My dog Jack loves going to the Barking Spot daycare. He has been going there for 4 years. The staff gives special care to all the dogs. They Know their names and personalities. The Owners are also wonderful to work with and care about each dogs stay.

*Beware boarding your dog at The Barking Spot. My daughter and her boyfriend boarded their puppy Bear from 7/24-7/31. I dropped him off for them in perfect condition, with three toys. My daughter and her boyfriend picked them up today and notice him squirming once they handed him to them. There was a substance smearing all over the floor when he moved his paws and they believed it to be mud. However, as they took a closer look and smelled it, it was blood all over his paws. The front desk lady stood up and checked them out and said "Look he may have pricked his paw on something." She brought out hydrogen peroxide and ointment to put on his paws. She scrambled for another excuse that "he has delicate puppy paws." The owner said "he didn't know what could've hurt his paws as there was no blood in his run" They asked for his 3 toys back and only were returned two that were soaking wet. They were stunned and left in shock. As they took a closer look at him in the car they noticed his paws were burnt raw. The pictures are posted below. My daughter's boyfriend tried to call to figure out what actually happened and the owner said he would call him back as he had a full lobby. When he called back again he proceeded to tell them that Bear's paws were burnt raw and what would have caused that. The owner was defensive in his tone and said that there was nothing that he could have burnt them on as their patio is covered. He was trying to think of a solution but could not give him one. He further said that he would like some of the money back to cover vet bills and he refused because he was housed for 7 days. And he said he understood that he housed him for seven days, and then the owner hung up on him mid-sentence. This is extremely unprofessional for a business that you entrust your dogs with to oversee their overall health and well-being while you are away. Again, his paws were in perfect condition when dropped off, as they do not take him on walks on hot days. Please stay away from this business, we should have listened to the reviews and the complaints about the owner's behavior.

I had a poor experience with Paula who is one of the owners. I typed up my whole experience and added it as a FB review (Yelp has a character limit). Basically, my dog has throw up/pooped out plastic and I eventually got banned because I was rude in a text when in reality I wasn't. ***MY REVIEW WAS DELETED FROM THEIR FB PAGE. I added screenshots to this review.***

First off I'll start of by saying this place came highly recommended to me by a co-worker so we wanted to give them a try we are new to the area. Our first warning sign was when I called to set up a reservation and had to call and leave a message twice in two days to receive a call back. The lady who contacted me was very short and direct not personable at all. I have two older maltipoos and one of them is on seizure medication and the lady stated medications were no issue that they keep record and never have any problems.. I should have reconsidered after that phone call when the employee acted like I was overconcerned about my babies medication. We did end up going through with the reservation and the drop off was pleasant enough although the front desk girl seemed more interested in her cell phone than my family at first but that's how young people are my husband assured me. We tried calling to check on them a couple times and could never get no one on the phone. We finally got a call back the night prior to picking them up. They assured me everything went fine, and my babies had a good time and no issues with meds or eating. When we got home I counted out the remainder of the pills and several doses were NOT GIVEN! I keep a very detailed account of her quantity because missing doses with her condition can be fatal! I contacted them about this immediately and spoke to the owner who ASSURED me nothing was missing and that she personally seen the meds given. I do not believe this one bit. Needless to say we will never board their again and caution highly against anyone using their services in the future. They very well could have caused my baby to have serious medical issues! read more

I have been using The Hairy Moose Pet Retreat for over 15 years now to board our dogs. These people remember you and your pets and truly love what they do. When we were expecting our first child, they gave us their personal cell numbers so we could call them when my wife went into labor, and even offered to come to our home to pick up our dog if we couldn't drop her off before we went to the hospital! Our dog was older and had some trouble adjusting to our new addition, especially as she had some health issues and cried constantly, and they kept our dog for months at a reduced rate - just to help us out. I would recommend The Hairy Moose and their owners to anyone! read more

We have entrusted our beloved "fur child" to the wonderful folks at the Hairy Moose for 11 years. We even got our second "fur child' from their rescue program. The owner does not hire anyone who does not love animals and provides excellent quality care. The staff truly looks after each pet and makes sure they are happy and well-cared-for. I wouldn't take my dogs to anyone else. They will tell you honestly if your pet boards well or has trouble with a kennel environment. Who could ask for more? The facility is clean and in good order, and the staff works hard to provide a clean, safe, comfortable place for the pets. Their services are reasonably priced, and the staff will take time to answer any questions. read more

THE HAIRY MOOSE KILLED MY SISTER'S DOG!!!! BEWARE! In late April 2017, my sister took her two beloved Bichons to the Hairy Moose so she could take a much needed long weekend in St. Louis. This was the first time she took her pets to this kennel because they boasted about their pet rescue, etc. My sister does and always has given her dogs and cats top notch care, so naturally she took her Bichons, Max and Abby to their vet in Gallatin the day before they went to the Hairy Moose. They each got a clean bill of health from their vet. After 4 days in St. Louis, my sister returned home and went to pick up Max and Abby. When she got to the Hairy Moose they told her one of the dogs had been vomiting but they did not know which one.....what??...they didn't know which dog was sick?? My sister took Max and Abby home and she soon realized Abby was the sick one because she quickly started vomiting and having diarrhea with blood in it all over her house. Abby was very lethargic and wouldn't eat and neither would Max, which was very strange. She called her vet and the vet recommended bringing Abby in the following morning if she wasn't better. The next morning, Abby was doing much better, she was a little peppier and started to act a little normal. My sister was relieved thinking all was well. But that was not the case, a few hours later, Max started vomiting uncontrollably and had diarrhea with blood in it. Max was extremely lethargic and was moaning as if he were in pain. It was Saturday afternoon at this point and my sister felt that he would recover as Abby did. By Sunday afternoon, Max was not any better, so she took him to the emergency clinic in Rivergate, where they did a blood panel on him and his levels were all over the place. The clinic diagnosed him with renal failure and dehydration and kept him overnight on a drip. Early Monday morning, my sister picked him up from the clinic and took him to her regular vet where her vet confirmed that Max and Abby both had renal failure due kennel stress. Her vet kept Max overnight on a drip hoping he would improve, but Max died the following day, Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The Hairy Moose is very over-crowded with animals. It is extremely loud 24/7, very filthy and the pets are not given the care they deserve. Max and Abby both came out of the kennel dehydrated, so it is questionable if they feed the dogs or give them water. The Hairy Moose is the equivalent of an over-crowded county jail. My sister called the owner of the Hairy Moose the following day, Wednesday, who quickly went on the defense. She wanted the name and the phone number of her vet, which my sister gladly gave her. The owner, Prisi stated she would call her vet and get back with my sister. That was one week ago. My sister confirmed with her vet that Prisi called her, but Prisi has not called my sister back. My sister has called the Hairy Moose and texted Prisi multiple times, but she will not return her calls/texts. If you care about your pets, do not take them to the Hairy Moose. They do not care about your fur babies and they do not care about you. You honestly would be better off putting a large bowl of water outside and leaving your dog in your backyard to fend for themselves while you are away. read more

We were worried about our Doberman, it was his first boarding experience. Sir Mac isn't use to being around other dogs. After his first visit, he was all tuckered out from the exercise he was able to get, without being around other dogs. We decided to observe his behavior the second time. Would he plant his feet and refuse to go inside? Nope, not at all, just the opposite. Not only was he excited to be there, the staff remembered his code commands. He actually ran to his lodging area! The staff really loves animals. They play with them, let them run in a safe area, feed them on a schedule, and really get to know them. Our next trip out of town will be for the birth of our grandbaby. They are on stand-by, no reservation, since you never know when a baby will come. Mac, husband, and I are so blessed to have found Hairy Moose! OH, and they have outdoor runs. That's hard to find around Nashville, TN. Thank you Hairy Moose, Not your average bed and biskit :) read more

Luckily I happen to be able to quickly send my son to get her and rush her to the vet where she suffered a broken leg. She was covered in feces and urine which obviously as she was hurt and scared. They do not have cameras or anyone who monitors the dogs at night so they have no idea how long she was trapped. When we forwarded the vet bill to them they said it was the dogs fault as they should have been resting peacefully. Like I think they are confused as these are dogs. They mentioned they waived the $100 boarding fee and that should be enough. Our dogs are not puppies they are not rowdy they are senior dogs at 9 and 12 and are small Shih Tzus. If you have dogs boarding here I would inspect the runs and would seriously question should you continue. They are obviously another business in it for the money and not for the care of our fur babies. There is so many better options in Sumner County.

I scheduled a tour in advance online, and received a very thorough explanation of the Yardstick difference. There are three different play areas for small, medium, and large dogs. During a regular daycare visit, your dog gets a short break in their own kennel area around midday, before jumping back in for afternoon play. An all-day daycare visit will run you $45, and they do offer a trial day for new guests for $25. The entire facility is cute and clean - but I have to say it's the customer service that stands out most. The Yardstick team sends me adorable (and detailed) photo updates throughout the day, reinforcing that I've left my fur baby in excellent hands. Every time I drop my dog off, they greet her by name and genuinely seem excited to see her. Big thanks to the entire Yardstick team for taking such good care of our pup! We'll continue to bring her by as often as possible for some of the best doggie daycare in town!

Like many folks have said in these reviews, everything about NHA was great---the workers, the…read morefacility, the adoption process, etc. But for the love of God, PLEASE stop the high-pressured insurance "consultation" by Fetch insurance at the end! We had already (gladly) spent an hour and a half at the shelter to adopt two kittens when we were directed to a dude sitting at a desk right in the middle of the lobby. We were told he was doing "post-adoption consultation" which was total BS. He made a few vague comments about kitten health and then jumped right into a hard sell for pet insurance. As others have said, guilt and pressure tactics are used in hopes of catching new owners, who want to do everything right for their new pet, at a vulnerable time. Like so many others, we fell for it, only to later realize that the insurance ($80 a month for 2 kittens) was insanely high! We cancelled as soon as we looked through the paperwork and saw that we had been taken. Luckily, Fetch refunds 100% in the first 30 days. We may use another insurer, but cornering and guilting new pet owners in the middle of a noisy and hectic shelter certainly put us off from EVER using Fetch. So a word of advice: if you adopt and they want to send you over to "post-adoption counseling," just say NO! Let them know that you're aware that it's just an insurance hard sell and that you prefer to research insurance options on your own. And as others have pointed out, avoid Murphy Road Animal Hospital at all costs! That's where the "free" exam is offered, but that vet clinic is notorious for horrific over-charging and poor care. Most vet clinics have discounts for initial wellness exams, and no vet is "free" since you still have to pay for shots.

In March, 2026, my wife and I adopted a 2-1/2 month old female Pit Rat terrier mix. She is full of…read moreenergy and very sweet. She has been suffering from constant urinary problem. She's almost 5 months now and obviously a puppy so pee accidents are expected. However, this is constant and sometimes she doesn't even realize she's going. Our vet has given 2 cycles of antibiotics and now says it's probably not infection. We changed vets and the new one tells us that being spayed at 2-1/2 months is WAY too soon and the hormone deficiency prior to a 1st heat cycle can cause all these problems and more! She could have lifelong urinary problems and is more susceptible to bone cancers, joint issues, as well as developmental issues. Early spaying is common practice at shelters but even the vet said that 2-1/2 months is just irresponsible on the part of Nashville Humane Association (NHA) and we are watching our new baby suffer everyday because they are in such a rush to process these puppies through the system for adoption. We would warn anyone adopting from NHA to ask questions about the early spay practices. FYI, a normal, healthy spay age is between 6 and 24 months. Adopt at your own risk (and puppy's) from a place like this.

I was given all the information I needed to comply with their very efficient process. It was my first visit to this facility. I have know it for years but was under a certain idea that it was just for low income individuals or feral animals. I had an opportunity to see my sweet friend and the director of the facility and she informed me that that is a common misconception. She said they take all folks and most animals. There are a few dog type they don't spay or neuter. They did an exceptionally wonderful job with my asshole cat. She would not wear the cone or a sleeve over the surgery. So, I just had to watch her and she did great. The wound healed great. She is still an asshole but a smidge calmer. I actually was not charged anything due to the fact that I am on Medicare, so it was a great value to me. My plan is to donate to them through their wish list/amazon. Thanks for all you all do for the animals

Please do not leave your animals!!! We had some damage to our home and had our dog there for 3 weeks while repairs were ongoing. I called often to check on her (I was always told she was doing fine)90and picked her up to spend days with us. She looked thinner but I figured new feed and a new environment were the reason. I picked her up yesterday (it had been 7 days since the last pickup) and she was drastically altered! Shin and bones, skin hanging and showing dehydration, coat dull, coarse and shedding by the handful, and she would not jump or play or even wag her tail!!! When given food and water, she lunged for it and ate ravenously. I videoed and took photos of all of this for documentation. I immediately called the vet. She had lost 12 pounds (the vet says she was definitely underfed) and tested positive for tape and whip worms (the vet says an improperly cleaned kennel from a previous dog is the likely culprit). Fortunately, with love, antibiotics and good food she will recover. Please take this to heart and choose somewhere else! read more

Our fur babies (Morgan and Lady) love their days at The Barking Spot so much that they are like kids on Christmas day every week. They go every Wednesday and know it because at 5am they are bouncing off the walls to wake us up and will not leave our side as we are getting ready for work until it's time to walk out the door. Paula and Don love our dogs as much as we love them and keep a watchful eye on them letting us know when Morgan didn't play as much as she normally does or how fearless Lady is when playing (she's a 30lb dog who thinks that she's a 90lb dog). We also spoil our pups with their own spa day each month by having them groomed at The Barking Spot as well. Paula and her team of groomers have been wonderful with them especially Lady who has never liked having her nails clipped until they started working with her (even the vet can't clip Lady's nails!). The rates are reasonable but most of all the love they provide for our fur babies is priceless! read more

My Lab Hope spent her first week in day care. Im so happy and pleased with the care she received. The facility is clean and when I drop her off she is happy, excited and ready to go. Im a handicapped senior and the drop off and pick up has been terrific and so helpful. Hope is so much calmer in the evenings. The play with other dogs has been so good for her.
