I was in Melrose meeting a friend. I had a craving for something good and came across The Bangkok restaurant. This place didn't disappoint. As I walked in, it gave me Thailand vibes (being that I just came back from there a few months ago) the smells automatically triggered a good nerve. parking is street. the restaurant holds about half dozen tables. the place is quaint. the restaurant was quite cold when i arrived at noonish. ordered the khao soi. good size portion. the "soup" is on the thicker side. it's definitely on the sweeter side when comparing khao soi to khao soi with other establishments. the noodles were cooked well, had a nice chew texture. the chicken leg could have been stewed longer, i was wrestling with it to break it apart. glad i stopped by. it's a decent khao soi but not a memorable one where i want to go back for. read more

This tiny gem in Melrose is seriously worth the visit if you're craving authentic Thai food with bold flavors! We started with the shrimp donuts, and wow--they were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. A great way to kick off the meal! I ordered the Ba Moo Poo (dry crab noodles with pork), and it did not disappoint. The pork was tender, the noodles were packed with flavor, and it came with a light, aromatic chicken broth that added a nice contrast to the dish. The bok choy in this dish was super crisp and fresh--such a nice touch. We also tried the crab fried rice, which might be my favorite dish of the night. It comes with a lime-cilantro sauce that has a little kick to it--just enough to elevate the flavors without overpowering the dish. Highly recommend it! Just a heads up: the restaurant is very small--only five tables that seat two each. They can push them together for larger parties, but be prepared to wait during peak times. Now this is a hidden gem for me. The front space looks like a cafe and inside is so cozy. They write specials on the wall and everything we got was delicious. The shrimp donut had a nice thin crispy layer and inside was stuffed with minced shrimp. The chicken satay was well seasoned. The diced onions and cucumber were in this umami pickle sauce. Khao Soi: Delicious. Ingredients fresh and well-balanced. The chicken leg was really good with a nice, browned exterior and tender on the inside. Both the regular noodles and crispy noodles were tasty. The curry was delicious, with a bit of a kick to it. The Bangkok Ribs: nice glaze on the outside. I really like the marinade. It's so good. the CUTEST little hole in the wall, in a small district of buildings. Park wherever you can and just walk, it's worth it. The waitress (I think owner) was so sweet and answered any questions I had. When you order food to be delivered to a friend (this was in 2021), you might end up ordering from somewhere that you have zero personal experience with. The Bangkok is such a business, because it just isn't in my neighborhood, nor in my stomping grounds. However, Yelp and Grubhub both showed good ratings, and Thai is generally family friendly, so there you go. The Bangkok offers online ordering from their own website via ChowNow. Yelp also offers delivery for them that is fulfilled by Grubhub. Both have a $15 minimum, and a $2 delivery fee. But I noticed that the pricing on Grubhub was a bit elevated, and I prefer doing business direct with a local business when possible. Unfortunately I had trouble completing my order online. No idea why, but calling the restaurant direct did the job. The lady handling the calls also handled the food allergies well, inquiring with other parties when necessary before responding to me. When we altered the order from delivery to take-out (since they would be ready for pick up in 15 minutes, but delivery was going to be at least 45 min - 1 hour [generally quite reasonable, but potentially a hardship for a family with young children]) she even remembered to pause to remove the delivery fee before quoting me the new tally. My friend found The Bangkok to be strong with their flavors. The steamed veggies that came with the Tamarind Duck $15 were bright and nicely presented. They enjoyed the Pad See Ew $10 with beef $2, and found the grilled chicken on the Vietnamese Rice Plate $11 to be pretty yummy on the basically standard dish. The Crispy Chicken $2 Pad Thai $10 was also tasty, but lost some crispiness due to the commute. The Bangkok may have won over some new customers with their tasty food and their ability to handle their allergies. *** Yup, my friend returned to The Bangkok (2022!) after having watched the staff at another local business establishment handle their food with the same gloved hands that had previously grasped cheese. A new order was placed here for the kiddies enroute, and all was well! *** As a non-parent of children with allergies, I would suggest, communicate, communicate, communicate. The lady who answered my phone call at The Bangkok took my concerns seriously, and I appreciated it. But I know my friend has received more lax responses from other businesses. So while my personal tendency at receiving an unrequested extra ingredient, is "bonus!" I understand that may not be the case for those with life threatening allergies to contend with. read more

The service was really fast and staff was quite friendly. The Bun Bo Hue I had was quite amazing and flavorful, price is quite reasonable with the amount of food. I enjoyed it so much I ended up ordering something else to take home with me since I'm not from the area. Definitely would be a regular coming back for more. Parking was a little tricky but nothing too painful as Melrose is a pretty suburban area, I was able to find some one hour parking on the side streets. Moved to the area recently and wanted to try out this place after hearing really good stuff about it! Note that this place is pretty small - seems like it's more known for takeout during lunch time, as we (2) were the only people sitting there the majority of the time during lunch. The people here are really attentive and friendly! We got the Khao Soi Noodle Soup and the Indo Fried Rice. Portion size was really good for the price - couldn't finish the noodle soup in one sitting personally. Both the Indo Fried Rice and Khao Soi were super flavorful and their Khao Soi is possibly one of my favorites in the Boston area. The chicken was super tender and the meat fell off quite easily. What a cute little place! The whole menu looks bomb I wasn't sure what to get. Ordered the fresh rolls and crispy tofu, which are something light to start. I also ordered a chicken vermicelli bowl. Sooo much flavor! The chicken is juicy and seasoned perfectly. The sauce it comes with is sweet and spicy, but not extremely spicy. I left feeling full and satisfied. Prices are super cheap! Don't order the "chef recommended" pork belly. They served it inedible. Very tough hunks of fat hard to even cut through.
