After more than 20 years of visiting San Francisco and typically staying around Nob Hill, I never thought I'd find myself choosing a hotel near Fisherman's Wharf. I'm glad I did. Argonaut Hotel is a beautiful property with a fascinating history, housed in a historic waterfront warehouse that gives the hotel a unique character you don't find in many chain hotels. The nautical theme could easily feel gimmicky, but here it feels thoughtful and well-executed. The location is hard to beat. You're steps from Fisherman's Wharf, a short walk to Ghirardelli Square, and practically next door to Buena Vista Cafe. It made exploring the waterfront incredibly easy, especially with kids. Speaking of kids, we traveled with ours, and for the first couple of days they were still operating on East Coast time. That meant some very early mornings, and I'm sure a few of our neighboring rooms would have preferred a little more sleep. Thankfully, the hotel felt welcoming to families, and we never felt out of place traveling with children. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. After long days exploring the city, it was nice to come back to a room that didn't feel cramped. What surprised me most was how much I enjoyed staying in this part of the city. Yes, it's touristy, but it's also lively, convenient, and full of classic San Francisco experiences. It was a very different experience from our usual Nob Hill stays, but in a good way. I would absolutely stay here again. read more

The rooms, location, and restaurant are all excellent. Never had such a spacious room in the city! And the bus, streetcar, and cable car lines are so close by it may as well be a transit center. We drive up to San Francisco every summer to visit family and friends, and this year we decided to stay at the Argonaut on Fisherman's Wharf as we wanted a more touristy experience and so we could be close to our old office buildings to show the kid, especially since this was our first trip with our 8 month old. Unfortunately, the valet/arrival/departure experience was a major disappointment, to the point where we canceled our plans with our friends in the peninsula as the valet mentioned that the next day could be just as bad. The valet entrance is located on Jefferson Street just off Hyde, and the small loading area fills up quickly. Between guests unloading luggage, cars abandoned by valet, and limited space, traffic backs up fast. Keep in mind this is a one lane street with 4 parking spots in front for valet that they parked 6 cars haphazardly into and on the regular circuit course for converibles, tour buses, and Port vehicles. It was chaotic, with frequent circling, honking, yelling, enging reving, congestion, calling a hotel lobby to get a recorded line that wasn't of any help, and a now crying baby. And to top it all off, on departure I get back a scratched up key fob. While we enjoyed many aspects of the hotel, the stressful arrival experience was significant enough that we will be going back to the nearby Marriott which has a much better parking situation as well as free local desserts, coffees, and events for guests. If you have a car please look elsewhere for accommodations. If not, its a great location and the restaurant and cleaning staff were very courteous and kind. There were very intoxicated and extremely loud guests in the room next to ours. Security asked them to quiet down and they didn't. Just before midnight we insisted on being moved to another room which resulted in a downgrade from the room we were in. This was a last-resort decision for us and of course, a major hassle. I asked for a courtesy discount and was told I'd be contacted by a manager. That didn't happen. This hotel is MUCH larger than how it's represented on their website. The rooms are nice, but not at the level of the room price ($685/nt). It's obviously located in a family-friendly tourist zone, so there is a lot of hustle and bustle in the public areas of the hotel, and unfortunately you can't count on peace and quiet on the guest floors. Most people know this, but in case you don't, Fisherman's Wharf has a Bourbon Street vibe, and that's great if that's your thing. But I can't understand why anyone would pay this price for such a "throw the dice" experience. Never again. read more

The argonaut is a cute boutique hotel in a very busy part of the city. Built in a historic building Along the Embarcadero. It's cute and well maintained. The room was very clean and well appointed if a little kitschy. They totally go in on the seafaring theme. Had a view of the bridge. That was nice for sure. Staff was a bit odd....doorman ignored me. I had to ask for bell service. Front desk clerk was so automatic in his responses that I would gave I referred AI. The strangest thing ever...no coffee in the rooms. It's expected. Beautiful historical hotel (a former cannery and warehouse built in 1907) nestled in the Fisherman's Wharf area. Adjacent to the cable cars and the famous Buena Vista (definitely enjoy an Irish Coffee there). The Blue Mermaid restaurant (within the hotel) served up good breakfast classics. Service on all levels was excellent- check in staff , complimentary umbrellas to use daily, luggage storage etc. Rooms were outstanding- spacious- I recommend treating yourself to one with a view (we had the Golden Gate Bridge). The bed and linens were high end and very comfortable. Take a moment to admire the rich history of the hotel - old photos , steel beams and brick walls. The USPS San Francisco Maritime Museum is located right adjacent to the lobby - it's free and has very informative exhibits. The seating area with a fireplace in the lobby is nicely appointed with chairs and cozy. The hotel is in a very walkable area and had good security as well. read more

Charming little hotel in the perfect location--close to all the major sights in San Francisco. I wish I had taken photos of the hotel itself, but I did capture the incredible views from our room! From our window, we could see Golden Gate Bridge, and right in front of Ghirardelli Square there was a lovely little park that made the setting even more picturesque. The only downside was the added destination fee. Since it's mandatory, we used the credit at the on-site restaurant, Blue Mermaid. We enjoyed appetizers the first night and breakfast the following morning. The food was good, but be prepared: prices are steep. Between the high menu costs, double taxes (restaurant tax + San Francisco mandated tax), and gratuity, it adds up quickly--easily $50+ for just one or two items. While I wouldn't say it felt worth the price, at least the credit helped offset it just a bit. Overall, a wonderful stay in a fantastic location. Because of the destination fee experience, I'd give it 4/5 stars. read more

We have a little pup that travels with us everywhere we go because he has an illness and is on medication. He was treated like a little king!! I can't say enough about the Argonaut hotel. It was a wonderful experience from check in to check out! Our room was very well appointed and it's so convenient to be right on the wharf. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful. Shout out to Enrique with the bell staff and Mateo with Valet who went over and above! We didn't have a chance to try the on site restaurant, but did have a chance to visit the exhibit about the history of the building on the lobby level We will definitely return to the Argonaut the next time we are in town! read more

The hotel it's self is nice. The staff is great. The issue is it's not very quiet. The rooms aren't well insulated so you can hear noise. In the connecting room, a kid thought it would be fun to knock on the door at 11:00 pm. There is a car parked less than 100 feet from the entrance that starts playing music loud at 3:00 pm until 10:00. I came to see the city AND relax a bit. This is a great place with kids. It's close to all the things you want to see, but when I come back, I'm going to stay somewhere else. read more

My go to hotel every holiday season. They are located across from Fisherman's Wharf in walking distance to all the hotels and restaurants. It's about a 15 min walk to Lombard Street and North Beach neighborhood. Also next door to Ghirardelli and the famous cafe known for their Irish coffees, The Buena Vista. They give you $15 credit at the restaurant and I usually use it at the bar for a glass of wine. Rooms are a decent size and you can request a roll in bed for an extra $30, if your room permits. They have basic amenities and the beds are very comfortable. Make sure you tell your kids not to open the stuff animal on the bed or eat snacks at the bar (travel size Pringles were $6.50 and a bottle of water $8.50). There is an ice and water machine located on each level. Hotel offers valet parking services but I found a nearby garage that does a flat overnight rate for $40 and does not include tip since it's self parking. Customer Service is always spot on. Cute lobby with Christmas tree and fireplace. read more

Once upon a time this was part of The Bill Kimpton Hotel Empire and fast forward is now part of the Noble House properties. From my previous visits, nothing has changed from when it was a part of the Kimpton Group. I was here for work and did not stay at the hotel. Lobby and restaurant have not changed since I was last here prior to the Pandemic. I still remember the four nautical deck chairs in the lobby area which also have not changed over the years. We attended a work Christmas party at the Argonaut Hotel and used their valet service. After the event, I received a parking citation that was issued during the exact time my car was in the care of their valet. I contacted the hotel immediately, expecting accountability. Great hotel at San Francisco prices. Our friends and we enjoyed our rooms on the top (fourth) floor. We traveled via the SFO airport, BART, and Lyft / Waymo / cable car. If you use the cable car, go to the Beach and Hyde terminus. Our room needed new batteries in the heating / AC controller and they replaced batteries quickly. My new favorite SF hotel! I have stayed in this city countless times - Financial District, Union Square, off the Embarc... yadda yadda yadda. But we decided to bring just the 6-year old for a special SF trip. I booked the Argonaut Hotel for its location. Very close to Ghirardelli Square and the Cable Car Turnaround. Lots of restaurants and shops very close by. If you stay here and don't at least dip into the Buena Vista (right around the corner) for an iconic Irish Coffee - I WILL judge you (that's a joke....mostly). Service is excellent, very friendly folks at the door and the desk. BEDS are lovely and comfortable with great sheets. The room was great to hang out in. Total bonus is having a delicious restaurant attached. And a wine bar! I ordered a bottle of wine, walked over to the restaurant and the staff was very helpful. I ordered food-to-go, sat and had a glass of wine while they prepared my food. Extra bonus: the 6-year old loved her fruit and mac-and-cheese. San Francisco is not a large town, but I love the location of this hotel. It's easy to walk the entire city (North Beach is very close). But if you want to feel safe, this is a good area. read more

If this was a review for the douchebags in the room next to us, this review would be -1000 stars. But it's not entirely the hotel's fault. So I won't go too far into detail to explain what caused us to flee our room at 6:00AM and seek refuge at IHOP on the corner, but it's a doozie. The hotel was very understanding, as the police had to be called multiple times... it was a rough night but not the hotel's fault and the night crew tried their best to work with us. OTHER than that it is a pretty standard Wharf-touristy-ish boutique hotel with smallish rooms, a cute and kitschy courtyard, fun arcade area... Glad I got a deal on the place because full price on this one would be annoying. Clean enough and the location is great for Wharf-ing. read more

Have stayed here twice in the last month. Great location. Valet staff are my favorites. Front desk not particularly warm nor friendly. No acknowledgement of being a previous guest. The code-only lobby guest bathroom was out of toilet paper and hand towels. Tried to order food to our room using their scan system. Didn't work so called the front desk and got Ai. Ai phone concierge was weird and the female voice was whiny. Had $12 half can of Pringles instead. Cleaning staff forgot to replenish our hand towels and wash cloths. My husband, dog, and I had a 5-star experience during our 3-night stay at the Argonaut Hotel a few weeks ago. Although the price may be high, it is a true luxury experience. The rooms are exceptional, their attentive staff is top notch, and the location can't be beat. Their entire hotel is nautical themed, which fits perfectly with their location near the water. The lobby was extravagant with a beautiful fireplace and a lot of comfortable seating. There is also an intimate, upscale bar adjacent to the hotel lobby. Valet parking is available if you have a vehicle. Our room was pleasantly spacious with a large bathroom, an open-space bed and desk area, and extremely comfortable beds. The room was more than suitable for two adults and our pup. Upon arrival and checking in, we were greeted by the doorman and valet with excitement, especially when they saw our dog. We were happy that the dog fee was a reasonably-priced, flat rate, compared to other hotels, but when checking in, they pulled out a welcoming gift for our pup. The packaging was impressive, though we weren't expecting much. However, when we got to the room and opened the package we were surprised to find a box fully packed with quality items which included a rope toy in the shape of an anchor, cheetah-print tennis ball, a branded Argonaut neck scarf, and a treat, all for our dog. She even made the Paws of Fame board while we were visiting. As noted above, this location can't be beat. Located near Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf, there are plenty of options for dining and shopping close by. We had a great experience during our time at the Argonaut Hotel and would stay here again in a heartbeat. read more

I booked using Priceline. When you book using their website direct it is more $$. They do offer free valet or other amenities for free when booking direct, But when you calculate it the priceline was less. The hotel room was great, everything worked. The view from the window for me is the internal courtyard which is a bit dull. Would be nice if they spruced it up instead of just tar and gravel roof. The location is excellent but everything closes early there. Still I like Aquatic Cove area, so worked for me. Place was safe, not noisy for me. Would go back. read more

Great basics but the once great Kimpton built & owned Hotel has growing problems by the new owners "Noble House Hotels" (& many other problems noted by many others in online reviews). Several bad problems this stay: 1) called front desk for help, NO person answers, sounded like ROBOT, then voice says "this is AI." What ? Huh ? Horrible !!!! 2) no doorman at night, front door LOCKED, what ????? Horrible. 3) housekeeper comes in our door as we are dressing & tries repeatedly despite "Do Not Disturb" light on & me yelling "NO", how WRONGFUL & RUDE & ILLEGAL !!!!! No security latch on door, no privacy. Horrible. 4) rude as heck Front Desk rep "Steven" on checkout. He should be FIRED ! Horrible. 5) checkout too early at 11am & checkin as late as possible @ 4pm so they offer MINIMAL use of room. Cheap & abusive. No 12 N checkout or 1pm checkout, no 3pm checkin. Not very flexible or gracious. 6) lobby bathrooms with door codes as if at gas station or jail, no class ! Bad. 7) old Kimpton tradition of gracious "afternoon wine" or hors d'oeuvres gone, cost too much, need more profits. Sad. 8) bell hop middle-aged White guy on duty Sunday 8/31 day not friendly or smiling & even REFUSED to lend even 1 of his 3 or so pocket pen to us to write down a name, as if angry & not happy or welcoming. From the start, our stay was incredibly uncomfortable. The bed felt like it was decades old and impossible to sleep on. The air conditioning barely worked, made a loud rattling noise, and kept us awake. The refrigerator was just as noisy at night and there was a constant banging sound on the wall right next to the bed. To make matters worse, my daughter and I were forced to listen to our neighbors' loud inappropriate late night activities which was completely unacceptable for a supposed family friendly hotel. We ordered multiple meals through their QR code system only to find out after the fact that the advertised fifteen dollar credit did not apply to those orders. Thankfully one staff member named Steven at least tried to help us but the policy was unclear and misleading. Ultimately we checked out a full day early because the stay was unbearable and there were tsunami warnings nearby. Despite this the hotel still charged me for the unused night. I reached out directly to management including Luis for help but received no response at all. For a hotel that markets itself as upscale this was a complete failure in both comfort and customer service. We left exhausted, disappointed, and feeling ripped off. I will never stay here again and strongly advise others to think twice before booking. Instead of taking responsibility for the unanswered email and offering a genuine apology, the management chose to post a dismissive and condescending reply to my honest review on Google. This only reinforces my experience and further proves my point about the lack of professionalism and care shown to guests. Truly disappointing. read more

My family and I went to San Francisco for the 4th of July weekend and it was quite hectic to get there. Upon arrival at the Argonaut Hotel, everything changed for us. Luis immediately greeted us with a big smile and made the check-in process so smooth and he even escorted us to our room and established that we had everything we needed before he left. He gave us some great recommendations for food and drinks before he left also. Throughout our stay, anytime Luis saw us in the lobby, he greeted us by name and made sure our stay was comfortable. His professionalism and courteousness was unlike anything I've experienced locally. This was our first time at Argonaut hotel, but it definitely won't be our last because of the experience Luis gave us. This review has several layers as we hosted an event here, managed a room block for guests, and stayed at this hotel. I will start with the event since that is where our journey begins. We hosted our wedding in December, 2022 at the Maritime Ballroom at the Argonaut. We were planning our wedding for about a year with Diem Tran. Diem is the best event coordinator we have ever worked with. She is extremely friendly, quick to respond to e-mails, and very professional. A big reason we chose this venue is because we felt comfortable with Diem. The venue itself takes imagination. When you go on a tour it is an empty brick room. However once the Argonaut staff places all the tables put's out the dance floor and up-lights are added the room becomes very charming. There is also the adjacent Del Monte courtyard available for the cocktail hour and for your guests to mingle during the reception. The catering staff was very professional and the food came out warm and tasting delicious. Great service is a theme of this hotel. Everyone staying in our room block was extremely happy with the Argonaut. The staff was very helpful and nice and even gave our guests welcome gifts that we curated for them. I have stayed at a lot of hotels and have not stayed at one this size where the staff made it feel like I was staying at a friends house. As for the rooms, this is clincher. The views from the hotel rooms are the best in San Francisco hands down. Our honeymoon suite was a corner suite that overlooked Ghirardelli Square and the Golden Gate Bridge on one side and Alcatraz on the other. Whether you stay in a basic room or a suite you will be staying in a very nice room for a fair price. I will recommend this hotel to anyone staying in San Francisco or anyone in the Bay Area wanting a Staycation. read more

Unfortunately, our stay at the Argonaut Hotel wasn't very pleasant. My husband, our two-year-old daughter, and I got so many bug bites from our one-night stay, which cost a total of $450. We felt that the stay wasn't worth the price. The only reason we chose this hotel was its close proximity to the marathon--it was just a few minutes' walk. However, I feel awful that my daughter is scratching constantly because of these bug bites. I'm not sure if it's flea bites or bedbugs And yes, we're 100% sure the bites came from the hotel. We had family who did all the same activities as us but didn't stay at the hotel, and they didn't get any bites. read more

Great bed and the accessible shower was done correctly ( not common in hotels). The bar is small and I hope you like common drinks ( not well stocked). The breakfast bakery items and fruit plates were wonderful. The bar (restaurant) staff is very nice and accommodating. The front desk is polite. The concierge Is often not there and when they are they do not have a lot of fun answers. Overall I would return, and do my homework on what is in walking range. Question of the day. I dine at the Blue Mermaid frequently with my family. I'm a long time local of San Francisco. Last night I was taking a walk from Pac Heights to the area and needed a bathroom. I figured I would pop into the Argonaut Hotel since I'm always there for food. The puny little fella behind the counter was rude and inconsiderate and said that I needed to be a hotel guest to use the bathroom when I was already in the lobby and our friend Kylie was in room 407. Can you believe to my surprise that he WOULDN'T let me use the lobby restroom?! I've just never heard of such rude customer service or behavior from anyone. The security guard was nicer since he was about to offer it to me until the guy behind the front desk intruded in our conversation and refused the door code. Shame on you for refusing a lady a common courtesy task of allowing someone to use your facilities. Honestly, I'm still aghast at your thoughtlessness. Someone needs to fire him. He has glasses and a hat. He's just a heartless human, sad to say. What has this city become where you can't be kind to locals anymore? read more

If you are reading this, and these reviews, please TAKE HEED to the negative opinions - because after staying at the Argonaut over the Memorial Day weekend....I wish I would have paid more attention! Requested a King Bay/Alcatraz view. Got one - room 350 - but views are negligible and shouldn't be advertised as "views" Several challenges during our three day stay - we are newlyweds, so it was our honeymoon. First - no hot water. Second, bathroom door is the slider style, which we literally had to drag (noisy and heavy) in order to get it to close. Did "engineering" take care of both of those complaints? Yes - but for the "per night" price on a holiday weekend, we shouldn't have had to request servicing at all. I said what I said. Rooms in a hotel that presents itself as a "luxury" hotel should be on top of these types of things. There is never a scenario where a guest should have to bring them to staff attention. Room was adequate, if dated. Staff engagement was fairly positive, which was a definite plus. False advertising - we were charged a $15 Guest Amenity Fee which supposedly included a $15 food/beverage CREDIT, bottled water, and a daily newspaper - none of which we received. Literally - it's too late for me but not for you. Find other lodgings if you want to stay on the pier. read more
