I went here a lot during the pandemic. I love this local spot and how I can easily walk here from Fairhaven. I love their vegan donuts and all of their beverages. It's a good spot to grab and go, or to sit and enjoy the downtown of New Bedford for a bit. The staff is always wonderful, just like the space and everything served here. We also get drinks to go from here a lot for school. They're a shop early enough for us teachers to order ahead of our very early school day. That is super appreciated! read more

We had a fabulous lunch here after visiting the Whaling Museum. I had a spicy avocado tuna sandwich on Sourdough bread. It was soooooooo good! We were a party of six. Others also had the spicy tuna, the avocado turkey sandwich, the breakfast sandwich, and various beverages. I got there at around three something. I had a coffee and I tipped. I asked for a bathroom key because at 4:08 I suddenly got a very upset stomach after traveling. I noticed they were starting to wrap things up, but I thought I still had time. They gave me the key, and around 4:10 to 4:15, the guy who gave it to me stormed into the bathroom screaming that I was shooting drugs and wasting his time. I stutter sometimes, and he started mocking me for it while I was trying to explain that I was done. This was completely insane and inappropriate behavior. I was about to apologize while returning the key, and he just barked "no" at me and slammed the door in my face. If it is against policy, then simply do not give me the key. There is absolutely no reason to be so nasty and dehumanizing. On top of that, as I was leaving, they were still wrapping things up and had not even left yet. I used to go there every day for lunch, and I'm very upset I need to find a new place now. I will tell my friends and coworkers to avoid this place as well. read more

Been wanting to try this place and finally did today! Very loud inside. There were a lot of tables filled up, and two small tables but only one had a chair so we took our orders to go. There were a lot of people standing around too so I wasn't sure where I was even supposed to order. I was thinking maybe they need more seating. I do appreciate the huge menu that's easy to see right when you walk in. My boyfriend liked his turkey avocado wrap but didn't finish like his coffee (we ended up getting coffees from Dunkin later on). I wanted to like the tofu wrap so bad but it lacked flavor and tasted more bitter than anything. Even with lots of ketchup it wasn't the best. I was in the area as I had to bring my brother to the local YMCA for a swim meet. This coffee shop showed up as one of the closer places that had wifi and a place to sit down for work. I settled down in one of the many tables to set up my work area. Aside from the tables, they had several couches as well for those that are looking to relax more. An issue that I would raise is that there aren't really many wall outlets for those that are looking for a place to set up a laptop to work on. I was able to secure the one table next to a standing fridge that had an outlet. As for their food and drinks, I opted for a red eye coffee and a breakfast burrito plus bacon. A large coffee set me back around $3.50 and the burrito at $7.50 after adding the bacon for $1. The coffee was great and kept me energized from waking up early. The burrito was filled with 3 scrambled eggs, cheddar, avocado, black beans, sour cream, and salsa. It was also griddled which was a nice touch and added some textural element to the burrito which I enjoy. The menu did say scrambled but the eggs looked more like precooked egg patties that most coffee shops tend to use. Overall the flavor was more on the bland side but the addition of some green hot sauce solved that. Overall, its a great place to sit down and hang out for a bit or to get some work done on one of their many seating arrangements. read more

The green bean is a pretty nice place to have breakfast or a quick lunch. The sandwiches/wraps and salads are al, good with a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. Their coffee is pretty good and reasonably priced, but their tea selection is very limited (which is important to me) because I am a tea drinker and I feel that we (as in tea drinkers) are always in a disadvantage :) If I were to describe the green been the best way to do it will be to say that it resembles local "hip" corporate child of a Starbucks and Panera union. The place is pretty nice and seems to be clean. It is usually full of young people and sometimes you can see business meetings going on at the neighboring table (It seems to be the only "civilized" place to sit down and have a cup of coffee without being harassed), and the service is quick and efficient as well. This is a great place to sit and relax for a little while, or to take someone for a date. The coffee is organic, the staff is friendly, and the drinks are delicious, if on the expensive side. It's Starbucks prices, but high quality coffee and you know your money is going to a mom-and-pop local business that employs local people, not a billion-dollar corporation paying below minimum wage, so it's justifiable. (and I definitely still drink Starbucks) My favorite are either the chai lattes or the chai shakes, both absolutely delicious and super sweet. Decent. Coffee was ok. I tried their BLT. It was more lettuce and spinach than anything else. Worse: the bacon was fraudulent. There is no way I'm believing That was actual bacon I just ate. Plenty of seating and variety in terms of the seating options (they've got couches, bar stools, and various tables). They also have smoothies. I might try that next time. Not a great salad - no chunks of chicken, rather a glob of blended unidentifiable food. The bakery case was only 1/3 full. Dad got the veggie burger and I tasted - pretty bland. I still like this place for their juice, their coconut chai, and their herbal teas. Their morning staff is consistently nice although you will occasionally get someone who's clearly not a morning person (and during the day, more occasionally you'll get a cashier or two who's not a people person period). I do appreciate that the service is fast. I brought this place down a star because the last several times I've been here to order sandwiches, they've run out of turkey. I'm ok with subbing chicken, but more than three times in the last 6 months is saying something. Come on! Really? Half your menu consists of turkey sandwiches. And when they DO have turkey they'll run out of avocado when I order the turkey avocado. Also, not a fan of the side of tortilla chips that come with the sandwiches - it's an awkward combo. Perhaps it wouldn't be so awkward if they were better quality tortilla chips. I frequently crave sandwiches but after checking out other places around New Bedford and Dartmouth, I find I never crave a sandwich from THIS cafe. There's just better out there and more worth the money. Green Bean offers good scones, though, so check those out! The decor is still cute and the wifi is free and the juice is totally worth a stop in here. read more

What makes the Green Bean so different from other coffee shops? Let's start with the location. On a personal note, I just moved to New Bedford and love that it is walking distance from home. On the very corner of Purchase and Union, it is an ideal place for a pick-me-up before you hit the boutiques nearby. They just opened a new park a block away so if you find it to be a bit crowded, why not grab a sandwich and have a private picnic in the park? I, however, love the lighting inside. The windows are big, allowing ample amount of lighting to stream in and giving you a perfect view of the city outside. Quite a treat if you enjoy people watching. The food is always a delight. It's made fresh and delicious. There are vegan donuts on the weekend and vegetarian options on the menu. You have a small variety of muffins, cookies, bagels and scones on a regular basis. Keep an eye open for the specials. They are usually something to drool over. As of now, it's the chickpea salad. The coffee and tea are great but the best part is if you get them iced. They are cold brewed which brings out the flavor. The staff is friendly and attentive. I love the cooks and the baristas alike. If you find your self frequenting this cafe, you'll get to know them for the delightful people they are. And don't be surprised if you find Eric,one of the co-owners, taking your order. It's a trend in this downtown area that the owners care about their customers satisfaction and he is no different. If you have a bad experience, give the Bean another shot. I am occasional customer but after today, no more. We have tried GB several times in the past 6 years. We saw the renovation recently, walking by and decided to give you a try after several rather cold chilly experiences. They include unfriendly to downright rude to incorrect orders. Sure, it happens but honestly, we are easy going. We support all of the businesses we can in NB and so, I decided to try today. I pre order and pre pay whenever I can. Unfortunately today, I could not as it was last minute. I popped my head in and the woman at the cash register took my order. I offered to go to my car and call it in but she declined. I apologized for not calling ahead. She did not crack a smile did not welcome me and was chilly. The person with the beard saw me and walked away, no smile no greeting. In this time, we need to support each other and EVERY damn customer is gold and any business fighting to stay afloat in this mess of a time, should appreciate the customer. I will do all I can to support local small business. Love one another, respect and most of all appreciate. BTW, their bagel called "the works" didn't work for me. Went to the gb on 5/2/21 and yes businesses are struggling with COVID, but the waitress behind the counter was rude to me and friend. From the moment we walked in. My friend decided she changed her mind on the smoothie, Bc it's call PB banana but after ordering it, saw it's peanuts not PB and asked to change her order Bc the other drink was same price. My smoothie wasn't blended well enough and had chunks of ingredients in it I threw it away. Her energetic juice came in a hot cup instead of plastic w a straw? Strange choice, had too much ginger and was in drinkable. We considered it was done intentional Bc she was mad about the switch. Overall experience was horrible and not worth spending my coins. In town visiting family and it was recommended I stop by while getting my hair done. I popped in and love the decor and atmosphere right away. I was greeted by a friendly girl behind the counter named Liz. I asked her opinion about making a peanut butter smoothie. She gave it and told it was one of their customer favorites. I'm a smoothie snob and told her I preferred my smoothies thick and full of flavor not just ice. I thought for sure she would roll her eyes and give me RBF. I was informed I would not be disappointed and there was a spark of determination lighting up her eyes. I also inquired about their fresh baked goods. Pumpkin muffin caught my eye. Said pumpkin muffin was made fresh that morning. Liz was on point. I couldn't believe I was having such an amazing experience. My smoothie could have been rated highly by Ramsey himself. Liz delivered and that freshly baked pumpkin muffin melted in my mouth. The only bad part was realizing I was 2,000 miles away from such delectables. But in that moment I was in heaven. First time coming to Green Bean I got an iced chai: I think it was one of those pre-mixed. Way too sweet did not enjoy it I got their Ice tea (Wildberry) - not sure what type it is it was over sweetened , taste like cough medicine/Kool-Aid I got tuna sandwich they get high praises for this. Nicely grills lines on the bread, tomato and onion was good, and sauce was tasty little messy but not bad. Came with a side of chips but no pickle not sure if it needed it but it's kind of traditional though. I think this place is more of a sitting area . A lot of people around on the computers. Bottom line up front: Stopped by on a road trip, should have gone to McDonalds. My wife and I stopped in here for a late lunch (2PM) on a drive to NY. The cafe had a nice feel, cool artwork, and gets lots of sun, but the positives end there. I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich. Pesto was decent, mozzarella was good, no complaints about the tomato, lettuce, or onion, but the chicken was so dry it tasted like it had been left out on the pavement all day to keep warm. The bread was also getting very stale. Wife wanted the turkey sandwich, but the cafe was out of turkey. Probably something you should try to avoid if half of your menu requires it. She ended up with the grilled cheese instead, which consisted on some unknown white substance masquerading as cheddar on the same stale bread. Also both sandwiches came with tortilla chips. Really? I love Casa Sanchez as much as the next guy, but bland, off-brand triangles don't really pair with pesto and grilled cheese. Oh and it goes without saying that they were stale too. All of this would be annoying, but the service was what really drove this review downhill. PSA: If you hate people and can't be bothered to fake a smile, look someone in the eye, and say "hi" before grunting "yeah?" at the cash register, then maybe the food service industry is not for you. read more

NB can be a tad intimidating to the soft Providencian, what with it's colorful population and grittiness, but I made my way to this spot to work for the afternoon, and once inside this lofty, bright space I was as happy as a clam... Especially with my fresh and refreshing raspberry smoothie. Their menu was impressive and the case of baked goods mouth-watering, but since it was late afternoon I settled for a smoothie, of which they have many and all are creative. They can customize them according to taste, too - just ask if you want to leave out the banana or add another berry. I was a little bummed when the wifi didn't work (they have an open network, but I could't seem to get on it), and the large space does make for somewhat cacophonous noise (especially when there's a patron as loud as the one that was there when I was), but in general this coffee shop is darling, and I'll definitely return! read more

I love the Green Bean. I live and work in the neighborhood, so it's a regular stop for me. Their coffee and lattes are always spot-on, the food is fresh and delicious, and the people-watching is some of the best in the area. I've tried a majority of the menu, and there isn't too much to disagree with on it. The tuna avocado sandwich is dreamy, and their breakfast burrito - with No Problemo hot sauce - is as good as it gets. It also helps that the café itself is warm and inviting, and on sunny days, I could sit there and do homework or hang out until I couldn't stand one more sip of coffee. The Green Bean USED to have good coffee. Sadly that ended some time ago. Now the best you can hope for is a cup of something akin to McDonalds coffee. Weak and bitter. The place has always been staffed by tragically hip types which admittedly does add some kind of edgy vibe to a cofffee shop. A good, coffee shop. Now, those tragically hip types have morphed into full-fledged "hipsters" complete with all the requisite facial hair. It is that hair that ruined todays visit. When I found a small hair imbedded in my scone, I went to the counter and caught the attention of "young hipster dude". "I think the guys with beards (everybody) need to start wearing hairnets" I said as I presented my follicle infested scone to him. He looked at it. Immediately whisked it away and replied: "Okay". Returning to my table, I continued to finish my McDolalds coffee. A minute or two later, "young hipster dude" walked over to my table, placed two dollars on my table, and said: "Here you go." I'm in New Bedford for work this week and my first meeting was at the Green Bean. My initial impression left something to be desired... Felt like it was my fault that I didn't know how the place operates. After two more visits, however, my opinion has changed significantly. The coffee is good, not "blow your socks off" great, but good. The dark roast is called Sumatra. It doesn't seem to have the body that I expect from a good Sumatra but the flavor is decent. What I really like is the Breakfast Burrito! It has all kinds of good stuff in it and the flavor combination is really good. I liked it so much the first day that I went back and got it again. Today I treated myself to a Chocolate Chip Muffin - meh... it was dry and I would bet that it had been sitting in the display for a day. The atmosphere is trendy. There are obviously "regulars" who are greeted warmly and who get the special treatment. The place has WiFi which is nice and the seating area is open and airy thanks to the large windows on two walls. The restrooms are in a hallway outside of the business. Both days the men's room was out of order and I was told to use the women's. Clean enough. A nice alternative to New England's ubiquitous DD and I suggest you give it a try if you're in New Bedford. read more
