Barre is my favorite kind of workout. This studio is super cute. It's one big room with a mirror at the front of class. When you walk in, there is a counter to check-in at and a white board with all the equipment you need for the class that day. It's located in a strip mall so there is tons of easy and free parking in the lot out front. They have one single stall bathroom in the back right corner. They also have a water fountain. Mallory was my instructor for the day and was incredibly welcoming and helpful. She took the time to explain the class to me and suggested I sit up front so it was a bit easier to follow her. This class was a really fun challenge. She played music that matched the movements and I found myself shocked at how fast time went. They have great equipment here so you don't need to bring anything but yourself (no special socks needed for this one). I highly recommend checking out this studio!

There was about an 8-month period where I couldn't attend (due to "life,"), so for 8 months I paid the monthly fee thinking I'd start up again at some point and 8 months I paid them and didn't use anything I was paying for. After about 8 months I decided that at that time, I probably wasn't going to go back for a while. I was out of town on a trip when I called to cancel, and they would not cancel my membership over the phone. It was a lengthy trip, so I got charged an additional 2 months for a membership simply because I was in a completely different state and they would not cancel my membership over the phone or even just send me an email cancellation option. You'd think, since we are almost in 2020, that they could figure out a way to accommodate people who need to cancel via phone or email. No. I had to wait until I returned and could physically go in to cancel - absolutely ridiculous, and I was charged for an additional 3 months because of that. It has been almost a year, and this still makes me upset. I will never go back to this studio due to what I feel was extremely poor customer service. I understand they have this noted on their webpage -- you'd better make sure you read everything before you sign up with them, is all I can say. Personally, I find it ridiculous and I'll find another yoga studio. Other than this issue, I actually enjoyed this studio and I would have highly recommended them to anyone. But after that -- I'm sorry, but I don't understand why someone can not cancel over the phone or via email. It's a bit ridiculous to require someone to personally go in and cancel, especially if they are in a completely different state. What would have happened if I had moved and forgotten to cancel? Would they just keep charging me and I would have to purchase a plane ticket solely to come and cancel my membership in person? It's almost 2020, people -- time to get into the digital age.

People who work there for years disappear without any explanation and there have been many over the 4+ years I went there. It was OK (other than the monthly fee) until I asked to take a leave of absence for a month for a very personal issue. I was told I would have to "rejoin" when I returned at the $139 a month versus the $109 I was paying. This is extremely expensive. I found a new Yoga home and am saving so much money as well as practicing with a lot of true Yogis.

The Bar Method at the Village Shopping Center just celebrated their second anniversary with the best trained Barre staff in Richmond. The studio is beautiful, bright and immaculate. They offer a second studio inside the same location so two different classes can be running simultaneously. The locker room is roomy and always clean. For those clients with small children, childcare is provided during some of the more popular class times. What sets The Bar Method apart from other Richmond barre studios is the extensive training each instructor goes through - it's not a weekend certification. The instructors get to know their clients and call them by name, they are always making adjustments during class and helping each person with any modifications to make sure you have a safe class experience. I first met them when attending their yoga nights at D9 Brewing and Ghostface Brewing, which were always great yoga experiences. They are super friendly and I learn something new in every class. They currently offer 3 levels of classes from "cultivate" and "inspire" to "fly". The descriptions can be found in their website. Cultivate is geared more for beginners or those who want a slower paced class. Inspire 1 is next up and it then goes up to Inspire 2 and Fly. Today I took the Inspire 1 class which is a good challenge for me. I enjoyed the Cultivate class yesterday and before that I tried Inspire 2. While I could keep up with Inspire 2, it definitely brings in students who are a bit more advanced than myself (beginning to balance upside down etc.) Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, there is a class for you at this studio. When you come in, check-in is easy up front and there is space in the back to change and store your personal items. Shoes are not to be worn when entering the yoga room. Just a warning, they do turn the temperature up between 82-85 degrees during class. Not "hot" yoga, but definitely warm. I usually start sweating before we even start lol, but it's nice while the winter cold is settling in. My favorite part is that near the end during savasana, they will come around with a refreshing chilled damp towel infused with essential oils to help students unwind. Andy and Tamara are currently teaching most of the classes and I think they are adding more instructors in the upcoming weeks. There are currently some new students specials, so check them out online and give them a try! You'll probably become hooked :)
