I have probably ridden past this place a couple of dozen times in my travels back and forth to the coast, and never even knew it was there. That is, until a classic BMW rider I talked to on the beach mentioned it. So I figured, what the heck, give it a shot! All of the seating is outdoors, so you are going to be subject to whatever weather is occurring, though the seating is under cover, with two large areas. I sat in the second area that isn't right next to the ordering window, and apparently is not used as heavily. Service was pretty standard. Order at the window, get a ticket number, then wait for it to be called and go pick up your order. No hassles. While it was suggested to me originally that I try the fish as it was the best in the area, I really wasn't feeling up to a fish sandwich, so I went for a burger instead. I have been to a lot of different burger places around North Florida, and this fits right in with the standard burger stand style burger. Price was also right in there with the rest of the places I have been to. The fish that I was seeing come out did look pretty good, so perhaps next time (and there should be a next time) I will try that out instead of the burger. It is nice to know that there is a place like this along the way that I can count on for having this kind of food.

Bunnell, Florida is a smaller community that sits somewhere between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine (pretty much halfway between the two better known cities). Bunnell certainly has grown, but it still holds its smaller community feel to it. If you are passing through, make sure you stop by the Bantam Chef and grab their famous fish sandwich, you won't regret it (of course, unless you are allergic to seafood). I would definitely recommend checking Bunnell out.

I'm not gatekeeping this one any longer. Tucked Bunnell about 12 minutes off of I95 is an institution that has fed locals for over 30 years. I discovered it while just browsing every restaurant on Google maps cruising virtually down I95. Upon reading reviews and seeing several guest photos, I saw that their fish sandwich was their biggest seller. A stand alone structure with ample parking and plenty of outdoor seating. There was a line when I arrived around 3pm on a Wednesday. I had to try their epic fish sandwich. Stacked about six inches high, their fried white fish sandwich is absolutely out of this world. At the time of eating, the sandwich was going for about $10, an absolutely steal. If you're ever in the area... shoot even if you're within an hours drive... make the time to eat here! Please! It'll change you. It's not just a delicious fish sandwich; it is a throw back nostalgic experience. A true Florida hidden gem.

For those of us who have lived here for years this is famous comfort food They used to be $4.25 back in the day, but they are double + that and still worth it! Yes, it's a hole in the wall but if you love good fried fish sandwich your tastebuds will rejoice! I prefer my fish ALTW (all the way). Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and their delicious tartar! Sometimes I go plain with tartar on the side if you got a decent drive home, but we love eating it hot! Also, try the broccoli bites! Sooo good!!!

We love this place! $15 fish sandwich with fries and coleslaw. Enough food for my husband and I to share. We drive from Ormond just to get the fish sandwich. Staff is always friendly. Get here early as it gets really busy, but so worth it if you have to wait. Outside dining only, under the huge awning.

My husband and I have heard so many reviews on the Famous Fish Sandwich at The Bantam Chef we had to try it out. We went tonight and as we were heading there it started to rain, I told my husband no worries they have covered outdoor seating. When we got there a few people in line but were served very quickly. I ordered our sandwiches 3 Famous Fish with 1 without lettuce (mine). The lady behind counter was nice and gave me a ticket with our number on it, our order number. My husband waited for our sandwiches as I got us a seat. They do only have picnic tables which comes with their cute little kitty ‍. The surroundings could be a little questionable especially at night but their sandwiches are the bomb!!! Or the fried fish is, the sandwich is so big I can't open my mouth wide enough to take a bite so I just took pieces of fish off the sandwich. I ended up taking home a sandwich which I will eat for the next 2 days!! Yes we will definitely go back again!!!

Love this place! Always a great goto!!! Fresh huge fish sandwich and love the cheese tots. Foot long sauerkraut dog! And the shrimp YUM! This is a must have. Only problem is it's too hot to sit outside so we always take Togo. But the new patio with plenty of seating is nice!! read more

You must try this place. I didnt get the famous fish sandwich, since I dont eat fish, but everyone I went with did. For $8.15 you get this humungous sandwich with like 10 pieces of fish. Everyone said it was delicious and had leftovers for dinner. I had the shrimp platter which came with 2 hush puppies, French fries, and coleslaw. Coleslaw was delicious I purchased an extra side. Everything was so amazing I cant wait to go back! read more

It is what it is. I enjoyed what I ordered, which was the world famous fish sandwich, and there was enough leftover for a homeless man outside to have a bit as well. My boyfriend had the oyster sandwich, which wasn't that great, probably because oysters haven't been very good this year. I like the location and the fact that it's got outdoor seating (dog friendly). It also seemed be getting lots of frequent customers and is already attracting a loyal fan base. read more

Very good fried food. Wife had the shrimp and it was excellent. The fish that I ate was very good. We loved the fries as well. The slaw was a little watery and had a vinegary flavor. Over all 4.5 stars, will be back. read more

Stopped on the motorcycle with friends. First time here. I ordered their fish sandwich and my husband ordered sliced pork. The fish sandwich was amazing. I highly recommend it. Will definitely be back. Only outside eating. Wasn't too busy when we got there but lots of people showed up as we were leaving. By the way, the fish sandwich was huge. read more

Lived in the south end of PC next to Bunnell for over 10 yrs. It's a food shack outdoors with only outdoor picnic tables next to the court house with greasy fried foods and southern hospitality in a low-income part of town. If you want extra greasy, all you can eat, frozen fried fish squeezed between two, pathetically fall-apart buns smothered with so-called mayo, lard-laden tartar sauce, then this is your place. Yes, the infamous "fish sandwich" is big as they say, but if you want quantity over quality, then that's what you'll definitely get. Enjoy the flies and the mosquitoes while you wait (or god-forbid sit and eat there) and enjoy the soggy, fried oily goodness when you order your deep fried bucket of lard to-go. Ask for extra napkins to sop up the extra, dripping grease or your dignity whichever drops first. read more

Godzilla eats the fish sandwich here! The best is not always the biggest, the biggest is not always the best but damn this monster is a double handful of tasty delight! Came here on a day trip through Bunnell and boy were we pleased. When you first pull up it kind of seems run down but I always seem to find them as being the best places to eat. Well I ordered the fish sandwich based on the recommendations and I am so glad I did. The sandwich was huge and amazing! Enough to feed two people for sure! 50 bucks gone down the drain from burgers that wasn't cooked to food that wasn't in the bag I had to return and get! My drinks suppose to be half tea half lemonade but they were half sweet tea and half unsweet tea ‍ the first tasted like they were cooked with the fish and they have so many flies they must be in there helping them cook! On our first visit to The Bantam Chef I admit to being disappointed by first impressions. But we had received several recommendations to try their fish sandwich and we were not disappointed. Now, whenever we go we bring emergency supplies.......2 plates, a knife and aluminum foil. We divided our sandwich into two, wrapped one portion in aluminum foil for dinner and eat the rest. Saw what great reviews this little place had and knew we had to give it a try on our way to blueberry picking in Bunnell! The fish sandwich is ENORMOUS and delicious and the sliced bbq pork sandwich was yummy too! Outdoor covered picnic table dining only, so plan accordingly! We were in Bunnell all day for Jacksonville Titans baseball and checked YELP when we left the park. Bantam comes up as #2 in Bunnell so we decided to go. Oh my goodness what a great decision. I am a firm believer in good food coming from unexpected places. When you drive in and see the walkup you may have second thoughts, but do not be deterred. This place is the real deal. The menu for this small roadside shack is HUGE. You go up order your food and they call your number. Seating is picnic tables outside under a shed. Perfect!!! I had the double bacon cheeseburger. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had. The fries were just ok. Sweet tea was perfectly sweet. My wife had their famous fish sandwich.......there was a pound of fish on it. Perfectly fried fish. She shared half of it with my son, who had the chicken fingers. He said they were great, served with fries and coleslaw. My daughter had a cheese burger. They also have a variety of fried seafood and seafood combination sandwiches as well. The sides are also interesting. If you are in Bunnell, find this place and go there. Heard about this place on a Florida blog, and since I spend a great amount of time in Flagler County, I decided to drive on down to Bunnell and give this place a try. They are famous for their fish sandwiches, but I did not try one. Instead I went for a shrimp basket, with fries, slaw and hushpuppies. I liked everything. The shrimp and fries were great, the slaw was excellent and I loved the hushpuppies, though I do wish they were a little bigger, but you get two so that's a plus. The rest of our party ordered chicken strips and burgers. The chicken strips were tasty and they raved about the burgers. I also enjoyed their sweet tea. The restaurant is walk up and they have limited outdoor seating. I love that this place is so unexpected, and the food is amazing for the price. read more

You are never going to find a better fish sandwich anywhere in the world. Loosen your belt a couple of notches if you plan on finishing this beast of a sandwich. It is stacked so high with flounder you can't fit it in your mouth. Soooo yummy. Just do it. You won't regret it. Any time I have friends and family in town I take them here to get the legendary flounder sandwich. Not one person has been disappointed. read more

Our server was excellent, Trevor was a very nice guy and he recommended we come back for the all you can eat ribs. I wish I was staying in town longer and I would. I'll make a point to come back next visit.

Two dollars to sub fries for chips is also a bit much. The most surprising part was the tipping options starting at a whopping 25 percent, then 30, then 35 percent!! Who is eating here? Burt Reynolds?? (IYKYK) We will not be back when visiting this part of Florida; not even for trivia.

As I was enjoying my refreshing cocktail, the server brought out the gator bites. It was my first time trying them, and they were actually the best thing I've ever tasted. The Cajun remoulade complemented the texture of the alligator, which was fried perfectly and wasn't chewy. The deliciousness continued with the salmon. It was grilled nicely and topped with a tasty sweet citrus bourbon bbq sauce and onion strings. The red beans & rice was cooked to a soft consistency and the mashed potatoes was creamy and flavorful. I would describe my outdoor dining experience as pleasurable --that is, until a squirrel appeared and started going around the tables as if it were a regular patron. It was all smiles until the squirrel climbed up the chair, propped itself on the table, and looked straight at me as if to say, "Hey, you gonna eat the rest of that salmon?" I knew it meant me no harm, so I didn't freak out; however, I wasn't sharing my delicious salmon with it. I slowly grabbed my cocktail with one hand and the plate with the remains of salmon with the other hand as the squirrel scurried toward me.
