One of the biggest highlights for us was the lobster, which is available on Thursdays only. They also had chilled snow crab legs and cold lobster claws, which was a nice surprise and definitely made the buffet feel like a great value for the price. Aside from the seafood, they had a huge selection of the usual buffet favorites, including sushi, shrimp, different hot dishes, sides, desserts, and so many other choices that it would be impossible to list everything. There was definitely something for everyone, and we had no problem finding plenty of things we enjoyed. The food selection was good, there were plenty of seafood options, and we felt like we definitely got our money's worth. If you're a seafood lover, I would recommend checking them out on a Thursday so you can take advantage of the lobster. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience. For the price, variety, and amount of seafood offered, we would definitely come back and eat here again!

A day or two later I took him to Great Plaza buffet in PB, which is HALF the price and includes a tepenyaky grill ( same thing as Mongolian grill) with desert and real ice cream. I must admit that I have been going to Great PLaza for many years and it is my most favorite and best value buffet in ALL of San Diego.

Later, they changed the frog legs to weekends only, so we haven't been coming as often as we used to. Since it's an Asian buffet, there are plenty of Asian dishes to choose from. The udon soup wasn't very impressive to me, but honestly, we mainly come here for the frog legs, so we usually don't eat too many of the other dishes. The staff are quick and hardworking, but it seems like they could use a few more people. Sometimes when we need something, we almost feel bad asking because everyone looks so busy. The restaurant itself is spacious and clean. Parking is also easy, and the parking lot doesn't have too many speed bumps, which is a nice little bonus.

The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent, and I will definitely come back again.

This place reminds me of hometown buffet but just a tad bit better. For the amount of money it cost it ain't all that bad!! I enjoyed the Mongolian beef station and the sushi bar for sure and the grilled chicken as well that they make right there in front of you on the grill. I was a little skeptical to try the sushi section at first but glad that they roll it in front of everyone. As far as dessert goes, I only tried the brownies which tasted great and chocolate chip cookies which were average. Don't come here and expect to get Las Vegas type of buffet. You definitely get "good average food" for a great price especially during lunch time hours. A little over $35 for 2 people for lunch for a full buffet. Employees were great to me for the most part!

We were celebrating my mother's birthday and arrived around 2:29 PM. The restaurant was busy with many senior customers, the buffet offered a wide variety of food, and it seemed like it would be a wonderful afternoon. Unfortunately, our experience took a very upsetting turn. While we were eating, a manager or owner approached our table and, in a loud voice, accused my elderly mother of serving herself lemonade from the beverage machine without paying. My mother calmly explained that she had only filled her cup with water and squeezed fresh lemon slices into it. Instead of quietly resolving the misunderstanding, the manager brought over cups containing lemonade and continued insisting that my mother had taken lemonade from the machine. This created an embarrassing scene in front of our entire table and nearby guests. I respectfully asked if we could step aside and discuss the matter privately, explaining that we were not trying to take anything without paying. I also mentioned that my parents are longtime customers and that this was my first visit. Unfortunately, the conversation remained confrontational, and I left feeling that the situation could have been handled with much more professionalism and compassion. The experience was especially difficult because my parents are elderly. My 87-year-old father became extremely distressed, and what should have been a joyful birthday celebration for my mother turned into an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience for everyone at our table. The buffet offers plenty of food choices, but after being publicly confronted and embarrassed, it's hard to enjoy a meal. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Every customer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, especially senior citizens. If there is ever a concern, it should be addressed discreetly and professionally rather than through a public accusation. I sincerely hope management reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future so that no other family has to experience what ours did.

The sushi and sashimi were just okay, but the octopus was very chewy and difficult to eat. The scallops were disappointing as well, and even the shrimp didn't have much flavor. The cooked tuna was probably the highlight of the meal--it was one of the few things I actually enjoyed. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't memorable. For me, it was an average experience, and I don't think I'd be in a hurry to come back. Another disappointment was the restroom. The cleanliness was extremely poor, and it was very unpleasant to use. I couldn't even stay there and had to find a restroom somewhere else. This definitely needs improvement.

Obviously there were things they have had differently or things they wished were served, but overall everyone was happy. The food was hot and delicious just like last time. I was happy to see they had different dishes this time around too. Although I enjoyed everything from last time, it was nice to try some new stuff too. The place was slam packed. Multiple birthday parties going on, so the atmosphere was very alive with conversation. It was like one big family picnic in there. Initially, they could not find my reservation, but they found it and accommodated us with a table right away and even threw in a Halo Halo for my birthday. The hostess was really nice and jovial. With the amount of people in there it got really warm and unfortunately with the door swinging open over and over there were flies, but there isn't much they could do to prevent that.

Upon walking up to the door, we noticed the closed sign but there was some tables filled already. Asked the young man if they were open or had a private party, he didn't even realize the closed sign was still on. He asked if we had reservations, we did not then he told us to wait outside to be called on, there were tons of empty clean tables, but we didn't argue. As soon as we stepped outside, before I could sit down we got called right back in by the other lady to come inside. Okay. Weird quick game of musical chairs lol. She explained to us how it goes. Drinks on this side of the room. Food on that side. Check. First plate: garlic fried rice (Sinangag), fried eggs, longoniza, Filipino spaghetti, lechon, and a bowl of arroz caldo. Also grabbed two cups, one for water the other for what the waitress said was mango ice tea (spoiler alert: no mangoes were hurt in the process of making this ice tea). Second plate: watermelon and pineapple slices, menudo, kare kare, ube pancake. First the sinangag tasted like it's been left out too long even though it was just brought out. Lots of hard pieces of rice. I decided to not finish it. Next, the fried eggs and longaniza. Fried eggs felt too rubbery for maybe just me. And the longaniza didn't taste anything like longaniza. No spices no garlic. Just a basic sweet hot dog. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a hot dog. I can say the Filipino spaghetti did taste somewhat like actual Filipino spaghetti, sweet. But not too sweet but also didn't see any hot dogs in there! Now the lechon. Tasted exactly like fried pork. That has zero spices and kinda been out for a while. The arroz caldo had some shreds of chicken I think but I had to fetch for it in the pot. Unfortunately there's no boiled eggs to add but you can add everything else to it like the fried garlic, spring onions lemon etc. Now the drinks. What's up with the non mango mango iced tea? It just tasted like iced tea and if I was told that id be okay. But I love mango drinks and was looking forward to it. The water is the only thing I could say I wasn't disappointed with and only if I didn't have to get it myself I guess would be the only downside lol. I did try to get a second plate. Consisted of some watermelon slices and pineapple slices, menudo and kare kare with white rice. The kare kare and menudo did look like what they were called and that is about it in comparison to what I've had in the past. The menudo had no tomato paste taste to it and was rather bland and the kare kare was also bland. Their kare kare sauce was very watery, missing the thick savory peanut buttery taste. And unfortunately, it was the watermelon slices that made me quit and lose my appetite. It had a weird rotten taste to it. I almost had to vomit. First I thought it was soaked in something maybe vinegar, or I dunno. But I just could not eat anything else. I hope today was just an off day and the food is better. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever come back or even recommend my friend or family to come eat here.

They still offer BBQ or shabu, but now you no longer have to choose just 1. Some tables now have bot grill and burners for parties that cannot agree on BBQ or shabu. Even though the weather has been so hot lately, I wanted some soup, but I also didn't want to miss out on BBQ with my family. I was also very hungry because I skipped lunch. I told my husband what I wanted and he said we're going to Kanpai. We arrived just after they opened and before the crowd. We were seated in the BBQ room, but our table had burners for shabu. Bonus: our server pointed a big fan directly at us because it was hot. This was my first time having shabu at Kanpai. All of the shabu pots are smaller, but come with a divider if you want 2 broths. I just had both of mine filled with tonkatsu bone broth. I got to enjoy my fill of shabu and bbq off of the grill. The seafood was excellent in the broth, and my favorite on the grill was the steak cubes. I also made sure to get a little taste of the beef curry, and we ordered chicken karage (which is excellent in the curry as well. Don't forget to leave room for dessert! And don't forget that non-alcoholic drinks are included with your meal. My husband discovered the fruit tea and switches between it and the milk tea. It was another filling and satisfying meal at Kanpai.
