We found this place on the way home from Horseneck after surfing. I'm so glad we did. Walking in, takes you back to what restaurants were years ago. A bar with welcoming seats at the counter, friendly staff and returning customers that all know each other. I ordered a peanut butter cup ice coffee and it was delicious. I didn't need to put any sugar in it, as the beans were flavorful enough. I did add almond milk, which has a cost of about $.60 instead of creamer. I had a Greek omelet and didn't have to modify anything. This is a big one for me. They also served a griddled bolos on the side and fresh made home fries on the grill. My wife had a homemade blueberry muffin that was really good. She ate the basic breakfast with bacon, which was huge. Bacon was cooked perfectly. The staff was friendly and chatty! The prices seem reasonable, but be aware that the menus posted online are incorrect. Obviously things have gone up recently. They still have a Little man breakfast for around $7 which has one piece of bacon, one sausage, one pancake, one egg, and hash browns. This is an excellent deal. I got mine with blueberries. I took my girlfriend there for breakfast & it was a complete disaster. It took us close to an hour to receive our breakfast after other patrons that arrived a significant amount of time after we did had already been served & we're enjoying their breakfast. After around 40 minutes had passed (we had ordered eggs, bacon & homefries) we politely asked about our order considering the time that had passed & the other patrons already being served. My girlfriend watched how our waitress had keyed in the order after we had inquired about it. About 15 minutes passed & we were served a breakfast w hard home fries & a different waitress. My orange juice was never offered to be refilled. I left a tip of 10 cents & will NEVER go back again. read more

I love this restaurant but was treated so rudely during my most recent visit. The waitress was so kind, and this review is not at all aimed at her, but at the end of our meal, we were rushed out of the restaurant by another member of the staff after not even having time to finish our breakfasts, which ended up packed up in boxes, and spoken to in a condescending and agitated tone. We hadn't even been seated in the restaurant for 45 minutes and had just been handed back our credit card. In the midst of leaving our tip, we were made to feel as though it was our fault that the restaurant was busy and there was a long wait, but that's nothing new. It's been busy on Sundays for years. Everyone who dines there is used to that. There's a nice way to help turn over tables, especially when people are making a choice to spend their hard earned money at your establishment. I know it's incredibly stressful and hectic in the service industry, especially in food service, but the least you can do is treat a customer with kindness and respect. Without good customer service, you're driving away consumers. Won't be coming back again. read more

We were in town for a wedding and needed a bite to eat. I found Kathy's on Yelp and when we arrived the parking lot was almost full, which was a promising sign! We only had a short wait and then had prompt service. The portions were delicious and generous. The prices are very reasonable. I didn't catch our server's name but she's petite, has brown hair, brown eyes, and a warm and friendly attitude. Unfortunately editing my review of this establishment based on recent events. I will always be fond of Kathy's, but it's becoming very uncomfortable to be there when the owner of the restaurant is. I can hear him make disparaging remarks to the servers who stop to talk to me (because I come regularly due to the fact that they are kind, friendly, relationship building, good people!) and it's horrible to hear that when it's slow and these folks put the extra effort into making guests like me smile, that the owner would rather, "Find something for you to clean." One great thing about Kathy's is how easy it is to get to know the locals at the tables adjacent to you. However, it becomes more frustrating when I hear the owner tell his servers that it's inappropriate to talk about my cat with me, when I can hear very loud political conversations taking place at the front of the restaurant almost every time I am there. I love that the Kathy's staff doesn't discourage a sharing of opinions, but when microchips and lizard people and running over BLM protestors are more appropriate topics to talk about than my cat's daily habits, I become a little confused. It is also discouraging, particularly and especially on the busy weekend days, to see the three our four servers working in the back, "big" part of the restaurant busting their butts, running food, doing sidework as they care for their guests... and watching the other front end workers hold court and refrain from going the extra mile alongside their coworkers. It begins to seep into my overall positive experience when the servers attending my table have low morale and are visibly exhausted hauling themselves around the restaurant. I am not sure if this is a case of nepotism or just a strange pattern of facts, but after talking extensively with the other staff members unrelated to the owner, I have come to the conclusion that these members of the staff are visibly putting up with a lot of bullshit that is becoming hard to watch. However, overall, the restaurant is the wonderful place that it is because of the other folks within its walls. Kathy's is the best breakfast spot in all of Bristol County! I have been to Kathy's numerous times, even as a kid playing little league baseball, our coach would stop by for Ice cream. That was over 20 years ago in Assonet! Kathy's has great staff, great food, affordable prices, and a clean friendly atmosphere. The staff is attentive and accommodating. We have ordered take out and have sat down for breakfast multiple times. Food is well prepared and delicious. I suggest trying the Joe's sandwich which is a fried egg with cheese and crumbled chouriço. It is served on a freshly baked roll with home fries. The price is under $6 and this sandwich fills you up! Was privileged to sit in at Kathy's Coffee shop. Wow, just wow. The food and service was incredible. It was so good, I had to complete the review while sitting here. I am very particular when it comes to my breakfast. Yet, I didn't get even the slightest hint of frustration from my waitress. She was kind from beginning to end. I was really pleased with the food. Samantha, my waitress, made sure it was cooked just the way I asked. She told me she double checked with the cooks to ensure it would be cooked as requested. This little coffee shop was a quick lunch stop for me today. I had a grilled cheese on rye with Swiss and provolone and a cup of clam chowder. The grilled cheese was superb but the clam chowder was a little watery and bland for me. I was displeased that I was charged another two bucks for a coffee to go (after already having ordered a cup with my meal), but I'm willing to overlook that since it's a local shop and I know overhead costs can be troublesome. It was delightful to listen to the waitresses interact with their regular customers and the music station they had on was very pleasing. They installed high dividers between seats and the sanitize the tables after the customer leaves. I feel as though they have gone above what is required and I feel safe and comfortable to eat there. I just visited Kathy's Coffee Shop for the first time and it was excellent! We had been talking about visiting for months and finally did it. The location is a little out of the way from where I live but I will definitely make the trip again. The place was packed but we only waited a few minutes to be seated. I ordered the Oreo peanut butter pancakes with bacon and they were SO good. Very few places offer peanut butter pancakes so I always appreciate the ones that do. The place to go for breakfast. I have never had a bad meal there. Had a breakfast combination of 2 eggs over light with sausage links and a choice of 2 pancakes or french toast and my wife had pumpkin pancakes. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were not too thin, cooked right, not heavy, and very good. My wife raved about hers. She also has home fries with hers which were also very good. I've had other meals there including lunches and have always been satisfied. The staff is very friendly and efficient, service is quick, the interior is quaint and clean. The only drawbacks are the place is on the small side and the place is very very busy in the early AM. The service is very good and the place is clean. Family of five stayed at local hotel and were on the lookout for some diner food. Kathy's food was SO much more than what we expected and the wait staff was FANTASTIC! Two had Belgian waffles (stating that they were the best they had ever had), two had generous omelettes and I devoured a chorizo and egg wrap. AMAZING! Offered home fries two different ways, bacon was well done and coffee was fresh and tasty and always offered a "top off." While storefront is consistent with nearby buildings and interior is typical, will definitely come back again for the food! Yum!
