The price does not match the food - got the lamb and the seafood dish, the lamb did not have much flavor and the seafood assortment was also blah, swimming in the tomato sauce that might have as well come from a can. Went to The Barn in January 2021 and Spring House this June. Beautiful venues and terrific food. Sometimes the dish can be a little too salty - like the stuffed fluke we had in June. Absolutely amazing dinner! We come to the island every year, and will definitely be coming back to The Barn! I made reservations a few weeks ahead of time because I was told it can be hard to get in without one. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and were sat immediately. I'm not one who cares about water (tap is fine), but I must say the bottle of still water they brought us was probably the best water I've ever had. Never thought I'd say that about water! The bartender also crafted me a delicious custom cocktail based on my favorite ingredients! We had the beef tartar for an appetizer, absolutely amazing. I got the filet mignon and it was cooked absolutely perfectly (I asked for rare). The whole dish/flavor was out of this world. Husband got the special which was a T-bone and he loved it, I tried a bite and it was really good! We didn't have any dessert, too full! The atmosphere was upscale and not loud. We come to the island for a week or so every summer and the Spring House has been our date night choice for the last two years, after trying every restaurant over the past twelve years. Eating outside on the top of the gorgeous lawn gives a great view. The food is very good to excellent, the service is outstanding. Leave room for dessert. read more

I am very disappointed to write this review because the Spring House is a place myself, my family, and my friends, have all frequented for many years. We made brunch reservations (on the veranda) for our party. The staff was very unorganized. In particular, the manager, Ryan, was rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful. Our party was moved *4 times* and we were subsequently scolded by staff for *them moving us*. We then were confronted by the manager who was very curt and dismissive. We ended up returning our menus and leaving after this unpleasant experience and would like to talk to the owner. I would also note that we held a large event here and many of our photos are prominently featured on the company website and social media. read more

Went here to celebrate our anniversary (with our 3 kids in tow), got 8:15 pm reservations and it was packed with people who looked very happy. Our waitperson was Irena, who was terrific. Got drinks going and appetizers - split the wood grilled shrimp with a nice spicy sauce and split the wood fired Caesars salad with my husband, interesting and tasty. Typically, I hate croutons, I really liked the ones they made. I got the special - PEI mussels and crostini - nicely cooked with a delicious broth. My husband enjoyed his cod, my son had a massive steak and potatoes and asparagus, that he decimated. Girls both had the Caesar salad, one with steak tips that she enjoyed. Two kids got cheesecake and one got the chocolate flourless cake - both came with cream and fruit and looked lovely - there was not a speck left. Fun to watch the chefs at work, smiling and knocking out food. The atmosphere is comfy and comforting, like home, except you have no responsibilities. We went in with high hopes of a beautiful last night on the island. The location was spectacular and the ambiance was very nice. My mother, aunt, & I enjoyed our charcuterie board, mushroom soup, and espresso martinis. However, the night went downhill after we notified our waitress that she ordered the incorrect pasta dish for our entree. She took the dish back begrudgingly and told us she thought we ordered it even though we did not. No apology was given. After we finished our meal the dish was taken from our table and we never saw our server again. We also had to ask multiple times for our waters to be refilled. After 30 minutes of us waiting to be acknowledged we decided to forgo the dessert we so heavily wanted and asked a random employee to bring us either the manager or check because of the extreme wait time. She didn't seem concerned about our disappointment or willing to find a manager so we paid for our meal. All she wanted to know was if we wanted dessert or the check. Although we saw the employee notify our server of the issue she continued to avoid our table and no sincere apology was given again. As someone who works in the industry I was incredibly disappointed in the service. The lack of attention and care for someone's experience was appalling. I find it hard to believe I will ever return due to that. read more

This place was awesome! I went to martini night with my girlfriends and we had a ball! Lots of drinking and dancing and tons of friendly and fun people! We went first for dinner which was great but the service was lacking. Our waiter spilled for martinis and they tried to clear our table so fast to make room for dancing, leaving us rushing to finish eating. However the drinks were to die for! I tried the pomegranate (a little sweet for my liking), the blood orange (amazing!), and the espresso (my favorite!) The band was amazing and even let us sing into the microphone! Our food was okay but nothing to ride home about in comparison to other restaurants on our trip. My biggest concern was the live music and seeing a significant amount of people on the lawn. Few were wearing masks based on my observations and it just was not a responsible move to allow congregating like that in my personal opinion. The service on the other hand...very nice but we sat for about 15 minutes before asking for someone to come serve us and get a drink order in. (Mind you the restaurant was empty, we were 1 of 2 tables) and then when we did have a server she didn't go over any specials or greet us very friendly. Spectacular on all accounts. If you're on Block Island you have to stop at the Spring House for a drink on the veranda. The view from the deck is the best dining view on the island. I've been coming for 25 years and won't stop anytime soon. The staff is always so pleasant and accommodating. Martini night on Thursdays is one of the best times you can have away from the downtown crowd. This is a must visit spot on Block Island! read more

Took a trip to block island with my sister and ended up at this spot. It's well rated on google, and even decent on yelp, but our experience here was far from decent. We showed up around 8:00 and were told by the hostess that we had a 9:15 reservation. 9:15 came and went, and I had to go back to the hostess to check in on our reservation. When I did so, I quickly realized they had forgotten our table! They weren't even apologetic, they just looked at each other and said "we will seat you now". We were taken through the area with beautiful views to the back patio, where we were seated in the far back corner, next to the servers station. THERE SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT BE A TABLE HERE. It is hectic, loud and ... UGLY. Our candle wasn't even lit, when all the others were. We immediately felt put off by this. The waiter we had was nice, and I guess that helped, but the food we ordered (tempura cauliflower, calamari and a margarita pizza) was all sub-par. I wouldn't return or recommend this to anyone. It gives off a high end vibe, but it's crap. read more

Review for the Barn on Block Island: Sadly I have to move my 4 star review to a one star, because 0 is not possible. We made reservations for 8pm the night before since it was the last time available, and we arrived on time. They said they had a few people lingering on our table, and it would be a few minutes. After 40 minutes of waiting, we finally flagged the hostess down to try and find what was going on. She insisted we were on the list, but we could clearly see the reservation sheet and our name was not there. Instead of admitting the mistake, she kept telling us we were on the list, and after we said we didn't see our name she said they don't always write down all the names since the paper is small.... yeah right. It was 8:45 and we then called Mcalloons, who were very generous to accommodate us at the last minute and kept the kitchen open for us. We asked for a final time and they said 20-30 minutes max... you should not need to wait over an hour when making a reservation. Everyone makes mistakes, but the audacity to lie instead of admitting a simple mistake lost them dinner and drinks for 5 adults, and continued business every year moving forward that we return. There were so many things they could have done (buy us a round of drinks, been honest, offered to split up the group at 2 tables, to go orders, etc) but instead lied and lost customers instead of being honest. I am writing about the off season restaurant of the Spring House that's open behind the main hotel in what is referred to as "The Barn." I had a meal there on January 2nd and it was nothing less that fantastic. I ate with friends at the bar right in front of the chef's cooking the meals. There is table seating as well but it was fun to watch the chef's working their magic as we had our drinks before hand. I had cod with bok choy and a potato. It was without question the best prepared piece of fish I've ever had. Ever! The place is a little pricey for this time of year on Block Island but worth every penny. Can't wait to go back. Great atmosphere, excellent service and the chef's know what they are doing. The other 2 people I was dining with loved their meals as well. If you are on The Block this winter it is a place to eat that is not to be missed! read more

Went here for an anniversary dinner with my husband. If I could give 3.5 stars I would. The location is really special- we sat on the hill before dinner (all the adirondack chairs were taken) and had drinks. The bartender made us a great Manhattan. We made a reservation for the outside deck, so we didn't have to wait for our table at all. We were seated right on the edge of the patio and the view of the water and the moonlight was just lovely. We ordered a shrimp wrapped in ham appetizer, which was very good. The entrees were just average, which I was sad about. I had the lamb special, and the lamb was overcooked with a thick breading that kind of distracted from the taste. We had a panna cotta for desert which was good, but not great. So, a star each for the view/location, drinks, and service (we loved our waiter, Joe). I had to take a star away for the food and price (we had better meals on the island for much cheaper). But, I'd definitely recommended stopping by the Spring House at least once while on Block Island to take in the lovely scenery and sip a delicious cocktail. read more

My review is for The Barn. It was a wonderful meal. The crab cakes were good albeit small, the sauce was top shelf, soup and salad perfectly prepared. The calms and linguine was delicious, but a lot of the linguine was stuck together and hard. The steak was the reason for the loss of a star, cooked properly, but it was the very chemicaled......and tasteless. Also, service was nonexistent for the first 15 minutes. We will go back because there was so much done beautifully with the food. I will demand better, more attentive service. Reservations were honored as made, with table ready. read more

The location is one of my favorites on block island which I tried to get to at least once a year. Sitting on the veranda is very special. The only issue I had was the music was blasting and I did tell them to lower it. I guess I'm getting to be one of those old people, lol. It just did not fit the elegance of the venue. I have been here before and had some of the best dinners lunches even stay at the hotel. I ordered a beat salad with lobster. It was over $30 and the lobster was very small in a tiny dish. I needed a microscope to see it. The soup and appetizer which was conch with lobster and fries were great. A $50 lunch is what you pay for when you get a view. Went to Spring House for the first time ever and it was amazing!! Had the scallops wrapped in bacon and deviled eggs for starters, then the pasta and clams and a special for entrees. Everything was great. Sat outside and our server Danielle was simply awesome. She was on point from start to finish. Friendly and attentive. After lunch we finished our drinks on the chairs on the lawn. Definitely get there if you are on the island. Only a quarter mile up from the boat. Get there and ask for Danielle.
