A few months ago my dog was viciously attacked by a large Rottweiler. It took this facility over an hour to finally get in contact with my mother that my dog was even attacked. They called her twice on a number that came up spam and did not leave any voicemail. On top of that, instead of bringing my dog to her vet, that was not far from Barrie's Inn, (the vet we listed in her paperwork) they brought her to some hole in a wall vet that knew nothing about my dogs health background or allergies. When I went back to ask how this happened they brought me to the play area and showed me the fence that they claimed at first "She jumped over" I told them my dog does not do that and they watched video and saw my dog open it herself with her nose. When I asked if the dog who attacked my dog has ever been aggressive they said yes and thats why She was separated from the other dogs. That information showed me they are so desperate for a dollar they will keep an animal there that can harm someone else's. The owner never reached out to us after this incident that could have been a tragedy. DO NOT SEND DOG HERE IF U WANT THEM BACK IN 1 PIECE. read more

We take our 80 lb husky-mix rescue, Lucy, to the Barrie Inn for doggie-day-care, boarding and training. Desiree is a spectacular trainer. She's not a "dog trainer", she's a PEOPLE trainer! The dog just does whatever she does, as a dog, but Desiree taught us how to understand and deal with a big, smart and sometimes sneaky dog in a loving & caring way. We have a 4 year old, 85 pound Labradoodle with a lot of energy. He has always been sweet, but impulsive. He would steal food off the counter, steal socks, and run after other dogs without listening. Ellen worked with him for two weeks at the Barrie Inn and then came to our home to work with us in his environment. We also went to the Barrie Inn and practiced training him with Ellen. All the work has paid off. He is so much better, but the rest is up to us. We need to be consistent with what Ellen taught us. This place and the staff are amazing! I have two dogs, siblings. One was great with other dogs, the other - not so much. I was so nervous to send them for day care and overnights but a few months in and... well, all I can say is that both of my pups pull me through the doors to get in and they are both socializing like never imagined. I had my guys in dog parks since they had their shots and I was always in the middle of a "fight". Maybe I was too protective but Ellen and Russ listened, asked some questions and welcomed them in for a trial. They were confident and great trainers for what has been an amazing experience. I can't express my gratitude enough for all the help they have provided when I needed them most. I have a great sense of security sending them to day care and overnights - I know they're having a great time with the best supervision. There are no words to describe how thankful i am for The Barrie Inn. My dogs Duke and Kasey (who are beyond attached to me) actually PULL me in by their leash whenever we arrive. I can't say enough about The Barrie Inn. I have been using them over the years for grooming of my 5 standard poodles and little cotton de tulear and always been very happy with the results. I loved them for grooming but I never needed them for anything else. Then my circumstances changed and I needed to board my immune compromised poodle. This dog had been left once before with someone who boarded in her home and he was gravely ill when I picked him up. I was very concerned about this fragile dog and how he would do being left again. My vet recommended speaking to Ellen, one of the owners of the Barrie Inn. Ellen was superb! She listened sympathetically to my fears and promised me she and her staff would pay very close attention to my dog's physical as well as emotional needs. She told me to call as often as I needed and they sent me pictures and videos to ease my mind. I came home to a healthy, happy dog! What more can I say! This is without a doubt the best place to send your fur babies for grooming. I have been sending my Frosty (Siberian husky ) and Bronco ( French mastiff) for baths and grooming and they definitely provide a great service they know how to deal with big dogs. I love to see my babies coming back from there happy and clean..I highly recommended it. Staff is always professional polite and very helpful. The Barrie Inn and Fido Fitness Center is the best place to take your dog for day care, grooming and boarding! He was, and still is excited in the morning to go to daycare. I was very anxious about boarding him overnight and they assured me he would be fine. When I picked him up he was glad to see me but wanted to go back inside and play with his friends. We recently moved to Manhattan, but he still comes back to visit for day care and grooming. Every time we pull up he's so excited to be there! I know my little guy is safe and well-cared for. If I ever need to board him again, it will be with Ellen and her staff. They play with the dogs and show them love, just check out their Facebook and Instagram accounts! Their customer service is excellent! I still bring him for grooming and day care visits even though it is way out of the way. We left for our trip to LA during the holiday weekend, our first time ever boarding, and we were worried, as our dogs were rescued and they are very skiddish. My experience with The Barrie Inn was absolutely horrible! When I bought my dog in for the temperance test, I was told by the owner that he was a little timid, but that he would be fine as he adjusted. I began bringing my dog in that following week. By the second week, when I brought him home, he would run to his bowl like he was starving. I just assumed that he was extra hungry from all of the exercise he was receiving during the day. I asked one of the workers the next day if he was eating, she informed me that if I wanted him to eat, I would have to pay extra or bring his food. During the initial interview, I was not told this, I was just told of the brand of food that they gave the dogs, so I assumed that they were feeding him. So basically my dog was there all day 6:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. without eating anything! I certainly would not have a problem bringing his food. To top it off, my dog was about 1 year old when I started bringing him to the Barrie Inn so he was still pretty much a puppy and he was extremely excited when I came to pick him up. A young man who I believe is the owners son, would bring my dog out, and because he was so energetic, he would yank his chain extremely hard nearly choking my dog to get him to sit. I am no dog trainer, but I do know that this particular technique was unnecessary. The last straw was when I picked my dog up, and when I got outside, I noticed a large gash in the top of his head. When I went back in to ask one of the workers, I was told by one young man that he had no idea what happened because he had just gotten there. When I asked another worker, she says she isn't sure what happened, but that I should just put some "peroxide" on it. It is my belief that if I am entrusting you with the health and welfare of my dog, you have the responsibility to do the right thing. The way my dog was treated was just awful. I am not sure why my dog would be treated like that, but I would not recommend this place to anyone, they are a rip off and they abused my dog. Perhaps because I didn't fit the "image" of their other customers? And they say that they are cageless, that is a total lie, I have gone in and seen the dogs in cages. The Barrie Inn is more like the Bates Motel for animals. read more

The Barrie Inn is fabulous! It is connected to Fido Fitness Club and is the greatest option for any dog owner who must board his/her pet. My dog, Miles, not only gets fed, walked multiple times, and boarded for the night, but he also gets to play in the dog park all day! When I was gone for a week, I called for updates, and the staff was great and reassuring that Miles was having a blast! When I went to pick him up, he didn't want to leave! Whenever we drive to Fido Fitness Club or The Barrie Inn, Miles gets so happy. This place is amazing, especially if you travel a lot and are worried about your dog being in good care. read more

We HIGHLY recommend this business and will return for their services again. Our 10 month old pup, Klaus, was boarded for 5 nights, while we were on vacation. We couldn't be more pleased! Klaus' calm demeanor and playful personality remains the same as we left him. It's apparent that our dog was returned more physically fit than we recall as well lol. It's very satisfying to know our dog was walked and accompanied by other dogs within the indoor park area for plenty of exercise. We struggled to find a reliable sitter for our pet. Our worse fear was our dog being crated all day without bathroom breaks. David, Russ and Staff give a very pleasant,friendly and honest aura. They were very accommodating to our needs. Dogs are divided by size in the park area and always accompanied by employed members. We also saw dogs being walked outdoors on leashes. We are more than satisfied with this doggie hotel and hope all dog owners have the same positive experience as we did. They were very friendly and helpful from the start. I needed an alternative boarding for my dog when our regular place closed unexpectedly for repairs. I called and brought him in for an evaluation and that was it. They were great with my 2 year old Min Pin and very nice to me as well. They seem to enjoy him and him them. We've been using them ever since and I have no complaints. I have even used the grooming once and that was the best bath he has ever come home from. I would never recommend this place to anyone! If you love your dog, do not bring him or her to this facility!! They have 2 large pens, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. The place is extremely chaotic!! My dog is very social, goes to the dog park all the time, has doggie playdates etc.. but when you put her into a pen for the 1st time with 15 large barking dogs she is naturally going to be skiddish and overwhelmed. Instead of working with her they told me they had to use a pinch collar, feed her in her crate and said she had social issues.The workers were screaming on top of their lungs at the dogs. My dog cried all the way home after being picked up and acted strange for the next few days. She will never go back!!! read more

This is my go to place for my pup, a 23 pound wheaten terrier and poodle mix (a whoodle!) They do a great job grooming him and at a very fair price. Russ and Ellen did a great job training him and were very accommodating with scheduling. He has boarded there several times for as long as a week and has a great time. On at least one occasion a family emergency came up and they took him on short notice with no questions asked. The indoor dog park really breaks up the stay. Highly recommend. read more

We were going on vacation for two weeks when our dog sitter couldn't watch our 8 month old golden retriever puppy at the last minute. We researched various kennels in the Long Island area and came up with The Barrie Inn as a cage-less kennel. Ellen gave us tour of the entire facility and could not have been more upfront, honest and compassionate. We had never gone away from our 'pampered pooch' and leaving him alone in a strange place seemed unfathomable ESPECIALLY for two weeks. They knew how upset I was (to the point of breaking down in their office) and The Barrie Inn did everything to ease my worries. I watched my puppy on the doggie cam at Fido Fitness. They sent me emails and pictures of my puppy during the two weeks of our vacation. Needless to say I was the only one worried. Our puppy had the time of his life!!! He was so happy and well exercised I'm not so sure he was as happy to see us as we were to see him. We'll be back. The Barrie Inn is awesome! read more
