, with a side of maple siracha. Lots of other choices, but I opted for simple. (It was great)! They have linguica everything, so I just ordered that in the form of a pretzel cheese roll, with linguica- so good. That was dinner. I ordered an English muffin, biscuit, and cheese roll as well, we haven't tried those, but I am sure they will be delicious as well! Oh, and yes, their coffee was strong, and tasty, and the latte was perfect! The place is on the small side, but has a counter by the window, and a few tables to sit at. It gets busy fast, the line was out the door by the time I left! You can pre-order and they are very organized, so I would say that would be what I will do next time. An INCREDIBLE bakery. Truly something special. Stopped by New Bedford on the way to Martha's Vineyard. My family and I were so delighted to find this gem. By 8:05 there was already a line out the door (for good reason!). I waited in line for about 15 minutes. The bakery is very well run and has markers for social distancing. We picked up the linguica + cheese roll, all butter croissant, chocolate croissant, pecan sticky bun, specialty donut (banana split) and a pumpkin spice latte. Croissants: AMAZING. Beautiful lamination, so airy and buttery. One of the best croissants I've ever had Linguica ("c" pronounced as "s") + cheese roll: popped it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Delicious soft bread rolled with cheese and linguica. My little sister devoured it. Sticky bun: fluffy brioche like bun with the most amazing buttery caramel on top. It went perfectly with the chopped pecans sprinkled on top. Please try! Banana split Specialty donut: lovely, brioche donut with just the right amount of chew. Filled with vanilla cream, bananas and strawberry jam. Very well balanced and the chocolate on the top was delicious. I wish I could come back every weekend just to get the new donut flavor. Really fresh and delicious pastry, everything was incredible food wise. It was super busy and they gave us 2 chocolate croissants instead of 2 chocolate chip cookies, but that's on me for not checking the order before I left. Bottom line though, the food is absolutely amazing. I really love almond croissants, but often have to make my own because they're hard to find. I was excited to see they had them and they're perfect Last week my daughter and I got bacon, egg and cheese on croissants and my fiancé got a cheese danish, they were awesome. I can't imagine only giving this place 5 stars when it deserves 10! Brandon and his staff go above and beyond to provide high quality baked goodies of all kinds to the community of New Bedford and those out of towners like us! We were in the area on vacation this past week and our AirBnB hostesses suggested this place to us. Their comment was that they were hooked. During a lovely chance meeting with a few locals at a diner down the road (one of which just so happened to be Brandon's mom), they also recommended we try The Baker. We showed up the next morning and it was love at first sight! The space was open, airy, and inviting and the service was great. All of the "Lord's carbs" were laid out on the pastry counter and we tried just about everything. The "build your own egg sandwich" was great with an everything bagel, egg, cheese, tomato and arugula and linguica. The coconut macaroons were perfect little bites of heaven as were the apple galettes. My chai latte was spicy in all the right ways and gave me all the fall feels. We enjoyed our visit the first time so much that we had to stop by again on our way out of town. I'm relatively sure I'll be dreaming about The Baker until I can return! read more

I went for the first time today. The food is amazing. We got a ham egg and cheese with avocado on the cheddar and scallion biscuit and it was the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had! We also got some pastries to take home. Coffee was great as well. Everyone working there was so kind and helpful and had great things to say about the available pastries. Fabulous staff and food! Their English muffins are spectacular and the best I've ever had. I had a breakfast sandwich with them--delicious! It was so good that my friends and I decided to come back the following day. Unfortunately they ran out of the English muffins, so I had a breakfast sandwich with their cheddar chive biscuit instead, which was also great. I still prefer the English muffin and would recommend everyone to try it. Their coffee and chocolate chip sea salt cookie was also very tasty. Pastries that rival what I've had at very famous bakeries in major cities. Some of the best bread I've had that transports me to Europe every time I have it. Was in Downtown today and needed to return a library book and get a quick lunch - and low and behold - I spied The Baker right next door to the police station. I had seen "the food porn" photos of their decadent donuts on social media so I was familiar with this place. I took a quick look at their lunch menu but a sign at the register caught my eye - bagel with salmon, pickled onions, capers and cream cheese. They had three fresh bagel selections- plain; everything and Asiago cheese. I went with the cheese bagel but the everything bagel looked equally as tempting. It only took a wink of time before I was handed a basket with the picture perfect lunch - and my first bite did not disappoint! I'm not sure where you can buy a bagel with smoked salmon in the area - this was the best I've ever tasted. The portion of salmon to cream cheese to bagel was perfect! It tasted as delicious as it looked. I also bought one of their humongous linguica cheese rolls to try later - I just could not resist. Today, we had our absolute BEST bakery experience EVER in our lives, seriously. To preface, we LOVE The Baker. We live for the weekly posting of the donut of the week. I drive 55 each way to buy Chef Brandon's treats. This is a weekly routine. Today, hands down, we nearly fainted due to culinary overload. Our senses were sent into outer space. The reason, you ask? Two reason, The Key Lime Donut and the Maki Toast. First, let's start with the donut. This is NO ordinary donut. It's flakey and light and key lime ooze fills the center. KEY LIME FLAKY DONUT! It's filled with a key lime custard, rolled in sugar and topped with meringue & graham crust crumble. What kind of evil genius makes such a delight, really? Ok, we ate ours and ooze dripped all over our faces. My partner got goose bumps eating his. Our tastes buds were exploding. Next came the Maki Toast. This was seriously THE BEST avo toast of my life. Chef Brandon's crew started with sourdough toast "tickled" with garlic, smashed avo, yuzu furikake (Japanese rice seasoning), smoked Atlantic salmon, sweet soy & wasabi peas. Can you even believe this %$#@? One bite and we nearly screamed in food ecstasy. Thankfully, we shared both treats and man, I am feeling pretty darn satisfied, hours later. Pastry is a bit high priced, however considering rent etc I realize they have to make a living. I would definitely return if in the area.
