This place is the definition of swank. Incredibly high ceilings with massive animal heads and paintings of animals everywhere. The tables are made of wood and leather. They have chairs that are antlers and huge fuzzy pieces. There's an inflatable Trans Am car under the stairs to the bathroom, as well as a lot of abstract art down there and everywhere. Everything is quite polished. It's expensive and exclusive. Up to you if it's your scene. If it is, you'll go wild for this place. If it's not, you'll roll your eyes. To each his own! read more

Definitely your typical "members only" place with a nice ambiance and interesting wall decor. Service was painful to say the least- even with a reservation. Food took an hour...we sat and waited...drank our drinks....and kept waiting. Food wasn't horrible, but by then, we had waited so long we just wanted to eat and go. I give them extra kudos for the dessert though- ice cream sandwich is something you'll have to try. read more

Funny reviews. Everyone thinks this is so exclusive and swanky for rich, bourgeois people. My friend uses UpAllNight and got into this event and had some +1's. It felt like any nightclub in SF...like Ruby Skye or Temple. Nightclubs in SF usually attract somewhat attractive people who have to dress somewhat nice. The DJ wasn't anything special at all. In fact, it's not really my type of music to dance to. I like the nice crowd. It felt like a high school dance or a wedding. Coat check is complimentary and there's free drinking water..yeah yeah whatever..we didn't check out other floors or rooms. There's an outdoor patio. I didn't get a drink. I would love to come back, but it wasn't as amazing as I had hoped. Needs more perks. I'd rather hang out at a tech event. read more

It's one of the best places in the city if you want to have a great dinner/coffee conversation and run into interesting folks. I try to host many if not most of my dinners here. I also use the space as an occasional office. You'll read a lot of reviews complaining about it pretentious. I was worried about that too, but found it wasn't the case when I actually joined. I think the admissions criteria to the club is just someone who wants to do interesting things and/or leave a positive impact on the world. So, the dues aren't actually that expensive. I mean, it is a private club; so, if you don't like private clubs it doesn't make sense to leave a review. If you're interested in joining (or hosting an event), it is a nice spot. They serve samovar tea, so I know I can always get something great to sip on. The menu changes constantly, so there's not much use in leaving a review of the food. Came here for my first time with a friend who is a member. Had a couple of beers and a chicken sandwich. Loved the sandwich. Atmosphere is great. Very laid back and relaxing. I would recommend this place to anyone who has an opportunity to visit. read more

I went to a lunch with a friend here, and had hoped that it would be similar to the Soho House in LA. The decor was great, but the service was terrible, and food was ok. They had a small courtyard outside but the view was not great, and it's much less interesting than the other social clubs I've been to. Would not be a long-term member here. read more

lovely, simply lovely. Not at all stodgy or old school. Just a really nicely appointed, HUGE event space with an adequately wonderful kitchen/restaurant. The bar in the center of the dining room is beautiful and large which makes hanging out so pleasant - no one is climbing over you to get a drink. It's civilized. We had dinner with friends and the food was good - you're not going to get the most inventive food out there, but it's serviceably good. The fish/chips were lightly breaded and delightfully flakey and soft. The miso salad was a bit salty, but the broccoli with romesco sauce was divine (we ordered 2). Service was wonderful, humorous and helpful but not overbearing. The overall atmosphere is perfect for a business dinner and/or just dinner or drinks. It's loud enough to be interesting but not distracting. Haters are going to hate, but not quite sure what they are hating. NOTE: No phones allowed in the Battery, which is totally lame, but conversation is a lost art. read more

I went here for the LTR conference and was immediately mesmerized by the architecture of the place. The layout gave this mysterious but social hub feeling, and there was a good balance of work space, and group hang out space. The servers also seemed to be a little dismissive if they assumed you were there just as a guest. I'm sure if I was a regular at the battery I would have more input, because I did start to get this air of "elitism" while there even for a short while. read more

What a cool swanky place for events. (But I did not really know what this place is for other than for events...ha!) Had my Berkeley Law alumni event, and this is a very cool space. It's got the old school decor with the proper lighting for the ambience. It is just cool, swanky, and classy all at the same time. Got my thumbs up if this venue is ever to be rented for a company or business event. If you got money, throw your bday party here and invite me. read more

I didn't even know this place existed. If you want to hang with rich people this is the place to be. This place is spacious, huge bar restaurant downstairs. Upstairs a library that feels like a movie set. A bar upstairs with a secret room behind a book shelf. Neat experience to check the place out. read more

San Francisco nightlife generally doesn't compare to Miami but this venue has a more high end vibe and sleek design to put you more in an entertainment state of mind. Did the upstairs club. Small space and no one dancing to the dj. Bar was well stocked and diverse. There's also a side room to sit and talk. Was crowded but also it is superbowl. read more

As members, we always celebrate our friends' birthdays, every year with Questlove, bottle service and out of towners. The service is always wonderful and we always feel taken care of. My review is way overdue. The rest of the year is fine, however, we get busy and tend to be at Wingtip more, simply because it's easier to hold business meetings there and it's just a different atmosphere. Out of town guests do appreciate the atmosphere of the Battery though and the people watching can be very funny. read more

If you looking for something very swanky, then look no further. This is as good as it gets. The setting is very laid back and casual feeling, but at the same time very prestine. Lots of glass that line the walls, but with a heavy wood presence. The high ceilings give the place a large spacious feeling, which it most certainly does. Decorations are top notch all the way. If you come here, then come for not only a great time, but a place to relax and take a load off. read more

Be careful when you spend money there! There can be fraud ! When the bill came, it was about $120. I paid the bill and my fiend paid the tip by cash. Two days later , my credit card showed them charged me $150. Apparently without my authorization! They probably think their clients never look at their card statement nor keep the receipt. But I do. This is a fraud and I am not only asking them money back but also going through credit bureau to report it. **Update*** Battery called me back and told me it would refund me the difference. There was no explanation neither an apology. I am quite surprised by this so-called exclusive club's mannerism. Its business etiquette and ethics is lower than a 7/11!! Membership is by invitation from an existing member, with each member being granted only two. The bar is a large, open area with decent drinks, amazingly crispy fries and what seems to be house-made ketchup. The hotel and certain areas are available for non-members. No valet parking, but there are private lots nearby. A nice venue to catch up with friends or colleagues. read more

In 2008 I became domesticated, ending a decade of being plugged-into the SF social scene. 2016 now, kids finally a little older now, my friend invites me to a lecture at The Battery on the beat generation and I take a pulse of the milieu. I was impressed with this new 2016 social era and the tale-of-two-cities nature of it, bifurcating the SF nightlife class into stratas. The Battery is the synthesis of the concepts: exclusive social club and lounge/bar. Back in the day any attempt at a permanent exclusive members-only nightclub failed rather quickly. Now, however, city professionals and nobility, filled with well-to-do millennials and botoxing Gen-Xers still down to party, including stars/athletes, have found their members-only clubhouse. In this new zeitgeist that brought-forth the advent of The Battery is all about quality control: the spectrum of partiers could now effectively be Chinese-walled-out, refined - no more bridge-and-tunnel pretending Jiffy Lube Manager-types splitting a bottle for a Cinderella night-out. Successful Millennials like doing things their own way, hanging-out with their own type, secretly loving exclusiveness as long as it's THEIR flavor of it, buying Teslas to make self-expressions along with applying for a membership to The Battery . Inside the Battery you have all the trappings of a postmodern clubhouse labyrinth with a high ceiling main bar area and glassed stairs that take you to an ultra-slick lounge-library upstairs next to lecture rooms. That night I attended a lecture about the Beatniks, afterwards floating towards the library bar across the hallway to enjoy a drink with my member-buddy to discuss the lecture. We ran into one of his friends there complaining about how the place was not as crowded as he liked, that it was better last year. After he walked away I found-out he was a Unicorn startup minor founder that lived in one of those SOMA condo towers, his pad supposedly taking-up half of an entire floor. We made our way back downstairs to the main lounge where a crowd was condensing along the main bar so we plopped ourselves down into one of the many cozy lounging tablesets to have another drink, realizing the durability of this modern day adult playground; you could socialize the same way you do at a downtempo Redwood Room-esque lounge bar or grab a seat or couch and catching up with friends. Ah, yes.. The Redwood Room, me old stomping ground that was the posh lounge to hit back-in-the-day located in the Clift Hotel, a place still there, a place I noticed on a recent pass-through was physically just as I had remembered, yet totally NOT the same, now having turned from the SF's reliable swanky destination into a post-advent-of-Battery venue for after-Giants-game crowd tattooed bald east bay gantgstas mingling with the high-end hookers of the city; Battery is sucking all the well heeled oxygen out of the nightlife. The warm interior design at the Battery stems from the overall lighting strategy that is invitingly dim yet bright at the same time, creating a fancy-relaxed ambiance that manifests cocktail lounge social energy. Lots of attention to detail. Liberace Museum-like pieces mixed with sleek modern design, eclectically perfecting a consistent post-modern atmosphere expertly. Bathrooms immaculately polished, you get your private room replete with a removable small hanging wall mirror that can double as a fine Colombian cutting board ;) . Their drink menu was thick and we ordered a few drinks off of it - all amazing. It's always hard to find a place that can really make amazing drinks in this city - this is one of them. First class bar-tending. As we were walking-out we saw quite a few of the Golden State Warrior giants come-in all dressed to the T. Yes, this is a very unique place indeed. All this for the price of a top tier gym membership? Well, even old introvert me sees value in a place like this if I was single. No doubt there is a part of me that is sad how this kind of partying is out of reach of some people. However it's what the customers are demanding and part of the new normal. Stayed at the hotel here for two nights. No one seems to be on the same page and kept getting different answers for simple things like when breakfast ends/starts. The hostess at brunch was incredibly rude, wouldn't even smile and made a mistake and didn't apologize. We brought our car with us and they didn't have valet. We had to park in a public garage a couple blocks away that was pretty sketchy and costs a lot of money. Little small things like they never brought salt and pepper for our room service, we had to ask for sugar from 2 different people, the room service menu wasn't updated, we ordered food for 5 people and only two sets of silverware were brought, no bathrooms on the same floor as the restaurant/bar, miscommunications everywhere and poorly run for trying to be exclusive and high-end. Good idea and concept but poorly managed and executed. read more

I was invited as a guest by a friend (nobody is perfect). After a surprisingly long wait we get in to a very large and very empty dining space. Despite being the only diners I had to walk around to find the waiter to get him to come over. He had fully dilated pupils and was having a hard time remembering our order. My friend and I took bets as to which drugs he was on. I picked opioids because his movements were overshooting. I won the bet when he later spilt my dinner all over the table. This place is overtly for the nouveau riche by the nouveau riche. None of them appear to actually like each other. I can't imagine that it's a fun place for creatives. I'm happy it exists because I don't have to go there and it keeps the 'undesirables' out of my preferred bars. read more

Skip the food. Instead, stop by Trestle or Bask tapas nearby. Accept that ordering a drink at The Battery bar ~ upstairs or downstairs ~ will take awhile. It's not unusual for patrons to give up and just drink water, which is self-serve. Client service is not a strength of this club. The co-ed bathroom can be dirty. During weeknight events, the bathrooms run out of paper towels and members are left pulling on rolls of toilet paper to dry their hands. read more

Frequent guest here. Since members don't review their own clubs in general, I will put a shout out because I have always had a good, quality time here. I like that I can always find a place to have good conversation with a group, small or large. I have been to their special events, always well done. Stiff drinks and solid wine selection. The food is pretty good. If you spend a lot of time in the area, membership is worthwhile. I have several friends who are members so am here often and have not yet considered joining, not yet. read more

I had the wonderful privilege to attend a gin tasting with a friend and her guy who was a member at the social club. This place was such a fantastic spot to tour and take in the artwork, which routinely cycles out I was told. While the space itself has a no cell phone policy, they do have a dedicated photo booth room filled with masks and funny wigs to commemorate your visit! The staff was absolutely polite and wonderful to any questions or needs we had. The gin tasting itself was fabulous and we were able to partake in some of their noms which I will say was just as delicious as my Bees Knees! From the octopus to peaches and prosciutto to their chicken sandwich, it was a great experience to dine, wine and explore to listen to Latin jazz and later even go into a fun hidden room which had board games! Overall, I had a great time and would love to go back! read more

We were invited to an event here. It is an outstanding space with good food (for a social club) and excellent service. Allow plenty of time for parking though because they don't have their own parking lot or valet service. This place is all about the details. Beautiful decor. Went with members last week with a party of 10. Place is immaculate inside, amazing on so many levels, sure they spent a fortune to build it and it shows. Nice bar and lounge but the food was absolutely horrendous, literally, have never had as bad for a hi end dining experience. They really need some help in the kitchen but the bar and overall space is stunning. Lastly, it's filled with tech d-bags so hopefully that's a scene you're into. read more

Went here after Winter Fancy Food show to meet up with some big wigs in Natural Food scene. We had one of the rooms with the secret passageway bookshelves with was pretty dope. A few guys in our party were not on the list and it was a pain in the ass to get them in. The door guy was a dick but you gotta expect that. Once inside pretty fun as it was private event. If only the quality of the atmosphere & design equaled the quality of service. It's a beautifully designed club and you truly feel like you are somewhere special. The single area that's significantly lacking is a polished dinner service. In a town where you trip over expertly orchestrated dinners it would be in the Battery's best interest to spend a little more time & money perfecting this one aspect of the club. So it's a 3-star review for now but with high hopes The Battery continues to find it's rhythm. read more
