The only problem I have with this place is that they do not have any gift cards/certificates. They only do e-cards. I wanted to give one as a Christmas gift to someone and I wanted a physical card to give. They really should think about carrying physical gift cards, especially if you're giving one to an older person who is not as tech-savvy as others. I've been here a few times and was always pleased. Today I was sadly underwhelmed. The staff seemed a bit annoyed. Maybe it was the bad weather. I asked for an opinion on what item to get and I felt like a burden. I also ordered a waffle and the response was kind of negative. It was 3, and they close at 4. I politely asked if they were done making waffles for the day and she sighed and was like no. I almost asked to cancel my order at this point, as nothing was being made as of yet. I waited quite a bit for my stuff and any interaction with the staff was kind of negative and harsh. (I swear I'm super nice and friendly!) the waffle and coffee were both underwhelming. I almost changed my review from the previous 5 stars to 3 stars, but am going to hope this was just one poor experience. Not sure if I'll come back again yet or not. For just $10.99, you get a stacked sandwich with turkey, tomatoes, spinach, and twice-melted cheddar, all topped with a tangy cranberry mayo and served on a soft herb mini boule. It comes with your choice of pasta salad or a pickle on the side. (I opted for the pickle as I'm not a pasta salad fan) but I'd come back for this sandwich alone--fresh, sweet, and savory in every bite. I've also tried their chicken Caesar wrap and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Liege waffle on a stick in the past- both worth it. Had the tastiest tuna bacon melt I've ever had! The restaurant is located right past downtown, near several shops & parks, and connected directly to the college. The prices are very reasonable, and your food is made after you order, so it's super fresh. I ate my food so quickly, and the bacon was extra crispy and piping hot (kinda cool considering the fact that the tuna was ice cold). I will definitely be back! read more

Cafe Arpeggio is comfy. You have a nice selection of tables and chairs, it's open, and there's a small sofa to sit on. There are a few neat lamp posts that remind you of an old main street. That's all I've got. I can only compliment the furniture. I went in with my daughter to get some drinks and left pretty disappointed. I ordered my daughter a strawberry smoothie and myself a hot cider. I was told they didn't have it as it wasn't in season. Their menu board is a whiteboard, why not erase it then? Really not difficult, you just take a paper towel or even your finger and just wipe that hot cider option off the board. The server seemed impatient with me when I had to take a moment to make a decision on what I wanted instead. I ended up with a raspberry tea that was nothing special. I could have bought a box of raspberry tea leaves for half the price I paid for one there. My daughter and i both agrees that the smoothie was gross. All the guy did was take a scoop of ice cream and blend it with shaved ice. No fresh/frozen fruit, yogurt, milk, juice, nothing. I don't know if I'd even call it a smoothie. This branch seems to have an almost entirely different personality than the one in Fall River. With more foot traffic and more competition, Cafe Arpeggio in New Bedford seems to have a slightly faster pace and a little less personability. The food is consistent, and good. The atmosphere is mediocre, and could be improved greatly if William Street (which half of the plate glass windows face) were just made a little bit more desirable. Currently, half of the historic cobbled street is either blank walls or non-consumer storefronts that do not draw foot traffic. Purchase street has a lot of great food, and this cafe contributes to the scene well. I spent many nights there working on a project with the city hall just a few blocks away, and the cafe staff, used to students I think, were not bothered at all by long evenings of typing. Free WiFi here is a nice new addition also. read more

A nice little eatery across the street from the popular No Problemo, so it's hard to know how much traffic it gets when the burrito place is open...though it also has the added advantage of being the same building as some of UMass Dartmouth's facilities. When I went this weekend, NP was closed for the Waterfront Festival, so I decided to try the cafe. Playing it safe, I ordered a chicken sandwich to go on pumpernickel. The sandwich that they gave me was the size of a normal sandwich that I'd make at home with generous helpings of white meat chicken between two slices of bread (think When Pigs Fly bread sized bread). But the honey mustard dressing was something else - there was so much of it that it was literally dripping out of the sandwich into the bag. I could have done with a little less of it, I guess. Someone before me ordered a salad and it was GIANT. They have homemade ice cream that I would have tried if I had been not in such a rush. The sandwich was filling, if a little soggy. They also boast a good-sized coffee selection. What I really liked was their reading corner with a big, comfy couch and some donated used books and magazines. Local artists (which New Bedford as a whole is big on) also had their own little corner for business cards. I like a cafe that supports local arts. Prices are normal - I spent $6 for my sandwich, and a lot of the other sandwiches and salads looked comparable. read more

I'd been here once before and don't remember a thing about it, which is never a good sign. I returned the other day just to stop in for a pastry and a drink. Upon walking into the place I was not hit with ambience (even though this place is quite cute) but by the unhappy stare of a worker. I took some time to decide and decided on a raspberry lime ricky and a banana walnut muffin. This was by fay the most terrible raspberry lime rickey i've ever had. First off, she asked if i wanted sprite or soda water. they dumped in some random "red fruit" flavoring. If that was raspberry then i'd be very surprised. They then put in the soda so that all the syrup was at the bottom. Following that was 1 tiny unsqueezed wedge of lime. Just awful. The muffin was also pretty gross. Very dry with not much flavor. You would think that having a cafe in the same place as a college campus would mean it's more convient for the college students and in some cases it is but every time I've gone to Cafe Arpeggio it's been an okay to meh experience. First time I went I took a 9 a.m. class and decided that I needed a smoothie. I don't do coffee so that's my wakeup boost. Here's a suggestion to them on the smoothies. Do not use frozen blueberries to make the smoothies and if you do muddle them first! The straw was constantly clogged up with blueberry skin. I would rather walk over to The Green Bean to grab a smoothie on a break then get a straw full of blueberry peel and pulp. I will say the muffins are good and the sandwiches are okay. Just fix the smoothie making and it's good. read more

A friend was at Cafe Arpeggio yesterday for lunch and picked me up a cranberry orange scone. It was amazing. I was really happy to find/know of a place that really has good scones. I personally feel bad for Cafe Arpeggio. On Purchase street, the competition is way to harsh on Arpeggio. There's The Pour Farm Tavern, the wonderful Spicy Lime, and the one that drives the stake into Cafe Arpeggio, the ever-so-popular No Problemo. But somehow, Cafe Arpeggio seems to stand firm on one of the best streets in downtown. I came to Cafe Arpeggio on an AHA night, meaning about 7:30 on a Thursday, and the place was packed. It's competitor No Problemo wasn't as swamped as this place. There was only a little room for myself to roam around, but I was fine just standing in front of the counter. The place seems to be a hit with all ages. There were families with children in strollers taking part in the U Mass Dartmouth fun. There was a rather elderly singer with his acoustic guitar that made for a lovely undertone to the already loud chitter-chatter. The menu seemed to be pretty extensive, and was average with the pricing. A friend and I ordered a Strawberry and Cherry Italian Soda, which were only $2.50 each. The man who rang us up with out syrup, soda and ice concoctions was pretty nice and I'm pretty sure he gave us a few bucks off. It should have been five dollars, but he only priced us for one. Maybe it was because of AHA night, or maybe he was just being generous, either way, you gotta love that. The drinks tasted amazing and I was very happy with the large portion. Based on the drinks, I'd say that I'd go back to visit Cafe Arpeggio soon. Maybe it can be a ritual when I start taking my Standard Times classes.
