We probably won't come back one of the servers, not our server, but was dropping curse words and the whole place just didn't feel like we ever wanna bring our child here again, even though she did enjoy the food. If you're looking for a decent local bar and wanna hang out with friends and have some pretty good food, you will like this place. This Tavern is located right on a municipal airstrip, which makes It nice watching the small planes take off and land while eating. The seating area around the bar is a mix of high and low tops. The high tops offer a great view of the planes and TVs in a sports bar type atmosphere; 70's and 80's music enhanced and not overwhelmed the experience. They also have outside patio seating with a small play area. We started with the buffalo shrimp. Six large deep fried shrimp. Nicely seasoned with some tasty blue cheese. Next we added a cup of the New England clam chowder and the Wisconsin beer cheese soup, both of which were thick and had a rich taste. We finished with sharing a fish sandwich that can't be described any other way than HUGE compared to the bun. The house made kettle chips were a very nice addition. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu. All servers were friendly and efficient. They offer a full bar and cold beer. Be sure to ask about the drink specials. My husband's beer was on special for $2. I tried the Flagler Sunset. It was a good mix of rum and fruit juices. With the same owner as beachfront in Flagler, I'm not surprised. The food was cooked perfectly and came out exactly when it needed to. 1 Star - Disappointed After Three Tries We really wanted to love the new Landing Strip Tavern. The renovations look great, and we were excited to continue to support a local spot... but after three separate attempts to dine here since the remodel, we're officially giving up. * First try: Showed up and they were unexpectedly closed with no notice. * Second try: Arrived to be told by the hostess (with a fair amount of attitude) that their systems were down and they weren't seating anyone. * Third try (today): We called ahead to confirm they were still pet-friendly on the patio. Five minutes later, we arrived with our pup only to be told they had no outdoor seating because they were "expecting a large party." Three strikes, and we're out. There are just too many great restaurants in this town that are eager to welcome guests to continue to try to give money to a place that isn't interested in adding more customers. read more

I read reviews of high noise levels before visiting and actually found it wasn't overwhelming. I could hear music in the background and enjoyed it. At our table of 4 we heard each other and the waitress with no issue. Maybe after a few negative reviews they lowered the volume. This was our first experience at The Landing strip Tavern, it was very enjoyable. They have domestic draft $4. I chose the Landshark. And I would recommend the pretzel as appetizer, it was soft inside and just the right crunch on the outside. Our party had big variety of blackened mahi mahi, chicken strips and also an order of shrimp. Chicken tasted very good and the ranch sauce was really good. Blackened mahi mahi was good and the shrimp was better than most restaurants in the vicinity. Service was good and prices are comparable to most restaurants in the area. Some are more expensive for less portioned food actually. They have nice area outside for kids and being right beside the airport it has planes parked on Tarmac adjacent to the restaurant. Walked in and sat right at the bar. It was roomy and comfortable. They also have TVs to watch sports. We got cocktails which were great and the happy hour peach hot wings plus the fried fish sandwich. Both were so delicious and the prices were very reasonable. Service was on point. First visit since the renovations. The place looks much better than before. We were seated promptly. It took almost 20 minutes for someone to ask us if we had been served. Food took very long to arrive. Our drinks were not refilled for a long time as well. The place was not very busy yet, plenty of empty tables and it appeared to be well staffed. I'm not sure why service was very slow. Then the food (finally) arrived. The food was magnificent, very generous portions (we had the chicken Marsala and blackened shrimp fettuccine Alfredo). Check arrived upon request. Collection of it took very long as well. We opted to walk up to the front and asked for someone to take our payment. We visited The Landing Strip tonight and were blown away! We ordered The Twin Engine, which comes with a full pound of peel-and-eat shrimp and 10 chicken wings--it was huge! Definitely a dish meant for sharing--easily enough for four people. To start, we had the Asian sesame tuna salad and a cup of clam chowder. Wow, wow, wow--both were absolutely fabulous. So glad to see this place reopened since we live less than a mile away. Had my favorite blackened mahi sandwich which was excellent. Was greeted by one of the owners. The rebuild is excellent and shows a lot of attention to detail. Unfortunately the sound panels that are ordered a Have not been installec so , even without the sound from the televisjons, the noise was overbearing. Too many sound reflective surfaces. The non-bar area was just as loud and makes for a less than enjoyable time. I hope the restaurant is successful because the food seems to still be excellent. Waitress was prompt and pleasant. First let it be known I want this restaurant to succeed. I really do. This is not a complaint (mostly) but a note of encouragement through constructive criticism. 1. Noise is a huge issue here. My waitress couldn't even hear us while taking our order. (ideas: turn tv volume to zero-we can watch sports without sound) 2. TVs-I'm a big fan of TVs in restaurants -I watch them but I would recommend the TVs have the main sports event only on every other tv (not all the TVs) and the alternate TVs showcase other sports channels/news/whatever. Variety is the key. 3. My party's entrees came out before the appetizers. Also many of the appetizers and meals were missing ingredients and sides. I'm not sure what the process is in the kitchen but it may be necessary to revisit the order process from waitress-kitchen-customer. 4. Last thing is the check. It was inaccurate -charged for the wrong items... however it was fixed. One real complaint-the prices are a little too high. Examples: $16 for five pieces of "Jumbo" shrimp (they were medium sized at best), the $12 pretzel... really... Summary... I will return in a few months to give this restaurant some time to work out the bumps and kinks. The food tasted good with the exception of the beer cheese soup-recipe changed and it's nasty... I hope this helps the owner and brings more happy customers. read more

Excellent food at the newly renovated Landing Strip! My chicken Caesar salad was loaded with Parmesan cheese and dressing. The grilled chicken on top was moist and flavorful. My husband had a huge half pound burger. We also split the giant soft pretzel appetizer. It was hot and fresh, served with three dipping sauces. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the dinner was! Only negative about the place was they no longer have booths. Just tables with not the most comfortable chairs. Luckily the food and decent prices made up for the lack of booths in my opinion. read more

We were pleasantly surprised dining at the Landing Strip Tavern. Read all of the negative reviews but we had a very pleasant and positive experience. The food was delicious. I had the cheeseburger. It was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The French fries were hot and tasty. The service was excellent. We will be back for sure. Also, the ambiance was nice. We used to love coming here when it was Highjackers. My husband loves planes so a restaurant at the airport is perfect! I wouldn't say not go, but it was not as good as it was before. My husband and father in law were disappointed in the lack of aviation decor. We realize the old owners probably took their with him, but this place is literally on a landing strip. There could at least be some pictures of planes on the wall. The food was pretty good. I wouldn't say definitely recommend the Cuban and the hanger pretzel. The Reuben was a bit of a let down. The corned beef was sliced instead of shaved which made a difference. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger off the kids menu, which said it was 7.99. We were then charged $1 for the cheese, when the menu said it was $7.99 for a CHEESEburger. We didn't say anything because it was $1, but we thought it was odd. The beers were reasonably priced. 4 beers, a kids meal, 2 entrees under $20, and an appetizer with tip cost $91. We thought that was a little pricey. There is a fun helicopter shaped playground out back for the kids to play on. My daughters really enjoyed that. read more

I try not to leave bad reviews, but I have to put this out here. We have been twice- the first time we ordered wings and Philly Cheese Steak. They were ok. We gave a 2nd chance this week and were completely let down. We ordered peel and eat shrimp and blue cheese chips for apps- shrimp was good, chips I could not eat, way too salty, 3 little crumbles of bleu cheese and tons of tomato, scallions and cold not crispy bacon. Dinner was ribeye for my husband and burger for me. He lives medium rare- steak was completely raw so he sent back (I have never seen him do this in our 35 years together!) because it was so expensive he wanted to be able to eat it. We swear the whole plate was just put in the microwave because they brought it right back out and the plate was piping hot and broccoli was more cooked- steak was still under but he ate it. My burger was awful- I ordered medium but it was way well done- so dry I couldn't eat it. Almost like it was cooked a day or two before and reheated. Sadly, we always want something different than a chain but we will not be back. Hoping the best for them. read more

We went to Highjackers for the first time last night. Many people in the area bring it up and say it's pretty good. They were not lying. We arrived for dinner about 530 pm. Very early for the Mrs and I but we were attending a concert close by. The place was very busy on a Wednesday night. We still were able to get a table right away even with two couples ahead of us. They have happy hr and food specials from 2-6 $2 drafts, $3 well drinks, $4 IPAs. Food wise we grabbed the mahi mahi dinner for $10 I'm sure the portions are smaller than the regular plate which was like $21 ish with two sides versus one side for $10. They also had as the normal special shrimp $12 The portion was perfect sized for us. We both did grilled and they came out perfect. Moist and flavorful. I did the coleslaw side , my wife did rice and beans. The coleslaw was ok, the beans and rice were much better. They also give you a hush puppy. These are hit and miss at places typically. Here they were a hit! Note to self get more hush puppies! The drinks we had were heavy poured. We like that. The service was good. The girls and gents we're running as it was busy, The place is clean, laid back atmosphere. What we did notice was once 6 :30 rolled around the place slowed down. We found this to be a fun, good food, good drink's restaurant. We will definitely be going back. A few last things. If you have younger kids there is a small playground outside on premise. My review starts with having to clean two folding tables. Both were covered with some sort of animal hair on the table and the hard metal uncomfortable chairs to sit on. The server wanted to argue that the obvious hair was dust, yet had placed a menu and flatware on it. No offer to clean or even help me clean. She was not busy, just standing at the hostess stand. The outside door for the kitchen was opened out to the dumpster...lots of fly's to fight off. The food presentation is nicer in my home. I ordered from the unappealing menu a cup of black beans and rice. The rice was hard and the canned beans were as well. This place used to be another name, fun, good food, clean etc. Now it is like sitting in a cafeteria with loud music. This was a celebration lunch!
