One of the things I missed when I left Charlotte was this really nice pet store that made delicious, natural dog treats. When my significant other stumbled upon this local gem while on a quest to find a harness vest for our pups, I was giddy as can be. This place sells all kinds of delightful things for your pets, from natural healthy treats to dog accessories. Any place that has a bakery display case for dog treats is a winner in my book. They carry a lot of delightful treats for dogs which are all natural and often grain free. My pets loved the treats from the case, which were reasonably-priced (less than two dollars for the smaller treats). I won't lie - some of their food or treats are a little on the pricey side, but everything there seems to be high quality. If you are not sure if your pup will like some of their treats, they will also offer you some little packs of free treat samples. I discovered some great treats with beef liver than my pups enjoy. The staff is also super friendly and helpful when you come in. I am so glad I can bring my pups with me to check this place out. I highly recommending giving this place a try. read more

We are very disappointed in Barkery. We had been going to Georgia for 2 years for grooming our Shih Tzu. She originally said she needed 90 minutes, then a few months later, an hour was enough. Last month she was done in 45 minutes. I could tell she was hurried and called to see if someone else did her. That was not the case. She was due today for a groom, so we asked if Georgia had an hour set for the groom. We were then told they could not accommodate us, and we should find another groomer. The owner, Michele, was very rude. I called today to speak to Georgia to tell her how much we will miss seeing her and she will be in our prayers. They blocked my calls. After reading reviews I can see we are not the only ones that have a problem with the owner. We have a friend that was told her dog would take an hour to groom. They put her in a crate and wasn't done until 3 hours later. They used to care about their clients, but no more. WE do not recommend this business. read more

I chose this salon because of their positive reviews and trusted them with my dog. If I had known she was going to be shaved nearly bald, I could have done that at home myself. At drop-off, we were told she would need to be cut short due to matting, which we understood and agreed to for her comfort. However, when I picked her up, she was shaved almost completely bald -- including her face and head -- which drastically changed her appearance. When I questioned why her head and face were cut so short, I was told she had mats there. The owner later acknowledged that she "did not" have matting on the top or sides of her head. That contradiction is extremely concerning. There is a significant difference between "cut short" and shaving a dog down entirely. For a $110 service, clearer and more honest communication should be standard. A full refund was discussed, and I am still waiting for confirmation on how that will be handled. read more

UPDATE as of 2/3/2026: The insanely bold owner Mishelle Shump has reached out to my vet office requesting my dogs medical records. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. To think your dog will be in the care of these money hungry people is very concerning. Instead of caring about the well being of an animal you are going above and beyond to try to avoid paying for the dogs vet bill. Please keep in mind we are talking about $143.23. These people are in desperate need of money which is why they are going above and beyond to try and protect themselves. They don't care about your pets and will not support you in any way that does not result in a profit for their little business. This should have been handled differently and professionally. My dog's dew claw was completely cut off during a grooming appointment at The Barkery Bistro on Augusta Street. When I picked my dog up, she was actively bleeding onto my sweatshirt. She was clearly in pain and distressed. Even after seeing her bleeding, they still charged me, only reducing the grooming fee by "half." It wasn't until I realized the severity of the injury and brought it to their attention later that they refunded that charge. I took my dog to the vet and consulted other groomers, all of whom expressed shock at the injury and how much pain my dog must have been in during the grooming. Instead of taking responsibility, the owners Mishelle Shunp and her son JJ Shump tried to pressure me into signing a mutual release. I told them I would not sign anything. I provided photos and vet documentation and requested reimbursement for the vet bills. Since then, they have gone completely silent and are refusing to reimburse me. This was not a minor accident. This was a serious injury, handled with zero accountability and zero respect. I would never trust this business with another animal and strongly warn others to think twice. I've also added the poorly written "mutual release" that they tried to get me to sign. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE. read more

The guy working at the front desk did not say anything to me. And the groomer did not say that to me either. They were both behind the desk pulling out their phones and looking at the computer looking all confused like that my dog wasn't on their schedule but she was supposed to be. And also my dog was barking at the same time and there were dryers going off in the back ground so it was very hard to hear as well. But I'm positive that nobody said anything to me that they were running behind because if I heard that I would've been like oh ok no worries thanks for letting me know. Also if they were running behind, they should've texted us in advance so my dog didn't have to stay there for 3 hours. And that you said you put her on rotate because all of the groomers did not want to groom her, then why did you send us an email stating that you scheduled our dog with one of the groomers but actually didn't. My dog is the absolute sweetest girl and loves people so I know it's not her. Do not put this on me or my dog. And you should never put the blame on the customers and your son said that my dog was acting all crazy. Yes she was probably crazy because she was stuck in a crate for 2 hours. Way longer than she was supposed to be in there for. And he should not have said that. You guys did not call us with an update, we were all worried because usually it takes an hour. Not 3. I had an awful experience getting my dog groomed here. I picked my dog up and she seemed fine, but when she was in the car I noticed that her nails were bleeding. Her nails were cut so short that she was bleeding. I was told on the phone that my Golden Retriever's groom would be $80 but when I paid it was $105. My poor 10 month old will probably be traumatized about going to the groomer now. I don't recommend. read more

My dog had a grooming appt and when I arrived I was told that the groomer no longer worked there but went to different location. I was upset so I took my dog and left. Michelle proceeded to call and leave a VM stating that I was going to be charged for a "No Show" - I called back only to receive a comment stating that SHE thought is would be OK for me to have someone else. She argued with me about seeing other groomers only for me to tell her that I only saw other groomers is when I arrived and the ones I scheduled with had either left or werent' working. I love taking my fur baby here, they are so helpful and friendly. Their main focus is the "barkery" items they sell, but they also carry various pet supplies from food to leashes. They also have a groomer onsite as well. The treats they sell are made with all human grade ingredients and come in all shapes and sizes. Recently, they added frozen treats. Extremely disappointed with my dogs grooming today. Very uneven sections throughout his coat and was charged for services that I never requested. Was also charged a 'extra care' fee due to him being difficult during grooming and was asked if he had ever been groomed before. I have never been charged this fee when dealing with his prior groomer nor any negative comments on his behavior. Will not be going back and do not recommend. read more

I went here today for the first time today and I was impressed! I took my little guy Oliver in for a scheduled nail trim. I wanted somewhere near my house that I could get in and out of fairly quickly. The employees were kind and very bubbly! They seem to really enjoy being there and greeted my dog enthusiastically. Oliver's nail trim was done quickly and professionally while I walked around the adorable pet boutique and purchased some organic treats for my second dog that has a very sensitive stomach. Talked to one sales person and she told me that they could hold my dog while was running errands after a nail trim. I showed up for my appointment a few minutes early and the store was closed and the sales person acted as if I was ruining her day and I was so rude to show up early. I told her I was running late for something and she did not care one bit and was actually bothering her to ask for something I was promised previously. She was more concerned on getting to the bottom who would promise me that rather than customer service. I have bought things here several times. The people and resident dogs are always nice and helpful. I agree that they give you time and space to look at your leisure which is great since I like to look at everything before I decide what to get. The Barkery Bistro has friendly service but they give you enough room to look around and browse at your own pace. The place is dog friendly as long as your dog is friendly! None of the biscuits I have purchased there have ever been turned down by a pup. They are made will ingredients that are all human safe, too, so you know it's okay for your four legged friend!
