It's a great, central gathering place for your hipsters and professionals and families and everyone else. Excellent restaurants, cute shops, my favorite coffee shop on the planet (Taylor Maid), wine/beer/spirits tasting, juice bar, bakery, Community Market, liquid nitrogen ice cream (!!!), and great outdoor space... all in one block. I haven't lived in this area for long, but it hasn't taken long for it to become one of my favorite places to relax after a long work week. A lot of the time I enjoy just looking around all the shops or spending my day at the Taylor Maid Cafe doing work upstairs. There are a lot of nice offerings, and I love that they have a fireplace outside considering the days have been getting chillier. I usually prefer it more in the day time when it has more people, and it's bright out and has that nice bustle, but at night time it gets pretty quiet, and it's nice to get a sub-zero ice cream to eat in front of the huge fire :) read more

This place has been such a joy to really experience. It's walkable and there's a wide variety of different types of shops and restaurants. I had an office at this location and that was perfect. The Barlow is Sebastopol's new hot spot. It's a hipster hangout, along with a painted mandala at an intersection. It's Portlandia, but with Bay Area sensibilities. The Barlow used to be a handful of abandoned warehouses, Guayaki Yerba Mate was the sole business. Now it's gone upscale. One can watch craftsmen at work at the glass blowing place and the bronze foundry. Community Market offers everyday groceries&a book trading library. Taylor Maid's Coffee packs a punch (as does Guayaki's naturally caffeinated yerba mate) The Tibetan gallery is meditative. Ultra Crepes has an astounding array of the French pancakes. The Nectary has an amazing assortment of elixirs and smoothies. The Village Bakery is much more pleasant than its Santa Rosa location. There's plenty of outdoor dining space for people watching. read more

Sonoma County is NOT Wine Disneyland as we locals refer to the Napa Valley. The Barlow is the essence of what distinguishes Sonoma County and especially Sebastopol from the "luxury wine country tour bus" approach to our region. The Barlow as it begins to populate with artisan craftspeople specializing in bread, cheese, wine, beer and spirits will become a low key Mecca for the organic movement. Bravo to the developer and Sebastopol's Planning Commission: they got this one right.....and really have their finger on the pulse of what makes Sebastopol unique. Can you do something similar with the vacated Chevrolet dealer on the corner of Rte 12 and 116 ? read more

While I really have enjoyed my time at the restaurants and shops at The Barlow, I strongly suggest not considering them as a place to have your wedding. From the beginning the process has been extremely painful. Their team is young, disorganized, and unresponsive. For weeks we literally were trying to give them our money before researching other options and on four separate occasions they told us they sent us an email with pricing yet we never received it. It's 2015 and you don't know how to properly send an email? This made us extremely weary of how they would help us plan a successful wedding at the venue. As we began to do research on other venues in the area, we realized that for the money The Barlow asks for two empty rooms and a field of grass to have a ceremony, the value is really poor. At other venues where you pay the same amount of less, you get staff, tables/chairs, a wedding planner, and more. When I reached out to the owner to express my frustration regarding the lack of communication and to give him a heads up on what their competition offers, he told me that he really wanted to find a way to "win our business". What did he come back with? A suggestion that we push our wedding date 3-8 months down the road and that we shorten the time of the event so that we literally would have zero time for set-up. Clueless. I have planned many events for various occasions and I've never come across a more inflexible venue in my life. Thanks for wasting our time Barlow. read more

The concept is very cool. 3 of us came on Friday night to check it out. Lots of cool places but not a fan of so many breweries without their own food. We walked through the whole place, starving and none of us could decide on a place to eat. Shared tapas from breweries other than you are visiting didn't cut it for us. read more

I think the Barlow is a nice addition to the area. While it may be more on the high end/touristy side there was nothing here before so something is better than nothing! Parking is pretty easy to manuever. From there you will find a plethora of restaurants, boutiques, tasting rooms, a brewery, coffee shops, a community market and an ice cream shop. Locals do frequent the area but it really isn't a place to go if you're looking for cheap eats. It's kind of nice to walk around on a nice day and just hang out on a patio with a beer every once in a while. If you're new to the area it's worth checking out and since Sebastopol is so small you're actually close to the downtown area where there are more shops and a little park to hang out in. I haven't been to enough of the businesses to have an opinion of the whole Barlow. It's pretty calm and not too crazy here which is nice but the brewery does get pretty rowdy on the weekend. read more

So I've been wanting to go explore these new stores and tasting rooms. I was completely disappointed in these establishment. It was no pedestrian friendly and sinkage for businesses was poor. I can't believe the prices of these stores. The quality was not that great for the prices we paid. I was really hoping Sebastopol could make something out of this space. We absolutely loved our Barlow wedding! Kiara, the venue coordinator, was communicative and organized throughout the process and we genuinely enjoyed working with her. The great thing about The Barlow is that the venue space is beautifully simple. Unlike the all-inclusive venues where everyone's event looks pretty much the same besides the tablecloths and flowers, The Barlow provides a lovely space within which you can create whatever vision you want for your special event. We love that our wedding turned out to be a unique and personalized event that matched our style. The staff at the Barlow is incredibly knowledgeable about the space, able to provide guidance for layouts and rentals, and helpful with wedding questions in general! The bridal suite space is an added bonus: it is an incredibly pretty and relaxing space for getting ready, with lots of mirrors and natural light. We highly recommend this venue! read more

Great potential definitely. The community is sparsely populated as of this time. Most of the businesses were close on that Monday we visited. Only the ice cream shop, community market, two wineries, were open. Very clean area. Parking lot available. Clean restrooms. Nice staff in the community market. I am sure that in a few months or years, it will fill up like the Oxbow. We totally enjoyed the customized ice cream shop when we visited The Barlow. The ice cream was delish! Across from the Barlow is a haven for vegan/vegetarians alike in a railroad train station set-up. Recommended. I will review again The Barlow when traffic picks up . read more

Fun place to spend a few hours. Not too many stores, but if you have lunch, you can make an afternoon of it. Main street is really close so you can easily walk and shop there too (really just one solid block of shops.) Stylistically reminds me a lot of the riverfront area in Napa. Overall, a great place to go if you're a first timer to Sebastapol, but now that we've been, not sure we'd need to go back. read more

The Barlow is a cute place a bit snobbish although I'm not sure why? Don't ever venture into a clothes shop called Scout, the dog in which it's called after is adorable. However the owner not so much!! I've never been treated so badly in all my shopping life. They have a rare few pieces for sale which are so over priced and ugly and super poor quality. Anyways go in to say hi to the dog ( the owner has Scout the dog there but really doesn't like people petting him) so beware of owner!!! read more

Unless you have gobs of money, don't bother with the Barlow. Another nouveau riche wannabe filled with nothing of substance for the locals. The biggest disappointment was Community Market. Their pricing is totally out of whack with anything resembling affordability. They should take Community out of their name, unless they want to just cater to folks who have money. Really, you can buy most of their products at any store. Olivers and Whole Foods comes to mind. Never thought I would see pricing higher than those two places. Not one store in this place reflects any intentions of selling to locals. Besides that, even before it was opened we had to park clear around the corner just to go to the movies. As if parking wasn't bad enough already. The "opening" yesterday was ridiculous with food trucks and little "vendors" not associated with the Barlow selling their wares. That at least was enjoyable. Thanks Sebastopol for making one more reason to not shop locally. read more

The barlow is a major disappointment, to say the least. It would fit right into Napa, Healdsburg or Sonoma, but not here. To put it mildly, it is a yuppy, wine country tourist trap. There's no soul, spirit or warmth there. The cold buildings are made of steel, glass & concrete, with a sterile warehouse atmosphere. Everything is about buying & selling overpriced products. Even the 'non-profit' stores are too expensive. The drinking establishments leave much to be desired, let alone the restaurants. The last thing we need in Sebastopol is any more wine tasting rooms. I was really looking forward to this area opening up beforehand, but not anymore. The faux brewpub is more like a $winebar, with hi food prices, small portions, & lousy service. There are many places in Sebastopol where you can get good food & drink at reasonable prices, so why bother to come here? All of the locals that I have spoken to that have visited the barlow didn't like it & would never return. I'm sure the rents are high & I was told that the merchants have to pay part of their profits to the landlord, so we all have to pay the price. This is the worst thing that has ever happened to $ebastopol so far. I hope it all goes bankrupt. read more

The Barlow concept is good, just not nearly enough there yet. Biggest problem I found on my first visit today is that there are NO directories showing stores and locations. There are a few signs but not nearly enough. I know there are a lot of vacancies now but for God's sake, tell people what is there and where! I think this place will work but the wayfinding is awful right now. read more

This is a very cool little spot. I liked the wine tasting at Macphail, the beer at the Crooked Goat, and the spirits at Spirit Works. The service was amazing at Macphail and Spirit Works. They took really good care of us based on our individual likes and dislikes. I did not like UltraCrepe as the crepes were bland and the service was rude. The Barlow Is amazing! 5 tasting rooms, 2 breweries, a distillery and Guayaki Yerba matte, tailor made coffee, All this is still impressive to a non drinker. Great food Woodfour, Ultra Crepe, Guayaki, sub zero... i eat at all the restaurants regularly. Great shops! World renowned sculptors and glass blowers. Village Bakery! Three art galleries, including one where you can be the art: I get my hair done at Reframe Hair Gallery ( a beautiful space with some of Sonoma county's top stylists), which is just what Sebastopol really needed! Weather the Barlow is your main destination or just a stop on your trip, discovering it is sure to delight and fulfill a variety of your senses, and is worth enjoying alone or with friends. read more

We had our wedding reception at the Barlow in early July. We used the main reception area and the bridal suite we did not use the shed. The Barlow staff were spectacular, we worked with Kiara she was our main contact for the entire planning process, she was very responsive to emails and was willing to do multiple site visits with our vendors. We were able to use some vendors that were not on the Barlow recommend list and Kiara helped us navigate the paperwork we need from our vendors. The week of the wedding Kiara was in constant contact with me and my wedding planner and she was on site for our whole day. I would highly recommend the Barlow, it has a very unique industrial feel with a mix of the wine country perfect for Sonoma County weddings. read more

Overall we are very happy that we picked the Barlow for our April wedding in Sebastopol. What we really liked about the Barlow, and why we ultimately chose the space, was that we liked the destination-wedding feel it had while being close to the Bay Area and the freedom to create the wedding we wanted. We also loved the proximity to the Sebastopol Inn and the Fairfield Inn, it allowed our guests the opportunity to have a good time without us providing transportation or them attempting to drive home. Our guests ended up loving the area and enjoyed the shops within the Barlow, while others went wine tasting in their free time. We had 155 guests and we think that was a perfect number of guests, it never felt crowded and everyone fit comfortably in The Warehouse for dinner. We had our ceremony on the lawn, cocktail hour on the terrace, dinner in the Warehouse and dancing on the terrace. We loved having the whole day in one space; we had some older guests that were able to get from space to space without any trouble. We also tried to utilize the surrounding Barlow community as much as possible in the wedding: Vigenette was our caterer, California Sister Floral Design Co provided our flowers and Village Bakery made the pies for our wedding. People raved about all three. Vignette's food was incredible, the flowers were beautiful and the pie was devoured. We would highly recommend working with all three. We really enjoyed having these vendors know the space so intimately and we think that convenience saved us a lot of headaches. We were really happy with our wedding and would strongly recommend The Barlow as a wedding venue. read more

In search of a plant-based snack at 4pm ... waited in line for 15 minutes at The Village Bakery to be informed the kitchen was closed, no problem, headed to the Crepe place to wait 15 minutes while the cook attempted to make three crepes using ONE of the three crepe grills at her disposal. She then botched the crepe and thew it away, started it from scratch, and further confounding her, the family waiting for their disjointed meal ordered an additional crepe right as some guy walked by and shouted to the cook in disgust, "Just cancel my order," and then I realized she had yet to even acknowledge my presence even though I wasn't three feet from her, so, I too walked away in disgust. Ultimately, I paid $10 for a plate of veggies at the Pizza place, who couldn't serve me outside unless I sat at their one table in the shade, so I had to order them in to-go packaging and eat them with a plastic fork because I was four steps from their official table ... and the veggies would have been pretty good if they would have been brought out to me warm, before I had to get up and go get them myself, but at that point I had given up finding any good food, decent prices or attentive service, so I just ate them. But WAIT, after I ate the $10 veggies, I went to Sub-Zero and got GREAT, knowledgable service and a fantastic Almond Milk Yogurt ice "cream," with peanut butter and chopped almonds that was out of this world. Not cheap, but worth every penny. And, one of the workers came from behind the counter to make sure the fire pit was on for us. Next time, I'll eat a sandwich at home and head to Sub-Zero for dessert!! Or, skip the sandwich, and order a LARGE Sub-Zero creation. read more
