Giovanni was fantastic. I stopped into The Barber Shop on a whim, while visiting Denver for a weekend. I needed to clean up before starting a new job the upcoming Monday, and when I left that day, I looked sharp. Giovanni started by talking through what sort of cut I had in mind, and as we got started it became clear he was experienced. I learned through our conversation that he hails from Philadelphia where he worked at a busy barbershop with a long list of clients (both men and women). I wasn't surprised - I felt comfortable the entire time, and he kept the cut progressing at a smooth pace. His new shop in Denver is sleek, clean, and welcoming. Where do I begin, this place is off the charts. Long story short my fiancé and I visited Colorado last year and stumbled upon Gio... BEST cut my fiancé has ever had, hands down. We were impressed immediately with Gio's talent and shop. So when we planned on getting married in Colorado, needless to say my fiancé wanted to see Gio again. I walked in today at approximately 6:05PM looking for a haircut. The barber, Casaundra, asked if I had an appointment. I told her no so she looked at the time and informed me that she can squeeze me in as her next appointment was at 6:45PM but next time have an appointment when there's a sign in the window indicating walk-ins are welcome. So I sat down as she entered my information into the system. I initially told her I wanted a low fade with a 1 on the side and a 0 at the top but immediately realized I wanted that in reverse so I told her. She then began to ask further questions about how low I want the top when I feel like I just told you. I began thinking since I didn't really like the way she approached me as I entered, I don't want to spend my money here so I politely stated that's ok, no disrespect but I'll go somewhere else. She asked if it was because she was a white girl and I explained to her that I have an interview tomorrow and I just didn't feel welcomed. She expressed she believed it was due to her being white. No, Casaundra, it was due to your poor customer service and professionalism. I've been having all kinds of women cut my hair for the past 2 years so it was not due to the color of your skin but the shade of your character. read more

the person casaundra who cut my hair did a terrible job, do not come here. i had ask her to cut 6 on the sides and cut off one inch off the top with scissors so i don't even know why she thought it normal to cut my hair so short with just scissors. she decided without asking right before cutting, to cut off most of my hair and leave only maybe 1 and half inch of hair on top. she said i didn't have to pay for the hair cut but still this is extremely unexpectable since she never double checked and instead talked about other things that weren't hair related. this ruined my entire face shape and i haven't been able to look in the mirror since. read more

It was obvious this morning that the barber asked me what I wanted in a haircut, and it was just as obvious that I got nothing close to what I asked him for. My appointment was for back and sides, a trim, cut with scissors - and I asked him not to cut the top of front of my hair. It's going to take months for my hair to grow enough to be the length I requested. It would be better if you listen to what your customers request instead of just cutting how you feel. Ok I will say I have been here twice and the first time Robbie gave me the best haircut of my entire life. However I recently made the worst decision of my entire life by booking an appointment with Giovanni for a fade... There aren't words strong enough in the English language, or any language for that matter, for how wretched my hair looks. He moved my part up an inch and basically gave me what looks like a mohawk trying to escape off of the front of my head. I asked for a damn fade, I'll remind you. I will be wearing a hat every day for the next 2 months because he was either too stoned or too stupid to do even a remotely "meh" job. Moral of the story ONLY BOOK ROBBIE NOT GIOVANNI. Just visited this place, and Joe Hardy, and I now have my favorite barbershop in Denver. It's a bit of a hole in the wall on a nondescript strip of E Colfax, but inside it's all traditional barbershop. Giovanni the owner is very nice and welcoming, as is his dog, Bodhisattva, who greets visitors. Joe is a transplant from the east coast, and I've never had a better haircut and beard trim experience. His technical skills are excellent. My haircut was exactly what I requested. Beyond the barbering skills, Joe does a beard conditioning/face massage process that made my beard feel better than it's ever felt, plus the massage was both relaxing and invigorating. It was like a spa experience for dudes in a barbershop. The price -- $45 for both haircut and beard trim/conditioning -- was a terrific value. Plus Joe is funny and friendly. I'm amazed this place is not yet packed every day! I've been coming here for two months now. Getting an appointment is still pretty easy at this point, but I fully expect this shop to be packed soon enough. Here's why I like this shop: The barber has actual talent. He's really good at hooking you up with a sweet coiffe and an excellent beard shaping or trim. Every time I come here, I leave looking exactly how I want to look. I think that is by far the most important attribute of a real barber shop. Next, the tunes! This place is always pumping some good rock (this shop really does have a good vibe). And last, the pricing! I find them to be moderately priced. While not dirt cheap, what do you pay is still a bargain for the level of skill you receive. (lets face it, with a $15 dollar haircut you get what you pay for, and you look like it too) You deserve better than that. come here instead! I'm glad this shop moved to town.
