I do have to admit...While this is still a decent brunch cafe, things have changed a bit and not entirely for the better. Rising costs accompanied by decreasing quality, whether or not it is significant, is not a good combination. I decided to come during a Sunday with a group, and I noticed one of the waitresses got subtly flippant with one of my companions which I wasn't too pleased about. The breakfast they served me was still good that day, at least for me it was, so I cannot be too harsh. Their lunches are still absolutely superb, but I do feel like their breakfasts outside of pancakes are starting to come up a tad bit short. The eggs in recent times felt a tad bit runny, but where the real area of concern is their home fries; I know usually they have onions which I don't complain about, but I noticed a whole piece of onion which felt like sloppy work, and I can tell unclean cooking apparatus was used in making them as I found residue from other meals in my potatoes. Not to mention the bacon seems to be rushed off the pan, as it isn't entirely cooked all the way to a crisp. It's cooked enough to the point it's safe to eat, but I think you may have to specify if you want it crispier. Overall still a good spot for lunches, but breakfasts seem to be a mixed bag these days, and maybe one or two of their waiters/waitresses need a little less attitude. read more

Do not trust the "Please Seat Yourself" sign. Between having to get up and find a menu, confirming with a server that it was ok to indeed seat yourself and then waiting another 15 minutes without anyone checking on me or any of the people in my area I left. I've heard good things about the food here but if these people can't manage 5 tables with a max of about 10 people in the restaurant then I doubt I'll come back and take another chance. read more

What a great hidden gem. We had a group of 8 with us including locals who dine here and recommended the restaurant. The portions are quite large and the prices..... well let's just say they are from something you would see in a menu ten years ago! I mean under $20 pp out the door with tax and tip. I had the eggs with giant ham slice, home potatoes and English muffin. Someone in our party ordered a side of pancakes which were easily over a foot in diameter. Someone else had the yogurt banana split which was presented itself like a banana split but a much healthier version. And the skillets looked delicious. I like that you could also order from the lunch menu at 7:30 in the morning since that's what both my parents opted for, Mom had the Ruben and said it was delicious and Dad and their friend got the Philly steak sandwich which looked delish also. When in Tarpon Springs, we will easily dine here for a delicious meal at reasonable prices. It was busy and there was only one server in our section for 5-7 tables, so the wait was a bit on the long side. But with our large group, the conversation kept us occupied. Sometime last year, i had breakfast at this restaurant. I had eaten there many times, unaware how many time they had been sited or closed for gross conditions. I wrote a review that day because for that meal, the coffee was horrible, the potatoes tasted like a burned and dirty grill...as did the eggs and bacon. I received a response from the restaurant, asking me next time just to tell them ininstead of harming their local business. I felt kind of bad.... Until today, when I found out the were closed again by the Inspectors and that this was about the tenth time ..."Pinellas County, FL: Breakfast Spot, The Bayou Cafe Shut Down A 10th Time During Health Inspection." So, I am guessing they would not have listened to me if they can't even stay "clean' for inspectors. This is an insult to customers when the restaurant can't provide a clean and safe meal. Why are they even in business? I may sometime in the future give them another chance, but, as my old grandfather used to say..."You don't learn anything from the second kick of a mule" and 10 times...good grief they must have a learning disability. read more

This cafe is a little hidden gem amongst Tarpon Springs Antique shops. The atmosphere is very cute and comfortable with lots of welcoming smiling faces. The food was delicious, and plenty of it. Service was fine. Food was average. The home fries had a lot of garlic on them which was an unpleasant surprise. My daughter had the bagel sandwich and the cheese was not melted and made the sandwich slimy. My husband and I have just moved to the tarpon area! Today, I wanted to take him to one of my favorite places that I have not been in awhile! I was happy to see it has expanded with more seating area or maybe they just moved things around a bit. Looks nicer inside. I mentioned that it looks like it has changed and the waitress had a look in her face that seemed like she thought I was crazy! I did say I have not been in a long time and it was one of my favorite places. New staff as well. I used to have the same waitress every time. That was around 2014ish. She then said how many in your party "snarky". Then says, "give me a few minutes". She had an attitude from the start like she was annoyed that we came there to eat. She then says something to the cook and after a few minutes goes outside to clean a table. In the meantime, the other waitress asked if we have been helped. I said kinda, and she said well if see greeted you, she is good and she will be back. So we waited some more. Then we asked if we could sit at the bar and their silverware for rolling was on the counter and she said sure, give me minute to clean the area. Not wanting to bother her, and she was being nice trying to get us seated and happy, I said no we will wait. I said, well at least that girl is trying to help to my husband and that is when the shit show started. She became all defensive about her coworker. She offered us another table and I didn't want to sit in the direct sunlight so she said again well give us a few minutes to clean something! We had a long time to observe as we were waiting and there were plenty of clean tables in the other room that she could have offered. I guess I should have taken the table offered, but I was uncomfortable with the attitudes at this point and the possibility of getting a waitress that didn't want us there in the first place. Bottom line is this, the other waitress should have just tried to seat us and let us know they were just coming off a rush and to give them a few minutes to recover. We would have been fine with that. The other waitress had more going for her, she was pleasant until she tried to defend with an attitude. We no longer felt comfortable because I was worried about our food being contaminated at this point. I am sad because we are so close now and will not go back. As seen in many of the disappointed customer comments, no one steps in from owner/manager to make people feel better. So, they really don't care and these attitudes will continue. They have plenty of customers and don't care about new ones coming in. We would have been regulars. My husband said he has had better service at Waffle House. Oh well. Off to Rodies we go. read more

One of our favorite breakfast spots. Tucked inside a building in downtown Tarpon off Tarpon Ave it's a hidden gem. Nice,clean diner with lots booths. My husband usually gets the fried chicken Benedict with crispy fried chicken,fluffy biscuits & yummy country gravy. He said it's delicious & he really likes their pancakes too. I have had their scramble and their Florentine Benedict and both were very good. They do a great job of getting the hash browns crispy if you ask for them that way. Servers are always super friendly & efficient. Highly Recommeded PS we haven't tried their lunch/dinner yet but the menu looks good. read more

Yesterday had my usual Two eggs, bacon, home fries and English muffin. .. oh, the coffee.. it tastes like dirty bitter old sock water... worst coffee I have ever had Quick service but I could smell the stink of the grill on my plate when brought to the table. It's in the same location as Danny K. Apparently Danny got married and got into real estate business, and sold his business. The waitress is the same. Menu is less ambitious (used to have everything from egg benedict to gyros to Greek fried rice to steak. Gone also are the shakes and smoothies. It's pretty much standard fare of pancakes and eggs for breakfast, and sandwiches and salad for lunch. My friends really enjoy her bayou salad, which is a hefty serving of grilled chicken over spring mix. I tried the chicken waffle and reuben sandwich. After the tarpon market we tried to eat here for lunch. As we walked in a female server said snarkily are you coming in here?! It's at least a 10 min wait as she rushed past We were fine with that and started looking through the menu off to the side really the only place to wait, there was no one directing us or signs telling us to do something else. A male server then tell us no so pleasantly to not stand near the door. We then decide to leave since we felt unwelcome. Bayou Cafe was recommended to us by a local shop owner. Restaurant could use an update as far as far as aesthetics go but we could tell it very well taken car of and clean. My husband and I choose to eat at the small 4 seater bar area. He ordered normal breakfast fare and I ordered the Bayou Burger. Both entrees were cooked to order and tasty. Staff was friendly and were continually cleaning and restocking while we were there. They even went as far as to remove and soak all the tops from the syrup containers which can get sticky and yucky over time. That kind of attention to deal is a win in my book. I absolutely enjoyed this place! The interior of the restaurant is quirky and it's unlike anything I've ever seen! Definitely fits the vibe of a bayou, and being in a local town, it's got its own charm. The food was good as well. I ordered the Bayou Breakfast with potato hash, white toast, sausage, eggs and pancakes. The pancakes were thick and light, so this was a major plus for me. (He has a yelp account, he just doesn't yelp.) This is a hole in the wall place, with 1950's furniture, and VERY reasonable prices. Since we started on a protein only eating plan for the week, we had to be judicious in what we ordered, but I opted for the 2 eggs and 2 bacon, the Husbeast got himself the omelette with Ham and Swiss, no veg. While the place was moderately busy, the service was quick, The coffee was hot and the food was damn tasty. My eggs were fluffy, the bacon was deliciously salty and ZOMG I wanted more, but it was the perfect amount. I did get the home fries, but I only ate about 3 bites, because I really did need to try everything they were offering. The omelette was Good too, just the right amount and of course the fruit cup had the best pineapple this side of Hawai'i. Our total for coffee and 2 meals was under $18. Will we be back? They have cheap bamboo lining the walls and you can see behind it and it's disgusting looks like they haven't cleaned behind it since it was put up. I got eggs Benedict which was decent, somewhat cold, definitely wouldn't have again. My breakfast potatoes were the only big problem I had with my food, they were canned steak potatoes. They tasted like they were cooked in month old cooking oil. Tasted terrible. They also don't have their own restroom they just use the public restroom that's close to them. One of the worst restrooms I've ever seen. The waitresses were nice but other than that there's nothing special about this restaurant.
