I dragged my husband to the mall to return something and we walked by The Baklava. It had a display of Turkish delights in the window and I wanted to walk in. You see, my husband and I had just returned from Turkiye in the past year and we had the best Turkish delight and baklava there. How does this place stack up? Well, we ordered a few pieces to try. They sell the Turkish delights by weight so we did not go too crazy. My hubs wanted to try the chocolate strawberry, so we got a few pieces. I also ordered the pistachio and a piece of the pistachio baklava ($2.99). We spent a little under $11 there. The store was clean and the treats were tasty. Service was great. We ate them all before leaving the mall. Was it as good as being in Turkiye? Not quite, but close. 4 stars. read more

We stopped by after seeing that they have the viral Dubai chocolate and I'm so glad that we did. I've had Dubai chocolate before but this place definitely has a premium product in the filling to chocolate ratio. The pistachio filling was vibrant green and flaky and crunch with a great nutty flavor. Do I wish it was less expensive, yes. But will I be stopping by again, most definitely. We were on our way to have lunch at a food court spot here when we saw The Baklava and thought we might give it a try after lunch. After lunch, I honestly thought we were just going to look and not buy anything, but the gentleman working here was so helpful and friendly that we just had to buy a few items. I imagine he was probably the owner; he definitely had owner vibes. He was very knowledgeable about other locations around Orange County and Santa Barbara that serve baklava. We actually ended up getting Turkish coffee, which I now recall having tried at a very well-known Santa Barbara spot and hating. Well, the Turkish coffee here has made me a believer. My girlfriend and I are definitely coming back for more baklava and Turkish coffee. As far as the baklava itself, I would say the standard baklava was very similar to a place we used to go to where we know they brought in homemade baklava. Who would have ever imagined a store just for baklava. And why haven't they before? My wife is a huge baklava fan and was super excited when we saw this. I didn't even know they had different types of baklava. But it doesn't stop there. They also had a million different types of turkish delight! Which immediately made me think of lion the witch and the wardrobe, and I saw that they had a narnia box! A pretty and modern Turkish cafe in the Mission Viejo. I can see this place getting very popular through Yelp and social media eventually. Maybe if a reel or two gets popular. The decor and the food display make for a nice Instagram backdrop. They have an assortment of Turkish delight varieties presented as little logs. You pick the ones that you want and the gentleman behind the counter (presumably the owner?) cuts them up into cubes and puts it in a box for you. They also have a variety of baklavas to choose from. I love that they offer Turkish coffee as well. It breaks the sweetness of the desserts. Overall everything was tasty and service was good. I hope this Turkish cafe/bakery stays here for a long time. We went to get some Dubai Chocolate after seeing they sold it on a previous visit, but ended up trying several items. Kareem was VERY sweet, knowledgeable (about a lot of things, and not just Baklava and Turkish Delights!), and just a pleasure to talk to. I've only tried mass produced, super processed Turkish Delights and hated them, so I didn't think I'd end up trying any here. But looking around while waiting for our turn, we noticed how pretty everything was and that there were so many different kinds. We bought one flavor just to try and Pistachio Rolls, along with the Dubai Chocolate and a Turkish coffee. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD. We chatted with Kareem for a few minutes and he gave us a few different flavors to try! He told us about the store, just chatted about life... it was a great experience overall. THE FOODS | Turkish sweet treats. I ordered (and tore through)... - Turkish Delight | The exterior is a springy, white nougat and has a interesting gummy/chewy consistency. The center is a creamy, buttery filling with bits of pistachio mixed in and the subtle scent of rose water. This. Is. Incredible. I highly recommend trying it out. THE DRINKS | Coffee and teas. I didn't order a drink this time around but I'm dying to try their Turkish coffee. If it's anything like other Turkish coffees I've tried in the past, I'm expecting a strong hit of caffeine. I feel jittery just thinking about it. WOULD I COME BACK? | Absolutely yes. Fairly it's more of a 3.5 stars but since we don't have half ratings, rating up works. This is located inside the Crown Valley Mall on the ground level right below the food court area. It's a nice sheik little store with different baklavas, Turkish delights and tea/coffee. You can order by the piece or the box but I was craving some Turkish coffee and baklava so I had mine right there. As far as the baklava goes the pistachio was my favorite. The flavor was just delicious along with the texture. Their Turkish coffee was just ok to be honest. I've had many many that are made on hot sand as the order is made so this was lacking the depth and the froth on top from being cooked. Service was really good and hospitable and that was the best part of it all. Baklavas could be a little more fresh but I get it, why keep making unless the trays are empty specially in the slower times. My biggest criticism is serving the baklavas on nicer dish ware instead of paper or styrofoam plates and even for tea and coffee to have actual cups. Nothing worse that having some beautiful drinks and tea and to be presented in a very unflattering way specially at the price. read more

The interior is a pop up shop vibe with 2 table seatings and white walls. The people here are sweet, they will let you sample products before buying. We got the coconut raisin pistachio and pomegranate pistachio Turkish delight (price is by weight) and Turkish coffee (total $8.50). Both had tons of nuts, the coconut was bomb with good ratio of coconut to raisins. Pistachio pomegranate was fruity, similar to a fruit gummy. The Turkish coffee was not super bitter and smooth. Overall great place for a sweet treat after shopping. Would love to try the baklava my next visit. read more

So on a recent trip to the Shops at Mission Viejo, I had the pleasure of walking by and visiting The Baklava. Located where Godiva Chocolates used to be, the design of the store has not changed since its previous tenant, but the layout proves excellent for this type of store. I was initially intrigued by the beautiful and tasty-looking treats viewable from the outside window. The Turkish Delights in particular caught my attention as it was adorned with pistachios and looked utterly scrumptious. But the true reason this place deserves the 5-star rating is the customer service. The wonderfully kind gentleman working the counter was knowledgeable and extremely friendly, offering samples of their best-selling flavors. They also have a pretty strong Turkish coffee, for those who are willing to experiment with the darker side of the roasted beans. 5 out of 5 would recommend visiting and I would encourage you to try their delights. read more
