I spent less than 5 minutes telling them who the flowers were for and what I wanted (I didn't really know but just didn't want to show up with a massive arrangement but wanted something nice..). When I picked them up the next day, the flowers were perfect! High quality, fragrant and colorful. Absolutely nailed it! Thanks ladies!!

Just like that, brusque, no warmth. No acknowledgement that they skipped a whole work day, and again nothing welcoming. Completely understand that businesses get busy, kudos!, but if you're trying to welcome new business or strengthen a reputation as a caring business - this is hardly the way to do it. Called back just to let somebody know what happened - since I have no idea if this was the owner who called back that brusquely or an employee - and again no apology just "sometimes we just get busy" ... and did I still need flowers...? Ummmm - yes: 2 days ago. We are all very busy (especially these days) - including new customers reaching out for your business. Since this business seems unaware: if a person calls around saying they're from out of state looking for a florist for a friend who is suffering (I left a clear voicemail -because it WAS important and timely) and you wait 2 days, they likely have moved on to businesses who welcome their call and seem welcoming.

And while I've never been a "dahlia person" I have to admit, I fell in love with the wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes of these beautiful flowers. The festival itself is pretty sparse - there was a large parking area (free), a not-very-well stocked gift shop, and a single food truck. Amenities included a couple of picnic tables and a few port-a-potties. But let's face it, the reason we were there wasn't for any of this. It was for the dahlias! There were rows and ROWS of these beauties. So many rows that I lost count, and honestly my brain got a bit of dahlia fatigue after we'd made our way through about 2/3 of the rows. It was amazing, though, to see the different colors. From simple white dahlias to stunning, multi-colored, ombre dahlias. Some of the flowers were more of the classic round shape most of us associate with dahlias, while others were more of your "typical" flower shape with pointy petals. In between there were dahlias that looked like exploded fireworks, dahlias that looked like bumble bees, big dahlias, GIANT dahlias, tiny dahlias...it was really pretty overwhelming but incredibly beautiful. And each grouping of dahlias was labeled, so it was easy to decide which bulbs to pre-order for your own garden before leaving. We also saw a few people with easels, doing some dahlia painting. And we did stop at the Feast food truck, which was good but WOW we paid $15 for literally a small bowl of food - it was pretty shocking. Oddly, there was no place to sit and eat even remotely near the food truck - we ended up just standing there and eating, otherwise we would have had to carry our food back through the dahlia field to the seating area. There was also no place to wash our hands near the food truck. Minor detail but kinda weird. But, like I said, we didn't go for the food or the festivities, we went for the dahlias. And they did not disappoint!

They all are somewhat dry and old looking. The $30 dahlia probably was in demand and this is what they likely had left. I will never order from this place again. I can understand shipping it so late. I can overlook that they were all in one bag with the variety stamped on it but they were all very small and all sold at a premium price. Never again. triple wren. It's more like triple waste of money.

It is not huge, but somehow I almost always find the perfect thing, whether it is a hostess gift, a small thoughtful present, or just something I decide I need for myself. Their gift selection feels really unique and not like the usual stuff you see everywhere else. They also have really nice greeting cards at super reasonable prices, usually about half of what you would pay at the pharmacy, and they feel so much more personal than those generic cards. It is one of those places that just feels special when you walk in, and I pretty much always leave with something I love.

Tom, at Vanwingerden, agreed to take my seeds and germinate them. He sent me pictures of the plants germinated in April and told me I could pick them up in "a month or so". Some didn't come up and I told him not to worry about those ones. The deal was I would buy the starts back. I called before mother's day to pick up the starts with no response. I called after mother's day only to discover Tom gave away ALL the plants to one of his employees. Not only did he give this employee the plants, he gave her ALL my seeds as well and then tells me he doesn't want to bug her to ask for anything back because of a loss in her family. Why would I bring seeds in and give them to their office if I didn't want the plants? Why would he get my hopes up by sending me a picture of the plants? What would ever make him think it was ok to give away my heirloom seeds? I blindly trusted and shouldn't have. The whole thing makes no sense at all and I feel totally robbed.
