A hole in the wall place that has excellent food and service. This burger was amazing.

We were here on a Saturday evening on our way back to Indiana from our week long fishing trip to Northern Minnesota. The crowd was pretty full and the waiter was hustling. The drinks were good and not weak. The appetizers were fantastic and the entrees were also delicious. The atmosphere in the place was that of a great neighborhood bar where nearly everyone knew everyone else. Overall The Bar Next Door gets a 4.5 out of 5. We will be back next year.

I'm not much of bar person.. but the atmosphere here was very welcoming. The service was 5 star! Our waitress recommended the garlic aoili, amazing! It's a must try! We had more food but people ate before I could take pics. Big portions, good decent prices.

    Bierock - Jalapeño Poppers

I left hubby with no option other than stopping for lunch or at least ordering some food to go. I lived in Kansas as a teenager and fondly remember discovering bierocks and later making them for my own family. I wish we were locals because not only are the bierocks good, but this place has a fun vibe that would definitely bring us back. It was a game day when we stopped, and there was a fair crowd cheering on their favorite Wisconsin team. We ordered a Classic with Bavarian seasoning and a Rosemary Lamb Bierock to go along with some jalapeño poppers. I really enjoyed the Classic with the additional seasoning. It gave it an added boost of flavor. My husband was pleased with the Rosemary Lamb. Each came with chips and a pickle. Next time, I hope we can stop in and stay for a cocktail or craft beer as well.

Place was not busy and our order was messed up -- ingredients and sides weren't correct or were missing -- which is the reason for 3 stars. We did get comped one meal due to the fact that an entire meal for our son wasn't made and we had to wait another 15 minutes for it to be cooked. Overall, I'd like to try this place again to see if it can regain some stars and my confidence in the service.

El Alegre is located in a small modern strip of shops, with a party center they run next door. The restaurant is medium sized with a nice bar in the corner by the kitchen. The room is sleek and modern with black walls and tables, wood chairs and floors, and a colorful neon strip around the ceiling. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The menu is two sided and manages to have a nice variety without being overstuffed. I ended up ordering the Camarones a la Diabla, as someone who loves spicy shrimp it sounded great. A bit of a wait for the food, but the place was busy with the dining room almost full including a couple of larger tables. The chips and salsa was ok, but nothing special but provided a nice prelude while I waited for the meal. The meal came out nicely presented on a square white plate, which set off the colorful meal. The shrimp were nice sized, plump and well cooked; the sauce was excellent, not overly spicey, but instead complex and delicious with an interesting mix of flavors, it seemed to be similar to a mole instead of just a hot sauce. The refried beans and spanish rice were both good and the guacamole, sour cream and small salad was a nice compliment to the meal. The flour tortillas were very good, freshly griddled and fresh. I was very impressed with El Alegre, the decor is a nice change from most Mexican restaurants. I was very impressed with their version of Camarones a la Diabla, usually it is served with a fairly simple hot sauce, here they created a wonderful and complex sauce that perfectly complimented the shrimp and provided a true treat. If you are in the area and looking for some great Mexican food El Alegre is well worth a visit. If the rest of the menu is anything like my meal it is a great flavorful interpretation of Mexican food.

I Yelped bourbon bars, and found Erin's Snug just down the street from our hotel. I had hoped to have corned beef and cabbage, but was told they were out. Ugh. So I settled for a Reuben. (I looked at him quizzically when he told me they could still make this, but he said the corned beef was prepared a different way. It was kind of shredded.) This wasn't optimal for my low-carb diet, but I pulled off most of the bread and went with it. It was okay, but not great. Kind of disappointing. My Maker's Mark Manhattan, on the other hand, was quite tasty. My husband had the stew, and said it was very good. It came with a large piece of bread on top, maybe soda bread, and was served in a large bowl, Other than the bartender making a joke about how they wouldn't put the Bears game on because this was Packers country (as it turns out, he's from Buffalo), and being oddly out of corned beef and cabbage, the evening was nice.

The decorations are really cute and fun, with big moving statues of different creatures. I will say generally the experience was underwhelming but it was about 2 hrs to close on a Saturday night. The place was DEAD empty. Like 20 or less ppl spread out. We first went to the tiki bar to grab drinks and to think about what we wanted to do. There was a sign that said "wait to be seated" but we were going to just grab drinks. Someone greeted us after a few minutes of waiting and said that they had a "wait" mind you the place was EMPTY... I asked if we could just sit at the bar and they kind of hesitated to say go ahead because no one was tending the bar at the moment. We sat at the bar and eventually 3 staff appeared to be working the bar. We ordered drinks - they didn't actually serve drinks in tiki cups so it was just a bar with basic drinks. We walked around to check everything out and decided to just go back to the hotel.
